Did anyone else wake up and need a serious hug this morning?
Yes. I am so sad and scared for the direction that the country just took.
I need so many hugs and so much wine. Embarrassed to be an American this morning.
Ditto. I really wanted to drink last night. Today I'm so disappointed and sad. And...I just don't understand how people could vote for him. It's disgusting. The words he used to degrade women continue to ring in my head. His racism is blatant. I heard he wants to repeal rights for LGBT. I'm actually scared of what will happen
Re: Cheap Hospitals. A girl on youtube mentioned that her hospital gives out car seats when you have a baby. Have you ever heard of that? She's in LA, Calif.
You guys, I've been dirty lurking on other boards, and you all need to go over to TTGP today. Go look at the Smash the Patriarchy thread. I needed it today!!!
Chiming in with my grief over this election. I'm not sure if I'm pregnancy-sleepy or post-weeping-sleepy. I'm curious to hear fivethirtyeight's post-election podcast and "how did the polls get this so deeply wrong" analysis so that is the ONLY motivation to get up off my couch and get on the treadmill, to listen to it.
Anyone have a burst of pain on one side of their pelvic area when they sneeze? I searched and tons of people have had it, but I don't know how far along they were. I'm 11w3d and I have a cold. This has only happened twice, though. Too early for round ligament pain?
I've had this with my last 2 pregnancies, too, but I can't go off of them on what's normal.
Me: 29, DH: 31 Married: October 2014 Began TTC: April 2015 BFP #1: 9/18/15. EDD 5/18/16. MC 10/26/15. (9w) BFP #2: 2/27/16. EDD 11/7/16. MC/D&E 4/20/16 (11w) BFP #3: 9/22/16. EDD 5/29/17. DS born 4/24/17 BFP #4: 5/20/18. EDD 1/23/19.
@kns1988 that totally sounds like round ligament pain. This is baby number 2 and I've been having it since at least 8 weeks. I get it from sneezing, coughing, and standing up too fast. Hooray!
Re: Cheap hospitals' and free car seats. Back in the 80's, most hospitals gave free car seats away as they were pushing the use of car seat safety for the first time.
When DS1 was leaving the NICU in 2011 we had to take the car seat in to see if he could pass the car seat test. I overheard a nurse ask another family where their car seat was. They did not have one and assumed the hospital would give them one. The hospital said they do not give them away but can sell one at a discounted price of $50.00. This family said they did not even have that. The nurse eventually said any amount the could pay would be fine, even if just $5.00. The family could not do that. So they did end up getting one free, but the nurse said she was concerned. She asked what they planned to do for diapers if they couldn't even pay $5.00 for a car seat. The family said they assumed the hospital gave diapers too. So the nurse did send them home with a few several packs.
Edited: I obviously can't spell early in the morning.
@kns1988 I never remember having round ligament pains with previous pregnancies. However, this time around 11-12 weeks I start having them. I notice the more active I am through out the day, the less I notice it.

@kns1988, I second this--it sounds like round ligament pain to me! It's been happening on and off for the last few weeks for me. Super annoying. It didn't happen with my last pregnancy until nearly the end of the 2nd trimester.

That's so sad, when we were in NICU there was a family that only had a 5lb + convertible car seat and the hospital told them they either had to buy a new car seat rated for a 4lb baby or wait until the baby weighed 5lbs before they would even attempt the car seat test.
@kns1988 you are not alone...I sporadically get these pains when I sneeze too!
Anyone else have terrible headaches?? At first I tried caffeine, then more water, then Tylenol, then just laying in a dark room and going to sleep...nothing really seems to kick them. Btw I'm 12 weeks today.
@NurseK2016 I had a horrible headache, borderline migraine this past weekend. I did a cold wash cloth on my head, caffeine, Tylenol, and heating pad on my upper shoulders/neck area. It eventually went away after like 4 hours of that. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice @jenshoes I'll have to try a cool wash cloth and heating pad next. I was telling my boss about it yesterday (she has 3 children) and she said oh yes, those are the hormones. So disappointing there isn't a ton you can do about it, but I am very lucky and had very minimal MS so I suppose I should stop complaining

