Re: UO 3/1

  • I don't see the big deal with the app either.  I don't spend that much time on it because if I'm not at work I'm with DS and not on social media, but when I do get on there it works just fine for me.  Maybe an app update that needs to be run or something?

  • @delujm0 That's awesome! We were thinking about joining on our Disney cruise last year, but it would have made money a little bit too tight at the time. Once DH's car is paid off we may have to think about it again!

  • I use the app 99% of the time and it works fine. I'm not the most active in tagging people because it takes a lot of work to back up and see who said what, but its okay. I would like to share more about myself, but I also have no room for bsc in my life.

    @mrsbubbles-2 that sandwich looks awesome!

As for finances, we are totally combined but we got married while we were both in med school, so its not like we had a real income until we had been married for 3 years already. We both were also coming in with a crap load of student loan debt... So much debt. Thank goodness our income should increase a ton after residency or we would definitely end up bankrupt. Medical school cost is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. :#
  • Only downsides to app is missing out on signatures, and having to refresh every so often if wonky. I spend a majority of my day on a lovely government computer that blocks the bump. The app while not great, is definitely manageable.

@mrsbubbles-2 what kind of cheese did you use? Its beautiful lol
  • Oh man I’m so behind after my shit show day at work, so I’ll do my best!

disney - I can take it or leave it. I liked Disney movies growing up, we went once as a family and it was fun. My BFF lives 20min from Disneyland, sonif we go itd be a trip to visit them and doing a day at Disney or something.

Dogs - DH wants one so bad, but we always held off because we rented and didn’t have the space or yard. Now I insist on waiting til the boys are a bit older. Pit bulls - Nature vs nurture imo. My sis and BIL have a 13yo purebred and I’ve heard him bark like 2x. He was amazing with both nieces from newborn stage on. Most dogs it is their owners, surroundings, background, etc. but I’m also not a dog expert and never grew up with one.

FB - I’m not ready yet. Everything @lalala2004 said. We went to Fb earlier than my liking last bmb because of TB chaos back then and we had a few weird situations. We are good now, but there were some rough first days!
My fb is on lockdown, but my last name is very uncommon so if you search my full name, there is literally one of me. Not ready for everyone to know all of that yet.

Money - to each their own, but I think it’s important to at least discuss. DH and I knew about student loans, debts, savings, etc before we got married. It wasn’t a big deal for me what it was or wasn’t, but it was important to know what our options of buying a home, car, saving for our wedding looked like.

Right?! My husband would be like ‘you’re insane. You get American cheese’ and that’s be the end of the discussion

  • @mrsbubbles-2 OMG - that looks disgustingly amazing. He did a good job! I'm not sure I could bring myself to eat it tho.  :D

  • @mrsbubbles-2 that’s awesome!
  • And zomg on the unicorn grilled cheese!!! That’s amazing!

  • I dint think I’ve mentioned it in ages and certainly not weekly but maybe others have (shrug). It’s up to date but KILLS my battery and I find it clunky, hard to navigate through 5 page threads, hard to tag etc. and hellllooooo emojis and reactions are fun ;) maybe because I’m mostly on fb except this group it makes this forum seem frustrating.

I already mod one and don’t really want to mod 2 lol.., and it seems I’m not the only one lately who was ready so I mentioned . I truly don’t really understand the hesitation, honestly, which is why I’ve come back to reply.

  • That sandwich is awesome! I burn a regular grilled cheese 85% of the time and that’s while standing over it and staring trying so hard not to burn it!

I’ve been to Disney twice, the latest was when I graduated college, and I really liked and appreciated it. I can’t wait to take DS and this new baby in the next couple of years.

As as far as finances go, I’m completely in control. I make more than DH and have always been better with money and deadlines and bills, and have a higher credit score, so I manage all of it. We are lucky to live comfortably where we each spend what we want, but run any large or family purchases by each other or make them together.
  • My ils still don’t really share major financial stuff with each other and it’s so odd. Like, mil used to hide from fil $$$$ she spent on sil. I am sure shared vs semi shared vs whatever can work but hiding this stuff seems like a bad idea

  • Let me see, here’s where I stand on what’s been discussed:
    - I have zero interest in Disney
    - I don’t like dogs very much
    - I‘m OCD about finances and so is my H. We probably talked about it openly by our second date.
    - I love beets, but everyone needs to be warned that they will turn your poop purple. That can be alarming otherwise.
    - I must be really old (this is no surprise) because I have never heard of the unicorn theme trend. But damn, that grilled cheese is WICKED! I’m so impressed.
    - No to a FB group right now. It’s early days.

  • Oh I forgot to add my UOs!

Related to money, I really don’t understand when parents don’t teach their children about money—it’s a life skill! DH’s parents never wanted to “burden” them about it, even though they were very frugal savers, so DH is not a great saver. My parents literally went through their checkbooks with us as kids and asked for our opinions on taking a family vacation vs purchasing a car for my sister and me to drive in high school. I feel like it was so important to learn where the money went and what was “left over” each month and it made us appreciate what we had and quit asking for things when we didn’t realize the value of a dollar.
  • @kburg15 I think it's a really important skill too. I vividly remember sitting down as a family when i was in middle school and going around the table and each listing somewhere we could cut back to help the family out. I think my 12 year old self offered to give up soda and only ask to go out with friends (like to the movies) once a month at most. Looking back it makes me a little sad because I know coming to us all to cut back like that was not probably one of my parents proudest days, but I definitely grew up knowing the value of a dollar. While my kids will never really have to be in that situation, I definitely want to teach them anything I can about value of money and handling finances. My DH pretty much had anything he wanted growing up so it has been a bit of a learning game for both of us--me loosening up a bit and him learning to watch more.
  • @doctormom33 same for us! And that’s really one of my biggest fears as a parent! DH and I both grew up in families with significantly lower incomes than we have now and it built so much character and money consciousness. I’m struggling with how to teach that when the time comes because we (very thankfully) don’t have to make difficult decisions like our parents did. It’s definitely a first world problem, but I don’t want to raise spoiled entitled brats!
  • It’s so funny With finances and how you grow up. My family had way less money than my husbands, but we’re way more generous and giving with it (way too much so still In my opinion.) so that’s something we still work through - I love gifting and he doesn’t understand it because he didn’t grow up with it. But overall we have similar goals and we balance each other. We’re also in a better financial position much earlier than both of our families were at our age so that’s an advantage too.

Just curious what phone you are using? You’d mentioned a couple times that it is killing your battery.
  • @dirtanddiamonds I’m 95% app and it does kill my battery too - I’m on an iPhone 7

  • Unplugging my phone from the charger kills my battery.  I swear we moved away from phones with cord and years ago, but I feel like my phone has a cord  :|
  • I used to be able to go all day without charging but now I have to charge on my commute home or else I won’t make it to the end of the night.

  • I’m 100% app. It doesn’t drain mine. So, I was just curious.

This^! I have a 18+ month old iPhone 6s, and I can use the app all day and not need a charge, as long as I’m on WiFi. I find it terribly odd that it kills others’ phones.

  • Also, if it drains your battery, why not just hold off until you can access a computer? I agree with pps about how there are FB groups already set up, so why go to the trouble of TB in the first place?

Also, this is not an attack on you @pghctwife, I promise, but it brought up an UO for me. I hate bitmojis and emojis. I think they are childish. Ill use an emoji every now and then if I think my tone isnt coming off correctly in a conversation, but I try not to. A bunch of my girlfriends use bitmojis in our group chats all the time and it drives me up a wall. I don't need to see a little avatar of you holding a stack of pancakes when we are talking about breakfast.
