December FET

Hi lovely ladies! I didn't see a Dec FET thread started yet, so I thought I would get on the ball! I had a FET on October 11th which resulted in a beta of 12, essentially a CP. I'm moving forward with a tentative December FET with our second and last frozen embie. I'm currently finishing AF this cycle and will have my endometrial activation on 11/17. As long as AF arrives again before end of November, we will be set for December transfer. If it comes later, we will have to be pushed until the new year as my RE clinic is closed the week of Christmas and New Years for any ER or FET. Anyone else out there planning for december??
Me and DH: 30 Married for 7 years

August 2017: IVF #1 (11 eggs retrieved, 8 mature, 3 fertilized with ICIS, 2 Frozen)

Re: December FET

  • I’ll be doing ERA cycle in December. Which means all meds but no embryo to transfer at the end.

    What is endometrial activation?

  • @AlohaKumu exciting! It will be here before we know it. I’m ready to do this next one and hopeful as well!

@prudence9-2 My RE described it as basically going in and “scratching” the endometrium. It will sort of scar over and she said there are new studies that show this may increase the chance of the embryo getting something to sort of grab hold of and sticking. I had it done with my ER in September in prep for my October FET, although I was asleep. This one I won’t be of course, which makes me a little nervous to be aware that it’s getting scratched lol. She said I should be fine by taking a few ibuprofen before hand.

  • JamieH2000 No testing after my last cycle. Honestly, we're pretty confident that endometriosis is my only issue so just chalk it up to being in the percentage of cycles that just didn't work since nothing is 100%. But feeling confident that we'll get there eventually! Fingers crossed that your FET will be able to happen next month as well, that's so great that you have 12 frozen!!

  • @latvaughanash- ok gotcha. I only ask, because I have never had poylps before (and my last saline was only 10 months ago), and they didn't show up on any of my scans until my saline sono. I just had two friends that had polyps found after a failed transfers (with 2 embryos) and that likely caused the failed transfer. Perhaps you have had a more recent saline and are fine, but my understanding is that all the meds from a transfer can cause them. Not to push advice or anything, just an idea to maybe check this month (if you haven't recently) since you have time until december. I was not happy about the delay, but sooo happy we found the polyp before we decided to transfer and would have likely gotten a BFN.

  • Hi
This is my very first time on these boards, but hope I will be welcome on this thread. I am having my first FET in the beginning of Dec. I don't have an exact date yet.  I had my ER back in early Sept and am getting restless with the delays for my FET.  I have one good quality PGS tested normal embryo on ice right now so I am excited but also very nervous.  I just did a mock cycle with ERA since we want to be as prepared as possible.
Best of luck to everyone for Dec!

  • @tnh0413 & @prudence9-2 & @bethann1022 - While unfortunate for all of us, I'm happy to see some familiar faces ... and hoping for better luck in December :)

@AlohaKumu & @JamieH2000 & @latvaughanash & @DecemberDoll27 & @suziev3 - Welcome! I am glad we got this thread started and look forward to hearing about your journeys. FX for all of you!!

AFM, attempting FET#5 (with embies #6 & #7) on approx 12/7. Have a scheduled call with our RE on Tues, the 7th, to get a consensus on the best guess as to why FET#2-4 did not take, given my only issue is being anovulatory (hence IVF) and -*TW*- having success with FET#1 in Oct 2015 with an uneventful, normal pregnancy -*TW End*-. All bloodwork came back normal and the lining was perfectly in the middle of "normal," hence our frustration at the moment. (Also, since all of our blastocysts were initially frozen - fear of OHSS - and such a high number, we didn't do any PGS ... and given that they are frozen, we feel the risk to do the PGS now is greater than the benefits).

  • @latvaughanash- - I hadn't thought about getting checked before my cycle, and I would have just transferred if they hadn't seen the fluid (in the extra screening I insisted upon), so after this, I just feel like its best to be extra cautious in screening, especially if these are your last two precious embabies!

@decemberdoll27- Good to see you here, and I think you kick off the month! I think your name is going to bring good luck to our board ;)

@suziev3- welcome!! I bet you are ready to get transferring! I assume your ERA came back all good then?

@mamak225- what a long hard road! I really really hope this is your month! I was on a board earlier this year with a girl who had twins and was on her 5th FET for #2, and it finally worked! I would be frustrated in your case too.. maybe throw the kitchen sink at it with an endo scratch too? I assume you have recently had a saline or hysterscopy to check for polyps/fibroids (see my post above).

