I lived in Castle Rock for two months and Denver for two months. Probably the best four months I’ve ever had, if it were up to me I’d move back there one day!
@gspmom21 It’s kind of a specialty grocery store in that it mostly carries its own brand food. It’s pretty cheap in general, but they have so many amazing snacks and sauces and dips and things that you could easily go overboard and over-budget picking up every yummy thing you see. Their Jo-Jo’s cookies made me swear off Oreos forever! They carry very specific items and produce, so I don’t go there if I have a recipe in mind. More I shop there when I want to make the kind of food they carry. They have great frozen sections, and for nuts/trail mix/frozen fruits you can’t beat their selection or price. It’s so niche there are actually Trader Joe’s cookbooks to help you assemble all their food into meals. I haven’t been regularly since shopping local became really important to me a few years ago, but when I need freezer meals for a pinch I really can’t find anything better. I wish they were more widely available!
DID YOU KNOW THAT TRADER JOES AND ALDI ARE THE SAME?! Apparently, the brothers who owned Aldi broke off into Aldi North and Aldi South in Europe, which translates to Aldi and Trader Joe’s here.
I didn't realize TJ and aldi were the same! Where I'm at in Jersey there are lots of Aldi's, have to go further north or west for TJ.
Yes! Apparently when there was just one Aldi back in Germany the brothers disagreed on whether to see cigarettes or not, so they split. Aldi here is really Aldi South and Trader Joe’s is Aldi North.
I really love my Aldi, I don’t even know the closest Trader Joe’s.
Tried cry it out for DD for 6 days. Every night she cries for 1.5 hours off and on. Two out of six nights she slept through which is not out of the ordinary. The duration of crying is not lessening, so I think it just doesn't work for our kid. Dh pissed me off. I said this clearly isn't working and he repeated response is "I have no other solution"
Thanks for nada! So I went in and held her while she flipped out for about five minutes. She is pointing at the nursing chair and getting angry. I laid her back down screaming with a pacifier. Finally she calmed and went to bed. I think we need a bumper to keep the pacis in her crib.

How old is she? There are different ways to do modified cio, like going in every 5 minutes then every 7 then every 10 exc.. Also, you can get the mesh bumpers so 1) there is no risk of suffocation and 2) she can’t stand on them.
Sorry if these are things that you’ve already considered. Just thought I would try to help. I get how frustrating it is when dh throws his hands up.
@swiss09 We did the ferber intervals from 6 months on. She is 14 months now. I should get a mesh bumper! So friggen expensive for such a small thing of material, but I bet it would help. I had a "bad" bumper in the closet, but I might use it since shes older and I let her sleep with stuffed toys.
@christycalifornia LOVE Trader Joe's! We're lucky enough to be 20 mins away from one and do weekly shopping there. The orange chicken is one of our favs!
@christycalifornia I'm so jealous! I've never been to Trader Joe's but I've heard it's amazing!! I think the closest one to me is on the other side of the city (Pittsburgh), which if anyone is familiar with the area, might as well be on the other side of the earth. We are actually making a trek over there on Sunday to go to Ikea, so I might have to scope it out and see if I can hit one up while we are out there. What are some of your favorite things to get there?
Love Trader Joe's!! It's a 20 minute drive each way for me, but I save a lot of money there over the regular grocery stores near me like Stop n Shop. Produce can be hit or miss sometimes but I usually do all my weekly shopping there. Love the frozen quinoa, tons of good frozen veggie options, and for any veggies like me out there, the soy chorizo is so good! My son is obsessed with the peanut butter filled pretzels too. I want to check out Aldi, I went once years ago and wasn't impressed but that was along time ago.
Warning, rant coming. I'm working from home today and I can't get the laptop I'm using to connect to my work computer. It's especially aggravating because it took me 7 months to finally get my boss to agree to me working from home once a week (it was part of my annual review salary negotiations in April and she agreed to it then, but every time I tried to get her to implement it, she would put me off). I finally got her to commit to me working from home every Tuesday, and that's when she decided to tell me I couldn't use one of the work laptops, and have to use my own computer (with zero explanation as to why). Well, I don't have my own working computer at home and can't afford to buy one. So even though there are two brand new working laptops that nobody uses on Tuesday's, I can't use one and they are just sitting there not being used. My coworker let me borrow his old laptop and apparently the OS is not compatible with gotomypc. So basically I can't get any work done today, and I guess my boss got her way after all and I won't be able to work from home anymore. Sorry that got really long, I'm just so angry at her! And I guess the pregnancy hormones aren't helping.
@zande2016 Your boss sounds like a jerk! That is ridiculous that you can't use a company computer to work from home! Does everyone that works from home have to use their own computer to do so? It sounds like she wants you to fail. I hope everything works out and you are able to get some work done. I used to work for a company that touted working from home as one of their benefits, but none of the managers wanted to let anyone do it. It was so frustrating!! Like, I'm an adult and I don't need someone standing over me and staring at me for me to my work done.
@CareBear622 yes, a jerk would be an accurate description! She's always let me (and others) take an office laptop in the past and never had an issue with it. The whole reason she bought them was so people could take them as needed. It just makes zero sense and really made me feel like she was singling me out. I feel like ever since I refused to come back to work 6 weeks after my son was born, she's had a vendetta against me. And seriously, being treated like a child when you're an adult professional is the worst!
My mind's racing a million miles per hour about the future. I feel like we need to move to a bigger house. Our home has 3 bedrooms and 3 growing boys. It works fine now because they're still little and like to sleep together (9, 6, and 3) but throwing a new baby into the mix which requires it's own room has me all freaked out. I suddenly feel like we need to move to the country and buy a farm. GIVE ME SPACE!
@4deep us too!! I'm sitting here racking my brain wondering how to fit more baby gear into our 2br apt. I plan on keeping the LO in our room as long as possible and having it share a room with DS when he/she is sleeping well. That is if we don't buy a house before then. Between our 100 lab, two cats, macaw and his 6' cage, DS's toys, and my plants, our apts going to be a madhouse!
@katm89@christycalifornia Got a positive at the doctor!! I’m going for blood work now and November 29th I have my first appointment with the OB and I’ll see the little one for the first time!! The NP prescribed progestrone to help out.
@Carebear622 like @kfrob said their orange chicken is not to be missed. They have a frozen Mac and cheese that is stupid good. Any of their pre-marinated meats are really crest and not too pricy, chicken and pork loin especially. GET JO JO’s! They’re better than any Oreo ever! All their frozen pizzas are great, and good to stock up on things that normally take a long time to cook, like frozen cooked brown rice, quinoa, and steel cut oats. Their curry sauces in jars are awesome and make a quick meal. And check out their frozen appetizers for something quick to pop in he oven in a pinch. Really, the only things that are consistently a kiss for me there is their produce. It’s not bad, but it’s all pre-bagged and the quality can be iffy. Good bananas though.
@wildtot cool! I grew up inland empire, moved to NorCal in 6th grade and settled in the Bay Area as an adult. I’m in Boulder County now, near Gunbarrel. My sister’s still down in Burbank, and I miss it a lot. The end of the month will make a year here, and it’s still an adjustment. Small world!
@4deep@acunamatada Breathe, ladies! This is all crazy and nuts and sudden, but you’ve got time to make decisions. Nothing has to be decided today. Take time to breathe. Just a friendly reminder.
@gspmom21 THATS AMAZING!!!! Such good news!!! I’m so beyond happy for you, I know that’s been a worry. Hooray!!!! Celebrating with you over the internet!!!
I’m feeling so grateful right now. My neighborhood friend is amazing. She has a 6yo and twins my daughter’s age. They get home from school at noon. I’m sick as a dog still, this cold is just not letting go, so she’s going to drop her kids off, come pick mine up, feed her lunch, and keep her until my husband comes home. On a snow day. Because The Bean’s been a sweetheart, but cooped up with sick me for two days straight. We left a huge community of friends in California, and I was really hesitant about starting over in a new place, and if we’d have the same support here we had back home. It’s nice to know I’m starting to build friendships with good people.
@christycalifornia thank you!!! I’m very hopeful about this pregnancy. Now onto waiting for your news and US! I also need to catch up on discussions for today, I feel like I’m way behind lol
@christycalifornia so many animals! We almost took in another stray a few days before I got my BFP.. We need to stop... Also, I've never been to Trader Joe's but I think I NEED to now. We've got one 20 minutes away. I've got an Aldis opening up across from the stop and shop I usually go to, can't wait for that too!

