Re: Questions 3/2

  • Jumping off, any opinions on a bikini wax in first tri? Scheduled my first one for Sat but not sure if it’s a risky idea or not.

  • @chopchop25 I have heard it hurts way more with the increased blood flow.
  • @chopchop25 it hurts more for sure. I did it in my last pregnancy when I was just barely pregnant (had an appt set up before I knew. Got a BFP a few days later) My wax lady did say she doesn’t like to do it during 1st trimester since increased stress of the process/pain could trigger complications.
After that first time with the increased pain I didn’t want to anyways, just kept myself trimmed with some clippers.
  • Thanks @BabyRobbinsAdventure and @SweetSweetTooth - think I may cancel for Sat, then! Good to know!

I’m thinking about getting some compression socks to help with the swelling down the line.  Has anyone tried them?  How did they work for you?  Would you just get ones that come over your ankle, or the kind that come over your calf?
  • @knottieamusements yup! I've had a blood clot before, so I have to wear them every time I fly.
If it's not under doctor's orders, you can likely just get some running compression socks or some off of amazon in the 15-30 mmhg (basically the strength of compression) range. 30+ usually requires a prescription.
I wear a pair of running ones that come up over my calf, and much prefer it that height as it really helps keep the blood flow moving all the way back up my leg and keeps my calves from swelling when sitting too long.
  • @chopchop25 - It was actually flying that brought it to mind.  I got back from vacation last week and my ankles had disappeared.  Thanks for the advice on how they measure compression.  I’ll definitely look into ordering some.
  • @chopchop25 you'll be fine. I do a Brazilian every 3 weeks and I did all through my pregnancy with DD. I didn't feel a difference in pain...it always hurts.

Anyone else have headaches? I had them almost daily my 4th week and today I'm 5w4d and had one so bad in the am it woke me up. It was better around 5am but it's still lingered a bit throughout the day. I didn't have headaches with DD but do get them during my cycle normally.

I wax at home, and just did it yesterday. Totally normal. I wouldn’t worry about it.

  • @DunkinDecaf any at home brand you recommend?
  • @mrsmartinez16 yes to headaches. It’s making me insane. Tylenol didn’t even make a dent in it. Between this head cold, ridiculous headaches and the nausea (which I feel primarily in my head/ears) my noggin feels like scrambled eggs.

@chopchop25 I have a home wax pot, so it’s liquid no-strips wax, like they have in many salons. If you’ve never done it before I wouldn’t recommend it during your first tri if you’re afraid the stress would really get you. Also took me a couple tries to figure out what temp the wax needs to be to spread easily and not burn the shit out of me.

    ETA: it’s this. https://www.waxingbeans.com/products/compact-wax-bean-starter-kit-with-heater?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=googlepla&variant=44357152330&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyojPxaLO2QIVlbXACh2vsgELEAQYASABEgJQ1fD_BwE

I adore it. It hurts so much less now that I’m used to it, and I way prefer diy over the awful anticipation of the aesthetician pulling it off.

  • @knottieamusements - +1 for compression socks.  I travel a lot for work, and they are amazing.  I had some from when i used to do distance running, and they were a life saver.  I wore them on flights, or if i had to be on my feet all day.  Looooove them.
  • @DunkinDecaf you hit the nail on the head. Scrambled eggs is exactly what it feels like

@jengibre_zorro how do the socks help with running? I'm intrigued. Granted, I don't do anything past 10k but I've got terrible circulation in my legs so I've probably needed it for awhile and just been to ignorant to explore the option

  • @lynzev LOL! I used to be the same way but I did one Disney 10k and was hooked. They do a good job distracting you, you forget it's 6 miles when you're running through Epcot :D

