@ferris0906 I like all of the boy names. I prefer Nathaniel and Isaac with the middle name of Henry more than Bennett, but I don’t have a real reason why, just think they sound better.
I agree that Bennett Henry doesn't really go.

We are leaning towards Maximus John and will call him Max. I already know people have a lot of opinions, but neither my husband or I really care about outside opinions!
@runninginva so sorry she is putting that pressure on you. With DD my MIL had very strong opinions (about everything during my pregnancy) and actually called me after she left the hospital voice her opinion between our 2 final name choices. I simply said while I appreciate your opinion, it will not have any weight in our final decision and calmly hung up.
At the end of the day I think it is our decision and everyone grows into their name and tends to own it on their own. Deep breaths Mamas...only 19 (more or less) weeks of unwarrented advice!
@kbfash, thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately, my mother in law passed when my husband was a child. That means his grandmothers take on that role in many respects. Right now we're between 2 names: Eli and Jacob. Robert will be the middle name, after my grandfather. Jacob would be after my husband's grandfather. Eli is just a name we like. Any thoughts?
What are some alternate options to spelling the name Jacquelyne that would still look/feel normal to you? It was my grandmother’s name, but I’ve always had a hard time w the spelling of it. Dh and I both like Jackie, so maybe just skipping the full version would be an option, bbuutt I also love that the “lyne” matches my mom’s name as kind of a nod to her.
Also, our original top pick (before it was stolen) was Anna.... we just realized Hannah is basically as good for flow and feel, and wouldn't have confusingly similar pet/nicknamesw Annie the cousin. Why didn’t we think of this sooner??
And, I almost burst into tears after the amnio was done and right then and there wanted to tell DH she is Brooke and that she just has to be Brooke. But, I waited, and the hormonal surge settled, and now I’m just wanting that magic “yes!” feeling for both of us. ...which fyi, doesn’t always exist, w dd it was much more a “that feels like home in an unmagical just normal and still right kind of way”.

@jhjocelyn you could do Jacklyn or Jaclyn both are a little easier and more modern spellings of the name. Maybe you and your H will still end up back at Brooke and think it is perfect for her, but understand the desire to spend time talking and thinking of the name that fits.

Thanks guys, great inspiration. Now to talk to DH, and see what his stutter thinks. Some particular vowel/consonant sounds are huge putter triggers, so we need to avoid them in names, his own name has one and he has a hell of a time introducing himself!

MH and I have long loved Liam but decided last week that it was completely out because it's ranked #2. Well, now it's ranked #1 for 2017! The two names MH and I are considering didn't drastically change in popularity, thankfully. Wesley became slightly more popular in 2017 and Isaac became slightly less popular. Neither changes bug me.
How do your favorite names rank for 2017? Any interesting observations?
@jhjocelyn My name is Jacqueline but I have always been called Jackie. I love the spelling of my first name but it seems to really freak people out, like they don't know what to do with it. I pronounce my first name Jac-Quil-Lyn. People always say Jack-Lyn or try to pronounce it Jac-leen, the French pronounciation. I hate both and have accepted that I'll probably never go by Jacqueline. Just a thought in terms of spelling. I prefer my traditional spelling but the world seems confused by it. Oh and Canadians always spell my nick name Jacqui which is fine but I've always spelled it Jackie.
@jaylii Thanks!! My grandmother used the french pronunciation, but I always read it as “Jack-Quell-In” and was confused when I heard others say “Jack-Lynn”. I didn’t hear it used much as when we visited she went by “Grammy” and most of her friends called her Jackie.
I had no idea pronouncing it the way you do could be correct! I think we’re leaning away for now, but if we have more in the future it will def be back on the table.

We are finally kind of talking about names. MH and I don't tend to agree on names very easily. And I never get that feeling of "Oh, this is definitely the right name!" We'll probably narrow it down to 2, either 2 equal choices or a front-runner and a backup, then decide for sure once we see her squishy little face.
Does anyone else get self-conscious suggesting names to their SO? I always feel like I'm waiting for just the right time to bring it up so he'll be more likely to like it (as if he's that easily swayed), or just putting it off. Intellectually I know it doesn't matter if we agree on everything right away - we definitely don't in the rest of life! lol - but I feel a lot of pressure about this for whatever reason.
I'm impressed with the name generator on Nameberry. I've used it off and on over the years just for fun. Yesterday I put in three names that I kind of like and in the results were my older daughter's name, several other names that I've considered, and a few names that I hadn't thought of that I like.
Right now my personal top three are Clara, Felicity, and Lydia. I also like Livia. I sort of worry that it might get mixed up with Olivia and/or Lydia too often... but DD1's name gets mixed up with another all the time, and my own name is one of several common variations that I get called a lot too, and it's never been a big deal to me. @treeofcheem Yes MH and I totally got in a little tiff while discussing names! I felt like he was dismissing the ones I liked and not taking it seriously. We were both really tired at the time and it was not a good time to be talking about it. We revisited the topic a couple days later and it went a lot better. We ended up agreeing on a name after "living" with it for a few weeks. Also, Clara was our #1 girl name Keeping it on my name list for potential future pregnancy!

