@delujm0 I'm seriously considering cloth diapering. I have a bunch of OS I bought for my son around 14 months got busy and never really used. I've bought a few newborn girly ones used. I need to get them sanitized and washed. I'm hoping it will help with the EBF poops they leak everywhere. So tired of all the stains. I'd like to be able to pass on the clothes to other moms when done and then need to be in good condition.
Something I learned about the poop thing the first time around was that they don't need to poop as much as you think if the are 100% breastfed. Dd wouldn't go for weeks and I would be so worried, but with breastmilk they can just need everything in it. If they aren't acting uncomfortable then try not to worry. Formula can stop them up if they aren't used to it though and they will definitely tell you they are hurting!
I have heard this...but DD was EBF and for the first 4 months she pooped almost every time she ate. Like at least 6 times a day. And for the first 8 months she exploded out of at least one diaper a day too, bc her poop was essentially liquid until she was eating more solid foods. I have scrubbed so much poop out of onesies at this point, I should have just cloth diapered. Sigh.
My experience is similar to @delujm0, but I have also heard the same as @Kylieslip24. When DD was very small, if she went more than a few days without pooping, she would get grumpy, but tummy massage would make her poo in about 20 min. A little older, and prune juice and a nap would give her a massive blow out. If a baby really can't poo, it likely needs a diet change, either a formula switch, or mom should watch her diet.
Ds1 has always had digestive issues and we EBF for the first 6 months. He did go 10 days once and I was seriously about to call the doc when he pooped. But I was more referring to those first couple of days with the grunting, squirming nights and holding him upright to help it all go down.
Prepping the bathroom for after delivery. Should I just get one pack of depends? Anyone using THINX or something similar? I know it might be too heavy right away, but I'm hoping to make the switch from a menstrual cup.

i had a pack of the "active" depends just so I wouldn't destroy my actual underwear...but I didn't use them much last time. The mesh undies I stole from the hospital were a lot more comfortable (plus a thin pad obviously) and by the time I ran out of those my flow wasn't heavy enough to warrant depends. Hoping for the same this time though I some till have left over depends just in case.

For the first week or two, my bleeding was way too heavy for something like THINX. Once the really heavy flow stops, that would probably be a good option, but my MW consistently asked about flow and color for 6 weeks, and I think THINX might make that a little more difficult to determine. I personally bought nighttime pads for the day, and max absorbency depends for at night, as I don't want to risk a pad shifting while I sleep.
If you do end up with a c section, my experience is that I don't think you bleed as much. I think I just used normal pads and I don't remember is lasting as long. I did go into labor and full dilate before ending up with the emergency c section last time but I think they get a lot of the fluids out during the procedure

Anyone else getting a crazy amount of skin tags with this pregnancy? Never happened with #1 & #2. Then 9 years later with #3 I got a few on my neck. Dang this pregnancy they are showing up all over :-/. I freaking hate THEM!
When typically is the first newborn pediatrician appointment? That s assuming no complications.
4 days old for us, which was 2 days after discharge. Our first appt was with the physicians assistant who is also a LC and included included a weighted feed and some other tests. She also checked latch and showed me how to use my pump. We then went back at 2 weeks old to see the actual doctor. I think if you're not breastfeeding you still go at 4 days and see a PA for the other tests and a weigh in, etc.

I used to work at a Primary Care office, and we usually had to get newborns in within a week. If there were problems, we would try to get them in a day or two after discharge.

I did with my last pregnancy, but none with this one.

