We don't do elf on the shelf. I'm too lazy. Ds has seen his friends and asked him how Santa knows if he's good and I told him I send Santa emails to his work computer lol
Our elf on the shelf is the laziest elf ever. I keep giving DD old "presents" that she has already gotten (i.e. Stickers from a goodie bag from an old birthday party she went to, a Santa hat I already gave her on Black Friday lol) but she is too young to figure it out so I'm running with it. SITB
Yourelf is giving daily presents?! I'd phase that tradition out now before you're stuck with it for the next 10 years...
Well more like.. dollar store presents. Or a piece of candy. Or old gifts hahahahahahahaha.
We scheduled newborn photos a while back and I'm curious if anyone has some cute ideas.. Pinterest can be a black hole for me. I want to do something cute to represent the rainbow baby symbolism too. Any ideas you guys are using? (This could be a new thread if anyone is interested)

I have converted from a crockpot to the instant pot- an electric pressure cooker. I can do things that would take 2-4hrs in less then 20-30min. I took a Mongolian beef recipe that cooked on high for 2 hrs and now cooks in 10min. Times can be deceiving though because you have to add in how long it takes to reach full pressure, but still amazingly fast. It has quickly become a staple that gets used 2-4 times a week. Best hard boiled eggs! Poor crockpot never gets used now.
And DH is responsible for moving the elf around in this house. If we/he forgets we just say she didn't have anything nice to report so didn't move. Kids love it overall and I can use it at times to help behavior.

What is up with so many of you having crockpot issues? Man, I love mine! I use it all the time.
The key to the Elf on the Shelf is to keep it low key. Ours basically moves from place to place but only occasionally does something funny or naughty. Ours also will bring letters or other things from Santa. Behavior reminders, their Christmas PJs, a new ornament for the tree, etc.
I read this today, if you needed a little PSA on future hiding spots.
Our elf just moved around boringly all month and then on Xmas eve morning he's gone and has left a gift for DS - it has jammies, a DVD, a bag of popcorn, and a packet of hot chocolate and we enjoy all of it together that night.
I have found that one of the secrets to the crockpot has to do with the protein you put in it. Really lean proteins (i.e. chicken breast, pork tenderloin) can't stand up to being in liquid that long and get a mushy, mealy texture. Higher fat content, tougher meat tends to work better (chicken thighs, pork shoulder, roasts). Just my 2 cents
Oh man, I want an Instant Pot so bad! Everyone I know who has one practically has a religious reverence for the thing. I have avoided spending the money on it so far, but I actually think it could be pretty helpful for cooking with a newborn. This purchase seems easy to rationalize...

I have a slow cooker but ive only ever used it for joints of roasting meat & its great for that. Pop it in before going out to work, set to low & come home to fall apart roast & make gravy with the juice. For roast beef i also add an onion, red wine & balsamic vinegar to cook in too.
Guys Florida is so stupid. Instead of nice cool winter weather it is 74 and freaking monsooning. It took me twice as long as usual to get to work because the roads flooded, and I am soaked up to my knees crossing the road to get into the building. The picture sucks, but below you can see the car wakes going over the curbs (I was stopped, not moving).
Is an Instant Pot the same as like a pressure cooker? My fiancé wanted to ask his parents to get us one for Christmas and I was like "pshh when are we ever going to use that"? Apparently every day haha....
Also, once you all try your instant pots I would love to hear your feedback... I've been eyeballing one, but I can't decide if it's worth the price and the space. I just am not sure I'd use it that often.
once you get over the intimidation factor it really is easy! I am in a few facebook groups and people post free kindle books for them which has helped too. So far I have done a whole chicken, tons of hard boiled eggs, Mac and Cheese, cheddar broccoli soup, chicken and wild rice soup, cheesecake, and yogurt. And I got it for $59 on amazon prime day. Well worth the price and really is great. Love the soups and pastas done in 5min- really can't beat that!
omg you guys.. my friend's daughter was born with a cranial defect and had to have a bunch of surgeries when she was little and will be in glasses forever. She just started kindergarten this year and another little girl has been SUPER bullying her. They talked to the teacher about it and she separated them at their work tables, but at recess this little 5 year old asshole took off my friend's kid's glasses and stepped on them until they broke. The mom offered to replace them like a normal human being, but when she found out it was going to be like almost 400 bux she turned into a SUPER asshole and wrote about how "we are all getting different stories as to how this happened and the glasses should have never ended up on the floor".
I told her she should write back and be like "I see where your daughter has learned her amazing social skills from".
@PerraSucia WTF!!!! What a worthless mom! That breaks my heart that your friends child is dealing with such a merciless bully (and from a bully family too). This makes my blood boil
That is so awful! The poor child has enough to contend with without dealing with dicks like that! Clearly the bully child gets her bad attitude & lack of compassion from her mother
That is infuriating just to read! I would rage if that happened to my kid. Also I would be infuriated if my kid did that to someone. Like seriously heaven help my child if he ever treated someone like that. Granted I would hope he never would as compassion and kindness is something we really try to work hard to teach him. But still.
Wow that makes me so sad for the little girl whose glasses broke and mad that the bully mom is acting that way! Children learn a lot through modeling, and I would make a good guess that the bully child probably sees this kind of behavior at home...
That makes me so mad! And sad that the little girl who is being the bully probably doesn't even know fully her behavior is completely unacceptable, since that seems it is what she is observing at home
Ugh the same coworker who's been heating up fish in the microwave, has now decided to heat up some other very stinky unidentifiable casserole today. I had to go to my manager and ask for help dealing with this, but when my manager confronted my coworker, they denied ever heating up fish at all. -.-

I only move it between the living room and kitchen. And if I forget, I just say she likes that spot haha