@treeofcheem I completely avoid the conversation of names. I know eventually we will have to make a decision, but he has been so easy about everything else with the pregnancy that I have a feeling this will be the thing he is most opinionated about. I have a middle name I absolutely want to use and a first name I like, but I’m afraid if I bring them up he will shut them down,
This is such an important thing, it will be with this person for the rest of their life...unless they hate it so much that they decide to change it when they get older. In which case, I would feel so sad that something that we had to choose with lots of thought was disliked by my child that much.
Boy name is all set and we have a list of about 5 girl names, I think that's all I have the brain power for because now I can't narrow the list down. DH isn't much help but at least agrees with the favorites list. ... Sigh ....
I looove researching and talking about names, so thought I’d share our decision-making process but if that doesn’t interest you, the first sentence of this post can serve as TLDR We knew we would use James in some capacity because it’s a family name on both sides of our families. We considered it for the first name, but it was like #2 in popularity in our state and I really did not want a super popular name. I also wanted this baby to have his *own* name (our DD has her *own* first name but family middle name). We struggled with finding a first name but after talking about Elliott and thinking about it for close to a month, we agreed it felt right. Our criteria: a classic/somewhat “old fashioned” name; a name that stands on its own and doesn’t easily lend itself to a nickname; needed to like the meaning behind the name; could not end in “-an”, “-en” or “-on” due to our last name (this was a real challenge with boy names); not super popular (Elliott has never been over #150 in popularity in our state). Also, “Ella” was one of our favorite girl names when we were pregnant with DD.
Our #2 boy name was Everett. For fun: our #1 girl name was Clara, other favorites: Nora, Cora, Hannah, Eleanor, Madeline, Violet and Charlotte.
Me: 32 DH: 32 BFP #1: 1/23/2012 DD: Born 9/20/2012 BFP #2: 12/30/2017 DS: Due 9/10/2018
We only had one name picked out that worked for a boy or a girl, but when we found out it was a boy, we really wanted to save that name for a possible girl! I saw someone here mentioning a few weeks back having Everett as a middle name and it stuck with me but as a first name. Luckily DH has loved my only 2 name suggestions
@southernlady07 Great name for baby boy MH and I have discussed using Elliot for our baby boy but I've told him it means we will never have an Eleanor in the future which is his number 1 girl name. I think two names that begin in El is too close.
@jaylii I totally get that...there was another boy name we really liked but the first three letters were the same as our DD's We would like to have a third as well and I didn't want to feel stuck using the same first letter for each child's name!
Me: 32 DH: 32 BFP #1: 1/23/2012 DD: Born 9/20/2012 BFP #2: 12/30/2017 DS: Due 9/10/2018
@jaylii I totally get that...there was another boy name we really liked but the first three letters were the same as our DD's We would like to have a third as well and I didn't want to feel stuck using the same first letter for each child's name!
We haven't really talked names much so far but the only one that has come up has been another R name (DS is an R). Since we only plan to have the 2 kids I figure the same initial would be fine. If we planned for more than 2 I'd probably feel the same. They're Ra and Ro though so it helps that only the first letter matches.
Our big catch is that we used my grandfather's name for DS's middle name so it seems right to use MH's grandfather's name for DS2's middle name. Except both grandfathers names start with J. If we go for another R first name no way am I using another J middle name. I did find a variation of MH's grandfather's name that starts with I though, so that could work.

Since we are team green in this house, we've decided to come up with top 3 boy & girl names and then decide from there once the little one is out. Girl names on the list: Lemon, Josephine & Loretta (name 4 - Zelda (it's a family name on DHs side). Boy names: Elvis, Sterling, & Atticus.
But, this will probably change as we get closer to the arrival. We're not terribly decisive.
I love love love the name Zelda but won’t use it because of the video game (which I’ve never played but my husband was apparently obsessed with in his adolescence).
@EErin86 it is the name of my husband’s aunt (if she were alive she’d be close to 90) and one of her aunt’s names. I’m not sure where/why it originated but it is a name that always stood out in family documents!
@magnolia209 I am *not* laid back in any othee ways so the team green & chill naming method are my way of creeping into the world of “let it happen” that I’ll have to adjust to as a FTM.
@samd6 I hear you! I’m a ftm also and definitely not a laid back person! I’m not sharing the names here (or anywhere), but I am being “laid back” about the names by really letting my husband take the lead. He really wants the first name. I like it. I like others too, but I am totally fine with the one he loves.
