@RainyDays86 You look awesome! @starphish18 That totally blows! That feeling is awful. I'm sorry.
Hope everyone that had awesome plans had a great time tonight. All plans we had went out the window as DH woke up Friday with the flu. In the 11 years we have been together I have never seen him so ill. Question: Do you go to readymed for the flu? It's not the vomit kind of flu. He has a fever, aches, chills, and looks like warm death. I just don't want to drag him there tomorrow to wait if there isn't something they can do.
@RainyDays86 you look totally badass! I'm very in awe of your strength through everything.
@RedInLove we're supposed to get 10-16 inches where I live and we got 12 inches on Thursday. I guess we're making up for last year and not getting snow!
Also over my DH's aunt. His Grandpa isn't doing well at all. He's on Hospice care, and we've all stepped up to help in any way we can. Except the one aunt. My MIL works two days a week and is returning to work next week. The aunt was told we needed her to come help on monday. No problem. Then she calls tonight and says "sorry, something came up and I can't be there." Grandma starts to cry, because the idea of being alone if something happens terrifies her. So now I'm calling out of work so that I can go sit at their house so grandma isn't alone. This isn't the first time she's flaked and we've had to scramble to make arrangements. I just figure it's going to be her loss. She's the one who will have to live with the fact that she wasn't around in his last days.
@RainyDays86 You look beautiful and badass. Chin up mama - thinking of you a lot these days.
@Louise_Belcher Getting swabbed / diagnoses can help direct therapy but if his symptoms are classic they may just prescribe oseltamivir (Tamiflu) which can reduce the duration of illness. Won't take it away but worth the trouble with most people. Low risk in terms of side effects. Mostly a little GI upset (not vomiting/diarrhea except in rare cases). Hope he feels better soon and you escape any symptoms! I feel he does test positive or they prescribe tamiflu they may recommend that you get the prophylactic dose (once daily for 10 days instead of twice daily for 5). Safe during pregnancy (and preferred over ending up with the flu, so consider that as part of the risk/benefit decision) - I'm on my last day of it tomorrow as I was around a hospital patient who we didn't test right away (and I can't remember if I masked in his room...). Wishing healthy thoughts for your household.
@RainyDays86You look awesome! I hope you rock your buzz cut, it can be really liberating...I'm currently growing back my hair, but during my first pregnancy I had all of my hair shaved off (part of a greif process) and honestly I loved it and I hope you find a way to as well.
@starphish18 Ugh, I'm sorry about your friends...I hate when stuff like that happens, like PP said, it takes you right back to feeling like a little kid
It continues to bother me that all the birth month boards are Month Year Moms, except for September 2017. It's sort of annoying me that it is different.

Has anyone thought about what to get baby shower hostesses for a thank you gift? Mine is next weekend and I'm at a loss. What's usually an appropriate amount to spend or a good idea?

Hostess gifts: I know people here will come up with some great ideas for you. I personally gave my sister a charm for her Pandora collection; does your hostess have any collectible jewelry like that? I spent in the $50-80 range for each person I gifted. (No idea if that's normal!)
Other thoughts: scarf, clutch, clothing accessories. Think about her interests, too: If she's a gardener, a potted indoor plant? If she's a foodie, a book by a fav chef or a nice knife or some kitchen gadgets? Is she's super girly, you could go the makeup/perfume/mini sample sets route. I think a gift card to a restaurant would be fine if paired with something tangible, like a bottle of wine, maybe to unwind after the shower.
@sarah0985 For baby shower hostess gifts, I was thinking I'd shoot for something similar to a house warming gift. Maybe a nice bottle of wine, a bathroom basket (lotion, bath salts, etc), a gift card for a restaurant, or a food basket. Or, for instance, one of my aunts loves to cook, so I might do a nice bottle of flavored olive oil or aged balsamic vinegar instead of wine.
@skzw and @starphish18 thanks. Those are some great ideas. Also, is the etiquette on this like bridesmaids gifts that it's usually all the same gift and given all together? Or is it acceptable to do different things and give them seperately?
i have 3 hostesses; 2 of whom are my best friends and 1 is a coworker that honestly surprised me by wanting to help. Do I need to get them together to give them or can I do it seperately?
Eta. I'm a little at a loss because in my group/circle, we've never done hostess gifts. I didn't receive any for any showers I've thrown nor did I even expect them. I did bridesmaids gifts but never gave hostess gifts.

