Re: Baby Names

  • @LaceyRae25 I actually love the name Laikynn .. when we bought our house our buyer's agents name was Laiken it was the first time I heard it and she was super sweet so that probably didn't hurt either.  I do prefer the spelling Laiken though.. simply because I always hated how double Ns or Ms looked in cursive... Weird I know.

@jennielynn+ I know we've talked about the Geoffrey thing but.. yes no one ever gets Geoffrey right. Ever.

  • @jennielynn+ That's how I feel about ds name, Douglas. I love partly since its a name from my side of the family but its so old I don't know anyone but grandpa aged men with it.
@How funny! Dh loves the Laikynn spelling because he likes the way cursive y's look.

  • That is funny.. my real name had double Ns in it and I probably wouldn't notice if it didn't. Either way I love the name  ;)

  • @McFarKane I don't see a problem with it. When I got married my first name ended with the first letter of my married last name and while sometimes I don't like it, it doesn't bother me. Middle name is even less of an issue. I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's nice. And yeah--I'm not telling anyone the name we've kinda picked for that reason. Sorry people are being stupid about it.

  • @McFarKane I agree with @HGRich. I understand the "pressure" to come up with a perfect name, but for the life of me can not understand why people put so much stock into a middle name. Its rarely ever used IRL.

  • Double L's wouldn't bother me. Sometimes first and middle names sound like the same name but if you know they are separate then it's not a huge deal.

  • @McFarKane Growing up I had a first name ending with "e" and middle name starting with "e". I didn't really like my middle name but it had nothing to do with that.  I mean, it did kinda flow into one long name when my mom used both names (only when she was pissed - ha!), but if it's the name you love I wouldn't let it stop you from using it.  I have no idea why people have such strong opinions about this - I lived to tell the tale! :)

  • I don't mind first and middle names not "flowing". First and last are much more important together.

My current naming dilemma is my husband's continued failure to run our middle name choice past his dad. DS has my dad's name as a middle, so we want DS2 to have the other grandpa's name. However, that grandpa is named after his dad, who abandoned him to foster care. So...we just want to make sure he's ok with it. All DH has to do is pick up the phone.

  • @alliesb19 My niece is Micah Kathryn, but they call her Micah Kate. If you would prefer to go with Catherine for a specific reason, you can always just call her Emerson Kate.

  • DH and I haven't yet picked a first name. Our top picks are Benjamin, Ronen and Jacob. I like Benjamin and Ronen best. It's so hard! I guess we'll probably wait until he's born to decide on which one.

  • We have stopped even talking about names a while ago. DDs suggestion of Walker is kind of growing on me..Not sure if I actually really like it or if we've referred to him as Walker so much that it just feels funny to call him anything else. Anyone have an opinion on the name.. especially those on the FB group that know my last name (since I'm not sure it sounds right with the er at the end of both)

  • @doozenberg I think I like Benjamin the best.. followed by Ronen there are so many Jacobs where I live (2 in my daughter's preschool and there are only like 12 boys!)  Otherwise Jacob would be my favorite..

I never thought of it matched with your last name...
Hmm... I say, if you like the name, go for it. There has to be people out in the world that have matchy rhymey names, and they get by just fine.

Hahaha!!!! Come to think of it my first name and maiden last name (that I had for the first 25 years of my life) both end in the "in" sound.

  • @HappyAnjel, thanks for the reply! It's hard to decide. I think I like it a bit better too as the short form ben is nice. I agree with the popularity of Jacob, that's why if fell to third. I kind of like Walker too. Not something that I would have thought of on my own, but now that I hear it, I like it.

  • @happyanjel I spent the first 24 years of my life with -er and -er. First and last. I'm not sure I really thought about it. I think if anything it bothered me when I got older and got into fixed form poetry and I didn't like that they had the same meter. Haha. But I was weird about that.

  • OH HAHAHAHA Miles is our #2 on the list. We always joke about Miles/Kilometers. Especially since i'm from Europe LOL

I really don't understand why people think they need to voice their opinion on naming a child that is NOT theirs... My mom is also like that. We like the name Hayden and will probably go with it. But you should have seem my mom's face. "What, what kind of a name is that, I have never heard of it" blabalbal. Well we are not from here so there will be lots of names that she hasn't heard of. For some reason she thinks we should take her opinion in consideration. She had suggested some names and when I said I didnt like them, SHE got offended. LOL
So to all of you struggling with the same bologna, don't let it bother you.

But I think we are most likely going to go with Hayden Andrew (Andrew for DHs cousin who tragically died in a car crash this past October)
We said we'd wait until our boy is born and see which name fits him better until we officially announce it :)

I just can't wait to start seeing some birth and name announcements. We are so close!! :)

  • Thanks Ladies, I don't think I would have thought twice about them both ending in er if it wasn't for my husband mentioning it about another name when I was reading a list off to him (before we stopped talking about names) I really just can't think of ANYTHING, and we've had a lot more positive opinions of Walker than I ever would have imagined. As @doozenberg said it's totally not something I ever would have thought to use on my own. It's been growing on me since my daughter has been telling everyone that's his name since before we even knew it was a boy!

I prefer Weston personally because I think Wes is a good nickname.  Is there a meaning behind the directional nature of the names? Because if so, I'd take that into consideration of what means more to you.

  • We are thinking about using Emerson for our baby girl's name but I know some people dislike it for a girl because they say it is too masculine and means "Emery's Son"...and I don't think we would change it to Emersyn. What do people think about this name for a girl?
    BabyBlake042017jennielynn+
  •
  • @Linny40 I know someone due in the next couple of weeks naming her baby girl Emersyn. I like it! Emerson is actually on my short list for boys, but recently I have been questioning it because so many people now use it as a girl's name.
    KirstinH88BabyBlake042017
  • @linny40 I think whenever I see "son" in a name, I think "masculine," personally. Emersyn is a nice compromise, though NMS.
