Let's talk maternity clothes...

Re: Let's talk maternity clothes...

  • @grochril I know I'm a little late here..... I have bought stuff in the past and have had no issues. I bought two pairs of maternity Capri pants. One was perfect, the other was AWFUL!! The size was fitted waaaaaay too small and the fabric was horrible and not what was expected. So overall, I think most things are ok but be sure to pay attention to descriptions and if there are any reviews available. Hope that helps a little...

  • I just bought 2 pairs of maternity pants.  They should be here next week and I can't effing wait. Ugh, my pants are soooooo uncomfortable now. As are all of my tops - my boobs are ridiculously huge and it's just the biggest thing about me right now. I can't wait to be showing showing so I can just let it all hang out.  I'm planning to cruise H&M momma later, as well as zulily for some tanks and tshirts.
10 weeks, pregnant with twins. I thought this would take a little longer, but oh well.
  • @breezybee ooh where did you get your pants? I just bought some loose non-maternity dresses that will hopefully take me through most of summer but will definitely have to get some pants soon - especially shorts!

@blueskies17 Ok, disclaimer - I spend way too much money on clothes, and I like what I like, ok?  I'll be wearing these for the next 6 months and they'll still be cute for the next time I get knocked up.  I'll spend a lot on staples like pants, shoes, and purses, but not much on tshirts, etc.
I got them at Bloomingdales. They're Paige denim. One pair of blue jeans and one pair of black. I can't wait.

Eta - I am planning to hit up old navy for some maternity shorts. They've always got good shorts!
  • @breezybee you and I speak the same language. I am all about investing in staples and spending less on "trendier" stuff. I love Paige. I heard that 7 for mankind had good maternity jeans but don't normally like how they fit me- will have to check out the Paige maternity jeans!
  • @blueskies17 Yeah, 7's never fit me right - I feel like the pockets are too big. But Paige's are always a hit. Bloomies is having a sale right now, so I saved like $60
  • @breezybee just ordered a pair of dark denim paige skinnies..!
  • @blueskies17 Yaaaaas qweeeen!
  • Just went to Ross and got my first maternity item! A pair of blue jean shorts from Haute Mama for only $10! So far they are the only brand that fits me- any other little mamas out there find brands that come in small sizes? I'm usually a double zero- so finding maternity clothes is difficult because most are far too big. I know I'll continue to grow- but the butts are soooo saggy for me.
  • @balletnerd I've had really good luck at H&M. I'm usually a 0, but wear a 4 or 6 there in maternity bottoms. Tops fit true to size I've found, btw.
  • @Jellybelly119 Thanks! I will have to try H&M!
  • pinkblush is my favorite! Online only, but usually they have free shipping and discounts.
  • I ordered about 8 things from pinkblush and finally just convinced myself to try them on. Not sure what I was thinking, like I would magically turn into this cute preggo belly person by putting the clothes on. Nope. I need to revisit my strategy. I ordered nice weekend type clothes, like I'd wear out to a nice dinner with DH. I need to return all of that, buy work clothes (business casual) and weekend comfy / lazy clothes. I'm feeling discouraged about the whole thing at this point. Dang hormones, jacking me up.

  • @balletnerd I have the same problem, usual size 2. I went to H&M over the weekend and while only about 5% of what they had in store was below a large, the size 4 jeans fit very very snuggly (next size up they had was a 10). I'll be ordering a size 6. They didn't sag in the butt or crotch area, which I usually have a problem with both!
  • I lost 50 pounds over the last 2 years so I've been wearing my bigger dresses or maxi dresses.  So comfy.  I also have mostly lived in my lularoe pants and irmas.  When a friend of mine was having a clearance sale, I bought the next size up irma to grow into.  I'm wondering if my leggings will stay stretched out after the baby but, for the comfort, it's a chance I'm willing to take.

