I have a week off from classes (in school to finish education degree). Time to do nothing...well as much nothing as a 3 year old will let me do. Thank God she’s not up yet..
Also, has anyone not had their OB schedule something with them yet? I called mine last seen and she said they were going to check the maternity coverage then call us back to set up an appointment. I just want to know when I am going to hear a heartbeat so I can tell people.
@swizz09 I just called the appointment number and made an appointment. Mine is at 8 weeks. The first appointment is with the NP though instead of the OB.

@swizz09 - best beginning post! That was me yesterday! Plus being tired all the time does not help!! lol. I have to take a FMU into my doctor's office, and then they'll schedule from there. I am hoping to do this on Friday, if not earlier. Since by Friday I'll be 1 week and a day late.
@ajsanders-2 I find it really strange that you need to bring FMU in for them to use the same type of test you use at home. Like they don't believe you can read a test or what?

@MrsMiller8588 - Me as well, but I'll follow the rules. I wanted to say can I bring in the test I peed on, because I took another one Saturday and it is pretty clear to me! haha.
System upgrades at work should be done on Thursday nights, not over the weekend. That way when they don't work you can go home early on a Friday and not have to deal with the BS on Monday morning.
We have two sleeping beauties in heaven. Jack gained his wings on 09/02/2016. Kali gained her wings on 07/28/2015. They will be forever missed.

@swizz09 sounds like we have the same life. I'm off this semester from getting my masters and credential in English so I can teach public school, and have a three-year-old. Cheers! To your other question, most OB's won't schedule anything before 8 weeks, some as long as 10. It's because it's really hard to see anything before that, so instead of causing moms worry that there's no heartbeat they just wait. It's so hard to wait!

I actually have my first appt this Wednesday, at 6 weeks. I don't know why she scheduled me so early, but I'm guessing it has something to do with my loss in September. For that one she didn't schedule me until 8 weeks and change, and I lost at 7. I guess I'll ask her why on Wednesday! I'm worried there won't be anything to see! We'll see!
Forcing myself to eat breakfast this morning has me like ughhhhhhhh. Luckily I asked The Bean what she wanted to do today and she was like "stay home with you!" We'll still have to go to the store, but between preg sick and cold sick, I'm happy to have a quiet day at home.
ALSO! Daylight savings time has it getting dark here at around 4:30 pm. What?!? Why???? I hate DST, but I hate it worse in Colorado.
Calling my midwife today when I pump after lunch. It will feel good to have something on the calendar. I am guessing it will be at 8 weeks, if I remember correctly. And, speaking of pumping after lunch, I really need to quit that. Ugh....

Isn't all the schooling so fun. I am in a program that will get me my pre-k through 3rd license. That's it. Its a masters program, but I won't have a masters when I am done. Whatever. I will be done with classes 5 days before my due date, then I think I will push back my semester of student teaching for at least one semester if not a whole year because I don't want to figure out pumping while I am student teaching.
I am also so sorry for your loss, I am sure that is causing extra anxiety. Fingers crossed everything goes well.
I just scheduled my first appointment for December 7th, I'll be almost 9 weeks. They also went ahead and scheduled my next appt for 4 weeks after that. I have different insurance than I did with DS, so I'm hoping I still get a 12w ultrasound!
@swizz09 definitely push back your student teaching a semester if you can afford to. The first five years of teaching is a lot like being tied to the back of a runaway stage coach; you feel like you're doing all you can just trying to get your feet under you. I can't even imagine doing that with the sleep deprivation of a new baby. And pumping at work is NO FUN. We do what we have to do, but man, does it suck. No pun intended.
Omg, the breakfast struggle...I freaking hate breakfast! Pre-pregnant me didn't eat anything (except coffee) until lunch, but now I feel like little bean needs breakfast, so I've been trying to force something down in the mornings, but nothing is appealing, blah.
My doctor scheduled me for an appt at 10 wks based on my LMP, however in reality I will only be around 6 weeks because I o'ed super late. Really, really hoping I get an early ultrasound to check dates!! Also wondering if there will be any extra ultrasounds/monitoring since I'm "old" now (I'm 35 now and I'll turn 36 in June).
STM+ mommas -- Does anyone remember what they usually do at the first appt? Is that the one where they do an internal, or is that later? I'm just trying to prepare myself, but it's been so long I can't remember.
@CareBear622 My midwife/OB office does an internal exam at the first appointment. With my first, the midwife thought my internal felt a little “off” (size wize) compared to my LMP so she scheduled a dating scan for me at that time. It changed the due date by 2-3 days but nothing significant.

@CareBear622 I asked what they were going to do. They will take blood, test urine for drugs and STDs? Go through all the testing and have me sign consent or denial on the test forms( like the 13 weeks scan). I will be asking for a dating scan and hopefully I will get it. I bet I will though since I had that spotting.
@carebear622 My OB puts my appointment history online and I had to go back and look since I couldn't quite remember. At my first appointment they confirmed pregnancy, then went over all the "rules and regulations" and gave me a bunch of pamphlets, we talked about what testing would be offered and sent me for blood work. My second appointment they did my internal exam and U/S.
Just scheduled first appointment for Dec 7! They had literally no available appointments before then with the midwife who delivered me last time. I will be 8w2d.

Are we going to have an ultrasound thread soon? I think some of us will be having our first ones soon!? So excited to see them! It always brings me reassurance to see everyone's healthy bean.
@CareBear622 I never had an internal exam (I mean, until the very end)! At my first, they did confirmation of pregnancy with urine, gave me all the info packets, and took some blood.
Wow, I guess everyone's doctor is different!! I remember having an internal near the beginning with my last one because I remember her poking her head up after and saying "Welp, that's the last time we'll be down there until you deliver!"... but can't remember just how far in they did it.
@KFrob I think mine is like yours...first appt just confirms pregnancy and second is the internal.
@Katm89 For sure! I have my appt Wednesday which I think should be among the first. I was gonna start if no one else had one earlier. Provided I get a US that is!
My OB does a dating ultrasound between 6-8 weeks. I will be going at 7.2, they also do an ultrasound at every appointment until about 20 weeks then they use a doppler. Seems like a lot compared to most. I like the piece of mind.

I’m jealous! With my first it was Doppler at every appointment except for 20 weeks. It’s a bit aggravating
I haven't been to Trader Joes in years, but I drove 60 mins round trip today to stock up on orange chicken, frozen quinoa, veggie lasagna, haricots verts, anything easy I can pop in the oven or in a pot in case I get too wiped to cook. And my Bean was such a good helper with her little kiddo cart, I asked her what she wanted for lunch and she picked "noo-nels". So we went to our special pho place, and she was so happy. I love days home with my girl. And Trader Joes. I forgot how much i love Trader Joes!
@christycalifornia it gets dark quick once the sun hit the mountains! Going to Trader Joe’s is a special treat because they are SO far away. My OB is by the one in Denver so that’s a positive.
My first appointment is next Thursday but one of the NPs at work offered to do an ultrasound anytime I want. I’m super tempted but I don’t want to get in the habit. I didn’t with my last pregnancy. But it’s nice to know.
@dapple88 That must be it! The mountains make the horizon higher, so sun sets earlier! Science! Also, we need more Trader Joe’s here! More everything, really. I literally lived a mile from Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Chipotle, Jamba Juice, a mall, everything! Whole Foods ready-to-eat got us through my first tri. Where I am now, everything is 20 minutes away! The closest TJ’s is in Boulder! I love Boulder, but man I wish things were closer.