  • @mrsmartinez16 - For half marathons and marathons i find that your legs tend to get numb towards the end, so it just helps by increasing the blood flow.  I would also wear them the day after for recovery.  It was like a nice hug for your tired aching legs, lol.
  • I’m pro compression socks. I have them for postpartum. I swell worse than Violet Beauregarde for a 7-10 days after delivery.
  • Jumping off, any opinions on a bikini wax in first tri? Scheduled my first one for Sat but not sure if it’s a risky idea or not.
Definitely hurts. I get sugared and got it done when I was about 5 weeks. However I was able to have my bellinis before so maybe that's why  :p
  • I also do waxing at home. I have a pot, but do use strips. Can't really do much other than bikini and legs by yourself though due to leverage. My H does anything more than bikini for me, though I normally don't do a full brazilian.
  • Is anyone using any body creams or lotions yet?  I have dry spots (almost psoraisis like) popping up on my legs, hips and around my belly button.  I’m a hot mess.
  • I havent started the whole body lotion coverage yet, but I have also been getting dry spots.
  • I'll have to pick up some compression socks before we fly to Arizona next month!
  • Okay.. this one will seem silly that I havent figured it out yet... What does "FFFC" stand for?
  • @sammierose464 Flame Free Friday Confessions. Sometimes you’ll see an * by the flame free thread title because, well, some things just need to be ‘flamed.’
  • If I used profanity will I get in trouble?

YES, GET THEM. Get good ones. I only had one pair last pregnancy and I kept washing them like every other day because I needed them so often.
  • @cdepperschmidt I haven’t looked at Bump rules, but I’m all for it
  • @sammierose464 glad you asked I just assumed it was something that didn't apply to me so I never looked at the board haha
  • @cdepperschmidt -I’m working on trying to use the f-word less because it is used as much in my vocabulary as “the”.  I’m not sure Baby Blast’s first word should be the f-word (although it would crack me up).

But I also figure that given on the TTC boards they talk about doing the “Baby Dance” instead of having sex, there must be some delicate eyes out there.
  • The bump gods do occasionally show up and give warnings or ban people for cussing. It is allowed in groups but not in public forums like this. My last BMB actually moved to a private group wicked early bc people kept getting banned for cussing.

  • Maybe I should go edit my F-bomb...
  • @DunkinDecaf I’m super intrigued by these waxing beans. I usually research stuff first but maybe you know.... is this the type of wax that only adheres to the hair as opposed to the skin as well? I’m trying to find one like they use at the salon I used to work at cause it’s WAY less painful, but that brand of wax only sells to licensed salons.

  • @krzyriver not quite sure what you mean. The beans I use are the purple ones on amazon. I’ve bought a couple brands and never noticed a difference. Anyway I really don’t mind the pain anymore. I find it kinda calming. It’s a little evening to myself, doing something mindless and quiet.

  • @DunkinDecaf Special waxes (or if you’ve ever tried sugaring) only stick to the hair follicles. So when you rip, it doesn’t pull on your skin. It makes it less painful. Im mostly dead to it anyway, but figure it’ll be different if I do it myself so I’ve been trying to find one like that.

  • @krzyriver I don't know what brand your talking about, but if you rub baby powder on before you wax that would help. The powder adheres to your skin and the wax to the powder, instead of your skin. But the powder doesn't stick to your hair...
Obviously I can't guarantee 100% but it's been helpful to me.
  • @Mylitta I’ve heard of that but never tried it. I don’t think I’m going to find what I’m looking for so I’ll try the powder. Thanks!

  • I have my dating u/s in 2 weeks but I’m confused to how far along I am due to a short cycle. My typical cycle is only 25 days long and I got a BFP 2-3 days prior to my expected period. So when I was supposed to get my period it was only week 3 vs week 4. Does that still count as only 3 weeks pregnant or would I be a week further along in terms of baby’s development?? Does that make sense? It really doesn’t matter I guess and like I said I’m having my u/s in 2 weeks. I’m just curious as far as baby’s development and where I am in my pregnancy. My pregnancy symptoms have been much more intense early on this time compared to last (off the chain nauseated and moody at 2-3 weeks!) but I’m 100% sure I got pregnant this cycle and my dates are not off.
