@nda_rozybabe I had no shower for my first but a surprise family shower for my second. So I don't know that being a second kid made a difference or not, but I was team green for both. I received tons of diapers and other basic necessities, but not much clothes. I did receive 2 sets of more girly clothes with ruffles and all that are still hanging up in DS2's closet. So I will wait and see if they get used this time around.
@nda_roxybabe I think we went to the same market. Lots of #mombear tshirts and overpriced baby clothes? If I saw something at one booth, I saw it at 7.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot I was actually going to ask if you went! I did get a super cute little sweatshirt with joggers, a teething ring, a candle (lol), and honey! They had some cute stuff, but hard without knowing the sex of the baby. I agree on the repetitiveness, especially with wooden signs.
I'm having a pretty small shower, so I don't expect to get too loaded with clothes from that. My MIL, though, was showing my H an outfit she saved from when he was a baby. I guess her grandpa picked it out the day before he passed away, so it always had extra sentimental value to her. She mentioned how if we have a boy, she'd love to give it to us. It's a plaid shirt with oranges/browns and jean overalls. My H almost said that'd be perfectly fine for a girl, too, but held his tongue (recap, we're keeping the sex a surprise for everyone else). I'm glad he did, cause she definitely would have picked up on that.
@nda_roxybabe Yes, there was a lot of cute stuff. I only walked out with an owl picture holding for my Harry Potter nursery, but there was a lot I liked. And wooden signs with words! Oy. I admit to owning a few, but each house should have a limit, right?
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot I think so, haha. I did see one I loved that had lots of blank space then at the bottom said "Lets stay home together". H wants a custom sign so I took some cards.
@nda_roxybabe I am totally a headband/bow mama with DD. The only time she doesn't have a bow in her hair with when MH dresses her. I already bought a new one for this babe should it be a girl.
@achays11 For a short while I had an etsy shop selling headbands and paci clips. I love them! I'm not into the huge southern style bows, but more dainty stuff. If this one comes out a girl I imagine myself in the hospital adding bows and dresses to an Etsy cart.
On newborn photos, I am a HUGE proponent and I'm normally not into sentimental things. I found that the first few weeks of DS's life were a total blur and the pics I did take were not great. I found a photographer that did some posed typical baby pics and then a bunch of lifestyle pics of me and DH with baby. We did a 1 year package, so she came back at 6 months and again at a year. It was right around $1k for all 3 and I think it was totally worth it. But maybe I'm just a really bad personal photographer. In any case, we've already got the same photographer lined up for this baby.
You guys...I'm going CRAZY. It's day 5 of the snowstorms in the NE and my mother in law is visiting from Utah. She got in on Wednesday and was supposed to leave today, but her flight was cancelled and she is now here until Wednesday. She picked up the stomach bug that has already made it's round through our little family. She's a perfectly nice lady, but we don't spend a ton of time with her because she lives on the other side of the country and we have very little in common with her besides the family thing (extreme differences on politics, religion, life priorities, child rearing, etc). Our relationship works BECAUSE of the distance. Between entertaining her and my stir crazy toddler, I'm wishing I could bust open multiple bottles of wine every night. And DH got called into work this afternoon, so here I sit. Ready to murder someone (but trying to stay outwardly positive) and wishing I was at work. Sigh. Sorry for the rant...
I am getting a new student in my program tomorrow who was rescued from a very bad situation. Meeting with her today has me rattled. I can definitely tell the hormones are affecting me more these days.

@Kipperoo I completely empathize with you. I don't really like when anyone stays with us for more than one night. It just messes with my routine. I would go nuts if my MIL stayed with us that long. Luckily (I guess?), she only lives 10 minutes away from us, so there wouldn't ever be a reason for them to stay like that.

Counting on you guys to send me some fabulous Etsy sellers with pretty, dainty bows. If I can't drown my in-law/snow sorrows in wine, I'll settle for drowning them in cute bows for this little lady...
@achays11 I really need to see if my previous co-owner still has the supplies. If not, I need to go ahead and order a few for paci clips. The headband stuff once I know if baby will need one.
@Kipperoo I've got 7 nieces, so lots of favorites! I love the little bow I just ordered last night (shop name above in my comment). Hoping it's as cute in person. Off the top of my head: Confetti Babe, Charlie Coco's, Willow Crowns, Ryan and Wren... New shops on my list: Hello Miss Gorgeous (the only huge bows I think look cute and I think just for NB photos), Think Pink Bows, Dearest of Mine, Lucky Crickets, Blushing Peach, and Pearl and Earle.
Super cute dolls: Pockets of Posies and Heather Feather 022 (all my nieces have received a custom animal doll from her for their first Bday).
Okay and because I can't stop. If this baby is our little Lennon aka "Lemon" I'm ordering these:
and last thing. Not re opening my shop, by any means, but if I end up making and paci clips and headbands and anyone here wants some, I'll send them to you as a gift. Providing of course I still like you by the the time our babies are born :P
@nda_roxybabe, THANK YOU! You've given me some fab browsing options for tonight after DS is down. I signed up for the monthly bow delivery from Little Poppy Co. because my SIL has them for her daughter and I thought it would be sweet if they were matching from time to time. Plus, I'm a sucker for monthly subscriptions. And those outfits are ADORABLE. I think I'm going to do some major "poor me" credit card damage tonight...oops...
I was lurking on TTGP and saw they had a thread about why your user name is your user name, and I thought that was kind of interesting. Anyone else interested in that?
@Jen_Shoes: Is yours about shoes because it's your last name... or do you have a problem?
@nda_roxybabe Promise I'll stop stalking you today, but Pockets of Posies are my favorite. I follow them on Insta and stalk their booth anytime I find them at a market. Unfortunately I never got DD one of their dolls when she was young. Now that she's older, she turns her nose up at anything non-commercial (i.e. Disney, Dreamworks, etc.) so I can't justify getting her one now. I point them out to her every time and she's like, "yeah, that's cool" and then moves on to the next booth that inevitably has something made with Frozen fabric.