AFM- just waiting for AF to get here. Then i start BC right away, until my hysterscopy on 11/14. I am worried that I will only be on the pill for maybe 10 days. and then I am supposed to stop and get at least a light bleed.  I just had a friend try something like this and now she is in limbo hell since her period didn't come after only being on the pill for 10 days. Has anyone else been able to get a light period after only half the normal BC days?

  • @JamieH2000 - I'm going to speak to him about the endo scratch and see if that's something he'd be interested in doing, he does tend to be very interested/willing to do things that are "new" and "gaining evidence" of helping increase success. I had a hysteroscopy in the end of June before FET#2 (we did ours in July, Aug, Oct) - which was 2 years after I had the last one. As far as the 10-day BCP, I don't think that's a huge deal. Being that I've been through the FET several times (anywhere from 14-21 days) this year, it's fresh in my mind and I can tell you that I have only had light periods twice (out of 4) ... and it really doesn't have an impact either way: 3 of my pre-transfer linings were very close at 10.2-10.3 (the last one was 11.5). My nurse said it is kind of a 50/50 shot about whether you get a period or not, and it very rarely impacts the lining if you're on a medicated FET.
  •
  • @decemberdollz27, @alohakumu, @mamak225- Thanks so much ladies!! You have really helped me lower my stress about this. As we are all up against the christmas deadline, I was just getting anxious my body would mess something up again after already so many delays. @mamak225- that is so interesting!! I am actually not doing a medicated FET, but rather a stimulated FET (so like a fresh IVF cycle, but lower stims and no ER), since my lining was so much better on my fresh IVF cycle than on my last medicated FET attempt. Hopefully I would still start the stimulated FET as long as the lining is thinish and my follicles are ready to go. I was worried, since I am DOR and don't get a ton of follicles, but she said even having 1 good usually gets the lining plenty thick.

  • @JamieH2000 - that's so interesting! I've only ever spoken with those who've done medicated FETs. Unfortunately, my anovulatory-ness is due to my whacked out androgens, so medicated is my only choice ... unless I want daily monitoring, etc (which - I'm sure - comes with a hefty price tag!). Just read your bio - that's so awesome that you have so many embies on ice. I wish you the best of luck!!

  • @Mamak225 I'm hoping for some Christmas miracles!! Do they have any idea why the other transfers failed? Like Endometrial receptivity or something like that?

  •
  • @dragonette505 - It's kind of a black hole, but we did decide to do the test on the endometrium (since it's been 2 years after the initial transfer and the resulting pregnancy) to see if there have been any changes in how I metabolize hormones, etc ... so it looks like the transfer will be moved to the first week in January, when the lab re-opens. • @MamaK225 I'm guessing then if you were able to get pregnant from a transfer they figure its something else? It truly is so hard to know sometimes... I may end up being early Jan as well so we might be going around the same time!

  • Got my ERA results back and it was pre-receptive.  So I am definitely glad I did it. Doctor wasn't at the office when I called him so he couldn't recall if it was 12 or 24hrs off.   All the meds take longer for me than the average person for some reason so I wasn't really surprised.  The transfer is still on for probably the first week of Dec.  This is my only embryo from my first IVF and my first FET and I'm very nervous about getting the timing right.  He did not suggest we do a second ERA, but I know that is a thing.  I am past ready to get this FET going but now I am worried I should ask about a second ERA.  Anyone have experience with this? Thoughts?

  • Hi Everyone!  I thought I would join you all on the December thread.

We have 2 PGS normal embabies in the bank and I just started stims for IVF#3.   We are going to send the blasts from IVF#3 out for PGS and do a FET with one of previously tested embryos 5 days after the Egg retrieval.  So probably sometime in the last week of November and I’ll have my beta well into December J.   This is our first transfer in over a year (last FET October 2016), and this is the first time we will be transferring a PGS tested embryo!

Hopefully they will have instructions for me after the procedure tomorrow, or I will have to email my nurse to confirm. It sounds like if I don't get a bleed within a week, I will come in for a baseline to see whats going on. I think as long as the lining is thin-ish and follicles weren't too large yet, they would let me start stimming. we will see!

I've brought it up before and was dismissed so if it turns out with that result, I'm going to be pretty pissed - but AT LEAST - we should then have a chance of success after THREE damn failures in a row (not to mention the thousands of out-of-pocket dollars and "lost" embies). Just trying to stay positive. Did they say if you were pre-receptive that you should still be able to do an FET on that cycle ... or do you start over and just transfer later, in a subsequent cycle?
