IVF with donor eggs

Re: IVF with donor eggs

  • PNW12RN - I am the youngest of three sisters, so I did not consider using either sister as a donor as they 39 and 42 y.o.  However, if I had a younger sister (or cousin, etc.) I would have definitely explored that option.  It's so great that you are able to do that!  Keep us posted and let us know how it goes!

  • @JamieH2000 Hoping for a good update tomorrow from your monitoring appointment!  My lining was on the thin side last week so I'm hoping that when I go in on Tuesday that I'm on track.
@laurad75 Sounds like your donor may have an awesome retrieval.  Fingers crossed!  Retrieval Monday or Tuesday?
@PNW12RN I remember you from boards in the past!  I am also using an anonymous donor.  Good luck with your frozen embie.  When are you planning on transferring?
AFM...waiting on PGS results. Hopefully they will be in mid to the end of the week.  Transfer still on track for 12/5 as long as my lining cooperates at my monitoring appointment on Tuesday.  Fingers and toes crossed!

  • radmom27 - Waiting for PGS results is tough, right?  For some reason waiting for my OE PGS results was the hardest wait for me of this process, harder than waiting for betas, etc. Not sure why. Obviously you know you have good results coming your way, so maybe the wait hasn't been as bad for you (?)  Anyways, can't wait to hear your good news.
    radmom27
  • @ChiTown16 Waiting is so hard!!!  Every step in this process is like torture.  I keep trying not to think ahead and am just taking it day by day.  Sometimes I do really well with that and sometimes I fail :)  I'm also terrified that I will transfer PGS normals and have that fail.  Sigh. One step at a time.

  • ER is tomorrow and while she had 26 follies at last count I don’t assume they will all be mature. Also one was super big at her last appt so it might be over mature. It will still be a great number and hopefully our fertilization report will be good too. I’m super nervous about starting PIO tomorrow.

  • My donor is still in the medical evaluation process, but we are aiming for a mid-January retrieval and transfer.  It may get pushed back to February but I am doing everything in my power to make January happen!  So it's really not that far off since meds would start in December.

  • @radmom27 We are planning a transfer for mid/late January (aiming for 22nd-27th).  My RE does a long 6 week schedule including a few weeks of BCP, lupron, etc, so I'll be starting meds on December 10th.  Getting so close!

  • @laurad75- Good luck today!! So excited for you! Can't wait to hear how many :) Its going to be great!

@radmom27- o wow, intermuscular estrogen? Did they add that to try to get it thicker? I started with patches (which did like nothing i feel like) and then added vaginal estrace and oral estrace when my lining wasn't thickening enough. I really hope its looking great tomorrow!

@chitown16- Yes, Jan is definitely not that far! So glad you are getting started! Were you able to find a new donor you liked that was proven?

@pnw12rn- Wow, starting meds in 2 weeks already!! YAYYY!!!

AFM- Had monitoring this morning and had 3 follies at 12,12, 10mm. Lining was almost 7 and trilinear. I feel like the follies are growing slow since I was so suppressed before this, but I think its ok since hopefully it will give the lining more time to thicken up. I feel like things are going alright... but starting to get anxious since we still need to get the lining there, get a mature follie to trigger, and then check that my progesterone rises after trigger. Feels like alot of steps where something can still go wrong :( I think I'm just a little traumatized after being cancelled 4 days before my transfer last month...

  • @Chitown16 For me, once meds started, the whole process has gone really quickly.  January will be here before you know it.
@PNW12RN I think I was on a similar protocol.  I started Lupron back in October and am still on it.  (Hopefully this is my last couple of days). Once you start meds, the time truly flies.
@JamieH2000 I think my new RE just likes the IM estrogen.  I've been giving it to myself in my leg which hasnt been terrible.  Just hoping it's working!! I think the trilinear lining is an even better sign than the thickness.  Mine was 7 last week too but not trilaminar but they hoped that this week it would thicken.  Since you still have to trigger, hopefully you have plenty of time.  Each step in this process is excrutiating!!

  • Awesome laurad75!  Your donor is a total rockstar!  How exciting.  Can't wait to hear more updates from you.

JamieH2000 - Yes, I was able to find a 5-time donor I liked who had great past cycles and is local.  DH and I have a good feeling about her.
  • @radmom27 for my (unsuccessful) FET, I did IM estrogen instead of the patches--they let me choose either of them and I went with shots because it was about $1k cheaper.  My uterus responded beautifully and I plan to use the same meds this time around

  • @laurad75- Yay for 19!! that is GREAT! I had 18 fertilize and ended up with 12 blasts, so i think you are going to have a lot! I'm hoping to know more timing after my monitoring tomorrow... ideally trigger Thurs or Friday and then transfer 7 days later. So hopefully I will be within a week of you!

@radmom27- aww fluid?! What the heck?!! I really hope you can still transfer. I will say that last cycle they found fluid in my uterus and we cancelled... but it was good in the end since we ended up finding a few polyps, which were likely causing the fluid and the transfer would have failed. When was your last saline sono? Mine was last Dec and was all clear, with no history of polyps.. yet somehow I still got them :(

  • @JamieH2000 My last saline sono was almost a year ago.  Having fluid while I'm on estrogen seems like it's just the way I roll.  I always have it at this point in my cycle but it resolves by the time of transfer.

Today has been a total rollercoaster of a day.  My RE decided to delay my transfer because of the small amount of fluid they saw on my ultrasound yesterday.  After going back and forth with his nurses and other staff, I talked to him and we decided that I'm going to go in tomorrow and have the fluid aspirated and then start progesterone to keep on track for transfer next Tuesday with ultrasounds every other day to monitor my lining and make sure that the fluid is resolved.  I still feel like this is all so uncertain and it makes me nervous.  I did get some good news today though...11 of my 15 embryos I sent for PGS testing came back normal!!!