Do you have a jetted tub? Low lights, lavender bath salts, and jets work wonders for my headaches.
I have also had horrible headaches. This is surely doctor specific but I was there this week and asked about them and he said I am ok to take an excedrine which made me feel 100x better. Said not near the end but for now it was ok occasionally.
@mcvgal First, I hope that family endured their hard times. Second, a hospital here in Chicago sells gently used car seats for $30! If you all want to save a little money I would advise looking into places in your area.
Glad to know that that pain is round ligament pain... I have been wondering. I've been having those headaches too.. I've gone to bed around 8 twice this week because of them.. nothing really helps for me but a dark room and a warm wash cloth.
At this point in my pregnancy with my daughter we'd painted her room and were in love with the name we'd picked for her. I was so excited to plan a nursery, keep a pregnancy journal, and get stuff ready for her etc. This time around, I have no interest in any of it and I'm finding that to be really strange. It's like I want to do stuff, but then I try and I'm not at all into it. This will definitely be our last pregnancy so I was hoping to soak it all up, but I haven't been doing anything special and even when my DH offers, I don't want to. Even on other things that aren't pregnancy related, I don't feel like myself. I am boring my sweet DD to death bc I don't feel like doing much, and my mom asked for me to make a Christmas list but I just can't get into the mood either. I don't like feeling this way. Anybody else feeling like this? Surely it's all the hormones but I hope it passes soon.
@Jkp7749 , I totally feel you. I have zero ambition to do anything either. I want to do stuff, then when it comes down to doing it, I'm just like nahhhhh. Then I feel bad because my husband hasn't forced me to get a job since I finished clinicals at the beginning of October, so I pretty much sit around the house and nap, ignoring the stuff I NEED to do for school. I hope it passes soon so I can feel like a productive member of society once again!
Does anyone else feel cold all the time? I know it's getting colder, it's the season, but I am cold ALL THE TIME. It might be due to the fact that I lost weight during first trimester. Who knows. I'd like to have tips in case any of you had or has the same problem. And oh, we don't have heating where I live (it doesn't help).
Second time + mommas with kid birthday party throwing/attending experience: do you think paty favors are necessary for a one year old's birthday party? It's going to be 99% family. Kids in are aged: a newborn, a 1 year old (besides my son), two 2 year olds, a 4 year old, and 2 8 year olds. If you think they are necessary- any ideas that aren't candy/sugary or just junk for the parents to throw away?

@auro_c I've been cold all the time too. The only time I remember this happening last time was with DD1 right around the time I found out I was anemic... so I'll be asking my doctor at my next visit for sure.
@kayemjay2 I have never done Party favors for our girls birthday parties when they are mostly family! Especially with such a wide range of ages! I'll wait for party favors when I start having to plan birthday parties and inviting friends from school!

@h&pmomma - Thanks! I haven't been to that many kids' parties, so I wasn't sure if that would be a huge faux-pas. I don't think any of my guests would be super offended. My goal is to keep this party as low key and inexpensive as possible while still being fun and having the necessities

I'm a fan of sugar cookie favors. You could decorate them to look like dog bones.
@tenfour - That's a good idea. The party is dog themed, so maybe books about dogs for the different ages? Thanks!
Books are a great idea! We did bubbles, foam animal masks, and coloring books for my son's 2nd birthday. It was nice because the kids could play with them at the party to keep themselves entertained while the adults chatted and they were totally disposable once done with them.
Does anyone have advice for sciatic pain? I think @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot suggested putting a tennis ball under the butt cheek on the side that hurts, but I couldn't seem to get that to help. I was going to ask my OBGYN at my visit today, but forgot, of course. It's just pretty bad at this point. It twinges when I walk, and I have to roll around weirdly or push myself out of certain positions. I figured I'd check with you ladies before calling the office for advice.
@Kipperoo I usually check these boards on my phone app, which doesn't show any tickers or signatures. I'm on the computer this time, and your "My baby is the size of an 8 oz filet mignon" made me laugh out loud. It also made me want steak (which I haven't eaten in over 10 years, so that's saying something).
@NurseK2016 I'm 12w1d and my headaches have gotten outdoor of control. Yesterday my doc said typically gets worse around this time but should only b a quick couple weeks. He said 1 1/2 gallons of water a day, caffeine, and Tylenol only.
@starphish18 - That makes sense in my case. My nausea is almost completely gone. Now the intense headaches have started. They weren't this bad when I went off caffeine.

This may be a silly question, but is a jetted tub safe while pregnant? I swear I remember reading something a long time ago that pregnant women should avoid that. Maybe it was in the third trimester?

You're just not supposed to be in extreme temperatures like a hot tub. You can control your water temp in your own jetted tub.
