Random question y’all: I was planning to announce my pregnancy at work after New Years. I told my boss several weeks ago but no one else at work knows. However over the break, another woman in my suite announced on FB that she’s expecting (FTM). Now I feel like I should wait a week or two to let her have her moment. Problem is I’ve popped! STM body has set in. Several family members even commented on my baby bump over Christmas (not in a bad way). What to do? Try to hide it another week? Go ahead and announce as planned?
I would announce anyways, before people start to guess and take the fun out of it! @tarheelgirl8
I missed another call from the genetic counselor with my NIPT results! Called back less than 2 minutes later and she was with a patient. Waiting by the phone all day today lol!
I love glee! But it definitely is more eyeroll now that I’m further into adulthood.
I took both both of my kids to the grocery store today and I’m exhausted... which is ridiculous lol. I can’t wait for bedtime.
@tarheelgirl8 I’d announce too! Like someone else said, she might be super excited for you and to have someone else to talk pregnancy with! Especially a mom who’s been there done that. I thought for sure that my bff (FTM) would want all of the spotlight on her because that’s the type of girl she is, but we have another friend and me pregnant right now and she’s super excited that we’re all pregnant together
ETA: oh and if she’s not excited for you, eh. It’s just the work community. She can get all her head pats from her home people.
@tarheelgirl8 I vote announce too! If she’s bothered by you announcing now, she’d probably be bothered if you announced a week from now too. Unless you think it would affect the work dynamic I wouldn’t hesitate to announce, chances are she’ll be just as happy for you!
Random... but I thought I was supposed to have an appointment on Tuesday, but it turns out they scheduled me too early (I guess it's supposed to be a 15-week check in with the OB, and I'm only 13 weeks.) I know it's only two extra weeks, but I was really looking forward to hearing the heartbeat again. I haven't had an appointment since the end of week 8, so it will be almost 7 weeks between appointments. I'm just SO WORRIED that something's wrong, even though I have no reason to think there is.
TL;DR: FTM freaking out, would love some reassurance that my nugget is doing okay.
@christycalifornia Glee was great until Corey Montieth (Finn) died. That episode where they play his real life death into the show, I bawled. Tried watching episodes after and just couldn't do it.
I'm feeling as though I need to go to the restroom to wipe every 10 minutes or so. I've started wearing panty liners, however still feel super wet. I was just reading discharge picks up around 10 weeks. Then there is an odd smell, not bad, or concerning, just odd. Good times...
@samjjorgensen I too am a FTM. I broke down and bought a Doppler to ease my anxious mind. Ive had a pretty easy time hearing baby's heart beat, however I know there are some who have trouble finding it quickly.
@samjjorgensen that stinks, I'm sorry. I'm sure everything is fine but I'd be breaking down my doctors door if he tried to make me go 7 weeks between appointments, haha.
@zombiehoohaa I wore panty liners for all of 2nd and 3rd tri with my first pregnancy. I prefer thongs but ended up buying giant hanes granny panties for the first time in my adult life so I could wear the full on liners. Pregnancy is gross.
@zombiehoohaa I can't even watch that episode. They sing seasons of love right? That song (especially the reprise) already make me bawl in that context I would have lost it.
Afm, dh woke up with a gross tummy. He had 4 beers in close succession ( I got him abeer he has trouble getting as a surprise) and had popcorn before bed. He wakes up..."ugh, too much popcorn. " yeah, sure that's it. **rolls eyes**
@samjjorgensen just wanted to offer some solidarity. I'm not a FTM but I only saw the baby at 7 weeks, and don't get back until 12+4 (Tuesday!) and I've been a nervous wreck wondering. I never went this long last pregnancy. There's no way of truly knowing everything is okay in there, unless you get a doppler I guess, but at the same time there's no real reason to think anything is wrong. So try to relax and know that your feelings are totally normal.
Is anyone else experiencing ridiculously cold temps? We're at 5 degrees right now (before windchill) and it's starting to snow. My husband just left for work and I don't know how I'm going to entertain my toddler and dog all day since it's too cold to go outside. It's going to be more of the same tomorrow too. I have errands that need to be done, but the thought of bundling the kid up enough to go out is exhausting.
@zande2016, yes, totally ridiculous temps here in Massachusetts—would really love for this cold snap to end! It must be tough having a little one when you can’t go outside.
I’m determined to go maternity clothes shopping today and get a few things before ordering other stuff online. I’m desperate for sweaters and new pants, and I’ll be 13 weeks tomorrow. I hope I’ll find stuff I like!
@sm05-2 I’ve been sleuthing online for mat clothes the last couple days, as it is way too cold to go shopping and I’ll be 13w in a few days too. It seems like ‘non-mat’ mat clothes are all the rage these days? But to me that just seems like a huge pain in the arse!
Sweet Christmas, potty training is going to kill me. Left the house to go to the store today and came back .25 miles later because DS needed to go potty. Did that. Got back in the car. Came back again to potty. Got back in the car WITH the potty this time. Made it to the parking lot of the post office 1.5 miles away and sat in it for almost 30 minutes with DS trying to poop in the backseat and people side eyeing me for idling my car (its -22). Finally came home and guess what? Doesn't have to potty. WTF!?!?!
@samjjorgensen I would totally +1 the at home fetal doppler. You no doubt have no reason to worry, but hearing that little whooshing whenever you want is pretty reassuring. It can take a bit at first to find it but I can find nugget right away now that I know where to look (PS do you also call your baby nugget? I love it)
@SmashJam bless your soul for taking him out of the house! I’m JUST trusting DS in his car seat.
@pretzellover what are non-mat mat clothes? Like oversized sweaters? If so I plan on rocking them until I can’t anymore, but that’s basically my wardrobe any given day.
@sm05-2@acunamatada yes! So per google, these stylish pregnant bloggers are too cool for regular mat clothes... so they focus on baggier styles and/or belly friendly cuts (such as empire waists), and only seem to buy 1-2 pairs of mat jeans, mat leggings and sometimes tees.
There are even websites that are non mat clothes for preggos - such as shoptilden.com (super $$ bit good for inspo) and technically that’s the whole angle of Hatch Collection too I guess? The bloggers seem to swear by Zara, H&M (somewhat disposable but stylish clothes), Asos, TopShop.
Not sure if it’s totally realistic - I’m still just looking for ideas online and creating a gallery.
Ps: the reason my old arse is googling this stuff is bc I live in NYC and work in fashion; my office is literally >80% women - so the pressure is real!
Lol@acunamatada I was doing pull ups out of the house but it set us back when he realized he could pee in them and nothing bad happened. I bring the potty with us everywhere and pray.
Also non mat mat clothes are already my life, and stitch fix sent me some good stuff like that in my last box including these amazing jeggings that don't make me look like a sausage
@pretzellover thanks for explaining that. Makes sense...I think I kinda do that naturally because some styles just work. For example, NY&C sells pull-up work pants. I have a couple pairs (and I did last pregnancy, too) and it's awesome. They're not maternity, but they feel like it if you push down the band in the front. I also love the look of slouchy long sweaters and leggings and a big ol' scarf. I haven't popped yet at 11 weeks though I'm a TTM, so my regular clothes are still fitting pretty well. I'm gonna wait as long as I can before I go hunting for maternity clothes. I think I may be able to snag some good stuff from friends this time.
I do the non-mat mat clothes thing, too. My maternity tote is probably about 25% non-mat. I went through it the other day to remember what I had and see what I needed to supplement with (going from a November to a July pregnancy so seasons/clothes are a bit off). I went to the mall with my mom afterwards and I bought 6-7 items that will work at various points in 2nd-3rd-4th tri but they are all non-mat. Half of them I’ll keep in my wardrobe after I’m back to “me” but the other half I won’t... but they were still insanely cheaper than if I would have bought a similar “mat” piece.

