Still off and on they are more painful but less often I have an ultrasound in the morning and if it's still happening I'll just go up to L&D right after I'm 36 weeks tomorrow so if it's still stage one they will deliver at this point in Collingwood. Baby freaks out with every contraction or BH what ever they are. Basically I have not slept in 2 days other than naps on and off today while other 6 kids were at Great Grandma's
I have a question about contractions. So I've been having BH for months now - the lower abdomen, or sometimes all of it, tenses up and gets hard. It doesn't hurt. I've also had Period-like cramping, both localized to my lower abdomen and spreading around to my back and butthole (this is a normal feeling for me during my period). The back cramps are new and kind of painful. Is this just a result of various "normal" aches and pains, or is a BH plus Period-like pain a true contraction? I guess I assumed the "pain" during a contraction would be more like a hard muscular workout, not like an intense period but I realize I have NO IDEA - help!
@books&icecream with my first I kept waiting for the "real" contractions to start, because mine felt like period cramps. I was cramping in my upper thighs and vag area, but almost nothing upper abdominal so I didn't count them. Well turns out they were contractions after all! I think if they are painful then count them as contractions, no matter where the pain is located (but someone please correct me if I'm way off base).
Congrats @MrsB627 I hope everyone is doing well and settling in!!
@books&icecream ugh isn't this ridiculous? I am so uncomfortable and have so many aches and pains in my abdomen, back, butt, etc. I can't figure out what's happening most of the time anymore. SO over it!
My normal BH contractions/false labor contractions would just tighten my whole belly and be slightly uncomfortable. Then I would sometimes get period-like cramps in my back/belly/thighs that did not tighten my belly like other contractions. NOW I think my contractions are real because they tighten like BH/false labor AND cause the period cramp in my lower abdomen and back.
However, I *think* you'll only really feel contractions in your back if you are having back labor from the babes being sunny side up.
This may be a dumb question, but everywhere I go I think what I would do if m my water broke. If I'm at work and my water breaks, do I drive myself home or do I call DH to come get me?? And who cleans it up??

@ibabyloveb87 lol I've thought of that too! I was at my friend's house yesterday for my work shower and I said a secret prayer that my water didn't break in her very carpeted house (and it didn't!) but still....also I'm kinda scared to wear pants now because if my water breaks while wearing pants, I get to travel in wet clothes
LOL omg too funny @ibabyloveb87 ... I was literally just having this conversation with my supervisor! I would freak if it happened here at work, I would one, have to be taken by ambulance, which I'm not too happy about and two I would mortified! I work in Facilities at my job and I know the cleaning staff very well and I would be so embarrassed that they would have to clean up after me and my moving team would have to provide me with a new chair if it happens at my desk. I really hope it happens when I'm home.... actually full out praying it does!!

@sportiegrl1213 but if it happens at home, you'd have to come home to a puddle. Oh wait that's right you have a kick ass support system that would have it all cleaned up for you!! *continues to throw popcorn at you!!!*
ETA - I would hate to see how my animals would turn a puddle into a whole house mess if I wasn't able to clean it before going to the hospital
@LauraPCOS@sportiegrl1213 I am pretty sure our office cleaning lady doesn't do anything except take out the trash, so maybe I need to bring a couple of towels to sit on at work!

For me contractions ate my entire abdomen tightening I can touch my bump and not be able to poke it. It feels like a period cramp but makes my whole body numb or hurt I can feel them coming it starts off like a dull ache and gets more and more painful till all I can do is close my eyes and breath if I'm walking I have to stop if I'm talking I can't fishing the sentence.
Yea I was just talking to DH about this over the weekend, like what would I do if I went into labor at work, and we didn't really come to any conclusions other than it would depend how bad/ often my contractions were if I could drive home or not before heading to the hospital (im only 15 mins from home) It seems rare for your water to full on gush out, most people I know have just had a trickle or nothing at all, but everyone's different so never know!
@kmyers228 I only had one friend where her water broke and she gushed, but she was lucky cause it happened at 5 in the morning so she was at home. Granted her gushing could be because she was in bed and then got up thinking she had diarrhea cramps, went to the bathroom and on her way back had the gush.
@LauraPCOS I'm truly hoping it's not that bad no matter where it happens. Hope it's not like the movies when it gushes out. LOL. I have my bed already prepared in case it happens in the middle of the night. I have bed pads under our sheets, we have a memory foam mattress, I'm afraid to ruin that too. Ugh this is nuts!!!

