Names!

Re: Names!

  • Our long standing boy name has been John Henrik. Now that it's been confirmed we are having a boy we decided on John Morgan. John after my husband and Morgan is my maiden name. Morgan is also my middle name, I never was given one  so when I married my husband I gave myself Morgan as a middle name :)

  • @KareM Aubrey Anne is cute. My niece goes my Bree, and it is a sweet name.
  • I was just thinking earlier today "I miss the names thread" haha... we actually started trying to narrow down some options last night, DH & I each came up with a list of 10 boy names... We don't have any we're really really in love with though, so idk how many options we'll go through between now and March but right now our top contenders are Cooper, Elijah, Chase, Austin, Cody, and Easton. Girls names were SO much easier for us to decide on!

  • @kjd291 Love the name choice. Classic to where the name won't date her.
Since we're team green we have to come up 2 names. Totally lost on a boy's name. I'm all about classic but not boring and need something that goes with big brother, Oliver. For a girl I like Layla, but not in love with it. Also like Maya, but not sure if we'd spell it Maya, Maia, or Mya. Also not 100% sold on it though. This is hard!

Boy names are SO HARD! But luckily after two boys we are having a girl. I've always planned on and wanted Evelyn, NN "Evie" But we have friend who names their daughter Everly and the little brother calls her "heavy"... And it bothers me sooo much! So I am trying really hard to come up with a different name I love.. It's harder than I thought.

I like Elia. NN "Ellie". I like E names. And I'm trying to think of an L name I like because our last name starts with L and I like the idea of the double LL.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Help! Haha
  • @kiyamurph i love the name Maya!  I personally would vote for that spelling, just because the other ones seem more easily mispronounced (Mya looks like it could be "Mia" to me, so I imagine it could look like that to others).  I love the name Oliver, but I'm totally SOL on boy names so I can't help you with coming up with any more...
  • I've been thinking about Eden for a girl lately. Crazy? Edie is a cute nickname. I want to use a family name, Janetta, as a middle name, so EJ is another potential nickname. I have no ideas for a boy, so of course that's what we'll get.

Eden is my favorite girl name EVER and DD would have been Eden if DH hadn't vetoed it. He thinks it goes horribly with our last name because it conjures an image. I can't really explain that without giving away our last name itself but I kind of see his point...kind of. It's not really that bad. But yeah, I think that name is absolutely beautiful!

  • I was also thinking recently that I missed the name thread! :)
We are team green but our top contenders are:

Boy: William Isaac, William Arjan (FILs name), John (my grandpas name) though not sold on any middle names for that...we like middle names to be after a family member but we don't have great options...

Girl: Eleanor (Ellie) Elisabeth (MILs name), or Hannah Elisabeth

  • We are having a boy and previously I posted I liked Tyler James but now I'm thinking about Max (not sure of mn yet)  DH says we have to have a proper name like Maximus or maximillian or maxwell then shorten it to max. I don't like any of those just max lol. Thoughts on this?

@C25 I love the name Evelyn!

  • I love all of the ideas here. We just found out that she is a girl and we are leaning towards "Rosalie". I am not sure about middle names though. We have all "a" middle names for our girls. We have Averie, Arabella and Abigail so far and are trying to find a goodie to go with Rosalie.
  • @korpisar I absolutely love "Max" names. That was going to be our boy name this time. I prefer Maxwell then Maximus and then Maximillian, personally.
  • @korpisar I don't think that you need to go with a maxwell.  Max on its own is great!  IMO I think if you're going to call a kid by the shortened name only, there's really no need to legally name them the longer version if you never use it. it's not like Max is a nickname-it clearly stands fine on its own!
  • @kjd291 that's what I was thinking but DH is pretty insistent. Thanks for your input ladies!

I would choose maxwell out of all those. Middle name..... Maxwell James?
  • I love all of the names you guys are thinking about! We won't know for another four weeks which team we're on, so I haven't pushed DH too hard into talking about names. We were stuck on a car ride last week and narrowed down a few, we have trouble agreeing on any. Still thinking Juliette/Julietta Jean for a girl, but DH also likes Eliza and Tessa. For a boy we're throwing around Tiberius (Ty), Elias, Gideon, but I'm not crazy about anything but Dashiell (Dash), which DH doesn't like. Sigh.