@sarah0985: Totally acceptable to give separate, different gifts! You can make it more personalized that way, and with wedding parties, a lot of the time, the gift is something that you wear or use during the wedding/reception (like jewelry, watch/ties for guys, drinking glasses, etc.), so it makes sense that it's all matchy matchy. A baby shower, IMO, is so much less formal, and the gifts can be whatever you make of them!
I think it's really nice that you're thinking about giving gifts to these ladies, considering your circle hasn't done them before. It's a really nice gesture, and I'm sure ANYthing you choose would be appreciated!
@mdlorenz Thank you so much for your response! I didn't realize there was a test and any med to help shorten this would be wonderful. I didn't even think there would be something they could do to try to prevent it in me. Again thank you!

One of my prego symptoms is vision changes, so I might be blind... literally... but I don't see what you're referring to: Like, on the main list of bump birth months? It says Sept 2017 Moms. Right?

Like @KMD1106 showed, and maybe it's just in app that it's wrong as I don't tend to access TB on my laptop. But yes, they are all with the word MOMS in the board title except for September.

My shower when I had DD was co-hosted by my mother, sisters, and MIL. I gave them all two boxes of their favorite K-Cup Coffees, and an appropriate mug - hot mugs for Mom and MIL, cold Tervis tumblers for my sisters.

@KMD1106@RedInLove: It's def a mistake in the app, the website for "Sept 2017 Moms" isn't like that. That would super annoy me too! (Devil's advocate: even though it looks like there's room there for the word, if it's set up like a table/column, there could be a character limit? IDK.) It'd bother me too. Things have to be "just so"!

The app has it correct for last year though. Strange.
Here's what DD and I accomplished yesterday. I can't wait to give it to DH. Tip for doing anything paint related with a toddler, just take off your shirt because it will be messy.
Any STM+ have advice for a shower gift for my friend/hostess who is weeks away from becoming a mother of 2 under 2? Not sure what I'm looking for other than just something that would be nice/useful/indulgent with a newborn and 15 month old (besides a nanny!) I've considered a few things but open to new ideas. I've thought about a month of Hello Fresh etc, a basket of home spa/bath items... but then I kinda run dry
@ShadeofGreen816: I love those ideas, the Hello Fresh and home spa lotions and potions. (I recommend a little tin of Badger Balm; the sleep balm has a soothing scent to rub on your temples). Maybe cute/fuzzy socks asnd slippers? What about hiring a house cleaner for a half day? She can pick a time that works best for her, and you could pay for it (like ~$100 for 3-4 hours). What about printing out a little certificate to offer an afternoon of babysitting? I just saw another idea online: a "date night" gift basket: dry pasta, jar of sauce, wooden spoon, bottle of wine... you could do one with a DVD, popcorn, and candy... hopefully this helps get you thinking
Ok, they must have finally figured out they forgot "Moms" for the Sept 2017 peeps because it use to be no where and now they've added it to BMB lists on the website.
I just discovered a box of Reese's peanut butter cup cookie dough buried behind my frozen veggies! Since it's snowing like a mofo and we just had dinner, it's warm cookies for dessert!!

@RedInLove@Yiggle09@Jen_Shoes@Kipperoo and other northeastern residents: quick story. After the snowfall so far today, which was a good half-foot, my hubbs went out to shovel, just to make tmrw's shoveling a little easier (p.s. he said I shouldn't since I'm prego, and I didn't argue the point!). My neighbor went out at the same time. She shoveled one lame path from her door to her car (not down the sidewalk, not out to the street). Got in her car, sat in it, and warmed it up. Spent some time sitting in the car---I'm pretty sure, on the phone the whole time. Then proceeded to drive her car back out of the driveway into the street and then (not kidding) right back into the driveway. Then back out, and back in, again & again, like a dozen times. I was watching out the window, probably looking like a mouth-breather, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Back & forth, driving over all the snow, especially where the street plow had come by and mounded it up. Is this the most ridiculously lazy thing you've heard of?! Instead of shoveling and creating a safe space for her family to walk (and frankly being a good role model?), she hangs out in her car & drives over & packs down the snow & exemplifies to the world her crazy lazy ways. I can't even fathom right now.... I've never seen such ridiculousness! Hubbs came in later also shaking his head. What the what?!
