Randoms and Questions 11.7-11.13

What's going on with everyone? I busted out some full panel maternity pants on Friday and I am so glad that I can wear buffet pants to Thanksgiving dinner with no worries.

Re: Randoms and Questions 11.7-11.13

  • I have my 12 week appointment today and I need to have a serious talk about pain intervention.  I have felt miserable the last couple of days with migraines and side/back pain.  I've hit a point where a coke and heating pad aren't fixing it and I have an acetaminophen allergy.

Thanks, at this point I'm just hoping the back and side pain aren't from a kidney stone.  I don't even know how they would diagnose that during pregnancy.

  • I was just wondering if anyone has tried or will try the baking soda gender test?

    https://www.whattoexpect.com/wom/pregnancy/the-baking-soda-gender-test.aspx

"If the combination fizzes, like a soft drink that has been shaken up, then you are having a boy. On the other hand if there is no reaction at all from the baking soda and urine, you're having a girl."

My combination fizzed up meaning I'm having a boy.

This Sunday I will have my 3D US at First Peek Ultrasound, we'll see what they say or think. haha

  • @chickyclg With my first I did not have kidney stones, but had horrible on the right side. It ended up being a kindey infection. They were able to treat it with and antibiotic. I hope you aren't going through anything like that but hopefully you get the answers and help you need.

  • @mcvgal, were they able to diagnose a kidney infection with the regular urine sample that you give?  I've been wondering if this could be some nasty type of UTI too.

  • @CarmCeG - I have a friend who INSISTS this test is accurate. Although I don't fully believe her, I'm not going to act like I'm above trying it. Between ovulation tests, pregnancy tests, and doctor's visits, I'm not grossed out by urine and am a champion at peeing in a cup.

@bacorrea - Yes! I am so excited to not be subjected to endless political ads when I watch the morning news! As for the election, I'm excited and also more terrified than I have ever been for the results. While I am staunchly, 100% in favor of one candidate and will be thrilled if (s)he wins...I am concerned by the other side's reaction if that candidate wins.

  • @chickyclg, yes they were able to diagnose it with a urine sample. I went into the ER because the pain was so intense and non stop, I had no idea if it was early labor or what. They checked vitals, but I never remember them drawing any bloodwork during that visit.

    That would be so awful.

  • I am so ready for second trimester energy. I feel like such a sloth these days, but I am exhausted ALL THE TIME. @mcvgal - I'm with you on buffet pants! I pulled down my box of maternity clothes this weekend, planning on washing them. I napped, instead, but I'm going to get everything clean this week and then am going to kiss regular clothes buh-bye just in time for the turkey!

  • @ChristinaWild yes!  I cannot wait for 2nd tri energy.  DH went out with friends for a few hours yesterday afternoon and DS didn't nap and I could not function.  I basically sat on the couch while he (DS) wrecked havoc on the house.  I felt like a terrible mom and was really annoyed because the house was a mess and I couldn't make my self do anything about it.  I am so ready to have some energy again!

@bacorrea - I really really hope it doesn't turn into that. I cannot even fathom the majority of voters voting for that man. Plus he would never concede and it'd turn into a total nightmare.
I don't want to start a political argument, but I'm right there with you! I don't understand how he has more than 10% of the vote. Like, I actually can't rationalize it in my head. I am a democrat and have always sided with democrats because they are most aligned with my life choices and beliefs. But at least in previous elections, I've been able to rationalize why someone would vote for the republican candidate. Not so much this go around.

I don't have much to add to this week's randoms thread. Totally unrelated, but haunting my thoughts from the weekend--I had a massive dinner party/house full of guests over the weekend and got SUPER sick (like throwing up 3 times) right after dinner. I was really worried it was food poisoning, but everyone else seems just fine which is a huge relief. That said, immediately after getting sick, I came downstairs and told DH that I couldn't look at the food/clean it up and so he would have to. Yet, guess who ended up cleaning it up? ME. Of course. And I'm STILL pissed about it (and he knows it).

Not being able to deal with the pain is THE WORST. I'm sorry and I hope you get some answers at your appointment! I had a migraine for 3 days last week and couldn't take anything stronger than Tylenol because of the other medication I'm on. It was miserable and made the days feel incredibly long. :-(

  • She was pretty sure the pain I am having is a kidney stone and since I became septic the last time I had kidney stones, she is starting me on a daily antibiotic that I will continue throughout pregnancy. For the pain she gave me Tylenol with Codeine and I will take that after Zofran because of my Acetaminophen issues. If I start running fever or throwing up she is going to have me admitted.

  • I'm sorry it's looking like a kidney stone @chickyclg.  But I'm glad you guys have a plan in place to hopefully help manage the pain and treat any issues that may arise.
  • On a separate note, does anyone feel like they are dropping the ball left and right at work?  I am so tired I just can't function and get things done.  I even tried to work this weekend to make up for some of the stuff I've dropped over the past few weeks and I couldn't do it.  I work in an incredibly busy field and there is a ton on my plate and I just feel like I'm failing because I can't get more than a fraction of it done.  I guess this is more of an AW post than a question, but if anyone is experiencing the same thing I'd love to hear I'm not alone.  And if anyone has any coping skills to deal with utter exhaustion, I'd love to hear those as well.
  • I agree with everyone about the exhaustion. I had a wedding Saturday and a bridal shower Sunday and I couldn't function. I luckily get tomorrow off as a county employee so I can recharge.