  • @tmk0325  What?!  That's so exciting, I had no idea! I like a lot of LC's stuff and can't wait to see her maternity line!  What a time to be pregnant  ;)
  • Why are all the dresses at the mall with the silly shoulder cut out?  I know that's the 'thing' right now but I couldn't find a single dress without it.  I have no shoulders so that's not working for me.  Just give me a pretty maxi dress please?  Shouldn't be hard.   Grumble.

  • @andipandicWed121369 I thought I was the only person who hates cold shoulder dresses/tops! They are so terrible!

ASOS.com has some really great maternity pieces as well as nursing stuff. Also Topshop!
  • I went to old navy yesterday where they have comfy, flowy cotton dresses for $15 and then found a 20% off coupon on my phone.  So, I got 3 dresses that I can grow in all summer for $38.  Highly suggest.  :)

@andipandicWed121369 I also went to Old Navy and got some of those dresses... Both the tank style and short sleeve, they are so comfy!!

  • @moonlady-2 - same boat over here! 13 weeks today and no sign a bump whatsoever. I'm dying for my pants to feel just a little snug!

@KLake42 - I love a bump in overalls, they are on my shopping list! If you find a good pair - please share!!
  • @barrbaby-2 and @moonlady-2 I feel you on the lack of bump! All my jeans are currently too big, I never thought I'd have  this complaint.

I already had some extra 'padding' before getting pregnant and wore a lot of clothes that were loose/flowy etc. so I dont feel like I 'look' much different... but I am traveling over seas in 3 weeks so I stopped by Target to grab some maternity shorts.... omg they are amazing, and I have a feeling I might never let them go.... They are a great length and so comfortable in the midsection... wow.

  • @dkizz82 I'm like you! My last pregnancy I seriously bought only a couple things to tie me over because I couldn't get myself to pay big bucks for mat clothes I'd only wear for such a short amount of time. I have a hard enough time trying to get myself to spend money on normal clothing!

Im definitely showing earlier with this baby than I did wig my first. I don't fit in any of my jeans except for my maternity pair. So I've been living in those and leggings.
  • I went on a bit of a shopping spree this past week and bought a bunchy of airy, comfortable dresses from H&M, Zara and Lou & Grey. None of them are maternity but all have enough give/roominess and should take me through summer (and future summers)! Luckily the dress code at my office is casual so I can just throw a cardigan or blazer on top of a comfy dress and look presentable. I'll worry about fall/winter later haha.
  • Went to Goodwill and bought some cheap dress pants, then went to Jo-Ann for half a yard of spandex. They're not quite done, but they're wearable for work! My cheap side won out in the end.

I've been living in a few pairs of Old Navy maternity yoga pants for the last week or more and it's so nice not to have anything pressing on the bump (plus my plus-size-mama chub).  Thankfully work doesn't care if I wear them with flowy tops; as long as they're long pants they technically meet the safety requirements. <3

Belatedly... I am with you all on the cold shoulder tops.

  • I wish I could sew @rebeckyjoy that's smart!

This time of year, you should watch your area garage sales. I've got some really good pieces from some of mine. Also, I might have mentioned this before but there are one or two maternity resale pages on facebook!

  • @whiska my first pair were side panel (Target?) and my DH said, "yepp, those are some mom shorts, can't even tell you have an ass"  :D

Getting dressed was a shitshow this morning. I've been living in summer dresses and today the temperature dipped so I wanted to wear pants. My belly was not tolerating the belly band today so I had 2 more outfit changes until I finally found a warm long dress. I need a good pair of maternity jeans, asap!

  • It's hitting summer here in AZ... 115-120 degrees in the rest of the 7 day forecast. Guess I'm living in bikinis and the pool! Haha. Nice thing is I don't need much cold weather maternity wear even in December. So the pair of shorts I bought should last my whole pregnancy.
  • @blueskies17 I really liked the fit of H&M's  maternity jeans, they're kinda pricy (for me at least) at $40 each, but worth it for something that looks like a part of your normal wardrobe. I did size up, normal size 2 and ordering a size 6, so I'd suggest trying them on in store if you have one near you. I had huge problems with the fit of other maternity jeans in the front pooch/below belly area with most other brands such as Target, Motherhood Maternity.
