Is anyone else having trouble breathing/shortness of breath or trouble getting a deep breath? I was at my Drs apt Friday and I explained my recent issues. Those two things as well as nausea, bad headache (sometimes I wake up with it), chest tightening, mild swelling and sheer exhaustion. I reside in a two story house and just getting to the top of the steps I am winded and seeing stars
She's sending me for an EKG and stress test as well as sending out my blood for thyrid check and iron check.
Through my own idiocy I believe that I failed my sugar test Friday (bc I didn't realize I was drinking coffee when I walked into the office)
Disclaimer is that this is my 3rd child. I don't remember this happening before.... my other two are almost 2.5 and 9mo
SOB, headaches, mild swelling, and exhaustion are all very common in the third trimester. I had all those today as well. Chest tightening is a different story, although with my first pregnancy my Asthma became worse right away, and all of those other symptoms (minus swelling) are what happen when I have an asthma attack.
@rw3190 It's pretty common to have shortness of breath in the third trimester. The baby is getting bigger and crowding your lungs. I'm going through the same thing. Your doctor is probably just running tests to be thorough but I wouldn't worry too much about it until your test results come back.
@rw3190 - third pregnancy here. I’ve had varying levels of that with each pregnancy. This time it started earlier for me. It’s just the placement of the baby crowding the lungs. It’s frustrating and easy to panic a little if you can’t catch your breath and don’t know why. Rest assured, it’s normal.
@rw3190 if you're seeing stars it seem like a good idea that you're Dr is taking this seriously and requesting further tests. I definitely am breathing heavier when I go from the basement to the second floor, but I can still hold a conversation.
Sorry you're going through this. I hope everything is ok. It sounds stressful, but necessary to get the testing done. Keep us posted.
My legs and feet are so swollen my shoes don't fit anymore. My hands are swollen, too. Can't wear my wedding bands and they are hurting when I try to close my fist, drive, and I do a lot of typing at work. I looked at symptoms of Preeclampsia but other than the swelling, nothing is concerning me of having it. I had a dr. apt on Friday and she said the swelling I had was normal. Just feels really weird and very uncomfortable.

I had Pre E with my first. I had BAD swelling from the beginning of the 3rd trimester (hands, ankles, feet) but no protein or blood pressure issues until 38 weeks. I remember the weekend before my appt I had a horrible headache, and I was so miserable I couldn’t sleep. I just thought, I bet on Monday they are going to say my blood pressure is high... and yep, I was right.
Moral if the story: even if you have no other symptoms now, listen to your body. If you suddenly develop a really bad headache with that swelling and can’t get rid of it, just go in and pee in a cup.
I hope your swelling goes away soon, and you stay healthy. Going to the doctor wearing flip flops because that is the only shoe you can fit in March in Michigan was No Fun!
I feel that 1st trimester fatigue again. I can’t tell if it’s that or if I’ve just been going non-stop thanks to a toddler and DH being out of town or working long hours since the new year. I was actually thinking back to my baby shower with DD1. I think I was around 34 weeks? I remember just getting dressed that day sucked up all my energy, so I guess I’m getting to that point again. I’m also feeling really down about my body. I can see some stretch marks coming on, and I just feel so large. I know it’s just a mental game right now though, and if I worked out, it would help. But here I am, laying in bed reading and playing on my phone.