This sounds super helpful! I wish my office did that.
So I went to birthing class today thinking I just wanted a lil refresher... it's a good thing I went because there's a few things that have changed with my hospital's protocols that I wouldn't really have thought of! (So this isn't really a question but more of a PSA) 1. they now make sure, in the case of an uneventful vaginal birth, that the baby has skin to skin, has had a feeding, and mom has hand-expressed milk before taking the baby for vitamin K, eye drops, weight, etc. 2. They are now advocating for babies to be swaddled less and not be swaddled with arms in at all past 2 months. 3. They are advocating for cosleeping but with a co-sleeper crib NOT in the bed. (The teacher said the hospital is actually looking into purchasing these for the post-pardom rooms!)
I'm sure there was more but I'm being distracted by a bedtime call for Momma... but there was some things that have changed in 4 yrs!
What's with the less swaddling? Like right away for a few months down the line? Why? What is this nonsense!?!? I live for a swaddle.
We lived for the swaddle too! She talked about SIDS risk and how the majority of risk happens from 2-6 months. She said those that were swaddled all the time had a higher SIDS risk after 2 mo. I equated it to learning how to use those arms and legs to maneuver safely but I have no medical evidence to back it up and I didn't want to be "that mom" at the birthing class that kept asking questions...
Sorry if this has been discussed on here before, but I recently found out I'll be induced in 2 weeks. I wanted to ask those of you who have been induced about what to expect and your experience. I know everyone is different and such, but I wasnt induced with my son last time, so I'm kind of nervous and I would love to hear some personal experiences on the matter. edited for autocorrect
I was induced with #1 at 38.5 and wasn't very dilated/effaced. I had to go in the night before for cervidil to ripen things up. My water started leaking early that morning, and we started pitocin. I got the epi a few hours later afternoon they fully broke my water. From start of pitocin to birth was about 12 hrs.
For #2 my water started leaking the day before his due date but I convinced myself it wasn't. On my due date I went in for my 40w and they checked and sure enough it was AF. I got pitocin to kickstart things and my epidural. This time the epi only took on one side and the contractions weren't waves, they were a solid torturous line. Luckily they re-placed the epi and I had a good 30 minutes before pushing. From pit to delivery was 4 hrs.
#3 we will see how it goes on Thursday. I'm already about a 4, so it should go pretty quickly.
I am sure you'll have a favorable bishop score and a good induction. It really wasn't thaaaat bad , especially after the epidural.
@erinh84 I was induced with my first at 39+6 after a doctors appointment my blood pressure was a little high and she checked my cervix and I was at a 4-5 dilated and about 75 percent effaced. So I had a pretty good starting point. They started the pitocin and had it increasing every half hour. They then came in and broke my water about an hour later. This set my contractions off the deep end and it was one after another lasting a minute every two minutes or so. I wasn't getting a break in between and was stuck at 7 cm for 4 hours and finally got the epidural. After I got the epi I was finally able to relax and could still feel the tightness but no pain about another 4 hours and I was pushing. 3 pushes and she was out. All in all total labor time was about 9 hours start to finish, but like I said I had a good starting point. I will say I think the pitocin made the contractions a little more intense. Hope this helps and good luck!!
edited to add... sorry you have no idea who I am. I just realized I was in the June 17 instead of July 17:
@erinh84, I'll likely be induced in two weeks too, unless this kid decides to come on his own, which is unlikely. I've been induced with all kids.
DD1: induction at 41+6, went in overnight for cervidil placement. Had two rounds. Started pitocin the following morning at 7am, labored all day, got the epidural around 1pm, started pushing around 5pm, had her at 7:33pm. (Total labor time = 12.5 hours)
DD2: was already dilated to 1-2, so no need to go in overnight for cervidil. Checked into the hospital at 5am, started pitocin at 7am, got epidural at 4cm, they broke my water at 6cm, dilated from 6 to 10 in 15 mins, pushed twice, she was born at 10:45am. (Total labor time = 3hrs, 45mins)
DD3: again already dilated 2-3cm, went in at 5am, started pitocin at 7, got epidural around 5cm, broke water at 6cm, dilated to 10cm in 20 mins, pushed 4 times, she was born at 10:15am. (Total labor = 3hrs, 15mins)
@erinh84 OB made the call to induce at 39+5. I was dilated to 4, so she said it should be an easy induction. Next morning went in for induction, was dilated to 5. I was GBS+ so they gave me a dose of penicillin, then at 10 AM OB came in to break water and they got me started on pitocin. First contraction was about 30 minutes later. Dilation was slow at first (5.5-6 by noon or so?) but contractions quickly got more intense, and by 3 PM I was at a 9, going through transition (and falling asleep between contractions) and they were getting everything together and my OB arrived again. I started pushing when I was dilated to 9.5. DS was born about 20 minutes later at 3:47 PM. About 5 hours total.
@erinh84 I was induced at 40+3 with my DD2 because I was leaking amniotic fluid. They started my pitocin about 3:30pm. My dilation moved at a pretty decent rate. I made it to 7cm when my hubby strongly advise getting the epidural (my last med free birth wore me out and took a long recovery). By the time that was in and working it was 9:30pm. I was pushing at 10:30 and my DD was born at 10:50pm!
With my DS I was induced at 40+2. I was at 3cm when I arrived they broke my water and nothing happened so they started pitocin at 5pm. By 9:30 I at 8cm but he wasn't moving into position. He was huge and in my opinion stuck for a very long time. He finally was able to move some and was born at 5:52am 9lbs 3oz and almost 22 inches long. He had a huge bump on the side of his head from trying to come out wrong.
I'm scheduled to be induced this time at 40+1. I've got preexhisting medical stuff so they don't really want to let me go long and I'm AMA.
I gave birth on Sunday via VBAC and unfortunately, I have a second degree tear. It is still really painful and I'm just wondering if any STM+ mom's who tore previously could tell me how long, in their experience, the pain lasts?
@doodleoodle My tear wasn't as bad as yours, but my pain prettym much went away gradually over a month or so. I think it was about two weeks before I felt like I could use toilet paper instead of the peri bottle, which kind of felt like a healing threshold somehow. I know that by six weeks I wasn't in pain most of the time. I still (19 months later) feel a small amount of pain sometimes, but I think my doctor might have stitched me a little crooked or something. Or maybe that is just how it is, I don't know.
@doodleoodle I had a second degree tear with DS and I want to say the pain was gone within 3 weeks or so. I didn't really need the peri bottle at all, but it did make me feel cleaner. I used Tucks pads to line my sanitary pads, Earth Mama Angel Baby bottom spray and bottom balm, and ibuprofen, and this combo worked great for me. My doctor also did a really good job stitching me up and everything went back to feeling normal pretty fast.
@doodleoodle I had a second degree tear (gave birth Tuesday) and while still uncomfortable the pain is mostly gone. I do still have to take it slow, but I'm barely taking ibuprofen anymore. I would guess everyone is different, though.
At what point (how many cm) did those of you who got an epidural get it? How much longer were you in labor before pushing? Just curious, part of me has always wanted to go med free, but the other night I woke up with insane cramps like my uterus was getting pulled out of my body (they went away) but it had me second guessing my options!
@MKRLTX with DD I was induced and after 16 hours still at 4cm I got the epidural and it actually helped me make more progress. With DS I went in at 7-8cm and yelled at everyone until I got the epidural (not my finest moment)
@MKRLTX I got mine at 5cm. I had a goal of 7 cm but I started throwing up from the pain and got really tired so I decided to give the epi a go. I'm so glad I did because I got to sleep for a little bit and then pushing was 20 min because I had some energy to do so.
I was 4/5 cm which is why I gave in. I was in so much pain and only half way there. Had my epidural 30 minutes later. 30 minutes after that I was 10 cm and pushing. 40 minutes later he was out.
Nurse said the same thing about it making me progress faster....because my body relaxed.
