friend: Do you have a theme in mind? me: <blank terrified look> friend: Come on, it doesn't have to be baby-related.... me: <tiny voice> Tacos? friend: <not skipping a beat> Great! Now, do you want to play games? me: <furrowed brow> Not really, but maybe I can open presents at that time so it's less boring for guests but I can still thank people in person properly? <sigh> I wish we could play cards against humanity, bc that's the only game I ever want to play. friend: Done!
I'm sure it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but my friend reassured me that's ok?
I love seeing all these great invite ideas! So much creativity and personality! My best friend is throwing mine and went with a Lord of The Rings theme for the invite since I love the books. Im not very tech savvy to upload a picture but it has elven script and says "please join us in welcoming baby Carson to Middle earth" All food and drinks are going to be named after food mentioned in the book, like Lembas for the chips.
@stalkinghorse I love this idea! And it may not be traditional but who cares! We did a coed baby shower with beer pong and flip cup. Which may have been tacky but we were the first in our friend group to have a baby and DH was so disappointed when I told him men don't usually go to those things. Plus, we are not traditional.
@stalkinghorse amazing invite ! I love the nontraditional-ness of it. Like @bchalm we're the first of our friends to do the baby thing so trying to keep ours half baby oriented-half "see all our friends for a bbq" vibe.
@stalkinghorse I would also like to come lol. I keep having to veto shower games as they come up. I wouldn't if someone suggested Cards Against Humanity!
@ftm_ohio I am happy to send an anonymous email to your hosts making a suggestion... if you want there is a parent centric version so it’s more on message?
@stalkinghorse I actually do have a printed version of "babies against parenthood" which is kinda cute. My hosts are my cousins and they are taking my suggestions, but I think if it was the kinda thing you could plan yourself I'd definitely go more the way you are!
Idk if you've already had yours, but for mine I requested baby-themed scattegories (think themes like things that come out of babies, items found in a diaper bag) and gift bingo so everyone doesn't stare at me while I open presents.
Re: The Great Baby Shower Thread!
@frenchiekinplusone um, YES, absolutely you can. The conversation with my friend was like:
friend: Do you have a theme in mind?
me: <blank terrified look>
friend: Come on, it doesn't have to be baby-related....
me: <tiny voice> Tacos?
