Re: Symptoms (1/31)

  • @hisqueen78 You have to have all the plans written for your leave??? That's crazy! Fortunately, we only have leave our curriculum maps and whatever resources we to help the planning. Our team also does a lot of team planning so we each take different subject areas and then adapt for our individual needs. Best thing we ever did!

  • My newest symptom is unrelenting carpal tunnel wrist pain, worse in my right (dominant) arm. :( I hear it is unlikely to improve after pregnancy... ugh.
Other than that, I'm in the same boat as most of the above posters: exhausted, waddling, back pain, peeing all the time, etc. And nesting. :) Really enjoying watching the nursery come together.
You know, mine DID improve after my son was born. I had to be careful to wear a wrist brace at night and when I could during the day, and after a few weeks it was better.

  • @kjd291 I have the same issue with waking up. Mine is usually 2am-4am then my alarm goes off at 5:30. I feel like I should get up and get ready that early and then just lay back down but I don't want to move.

@longliveregina I wish I could rearrange my room. It's hard for me to stand for long now so I sit a lot either on my desk or on a stool. I'm in a computer lab so if someone has a question I have walk all the way to the back which makes my belly hurt even more. To top it off I'm stressed about how many weeks of lesson plans to write. My sub is the persons whose job I took when he retired 3 years ago so he knows the content but I'm still confused on what to do. I asked my principal and she told me to ask him. I asked him and he says that it doesn't matter he is at my disposal. I'm not that type of person though I need a concrete number so I can plan accordingly.
I printed all the materials and plans I would need until the end of the semester. I didn't plan out which days to do things, but rather divided materials into learning topics. (I teach history.) So I put all notes/worksheets/activities having to do one topic, say the beginning of the refirnation, in one packet and attached directions for how to use each activity. The sub can organize the day and spread of the lessons deciding what to do each individual day (so make the plan for order of events the individual unit/day), but all the directions and activities will be planned for them. I think I'm going to make a thread about this later since we have a few teachers.

If you do plan the rest of the semester and then come back partway through, you will have one less thing to worry about with baby at home. :)

  • I was stretching before getting into bed last night thinking "ya know, I haven't had a Charlie horse in a good month!" ...
and, wham. Cursed myself. Middle of the night Charlie horse and the worst part was I looked like a flailing beached whale cuz I couldn't reach my foot to stretch out my calf. Hahah.
  • @longliveregina @kelizr @ShaunaT25 Have any of y'all spoken with your docs about SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction)? I was experiencing REALLY bad pubic bone pain for a few weeks and kept mentioning it to my doctor and they just diagnosed me with SPD. I specifically was having trouble with anything that required my legs spread (getting in/out of the car, going up stairs, getting into bed, putting on pants, etc.) so it sounds really similar to some of what you are talking about.

Honestly, there's not much they can do about it, but sometimes it's nice to know WHY things are happening lol

I will ask about it on Monday....but I know that the only real relief is rest and as a teacher I can't exactly work from home. :-/

  • @longliveregina I have the same problem... But there are some potential implications with delivery if you are diagnosed which is why I brought it up. (but also, I'm not a doctor so don't take my word for it haha)

Never heard of it! But will ask when I'm in on Thursday. My first was high and breech so never really moved down. I just assumed this was from the pressure of this little lady being incredibly low and head down.... just figured I was hitting that point.

@longliveregina my 3 1/2 year old has a cold and cough that had me up most of last night. If it repeats tonight, I'm taking a mental health day just so I can relax and rest tomorrow! This job, with a toddler too, is exhausting!!

Oh good to know! Thank you. My sister has her old brace she is planning to lend me, so I'll get that from her ASAP.

  • @EnglishTeacherMama I don't know if you've seen my posts about this (both in symptoms and randoms) but I've experienced this with all 3 pregnancies. This pregnancy it has been the worse so far, braces not helping and keeping me up in excruciating pain from about 2am until my alarm each morning.

My doctor had always suggested going to talk to an ortho hand specialist and finally this time I got desperate enough to do so.

I ended up getting bilateral injections (just two days ago) and I had immediate relief! Last night I slept for the first time in weeks all the way through the night and I almost cried when I woke up from the joy I felt!

If the pain pain gets bad enough, I would suggest looking into it..from the perspective of someone who thought I needed to endure the pain for three pregnancies before finally realizing that I didn't have to suffer!
  • My symptom lately-excessive thirst-and not for anything but water. Anyone experiencing this towards the end of pregnancy?

And no food sounds good good at all anymore. Not even my beloved ice cream which I've been so attached to this pregnancy. My double chin is thanking me for developing a sudden aversion to food, but hello! I'm still hungry all the time!!
  • @Cbeanz Me too!! One of my students exhaled and I could smell his morning breath and now I'm way too in tune to it to ignore. Just what I love smelling right when I get into work.
For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him.