  • @korpisar I like that and it's really different from my other girls' names.
Oh and if DH would go with just "Max", I would! I love it. Like I love Jack or Liam; those have a similar feeling to Max alone.
  • @datalover13 I adore the name Tessa! It's been one of my favorites for years, but DH doesn't like it.
  • If it's a boy we are sure on a name..Alister Robert

For a girl..oy...we were thinking Riley Irene but I am falling out of love with Riley. I'd like something that can go a little more formal and that isn't gaining so much popularity. Irene is definitely the middle name and our last name rhymes with Shannon. Right now I'm liking Bernadette, Anastasia, Scarlett, Layla, Fiona, Angela and Margaret. I really like Alice too but I don't think it goes well with our last name. Definitely open to suggestions :)
  • @kiyamurph some suggestions for a boy:

    Jasper
    Samuel
    Harrison
    Elliot
    Simon
    Lucas/Luke
    Peter
    Tobias/Toby
    Harold
    Emmett
    August

  • @kjd291 I saw that you are team pink (congrats!) and I was wondering if we'd see an updated names post, since I remembered we both liked Theodore for boys. I love the name Catherine Rose. Did you have other names on your short list (just curious)?

My DH is really pushing for Arthur, though, and I think I like it! I didn't at first, but it has grown on me tremendously in the past couple of weeks. I also like that it is not skyrocketing in popularity (like Theodore seems to be). So this LO may be Arthur Philip.

  • @Faith1318 Arthur Phillip is a nice strong name!  We still have Theodore on the side burner in case the baby shows up with boy bits ;) part of me wouldn't be surprised at all.  At the ultrasound--the tech didn't seem very confident in the sex.

Our other top choice is still Natalie Rose.  So we'll probably flip-flop back and forth between that and Catherine for the next 5 months
  • @Faith1318 I love Arthur! It'll be adorable on a toddler and suitable for an adult.

@Gators&BoSox Thank you! I think I'm still a little insecure about what others will think of our choice (probably because my initial opinion was not a positive one), so any and all validation is welcome!  :)

  • @kjd291 Natalie was always on my short list but DH vetoed it. Catherine/Katherine we both love, but it was "taken" by a niece before we could use it.  :)

  • Team blue over here, so we are most likely going with William "Liam" Alexander (William is a family name and we just liked the MN Alexander to go with it). The only issue we are worried about right now is that Liam is one of the top names right now, and we aren't sure we want to do a super popular name.

  • @Gators&BoSox Thanks for the suggestions! Out of all of those I like Samuel the most. If we have a girl, Viola is still my top name choice but my husband's not a fan, which makes me sad. I think it goes perfectly with Oliver.
  • Wow @Gators&BoSox that list of boy names is very close to mine! We are having a boy, and Harrison is topping our list right now. Today we were talking and DH really wants me to incorporate a name from my family somehow if we can. Our last name is one syllable Irish, and my family is Italian. I have a very close uncle named Stanley, which was also my grandfathers name. At first I thought Stanley would NEVER work, but as we were putting names together today, we thought Harrison Stanley is actually a nice name. Kinda quirky, and meaningful. DH lost his uncle, who was named Harry, - few years ago. So LO would be "Harry" or DH loves "hank". I'm not sure about hank but we will see if it grows on me....

DH also likes Oscar, which I actually do like.. but letting it sort of toss around for a while.

If we had a girl, Marlowe and Neve were topping my list. I also loved Clementine, nickname Cleo.
  • @jenny0228 i love that you found a name that works and honors so many family members. And it's a great name to boot! I try to give quirkier names on lists since everyone probably already thought of thomas, matthew, andrew etc..
  • @jenny0228 how would you pronounce Neve? Like NEEV or NEV?
  • @Cbeanz  I would pronounce it NEEV, which is close to the Irish pronunciation, I believe. The Irish name is spelled Niamh.  Some people do pronounce it NEV though, which is more Americanized. I think both are pretty.
  • @jenny0228 I really like Harrison. Not crazy on any short forms of it (which is why it's not on our list) but love Harrison.
  • I like the name Alaia but worried people won't know how to pronounce it.
  • I like the name Alaia but worried people won't know how to pronounce it.
Yeah. I don't know how to pronounce it.  How is it meant to be?

What if you went with a different spelling? Like Aliah??
  • @kjd291 I would rather go with original spelling but thanks for the input
