Re: Weekly Randoms 3/20

  • @huskermom14 I was diagnosed with a partial PP at my anatomy scan and by 24 weeks it had moved to complete. The OB said it's a matter of how my uterus is stretching. I have another scan this Friday and I'm also hoping mine moved. I haven't had any issues but they also haven put me on pelvic rest. We shall see what Friday holds.
Fingers crossed that your ute stretches and gets the placenta out of the way! (Not a phrase i ever imagined I'd say...)

  • Reading about you ladies and your losses or close family member's who've had a loss just makes me want to cry for all of you right now.  I hope that everyone was/is able to grieve as they need to in order to find closure.  I had a sailor who lost 4 pregnancies in a row.  It was heart breaking every time it happened.

I finally understand all of the comments on the glucose drink. This is nasty.
  • It's only 10am here.  I'm exhausted already and don't want to go to my birthing class tonight from 7-9.
  • @Kylieslip24 I'm always surprised at all the Dad's at gymnastics too. It's awesome!

@Mother0fDragons rock it girl. And enjoy the water.  Nothing feels quite as amazing as being completely submerged in water when your pregnant!

DS and I had a nice day today while DD was in preschool.  I had a chiropractor apt and she worked on my sciatic nerve a lot.  I feel so much better.  Then I ran to gap outlet and old navy in search of some things for the hospital/PP.  I didn't find what I wanted but I still have time.  Then we went to chick fil a and it was really Nice to just have one kiddo there.  Now waiting to pick up DD for naps.  Tonight is our hospital tour.  So other than messing up dinner (forgetting to put it in the crock pot) it's been a really good day so far!

Edited to remove bc I posted before catching up. Nothing to see here. ☺
  • I got my double stroller in the mail today! I'm excited to get it put together. Watch Amazon's open box warehouse deals for stuff you need, guys. I got it brand new (damaged packaging) for over $100 off!

I love Amazon warehouse deals! I got $20 off DS' birthday gift this year ($90 instead of $110). Granted, it did come missing a piece even though it was supposed to be complete, but I just contacted the toy company directly and they quickly sent the piece, no questions asked.

Waiting to see if I get a call about my glucose test this afternoon, and if not, I'm in the clear. FX! I feel great though; had four hard boiled eggs before the test, then a burger after. Plenty of protein to balance out the sugar. I had forgotten that they do the Tdap at this appointment as well, so now I have quite a sore arm. Oh well...
  • @ellie111227 which double did you get? Still haven't been able to decide on one.
  • @Allybiery I got the Britax b agile double. I have two friends who have it and they both love it, so I decided to go with that one. It folds up really small for a double, which I was looking for, and it is supposed to maneuver really well and fit through regular doorways even though it is a side by side. It's been fluctuating between $360 and $419 on Amazon, but I found it as a warehouse deal last week for $310.
  • @ladylolly89 I had big plans to go out for a protein filled lunch after my gtt. Then I was running late getting home so I bought a scone and two cookies at the bakery next door to the lab and ate them in the car instead. No regrets.

Hey, whatever works! I have low blood sugar, so I would crash hard. That sounds amazing though!
  • Thanks @ellie111227 I'm looking for something like that, want it to fold up as small as possible and maneuver thru most places. Sounds like you got a nice deal!

Those of you who travel a lot for work - have you continued to go through the X-ray machine as normal? I've been flying quite a bit lately, and I've noticed the sign in IAH that says some pregnant women may choose to avoid the machine. I have an appt tomorrow morning before my next trip on Monday, so I'm planning to ask my doctor then.
  • @tjvan A lot of people weighed in on this a couple weeks ago if you have the patience to comb through weekly randoms threads looking for it. Maybe @alm52386 can help find it? I think she was the one asking.

People had different opinions, but my summary would be this: it hasn't been studied, so no one can tell you for sure whether it is safe it not, but it probably is. You definitely can opt out and get a pat down instead though, so it is really up to your comfort level. Many pregnant women (including me) opt out just to be safe because the pat down is no big deal, but it's also not at all unreasonable to decide you are ok with the possible small risk and just go through the scanner.

Ah sorry about that - but thanks for the recap! Appreciate that.

In other news, anyone else getting really tired of their maternity clothes already? Not wanting to buy anymore, but I'm so ready to move on from the same work clothes!!
  • @tjvan  yep.. I especially hate all my maternity pants. I think I'm going to outgrow stuff in the next couple weeks so I'm waiting for that to happen before buying more. I haven't spent much because I've mostly found decent second hand stuff so far - hoping that continues.