@RainyDays86 it's not so much about dropping the ball for me, but more so about IDGAF about much lately. The fact that I have three months off starting in late May is getting me through all the bullshit at my job.

My non-pregnancy related comment is that I live in the country, and often see deer while driving. I officially hit (side swiped) my first deer. I feel so guilty about it because I was slightly distracted with my cell phone (please save me the commentary of the dangers of distracted driving). I feel like a horrible human being, having potentially killed a deer. I'm lucky that there is no damage to my car, just the psychological damage of being a deer murderer.
  • @jenshoes I have family in the auto repair industry. Deer are surprisingly resilient.  He likely lived to tell the tale.

  • I'm there with you @RainyDays86 and @Jenshoes. I have trouble focusing and have to keep my IDGAF attitude in check. I used to have no problem working a couple hours late to meet a deadline, but that's not something I'm willing to do now with "evening sickness" setting in at 4 pm on the dot. I've been delegating a lot more and just kind of going by the motto "fake it 'til ya make it." We'll see how well all that has been working at my annual performance review in a couple weeks. I'm terrified.

  • @RainyDays86 @Jenshoes @cclaineDC I'm so with you ladies! I'm a grad student and still work and I just feel like nothing I do is close to 100% anymore. I'm forgetting deadlines left and right and just generally doing the bare minimum. I'm hoping second tri energy burst helps! You're not alone and I refuse to believe that we're lazy. • @RainyDays86 and everyone else with no work motivation - I'm in the same boat. I'm fortunate in that I can set my own hours, to an extent (as long as I'm still getting the necessities done). So right now, I'm choosing to work around 30 hours a week, instead of 40. That definitely helps. For me, I'm just so exhausted and feel so awful that I can't make it a full day. I had to train a new employee today (which involved 4 hours of walking dogs), and I came home and literally plopped face down on the carpet for 10 minutes. I'm looking forward to this 2nd trimester relief everyone keeps talking about.

@jenshoes I'm sorry you hit a deer! That must have been really scary.
  • @nda_roxybabe I reorganized my entire basement when I was pregnant with DS. It was a big open space with boxes and other crap covering the entire floor and I bought and built shelves and picked everything up off the floor and reorganized it on the shelves. I think I had some cramps/contractions during but was totally fine. My OB at the time told me that you really can do a lot, even lifting, and it's fine.
  • @RainyDays86 Thank you for the reassurance. I have to remind myself that things just feel different too, doesn't always mean its bad. In related news, stomach feels much better now, yay!

  • @RainyDays86 @Jenshoes @cclaineDC - completely on board with the work issues. IDGAF about any of it. It doesn't help that part of my job requires me to monitor emails and answer my cell after hours. For the last 2 weeks, I've gotten a call every single night as we're trying to get DS down for bed. It's making me homicidal. I vaguely remember having a period like this while pregnant with DS, but I don't remember it being this early.

Anyone have a crystal ball that could clue us in on some winning lotto numbers so we don't have to deal with work anymore?

  • I'm on the IDGAF struggle bus too. And exhausted most of the time. Also, DH and I have done the deed once since I got pregnant. I'm halfway between feeling bad and just not. I have zero drive. He understands but I know I need to step it up a bit. Tomorrow is his birthday so it may be his lucky day.

I have a random rant. My AW of a MIL actually had the gall to stand up in church and announce our pregnancy on Sunday. None of my extended family knows. I'm just 12 weeks today. We don't go to the same church but my DH grew up going there and we got married there, so we know everyone and we're from a small town. She hardly spends any time with DS, her current only grandchild. She just wants the attention and I'm over her crap.

  • UGH...add another passenger to the IDGAF bus. I'm having the hardest time staying focused on anything at work. I spent yesterday looking at baby names and ideas for the nursery...or just staring blankly at the computer screen. The last couple of weeks have been super busy at work and I find myself resenting it more and more. And yet, I still like coming into work because it means I have a break from the toddler and some time to just sit...which makes me feel extra guilty for enjoying the time away from him.

  • Speaking of nursery ideas... So we have been team green every time before and plan to do so again this time. For DS2 the nursery was painted like a sky blue and I decorated with a colorful under the sea theme. I did not plan on changing anything for this LO, because that theme was a team green design anyway. Now DH wants to paint the room because he has a feeling this one is a girl. I told him the sky blue is still fine, but I would decorate differently just so that this baby has something new. Well he is still insisting on painting the room once we find out the sex (at birth!)  I am still trying to get DH to do some other updates to the house (since we moved in 3 years ago). I don't think he will be able to paint a room within the 4-5 days we are still in the hospital.
