Re: Questions 3/2

  • @cdepperschmidt I'm sure once my MS kicks in, I'll be singing a different tune. Lol.

  • @concreteayngel I wish that was how I felt. I have no patience for DS.
This is me. DD just head butted me... so no. Both kids are driving me insane.

  • I'm so conscious about how I act toward SS right now. I'm so worried he will struggle when the baby comes since baby will always get to be with dad and he won't. We are trying to remind him that we love him just as much as the baby.
  • Does anyone know if having EWCM at 7 1/2 weeks pregnant is normal or something to be concern about?
  • I have a question for STMs+.

During pregnancy, do you also feel extra super-lovey towards your other kids? Lately, I can't get enough of DS! I just want to love on him all the time. No matter how exhausted I am at the end of the day, when he goes down for the night, I miss him! I seem to even have more energy/desire to play and more patience for his tantrums. Just wondering if I'm getting an extra dose of oxytocin or what!
I have less patience with everybody lately.  I try to be aware of it and walk away, but they both seem to know something is up and are all over me.  We haven’t told them (because of m/c history), but the day I took the test, one told me that he thinks there’s a baby in my belly right now and asked how we could find out.

I’ve had lots of discharge. Most of it doesn’t look EW to me, but I would assume it’s normal as long as there is no blood. If you’re worried call your OB.
  • Does anyone have suggestions for dehydration? It’s not like go to the H and get an IV bad. However, I’m noticing that especially in the morning I get lightheaded easily. I read you’re supposed to drink 80 oz a day when pregnant and I’m barely getting 50 and throwing up some days.  However, too much liquid in my stomach seems to make me sick too.
  • @cdepperschmidt - try other things that are high in water content- like citrus fruit, grapes, jello, soups, etc.  Not all the liquid has to come from plain water.
  • @cdepperschmidt too much liquid makes me feel nauseous too. The sloshiness is wicked gross. I try to drink a glass of water every time I get back from the bathroom. That way it’s spaced out and I remember to keep drinking throughout the day.

  • I'm also freezing all the time lately its the strangest thing.

I felt so much guilt when I got pregnant with my second, but they love each other so much and my son rarely showed any jealousy towards her when she arrived.  Two years later at times it can be a different story as they are both 100% mamas shadows.
  • Anyone else have high/highish blood pressure when they go to the doctor? I feel like mine is frequently high when I go (pre-pregnancy included), but mostly because I'm usually running late and agitated and I just hate going to the doctor, and they do it as soon as you get in there so you don't even have a chance to relax. I'm like "can you just let me lay here in this quiet, dark room for 5 minutes first??" But then I wonder if maybe I really do have high blood pressure, because I do feel that way when stressed at times. At my first OB appointment it was 140/80, but I was anxious! So I'm wondering if that keeps up if the doctor will do anything about it...
  • This has totally happened to me before. Nurses will ask “Is your BP normally this high?” And I say no, and they take it a second time a few minutes later.

What was really shocking was seeing how high it skyrocketed when I had an appointment right after an upsetting phone call. That’ll teach me to keep a lid on my temper!

  • I've realized I can affect my blood pressure really easily by controlling my breathing and thinking "peaceful" thoughts (even just counting in my head). Deep breathes are key.

  • At my appointment last week, my nurse freaked me out and said that my blood pressure was way too low.

Doctor later said no, my blood pressure is totally fine. She's just used to everyone having high BP when they come in and doesn't usually see numbers like mine.
  • Story of my life, @melbo444

  • @hannaht8516 this is me, every time I go to the doctor. My birth control actually made my blood pressure go up so they ended up putting me on meds... but have been off both since October and still read high at the dr. I got a BP cuff and try to take mine at home a couple times a week so that I can show them how I'm trending, it also helps to remind me to keep my sodium intake in check since my bp seems to be so sensitive. Breathing also helps me!
  • I have a similar issue with my heart rate. Always in the 90-120s at the docs. The hospital actually made a big deal about after I delivered DS. Made me get an EKG before they’d move me to the recovery room. Always just assumed I had a randomly high heart rate until I started wearing a Fitbit. Then I learned I just have white coat syndrome. I’m always in the 60-70s unless I’m in some kind of stressful situation, then I skyrocket.

@hannaht8516 If they ever start to worry about it or talk about treating it, ask them if they can take it again at the end of your appointment (or whenever you feel less anxious).
  • @hannaht8516 I do NOT have high blood pressure, but at my first OB it was 140/? Because I was so nervous. They checked it again at the end and it had gone way down to normal.
  • I always had low blood pressure until about November 2016, then it suddenly shot up. I'm nervous about how that will translate in pregnancy.

After much more of the same...