Omg @nda_roxybabe I just ran across those same outfits yesterday! I am getting those for sure!!
@Kipperoosorry the snowstorm has caused you to have an extended houseguest. Even with people I like I can only handle my personal space being invaded for a few days before I start getting twitchy.
@irwardrop I haven't booked a newborn session...we have a nice camera from our honeymoon & I do photo-editing as part of my graphic design freelancing, so I'll probably take our own.
However, I AM doing a maternity shoot on Friday with a photog' friend of mine, and it's $500. I think it's something to note that it's not just the photos and the time you are paying for, but the photo-editing. If they take 100 photos and it takes 5 minutes each photo (which is on the low end) to get the color, levels, and editing out any bruises, veins, etc right, that's 1 hr photo-taking + 500 minutes (nearly 8.5 hours) on editing! As a freelancer, I can't tell you how many people hang up scoffing because they think a price is too high, when really it's a completely fair price for the work involved. That aside, I do understand there are already so many costs involved with a baby and it can just seem like a daunting amount.
Question for STM or FTM really anyone who wants to answer - I have a "meet and greet" with a potential pediatrician on Wednesday...First, I didn't know that was a thing, but I'm going with it. My question is, in your opinion what is the most important question you would ask a pediatrician? I'm hoping to just chat and see if I get a good "vibe" from her, but thought I'd ask around and see what you ladies thought.
Most important to me is their stance on vaccines. My pediatrician will not take patients who refuse to vax. Other questions might include: - Whether they have weekend hours and, if not, if they are associated with or recommend a specific urgent care. - If there is more than one doctor in the practice, how often you will see the other doctors or PAs for sick visits.\ - Whether the doctor is affiliated with your birth hospital. - Whether the waiting room has separate areas for sick kids, well kids, and newborns.
H gave me permission to buy girl stuff because he is so confident. I am like, lets hold off here a moment buddy!
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot Hey, stalk away! :P I'm going to definitely get one of their dolls, just waiting because I will want to customize and make super girly.
@Kipperoo I love Little Poppy Co. I haven't bitten the bullet and gotten a subscription, but if LO is a girl I might. I also love Simply Sweet Bows, Little Crane Headbands, Sticky Bliss, and Blushing Bows. Just to name a few.
@rosemarylaff - Other things I would add to your interview would be: - Do they come to the hospital at the time of birth? Usually a pediatrician will see your baby during your stay and if yours comes to the hospital, then you know to call them right away. Otherwise they'll be seen by a hospital pediatrician. - What is their same day call-in policy? - What tests/services are provided there and which do you have to go somewhere else for (and where)? (vaccinations, blood draws, throat cultures, x-rays, etc). **I would also pay close attention to how the front office is ran. How long are people put on hold for? What is the attitude/friendliness of the front staff like? How long do you have to wait for the appointment? Etc.

As far as photography goes, maternity photos are not my thing so we haven't done them with either kid nor are we planning on them this time around. We didn't do nb pics with DS but we did a photo shoot when he was 3 months old. We did do a nb shoot for DD and probably will for this baby also. Last time we paid $125. The hospital charged the same price for 25 digital images so I'm thinking we might go with the hospital this time so that we don't have to worry about scheduling. If I don't like the hospital pictures, I do have a photographer friend who lives in my neighborhood and I'm sure she would do them.

@rosemarylaff I would definitely find out how long the average wait time is. The doctor might not tell you but you can look at reviews online. Also asking the front desk staff how often they get complaints about wait times. I'm in the market for a new pediatrician for this reason . on average I'm at the peditrician for almost 2 hours , whether it's a well baby or sick visit. Its ridiculous! One time we waited in the room for 1.5 hours and still didn't see the doctor, I got my baby dressed and just left..
So jealous of all you ladies that get to pick out cute girly things. This will be my second boy. Boys have such a small section in stores compared to girls! Especially at target. What's up with that.
My measurements with the tape measure - not a U/S - were 1 week behind today even though I've gained 20 pounds during this pregnancy. I was measuring 24 at 25 weeks. The doctor said it's normal and that there can be a 2 week variance, but it still really bothers me because of PGAL brain. He has a good heartbeat and I feel him move all the time, though. Anyone else measuring a little small?

@kns1988 try not to worry!! That measurement method is SUPER inaccurate even if you have the landmarks correct. No personal experience, but my BFF that's due in March has been measuring small for some time and it has gotten more pronounced so they started ultrasounds. Now she's doing twice weekly NSTs to make sure baby is healthy. Even with all that, and baby measuring under 10%ile, they say she just probably has a little one in there and it seems perfectly healthy.

First, those wait times are ridiculous! I'm glad you're shopping for a new doc. Unacceptable.
And second, YES! You are right! The boys' section has got to be on the bottom end of a 4:1 or 5:1 ratio of girls racks to boys racks for clothing. It's seriously no joke. I've had people gift my little guy clothes and say the exact same thing, about the lack of selection. (I'm having a second boy too!)