My first baby it dribbled out so slow I just thought it was pee. All of my friends with their babies had small little leaks and made it to the toilet where it finished, or they were already in the hospital and the baby was almost coming out.

I was thinking about that yesterday at church, what if it happens there, should I stand up and say "excuse me, my water just broke, but please continue...." or if it happens at work, I will be here until the end of the month... would I be able to walk down the stairs?.... What if it's on Walmart and I am alone....
I really think that my DH will faint when I say the magic words "It's time"....
When my water broke it gushed... multiple times and since baby was breech there was no head there to plug it. It was gross. I mostly just had one big gush at home and most of it was in the bathroom- my MIL cleaned it the next day! I wore a sports bra, tank top and underwear with a huge pad with a towel wrapped around my waist to the hospital bc my contractions were so strong and so close. The pad was useless- I left a trail of fluid behind me all the way up to labor and delivery- and almost flooded the bathroom once I was in labor and delivery- thank god for floor drains.
I had bad back labor- so I think having a breech baby can give you bad back labor too.

Haha we had a scare a while back and had to go to the hospital at 2am...DH was so flustered, he forgot his shoes!!!! Luckily we stopped at a gas station 10 minutes away and he realized, otherwise we would have driven an hour to the hospital, and he would have gone in with bare feet? We drove back home and got him his shoes hahaha, but now I have an extra pair in my car juuuuust in case

I gushed too, but like you, I was in the bathroom at home. My husband cleaned it up before we left. It was 11 pm when we got to the hospital, so we had to go in at the emergency room entrance and be taken up to the birth center. They asked if I needed a wheelchair. I was like "I can walk." *Gush*. "Um, I'll take the wheelchair, thanks." My contractions were fast and furious too, so maybe that has something to do with it.

what?! Cleaning up amniotic fluid isn't in her contract? Lame!
My coworkers keep saying if my water breaks at work they'll just toss me in a wheelchair and take me down the hall to l&d.. I was like nope, I'm heading home to get my stuff and let contractions start there. You'll pretend you never saw me! but, my water has never broken on its own, so I'm not counting on it happening this time either!

I keep forgetting to worry about my water breaking! Because, with DH, they broke it for me in the hospital when I was stuck at around 9 cm.
I do know that if it breaks at work, I'll most definitely be going home first. I am not in a rush to get to the hospital. I actually need to ask my doc tomorrow when I need to come in after my water breaks. I know it's more urgently than if I'm just having contractions.
With DS I labored at home for about 12-14 hours before going in. I was still only 6.5 cm dilated when we arrived. I know every labor/delivery is different, so I'll try not to be dangerous about it. Ain't nobody got time to have a baby in the car.
I was doing dishes and had the wet mark around my belly from the dish water so I went to my husband and said "look my water broke" he jumped and turned to me and I pointed to my shirt and was all "cause that's where it comes out of right?? (Referring to my belly button)" he knew I was joking but the scowl he gave me LOL
On the subject of fluid ... When my OB broke my water for DD, I was about 24 hours into my induction. I got an epidural in the hope it would help me relax, and my doc decided to break my water immediately after it was placed. Well, she should have waited till they also placed my catheter ... Because she got a gush of amniotic fluid AND a decent squirt of urine. I couldn't feel a thing so I didn't know I was peeing on her! Thankfully, we were all able to have a good laugh about it.
One girl I know had a huge gush and was stuck in her bathroom for an hour in the bathtub. She changed clothes and went to the hospital and her pants were soaked.
My coworker told me his wife's water broke while she was at work. She had been wearing depends to work her final week. She stayed another hour to tie up some loose ends before making the trip home. I said she was crazy.
There is a reason this week is my last week in the office and I'm working from home the rest of the time. I do not want to chance that!

Same. I'm working from home until I deliver starting on Thursday. I'm not as worried about my water breaking at work as I am about contractions starting and not being able to drive myself home or to the hospital. I would HATE to be stuck at the office while contracting and waiting for H to come and get me!

Ok I have a stupid question. How far apart are contractions usually when they first start? I know I'm supposed to call the dr when they're 5 min apart, and usually my BH are between 5-10 min apart which got me wondering. I assume I would be laboring for a pretty long time before getting to 5 min? I've been assuming that because my contractions start out at 6-7 min apart I can easily chalk it up to BH but that could be totally wrong of me. I think I read somewhere that real contractions start around 15 min apart or so? Just wondering what others have experienced or read.