  • @tjvan I didn't mean that you shouldn't have asked! It wasn't its own thread or anything even. I just meant that if you managed to track it down you might find some good answers there in case you dint get a ton here.
  • @tjvan Definitely! This was my second winter in a row wearing my maternity wardrobe. I am sick of nearly everything. Thankfully, I have some spring clothes that I haven't worn much (DS was an April baby), and I'll also get a few new spring/summer items in the next month or so. Bring on the skirts and maxi dresses!
  • Anyone else get told they need to not gain much more weight? I know I was bad this month with sweets. I cant say no to cake.
I'm 28 weeks and my weight gain is 25 lbs so far. Doctor said walk 30 minutes everyday. Hahhahahahaahhaah
But in all seriousness, I'll take diet tips if anyone wants to give them. I can't go in full diet mode obviously, so I'll just have to watch it I guess.

@jennas312 I find that trying to eat fairly healthy 5 days a week and letting myself splurge a little on the weekends is helping me with balance. Since I am getting hungrier, I am also trying to have smaller meals and more frequent snacks to curb the hunger. If I am craving sweets during the week I stick with those greek yogurt ice cream type bars or an already portioned single serve ice cream cup. Believe me, it was tough talking myself out of going to DQ and eating a blizzard for lunch after my md appt today, but I told myself I can get one on Saturday...... I also try to walk for 30-60min a day and drink a lot of water.

ETA: I also track what I eat in my fitness pal even on my "bad" days. It really helps you see how easy it is for a hungry pregnant woman to get to 2000 to 2200 calories.  On Saturday I had a cookie sundae and saw it add up to around 2900 for the day... it is a good reminder that I can only eat like that every so often.
  • You know what's fun?  Getting the call from daycare that your kid isn't getting a good report today because he was spitting in other kids faces today.  I appreciate the phone call because often the staff in the room switches during naptime and the people there at pickup are not usually the ones who dealt with the behaviors - therefore I don't get an accurate reports about WHY he doesn't have a good report (and DS's response every time is "i don't know").  But I was absolutely livid.  The downside to daycares are the bad habits they pick up from other kids.  He never spits at home, but so frustrating.  I may have overreacted but I made him spend 20 minutes in his room by himself for a time out (this is not his first incident with "aggressive" behavior if you will - he punched another kid about a month ago).  If he lied to me about what happened or why, it was going to be a more serious consequence.

But I'm exhausted today and this was the last thing I wanted to deal with.  Parenting is hard, yo.

  • I'm outgrowing my pants too. Making a trip to the mall this weekend so I don't have to go to work looking like Winnie The Pooh
  • I'm in L&D and I'm pretty sure it's nothing, but as some of you assured me, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I have some some sort of gastrointestinal bug and I was puking/pooping (multitasking, yo) and when I wiped there was a good amount of blood. The on-call said to come in, so here I sit and wait.

Thinking of you! Hope everything is ok! The GI bug is the worst.  I thought I was going to die when I had it.
  • Sending good thoughts your way @Stankonia2014 and that you feel better soon too!!

For the many reasons I love daycare for my kids (as opposed to a nanny), this is the one thing that I lose my mind over.  DS is such a good kid and very well behaved.  Well a teacher let me know that he was running around saying "F!" with a little friend the other day.  Ummm... we don't swear in my household!  Turns our the friend's parent admitted that was a word overheard at their home and it was picked up from them.  DS had told me that his friend told him the word, but I struggled to believe it until the teacher sheepishly confirmed the situation the next day.   This little friend of DS has really given him some bad habits that he never had until this kid moved into his room!
  • @Stankonia2014 hope it's nothing. Keep us posted. Thinking of you.

  • @Stankonia2014 don't make me come down there and kick your butt into shape (if you're still here, that is)!

But in all seriousness, I hope all is well with you and baby and you are feeling better soon!

That makes sense. She said my placenta is really long so it must just be stretching weird or something. So far I haven't had any bleeding so that's good at least. I can deal with pelvic rest and a support belt at work if it keeps me from bedrest! I hope yours stretched out of the way too! I'll be thinking of you on Friday!
  • I hope things look up for you @Stankonia2014 and that you and LO are safe!
  • MithKMithK member
Anyone else being told that the LO isn't growing fast enough because you're not eating enough? All this time I was soaking in all the glory of comments like 'OMG you're so small for 29 weeks!'....but now after finding out that LO isn't growing as quickly as he should and that, that could have serious repercussions, it's got me really worried. I feel like I'm eating a whole lot because I perpetually feel full, but turns out that isn't the case. And god, I thought a situation where someone tells me to eat more would be a dream...but here we are....and now forcing myself to eat all the time is just making me feel physically uncomfortable all day and I think I might actually hate food a little. Pretty sure I'm gonna regret saying this is a problem when I'm trying to lose all the baby weight once LO comes out.