ps I see your new screen name.
I grew up in LA and Rialto till college when I moved to Orange County. I miss something but it’s too crowded for my taste. My parents are still in IE and my MIL is in Burbank. Small world! Would be nice to eventually meet up. I don’t know many people especially parents outside of work.

Going to the ikea in Pitt is my favorite thing to do! I wish there was one closer to me. Makes for a fun day trip though
ETA Trader Joe’s recommendations! We also love the orange chicken! So easy, so good! Their chicken fried rice is yummy too to pair with the chicken. We also like their chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches, fudge dipped peppermint jojos, coconut strips (idk if that’s what they’re called but they’re in the dried fruit section). Pretty much any of the junk food lol. I also got a cream shave lotion there recently that’s awesome!
@wildtot it would be fun to meet up with some local mamas after we all get to know each other a bit better! I’m in the same boat, friend-wise. It’s so hard to make friends as an adult! We recently joined a really cool church after a lot of looking, so that’s helping, but still, you can’t replace a lifetime of friendships in a year.
@hillbillywife ooh, Jo Jo's ice cream! I'd forgotten that one but your dipped Jo Jos reminded me. And those chocolate chip dippers?? SO GOOD with coffee!!
And we're having Orange Chicken for dinner tonight!
@hillbillywife The Ikea in Pittsburgh is literally my favorite place on earth! We only go like once every couple of years and I just want to spend all day walking around and looking at everything. We even have a babysitter for when we go on Sunday so it will be extra magical I looked though and there isn't a Trader Joe's near there I thought for sure there would be! I saw that there's one in East Liberty though, which isn't that bad to get to, so maybe we'll get to go there another day.
I’m at court today testifying for my best friends order for protection hearing against her soon to be ex husband. It’s just killing me just hoping and praying it goes through and she comes out stronger than ever before but we could use your good thoughts vibes and prayers !
Re: Weekly Randoms 11/6-11/10
Cant wait to see you’re ultrasound later this week, @christycalifornia!
What’s Trader Joe’s? I hear a lot about it, but we don’t have one anywhere close.

Jack gained his wings on 09/02/2016.
Kali gained her wings on 07/28/2015.
They will be forever missed.