  • radmom27  - Ugh, sorry for the uncertainty but at least it sounds like you and your RE have a good plan.  Fingers crossed for you.  And holy cow, such good news about your PGS results!  That's fantastic.  What a difference twenty something year old eggs make compared to the BS that we're all used to, right?

  • @radmom27 So sorry about the delay.  It can be so frustrating when they keep moving the goal post but it sounds like its a good call.  That is wonderful news about your tested embryos.  Your still on track!

  • @ChiTown16 Thank goodness for younger eggs!!
@JamieH2000 It looks like we will all be transfer buddies!!  I'm glad things are going well and that you're on track.
AFM, I drove to my clinic (2.5 hours each way) to find out that the fluid had completely resolved.  There was not even one ounce of me that was upset about making the drive though...I'm just thankful that we're back on track.  I made the mistake of giving my progesterone IM shot to myself in my leg this AM (it was easier to see) and boy oh boy does it hurt!!  Looks like I'm going back to the behind tomorrow.  My RE was telling me how hopeful he was that I would be pregnant for Xmas and I broke into tears.  I'm trying not to get my hopes up but the thought of this possibly working is so exciting. Fingers crossed for smooth transfers for all of us this next week!!

  • Ladies- I’m freaking out and need your advice. My clinic just emailed that my Donor has recently been diagnosed with anxiety and ADD. Not worried about the anxiety, but for what I have been reading, ADD is very genetic. Also my DH has not been diagnosed with ADD but I’ve often wondered if he has it a little since he is easily distracted and forgetful... so now I’m freaking out that our child will definitely have it. I mean I don’t think is much I can do at this point but I seriously just can’t believe there is more bad news on this journey. Like haven’t I been through enough? Sorry for the rant, just having a really hard night :(

  • @radmom27 That's awesome news!  Sorry you had to make that crazy drive but it sounds like it was worth it.

@JamieH2000 I just saw this on the FB DE page and I have some thoughts:
    1. You need to go for it and do the transfer.  These are your embryos now and they will be perfect.  So many children are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD now that there are lots of resources to manage it and if your donor is ADD and has anxiety issues it wasn't diagnosed until later in life so obviously it wasn't a debilitating problem.  I think you need to do your best to put this behind you and move forward without any concern after you give hell to the agency or clinic who screened your donors.

    2. WTF is up with your clinic or agency and their crappy donor screening?  How did donor #1 get through and then not follow protocol and then screen a donor who was almost immediately diagnosed with ADD and anxiety?  Did she not have ANY symptoms of these when she was being screened?  If I were you I would organize my thoughts and then get some answers to how this slipped through the cracks.  Not because you don't want your beautiful embryos but because it is causing you stress and anxiety before your transfer.

Yes, I am so excited for tomorrow.  I am eagerly waiting for my call from the clinic with my transfer time and all my instructions.  Hopefully they will give me an update then on how the embryos are doing.  I'm sure our number dwindled down but 19 fertilized was a little overwhelming anyway.

It's December and its time to get this party started!

  • @laurad75- Thanks for your response. It really does help.  And I agree, I'm hoping that her being diagnosed later in life means its not really a huge issue for her. I know my clinic does screen psycologically, but it must focus mostly on how they feel about being donors (i.e. other people have their genetic children). I am guessing they are not really screening for other disorders, but you would think if she truly had bad anxiety or ADD they could pick up on that? I have spoken with both psycologists they use and they both seemed great... but I am confused on how this was diagnosed 4 weeks after our ER. She was at another clinic/agency before mine (as I was her 4th ER) and it never came up then either, so I'm just hoping its truly not too bad of an issue for her (or genetically).  I think part of my bad night was my DH wasn't really supportive. He didn't think it was an issue at all.. and i realize its not the most serious diagnosis, but of course I am concerned with anything that may mean my child has a higher risk of something. That, and combined with night 10 of stims, 5 doc appts (and getting up super early) in the last 10 days.. I am just super stressed and emotional right now and so sick of bad news.... hopefully we are close to the happy ending on this...

My tech this morning didn't give a ton of info, but when I asked about lining she said one measurement was over 9.. so I assume not all were, but hopefully they were at least 8. I will know more later, but hopefully bloodwork and follicle size show its time to trigger. I will keep you posted

  • @JamieH2000 I understand.  When your partner doesn't feel things as heavily as you do it can make you feel like your feelings aren't validated and that can be really hard.

I hope you get some good news with the results later today.

  • @JamieH2000 What crappy news to get right before transfer...I agree with everything that laurad75 said.  Absolutely do the transfer and don't look back.  If she's being diagnosed at this age, then I doubt its a terribly severe form of the disease and would even question the validity of the diagnosis.  I totally understand being upset and worried about it, especially in light of what you have been through to get to this point.  I hope you're on track for triggering.

  • JamieH2000  - I agree 100% with the other girls.  Don't let the surprise diagnosis stress you out more than it already has. Just my opinion, but sometimes I think doctors are too quick to diagnose people with ADD, etc. anyways; it seems like the bar is pretty low these days.  If your donor has made it this far in life, the odds are she's just fine.

  • @chitown16- I tend to agree, and hope that is the case in my situation... Trying  not to stress about it too much anymore. Everyone's stories and feedback on here has been super helpful. You are just waiting to get started with your cycle right? Is legal all complete and meds ordered etc? I am so excited for this month and January for our group here!!

@laurad75- TRANSFER DAY IS HERE!! Hard to believe its been 2 months since we had our last DE transfer, so its time for some more good news. I am so excited for you and hope there is a top grade embabie to transfer and lots more to freeze!
