@Tennis11785@anewadventure or we could be extra creepy and tag them all here so we get their attention! Haha I would but I'm on mobile and mobile bumping is hard
I was invited to an acquaintance's baby shower and cannot attend. I would happily send a $10 gift in my absence, but the couple is only registered at Babies R Us and there's a $6 shipping charge on anything under $29. It's hugely inconvenient to do an in-store pick up. So, should I just skip the gift or send something from off-registry via Amazon or what? I'm annoyed that this is a hassle. The hostess is a friend of mine, but the expecting couple are not people I see more than once a year.
@Amber_Waves Could you send a gift card from Babies R Us without having to go there/pay shipping? Or is it weird to send a gift card for $10? I don't know, that was my first thought.
If something around $10 on their registry is also on Amazon, you could just do that, and then they can return the duplicate to BRU. But also maybe that's frowned upon. I've never been to a baby shower and I've been to one bridal shower that wasn't my own, so I'm not too up on the etiquette (but I've also registered for some things at both Target and Amazon and if I get a duplicate I'll return it to Target for a gift card, so that's where the idea is coming from in my case).
MJDsquared A gift card is a good idea. I'm pretty sure they have Toys R Us / Babies R Us ones at the grocery store. If not, I'm sure a Target or Amazon one would be fine! I'll probably get one for $15 or so. Thanks!
@Amber_Waves Had another thought where you wouldn't be forcing them to return something. If it's possible to mark something as purchased from their registry without providing proof of purchase at BRU, you could do the Amazon thing that way.

I'd send a board book or two from Amazon

Can I just bitch for a moment about the fact that most of the models on the Motherhood Maternity site are thin as rails?
I could maybe understand if it was for a big store like Macy's or Target where they might be worried about being sensitive to the shoppers' delicate sensibilities, but this is a maternity site. Women are shopping here because they're pregnant. Show me how the shorts will sit on my bump, or how the bras will support my heavy, swollen breasts. Nothing graphic, but also not.... this.
I suppose this could be hormone-related and maybe I'm completely overreacting. I just find these pictures so unhelpful and frustrating.
Good news! @vvitchhazel is doing well, she just can't get into the bump app! I randomly "ran into" her on Facebook and I messaged her like a true creeper

@Amber_Waves if you do a gift card, it's supposed to be an e-gift card/paper that they take to the store. It shouldn't charge you for shipping.
As far as the threads go, I don't like coming off as a WK, and I agree that there needs to be SOME sort of organization (i.e. We don't need a thread about cribs, one about PNP, rnp, etc), but!!! I don't think every Rando that starts a thread needs to be told to go intro themselves. That's just me though.
My kid is so out of control today. We made slime, we made banana muffins, we colored, we went on a bike ride... She's bouncing off the damn walls still. I need a glass of wine and bed.
Others might know this, but it was news to me over the weekend. But Amazon lets you add items to it's registry from other websites. So it will show up in your list and then direct you to the proper website and will let you mark it as "purchased". It's great for those few items that might not appear on Amazon. It only works from the desktop and you have to download the "universal registry button" plug-in.

Speaking of Amazon, I purchased a maternity dress to wear to my sister's rehearsal dinner in a few weeks. Tried it on and it's probably the best piece of maternity clothes I've purchased so far. It was super flattering and roomy in the tummy.
peachy13 I was literally looking on Amazon this morning for a dress for a wedding this weekend! How is the length on this? I'm 5'11' so short dresses can be a bit of a struggle.
@flowerpower5838 sorry not sure about length but i'm only 5'0'' and the dress was a nice above-knee /not too short length for me, so it would probably be really short on you!

So... DH just texted me to remind me of some late night shenanigans (totally work-safe, g-rated, I swear!). I had a dream last night that LO was out, and probably about a year old, and we were taking him to the zoo for the first time and I got all overwhelmed and apparently woke up DH half-crying and babbling about the gorillas. I have no recollection of this beyond dreaming about the zoo. I don't even remember the gorillas! But apparently sleep-talkin' me was all about the great apes.
@peachy13 That is super cute, definitely just bought one for days I have to go into the office! It will look cute paired up with a jean jacket this fall too.
Best part about break and bake cookies: you can make as many or as little as you want.... DH asked for 2 cookies, then proceeded to ask why there were 7 on the cookie sheet. Stupid question, DH. I wanted 5. He also tried to steal one of my cookies. He nearly lost a finger.
Very random question for anyone who changed their name and had to get a new passport. It says you have to mail your current passport as well as your original marriage license (no scans or notarized copies, etc). I've heard that you can get your old passport mailed back when you renew (because who wants to lose all their stamps?)... They'll mail back my marriage license, right? Lol. I just feel like a copy should be sufficient, but oh well.
@MJDSquared When I got my new passport, I sent them the original of my marriage license. It's the same when you have to send in your original birth certificate for your first passport. Before I sent my marriage license in I made a few copies, and even scanned it to myself so that I would always have a copy. They did send it back though, and I haven't heard any tales from friends of them not receiving their paperwork back.

@MJDsquared When we got married I ordered extra copies of our marriage certificate. They're each "originals" as in came from the County Recorder's Office, have the embossed seal, blahblahblah. One of them went with my passport for processing (and yes, we got it back along with my old passport), but we also had other "original" copies. It was $15 ea at the time, so an extra $30 or so for peace of mind & flexibility wasn't an issue.
Depending on your local/state authority, you may be able to request an additional "original" copy for your peace of mind. Even if it takes a few weeks to get to you, you'll at least have something in case you don't get it back from passport processing. (But everyone I know that's sent in vital records has gotten them returned with their new passport.)
@MJDsquared - It's been a while, but I believe we were able to get an "offical" copy - so it was considered an original and had the raised stamp, but it was not the physical piece of paper we signed. That worked because it was an official copy not a Xerox copy.

@kyrwyn@Tennis11785 Okay, that's good to know! I think our original original is actually with FIL (for some reason he took it the day of the wedding and didn't give it to us before going home? no clue why...and he's probably lost it) so I did have to get a new copy for something before at the county office. I hope I can find that copy I got, otherwise I'll have to order more (when I got it before I just went in person, but that's not an option since we've moved).
@MJDsquared you'll get the old one back, along with marriage certificate (but it may be sent back separately). I just double checked that I got everything back. My original has ONE stamp in it from our honeymoon to Cabo, so I couldn't part with it lol.
@mjdsquared - We called the courthouse and was able to pay via credit card, so we ordered like 5 official copies. That way we had copies if we needed. The original original lives in a safety box, I actually carried a copy for a while in my wallet (mostly in case I ever needed to prove last name stuff), and then we had copies for whatever other reason we needed it.

I hate to bring politics into this nice happy place, but watching the news is making me so sad for my kids. It's making me sick to my stomach to realize I'm bringing kids into this world that still thinks it's ok to be racist.
@tamaraaaa I'm with you. And the latest remarks from a certain orange-haired man are pretty disheartening. I mean, he called white supremacists "fine people." And also called counter-protesters the "alt-left." What?!
