Re: January Symptoms

  • 35 weeks today. At night my hands are so swollen....middle of the night and first thing AM I can't close my fingers all the way to grasp something and they hurt a lot. Once I'm out of bed and start my day, after a good 45-60 mins my fingers are fine. This is so annoying. Anyone else experiencing this? Doctor says as long as it goes away its fine.
  •  I had an appointment yesterday for an ultrasound. I am at 33+5 today. The doctor let me know that my placenta has quite a bit of calcification on it and I am at a grade 3 placenta which is  usually seen closer to 40 weeks. The doctor noted that baby girls growth, fluid, and the blood flow seemed fine but I’m going in weekly now for non-stress tests and I might be induced early.  Has anyone else had this happen and how did it turn out? I’m just worried the placenta was suddenly stop working. Just a little bit stressed.

This is exactly what I have been busting my ass to avoid, because this happened with my last pregnancy.  The only way I noticed an improvement was to reduce carbs and eat no carbs at dinner.  I would also mention this to your OB.

The monitoring sounds sufficient, and it sounds like your baby is ok, but you could be induced early if it progresses.   We are just to the point that the risk vs benefit of delivery is lowering and sometimes babies will do better on the outside.  It's great news that everything looks good for now.  Good catch by your OB!
  • @DDRRT1982 - NO CARBS!?!?!?!!? :open_mouth:
Yep!  It sucked, but for some reason the carbs made me swell.  I could eat all the fat and protein I wanted, but if I had carbs I swelled everywhere.  Leg swelling can be manageable, but hand swelling sucked and made everything I did way more complicated.  I forget if hand swelling is a symptom of PIH or if it is related to something else, so it's worth mentioning to your OB.  Mine was not related to anything other than just carb in take, so it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad, but it's worth a mention to be safe.
  • @DDRRT1982 - ugh! I have asked her about the swelling and was told it's normal. As long as I still have ankle bones lol which I can see but they're super puffy! I have been eating a lot of carbs lately because that's just what I want. I wonder if I change it out and eat less if that'll help? I'll give it a try! *Throws out PB &J I packed for lunch today...*
  • @crossfitbabybump Can I have your PB&J? That sounds so good right now...
  • @stlbuckeye132 - you sure can! I'm craving sushi!! ... which is carbs... damn it !
  • Ok!!! Will try to cut the carbs!!  :# desperate times call for desperate measures!  :s
  • @crossfitbabybump sounds like you need sashimi. ;) no carbs!! I would kill for just a huge plate of sashimi right now, hahaha.

  • @ashleyf911 - that will have to suffice! I'm so hungry!!!!! lol
  • Ugh now I just want sushi for dinner but also don’t want dinner.
  • Oh man, I have horrible carpal tunnel and have had it for at least 6 weeks (definitely does NOT go away during the day), but I don't even eat a lot of carbs and when I don't eat any at all I feel awful, so that's out. My doctor said it just happens and the only thing you can do is wear a hand brace thingy at night and that it will go away within 6 weeks after birth, at the latest. It's definitely one of those things that is supposedly worse for MoMs though, so maybe you guys will shake it sooner than me. I find the only thing that helps is not doing certain things. Like I can type OK, but I only drink things out of bottles when someone else is around to open the cap for me. Bottle caps are the devil right now.
  • @chasingroygbiv you are the farthest along in our group, right?  I know it's miserable, but FX it is making progress.
  • @vflux33 same with me...the bottle caps. Won't open them myself either. I can't write well without wanting to cry...have trouble putting on my seatbelt etc. etc. Really is painful and awful I know. Makes me sad to think about holding baby and maybe being in pain, and not being able to do my best with things...closing a diaper, cleaning him properly, etc. :( hopefully it will heal quicker than 6 weeks