  • I got a really bad stomach flu last night and am currently experiencing what I think is heartburn for the first time in my life. If so wow this is no joke, I thought I was having a heart attack. My midwife helped me feel a little more at ease and said to try some zantac. So I'm patiently waiting for that. Anyone else have heartburn so severe you're hunched over with chest pains in the middle? I have no experience with heartburn.

Yes. At the end of my last pregnancy my heart burn felt like my diapragm was burning (like it was injured or something). Straightening out hurt so bad.

  • @Burrberrymum Unfortunately, that's what it's like! Meds are the best, but the other most important thing for me is not to lie down soon after eating or drinking.  I even cut off water before bed.  There are lists of foods you can find to avoid, but for me, timing my meals so I'm sure I'll be upright for a couple hours after is the most helpful thing.  (Lying down and eating are basically my only two hobbies right now so it's not as easy as it sounds!)
  • @Burrberrymum as to your earlier TMI complaint (about what my husband refers to as "swamp ass"

So I get heartburn/acid reflux now and it's no fun. However, I wanted to let you know last year I had crushing pain in my chest that felt like I was having a heart attack. I couldn't get comfortable - i was hunched over and crying. I took tums and they didn't work. 5 hrs later and still in pain i went to the er and they gave me pain meds then sent me home with an appt for an ultrasound for my gallbladder. I was having a gallbladder attack. I had several more attacks in the next few weeks and ended up needing my gallbladder out. I hope this isn't the case for you but I just wanted to let you know in case the pain doesn't ease up with Zantac.

Ohhhhh that's not a lovely name.. but yep. So fun.
  • All I wanted to do was lay, being I was so sick the last 12 hours but I did notice it made it way way worse. I feel for those of you who have dealt with severe heartburn all throughout the pregnancy.

I also have earned a good sleeper! Dd1 started sttn around a year. But here we are well past 2 years with dd2 and I can count on two hands the number of nights she's slept all night.

I would not have believed this were possible if it didn't happen to me.

Right? People are all, "If you only do x, then he'll sleep better." don't they think I've already tried whatever that is?

  • Can't shake the anxiety. Keep convincing myself my pre-e is back and I'm dying. Ugh. I hate these hormones. I want my brain back. I know I'm just doing this to myself, but I'm Waiting for the pharmacy to open up so I can go check by BP anyway and hoping that will calm me the frick down.

I was looking at those! It's kinda late in the game for me to get one... but if it stops the panic attacks then it'd probably be worth it

Update--got to the pharmacy all anxious and took my BP at 138/88, sat and breathed and calmed myself down to get one more read, and it was 108/60 - clearly im just getting myself super worked up.

Anyone have advice for dealing with paranoia and anxiety these last few weeks. I'm working out, journaling, deep breathing, trying to distract myself: but it's just not working! I was up practically all night freaking out about nothing
  • @kjd291 - First, know that your anxiety might be hormonal, so the biggest thing you can do is cut yourself some slack. Give yourself permission to be a bit of a mess. What I mean by that is, sometimes worrying about anxiety actually compounds the anxiety you already have. There's nothing "wrong" with you, this is just your body dealing with rapid changes and it is normal, although frustrating.

Second, taking my blood pressure and charting what I find channels my nervous energy into a product, which I find satisfying. It helps me to see the trend and not worry about one higher reading at a random time.

Finally, please tell your ob or midwife how you feel at your next appointment. Don't do what I tend to do, which is minimize things to sound more reasonable. Tell it like it is. Explain how intense your anxiety is and ask for advice. Anxiety can get worse after the birth and during breastfeeding in my experience, so it's helpful to have people around you who understand you and can support you like your husband and doctor.

  • @kjd291 just in case you find it helpful, I use these worksheets a lot with clients: https://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resources/infopax.cfm?Info_ID=46

idk if you'll find it helpful, but thought I'd share just in case. Hope your anxiety eases soon!!

  • @kjd291 So sorry you're dealing with anxiety. :( I don't have much wisdom to share, as I see a therapist to manage generalized anxiety. Due to a hectic work and life schedule, I haven't seen her in over a month and it's noticeable to me. I hope that you find a nice way to relax and/or receive some support before LO arrives. @npaulie I really appreciate you linking that site and will be reading through it to assist with my own coping skills.

At some point in the last couple weeks, my baby's movement has gone from "Aw, so cute!" to "omg, is she trying to burst through my skin??" Not sure if that's a symptom, but it's definitely obvious and distracting at times!!
  • @kjd291 I'm sorry you are dealing with so much anxiety! I know for me It seems to be getting worse the further into pregnancy I get. I have been trying to keep my mind and body focused on what is in my control. I also am very fond of adult coloring books and taking hot baths. You're doing a great job momma you got this
