I like Felix, but I definitely have a few names like that, @jsnakehole . And a few names that seems to always come attached to problem children. I have a bad record with Nicholas. Although I've had at least one decent kid named Nicholas, I've had at least 4 bad experiences, going back to student teaching. Christopher is hit and miss, too. Maybe it's just because these are common names >.<
@lalala2004 I've had hit or miss with Nicholas (I had one Nicholas at summer camp who was an angel), but have never taught a good Christopher. My Christopher last year was adorable and had an amazing accent (he wore a 'yacket' when it was cold and drank 'yoose' when he was thirsty) but could not sit still if I paid him.
I feel bad because awful Felix was probably a product of his awful hipster parents. They felt he shouldn't have to do anything he didn't want to do, which included homework and practicing his handwriting. He didn't learn his classmates' names (and there were only 15 kids that year!) until spring. I would send home extra work (because he was way behind he rest of the class) and his grandma would try to do some with him but it was never finished. They refused to get him speech services despite him desperately needing it. And they let him pick his own haircut so he had a mullet. And he was a total brat.

Gah! @brezzy1928 I didn't even think about popularity. Liam was #3 in the state in 2016, with 316 babies born. Now I don't know any, so that's encouraging. But I try to avoid the 'tops'. hmmmm
@calimom2524 its funny but of the middle names you threw out two of them have family connections lol

@mrsbubbles-2 I would love to incorporate one of my grandpa's names, but I am not super crazy about any of them. Their middle names aren't much better either.

@hardlyhannah I think if you love it you should use it! I think the good news with all these super hipster names being used is regular names are not being used as much.
@livinthesunnylife I like Carter. I think it's a good, strong name. I also don't know many. But I know names can vary widely based on area. My son's name is stupid popular up north but I don't know anyone with his name here.
As for me ... I'm still so stuck. I like names but nothing jumps out at me. The only name I liked enough to use last time is my son's name, lol. Elaina is the only girl name I like but my mom told me she absolutely hated it because my stepdad had an ex with that name. I am not talking names with family anymore.
Maybe I will feel better about choosing a name when I find out what the baby is on Easter.

What about Eliana? It's kind of similar to Elaina but hopefully enough of a difference.

That's a thought - my dad's parents loved Edisto Beach - ashes spread there and everything - we could use Edward. Thank you for the idea!

@hardlyhannah I love Liam - but H is a hard no against it so we've crossed it off the list. @juliebird6 I like Felix - not a love situation, but I do like it. @derbysquirrel I'm gonna say I'm not really for the Mary Jean Marie... nms to put them together, but I do like the names individually. Mary Jean is super cute!
@calimom2524 I like that name too. My husband's grandmother is named Helen, and we would like to honor her somehow and I found out that the name "Elaina" is a variation of Elaine, which is the French variation of Helen. So we liked it for that reason but I just feel back at square one. My mom can say some really hateful things. (Sharply-worded, I guess.)

Believe me, I totally understand the parent hateful words. I've never told anyone our names before birth because people are less inclined to give their assholey opinions about names after the baby is already named.
@calimom2524 when I was IN LABOR (actually, in the middle of a contraction in which amniotic fluid was gushing out of me under the covers) my grandmother leaned on my bed and said she didn't like the name I picked for DS and asked where I could have possibly come up with it! Unreal. Lol. It's a very normal, common name. But, no, she "hated it."
@Firemanswife11 - you should have told her your foot itches so if she goes to the foot of your bed to scratch it you could make a very obvious point that THIS IS NOT THE TIME GRANDMA!!!
P.S. It kinda made me laugh to think of a woman in stirrups, contracting and gushing and here comes grandma with lovely words of wisdom
@juliebird6 I adore Felix! It's one of our top names too.
@derbysquirrel I wasn't a fan of Mary Jean Marie at first but it's growing on me. It definitely doesn't sound bad. Just be prepared for people to nickname her MJ if her first name is Mary Jean.
@hardlyhannah I like Liam a lot but yeah, it's popular. Maybe less so now, but a few years ago it was.

@calimom2524 can we still call her Seven until you decide? I like the spelling Riley and Eloise and Lina are both beautiful
@ecwk - I love that name! Are your boy names Irish as well?
We're also back at square 1 for baby names. So we're back to calling her Jellybean. I really like Penelope but DH is kinda meh about it. And he likes Winnie but I feel like that sounds more like it's a nick name. I'm kinda sad because I KNEW what DS's name was at like 14 weeks and I don't have that feeling this time of anything being that perfect name. Boo.
I love Penelope (my sisters girl name - she’s due in August too - would call her penny). I loved it for myself too but our last name starts with a p and dh didn’t like the alliteration. I loved poppy as a nn for it.
And i Love Winnie! My cousins daughter is Winifred called Winnie and it’s a fantastic name
I think Mary jean Marie has a really nice cadence to it, and while Mary and Marie are kinda the same name (and the name Mary Marie would be odd) the jean makes it different.
@juliebird6 DS is Felix. He's a very sweet, happy boy, and it fits him really well. We get a lot of comments from people who like his name. Obviously, people don't tell us if they don't like it.
We are currently both liking Olivia even though it is more popular than we would like. We would also like to use Evelyn as the middle after DH's grandmother. Are the double "v" sounds in Olivia Evelyn nice or too much of a mouthful? I am liking it but want to make sure I'm not just weird in that.

So I'm pretty set on little boy's middle name being Michael - it's H's dad's name and his brother's (who won't be having kids) name.
buuuuut.. I really like the names Samuel and Nathaniel... Is that double -el sound too weird? Or is it just me?
Samuel Michael Nathaniel Michael
These are both on our list, too! I would say that the double -el is not weird, but it also doesn't flow as well as others. BUT...I seriously don't think you should choose MNs based on "flow." It's just so rare that you say all your names together. So I would 100% stick to the plan as I love love love MNs that are family-based.
I have my mother's middle name and I think it's pretty cool. I'm not sure about how I would feel about my sibling also having the same middle name. It makes it less special in my opinion.
I think it's funny that everyone is saying "how often do you actually say all of the names together" because DS is in a phase where whenever anyone asks his name, instead of just saying Hugo, he rattles off his entire name. It's hilarious but at the same time I'm like dear lord stop it, stranger danger!

DS1 does the same thing and then he also refers to DS2 by his full name. DS2 was at the park the other day playing with a little boy whose name was Daniel and he was like "Hey! My name is Ethan Daniel" and I was like hush kid! People don't need that info! lol