@kinny512 I do call the baby nugget! I don’t even know how it started but it’s how I always mentally refer to him/her. I’ve been trying to avoid the at home Doppler... my uterus was titled back at my first OB appointment and I’m worried I won’t be able to find the heartbeat which would just freak me out more
I am about 99% sure I’m feeling baby! I’m 13 weeks today with baby number 4. I’ve also been looking through super old pregnancy pictures of me with my first. Feeling super emotional. I was a baby myself practically. Newly married and 22. My firstborn will soon be 10! And here I am starting all over. I love looking through old pictures!
Well, I managed to buy a few things: mat jeans, gray mat work pants, a mat bra, and a couple of mat sweaters for the freezing east coast. There were sales today, so the pricing wasn’t too bad.
I’m a little embarrassed to say that I fit into the maternity clothes pretty well already (I don’t know if that’s because I’m a size small). I mean, I noticed my pants getting tighter and my sweaters riding a bit up my belly, but I convinced myself that my regular clothes still fit, which they sort of do.
Looking forward to more online shopping in the future, non mat and mat! (Though I wonder how much non mat stuff I’ll be able to find at eight months?)
@samjjorgensen, I went in person to a Macy’s near me that had a maternity department (included some brands like Motherhood Maternity and Jessica Simpson). Online I’ll probably check out Old Navy and the Loft, because my dress code at work is business casual.
@samjjorgensen I shopped Old Navy online. I'm petite (5'3) and their mat clothes fit very well! I've also bought their petite jeggings (non mat). They are elastic waist. Very comfortable!!
Damn Target for having all Christmas stuff on sale for 70% off. Where am I going to hide this crap and then remember I have it for next year...lol totally bought my dog Christmas pjs for next year.

Sounds similar to me! 4th babe, 22 when I had my now 10 year old.
@pretzellover I have a couple of long tunic sweaters I wore near full term with #3 that weren't maternity and did quite a few non maternity maxi dresses, skirts, etc. However, I know by now that I like maternity fitted shirts with the ruching (sic?) on the sides. I don't like flowy shirts when I'm cleaning and like tightness of fitted shirts.
I had another friend recently pregnant who said she was able to make due without much maternity because of the styles right now,

@tarheelgirl8 announce anyway! I bet she's likely to be excited to have someone to talk to pregnancy about as a FTM.
I re-watched one episode of Glee and it turned into three. I feel like I'm about to slip back into the rabbit hole. Nooooooooooo...
Also I've never watched an episode of Glee. FFFC?