Thank you for this reminder. From here on out it's mind over matter. Last couple of weeks right on up through PP gonna need some of that mental toughness
@Cowboycorgi - I will definitely keep an eye out for headaches! Just taking it easy for now, trying to wear compression socks and drinking lots of water! The fatigue is starting to get to me and it's getting more painful to walk around. I also wear a FitBit so I keep track of my heart rate on there whenever I feel like I'm getting out of breathe too easily. With Pre E, did they induce you since you had the high blood pressure? At 38 weeks?
I’ve been MIA for awhile but I hope everyone is doing well! We’re almost at the end ladies!
Does anyone else have PUPPs? I had it with my first pregnancy and it was pretty terrible. Luckily this time around I was given triamcinolone cream to use twice a day but by the end of my work day the itch is intense. Besides cold compresses, does anyone else have any other ideas to relieve it?
@crossfitbabybump , I’m so sorry. I completely understand how miserable the swelling can be. I am counting my lucky stars that I haven’t had any swelling or major discomfort this pregnancy. I was so scared of a repeat of my first.
i was induced the day of my 38 week appointment. They sent me to the hospital for monitoring, but warned me that I most likely would be induced because they didn’t think my BP would come down from bedrest. It actually just kept getting higher. I think 200something or 100something was the last they took before fully admitting me.
My birth story is on the Med Free thread right now if you want to read it. It might give you some peace of mind as the swelling from PreE was way worse than labor and delivery for me. After birth my BP was back down to 100/70ish within the hour. The swelling however got worse for a few days after birth which is normal... but not pleasant.
@missnc77 I went shopping today and had to take breaks in between stores. I feel useless sometimes and feel like I don't get enough done in a day but DH keeps texting me through the day reminding me to slow down and stop trying to do too much. That makes me feel better.
@ashtuesday omg yes. I already told my friends that I’m sorry that that’s all I talk about right now but I’m a SAHM so it’s not like my life is very exciting in the first place! I’m soooo ready for this girl to get here!
@sarahhedger7 I didn’t have BH with DS at all until the very end and then I didn’t feel them—I just saw them when we had to go be monitored for a few hours.
I have been more of a lurker during pregnancy on this forum, but reading everyone's comments here made me feel like i'm not crazy! I'm due March 1 and so uncomfortable that I can't believe I have 6+ more weeks. My husband just keeps saying "one day at a time" to me, haha! I share in so many of the symptoms that everyone here shared. I also am having back spasms that feel like a knife to the back. They have been occurring on and off for several weeks and I've tried everything suggested by my OB (massage, heating pad, tennis balls, swimming, stretching, etc.). I can't seem to get relief. I feel the best when I spend all day with my heating pad on the couch, but I feel like I should be moving to strengthen muscles. Anyone else experience anything similar?
@aos620 have you tried a chiropractor? I haven’t had that with this pregnancy, but I have scoliosis and have back spasms occasionally with that—a lot of time it’s because I’m out of alignment and the chiropractor can help with that. Also, pay attention to the sides of your ribs—they may be tight from your ribcage expanding and baby being there and they connect to your back and could be causing the spasms.
@mdafarmchick sorry about your scoliosis! I hope it has been ok with your pregnancy. I have some friends who experienced relief from back pain with a chiropractor during pregnancy, but my OB told me not to see one since I have never had an adjustment before. I think I will push her harder when I see her next week to see if this is a real option. And good call on the rib cage. I hadn't even thought of that, but I bet you're right!
@aos620 - yes what @mdfarmchick said! but do your research and find a good chiropractor that isn't out to just get money from you. Also I heard acupuncture can help but I've been too terrified to try it. lol
@sarahhedger7 I can't tell you for sure if I did or didn't get them with my first pregnancy, so I would guess I didn't get them. It seems like something distinct enough that I could have figured out what they were. Same with this pregnancy. A couple of weeks ago, my belly did feel really tight, but it was also on Christmas Day where I ate a ton of food, so, I don't think it was BH.
@megpeg I have a really hard time with feeling like I'm being lazy, but DH is a saint that points out everything I do. But still, I just feel like I should be doing more!
@missnc77 that's how I feel too. With my first pregnancy I was in college, the second was working, and now that I'm a SAHM I feel like the house should be perfect or I am slacking. DH doesn't think that at all.
Funny story about LO hiccups. I told my younger brother feel my belly while I was having them. He did, eyes wide and all. I told him thay happens at least 3 times a day. He said LO better be grateful, then wouldn't touch my stomach for weeks. He's 24 and so not mature enough to even deal.
Baby hiccups several times a day, every day here, Too!
Does anyone out there have low platelets or lupus? They are running more blood tests and now having me see a high risk OB. Makes me nervous but I feel like I'm in good hands, so that helps.
The swelling seems to be worse first thing in the morning when I wake up. Mild cramping lately, more, stronger Braxton Hicks and leaky boobs! Oh, and my belly button is a full outie now. Makes me giggle.
I've got low platelets too. We are monitoring them. It is scary but as you said, being in good hands is comforting. They have dealt with our cases numerous times. Don't worry mama...all will go well.
@baybeesunflower I also have low-ish platelets. My doctor told me it's very common in pregnancy and almost never an issue. I'm getting re-tested in a week or so.

My platelets are low too - the doctor’s are just watching my blood work, but my doctor and sister who’s a nurse said they are nothing to worry or stress about. It’s expected some in later pregnancy because of the high blood volume, however some dip pretty low. It might cause some heavier bleeding at birth but no real concern for pregnant women as it corrects itself. It eased my mind because google is never a good friend of mine.
@fatstagnation I am pretty sure mine has moved into full on SPD and I’m having trouble walking and getting up and down. The basic yoga pose is about the only way I can sit and I can’t use a ball to sit on at all.
Re: January Symptoms
Alright
Thank you ladies
A little Nervous given that this really didn't happen before....one baby at 42w 3d and the other at 39