  • Thanks all! I definitely need to work on my breathing, and hopefully they'll take it afterward so I'll be more relaxed. I looked back at my records and over the years it's been usually okay, and only super high a couple of times, so maybe it's not as bad as I think it is. I'm sure it's mostly white coat syndrome. But when I get stressed or anxious I feel like my head will explode.

@cagncoo12 I definitely think mine was higher from being on birth control too. I got off in October as well, and have felt much better. My yearly checkup in December was pretty normal, so I think it was just because I was anxious at this first OB appointment.

I believe CM is normal.  I've not had EWCM just creamy but with all the hormonal changes it should be fine.

Did anyone have a cyst found on an ovary during their ultrasound? I had to go to a maternal fetal medicine office for my dating scan because my doctor struggled to get an accurate date during my first OB appt. My doctor hasn’t said anything about it yet because I don’t have another appt until a few weeks. The ultrasound tech said it is probably normal and just left over from egg release but it still makes me a little nervous just because I don’t know anything about it. I have felt a little tender, which the tech said to expect.
  • @gracehopper27 They found a pretty big cyst during my 8 well ultrasound with DD. It scared the crap out of me because I'd been hospitalized for ovarian cysts in the past. They just monitored it and it ended up going away on its own.
  • Thanks, @SawyerRichardson! That makes me feel better...though I’m sorry you had to go through that scare.
  • How early have STM felt movement? Like a fluttering feeling?
  • @gracehopper27 I had an ovarian cyst last pregnancy which resolved on its own some time after my delivery but before my uterine surgery last year.
  • @gracehopper27 I had one early on last time. It was mentioned at my first ultrasound and then never talked about again, so I’m assuming it resolved on it’s on.
  • @purple_2012 I think I was around 16w with DD when I felt some flutters. I couldn't feel anything with DS until 22w and that wasn't a flutter but a stomach dropping flip he did ( I still remember where exactly I was because it freaked me out). I'm pretty sure I had an anterior placenta with DS, and DD I know the placenta was at the tip top of my uterus. Basically placenta placement can really make or break how early you can feel things.

@hannaht8516 to confirm white coat htn, I would get a home blood pressure cuff and measure your blood pressure at home for a couple weeks everyday. You can measure it first thing in the morning and later in the day. Just make sure you've been sitting for 15-20 minutes before you check. Don't drink any caffeine 60 min prior or exercise 60 min prior. Make sure both feet are flat on the floor and arm is at heart level (can rest it on a table).  Don't talk while doing it as it can bring up your blood pressure.  The most accurate cuff is the omron 700 series. On amazon i usually recommend the omron 742N (~$35) or the 710N (~$25). It's usually accurate when I validate it. You can then bring it into your Dr office and have it validated against their manual reading. If the cuff is accurate and matches the manual reading in clinic and your blood pressure readings at home is lower and higher in clinic, then you have white coat htn.

What's considered htn now depends on what guidelines your hospital follows. The newest one states anything above 130/80 is considered htn, but the 2013 one states anything above 140/90. My hospital follows the 2013 guidelines.

@gracehopper27 They mentioned a cyst at my dating ultrasound, but my doctor never said anything else about it. It was like that with DS too. I assume it's relatively common.

@purple_2012 I was just wondering the same thing. I didn't feel anything with DS until almost 30 weeks because of anterior placenta. I'm hoping I feel something much sooner this time!

  • @ashin121 Thank you! I may look into the at-home monitor.

I did. She said it was normal and would probably go away on its own. Something about it providing more hormones.
  • purple_2012  Obviously it's too early to feel anything from the outside but I've definitely had some sensations from inside my uterus at this point.
    Ladybug - April 2013
    Dandelion - October 2018
    Angel "Aurora" - July 2020
    Angel "Sawyer" - May 2021
    Angel "Maxine" - January 2022
    Angel "Violet" - March 2022
    Baby Dove due March 2023
  • I’ve also had some sensations inside my uterus (10w) today and wondered if it was movement.
  • Yes! 8w3d and freeeeeeezing
  • @purple_2012
I was 12 weeks with my first pregnancy, but it was twins and I was really thin back then.  My husband felt them on the outside the same day. This time there’s only 1 and I’ve got a little more padding, so I’m expecting it to probably be later than last time.

  • I have a 5 year old from my first marriage and we get a long great. My question is, would it be weird to go on a "family" vacation this summer just the 3 of us? We did it last year but my SO and I had only been together for a little while. I want to be able to take a vacation before this baby comes and SO needs to save his PTO.

As a step parent/person who has to deal w the ex I would not be okay with this.  But, I know everyone’s situation and relationships is different so you’re SO might be cool with it.

I know. I hope he would understand that it's for our son not because I just want to hang out with my ex husband. If we didn't do a vacation together, we would take him for however long by ourselves and I didn't want to be away from him for that long.
