Every few weeks I'll have a couple days in a row where I very specifically feel like things are really turned up on the pregnancy front. I'll be especially moody, either ravenous or nauseous, fatigue will amp up like crazy, I'll just feel like crap. It's like all the symptoms turn up a level. Does any one else experience these little pregnancy bursts?
Yes that was me yesterday. I had to get out and away from my family and while I was out I texted Hubby about how miserable I was and how he had no idea how awful being pregnant is.
Yup. It's when LO is having a growth spurt of some kind. Then you pour on the hormones so they get what's needed. While I understand why it happens, I always feel horrible and apologize for every word out of my mouth those days.

Yep. This has been me these last few days. I've cried and screamed more than I have ever before. I feel drained and fatigued. On top of that, I think I may have a sinus infection and ear infection.
I'm on board with this. I am so apathetically unenergized. This whole past week I had no will to get up and do anything - no laundry, no cleaning, no organizing, no exercising. I didn't even want to read. I was just one with the couch. On top of that I kept sweating and smelling - so gross. One particular day I had to go to the bathroom multiple times and wash off and change clothes to stop disgusting myself. Not to mention no tolerance for anyone. I'm not a confrontational person, usually pretty passive. Not lately. I have so much sass for everyone. I'd be on the phone with someone and they'd be like "oh, I can't hear you." I'd hang up. Call me back when you have service, I can't deal with repeating myself.
I'm going to have to do something nice to thank my loved ones (especially DH) for putting up with me lately.
Ok so that probably was def a stupid question then. I just feel like I never hear others mention having a pregnant monster day. There are days where I literally cannot remember words. Names. Nothing. Communicating is a nightmare. I think I'm coming out of this little spurt but am definitely experience a bottomless pit of a gut today. WTF. It's so different than last time. I can't wait to get this girl out of me.
@slartybartfast I forgot how to order a butterscotch sundae the other week and all I could do was cry at the 2 teenage girls working behind the counter. Like. Literally couldn't formulate the words to do it. It is happening to us all I think, and it makes me feel so useless.
Yeah, I'm definitely noticing a cycle - a few bad, moody, hungry days and then a noticeably bigger bump. It makes it a little easier to tell myself it's a growth spurt.
@BabyRobbinsAdventure I was having an off day recently, went to order a sandwich. After listening to my whole detailed order, the guy at the deli said "wait, let me write it down" and made me repeat it. I almost ugly cried at him, like "Do you know how hard this is?"
Is swelling in just one area a thing? For the past month I have had one cankle. The other ankle is normal. It's not super crazy but noticeable. I keep forgetting to ask my OB about it
Yeah I feel super moody lately...and I was doing so well! A couple weeks ago I thought, I'm out of the woods! I'm normal and peaceful! But the last few days I've been just picking fights with DH. And I'm so effing hungry and tired. It's unbelievable to me. It's like the baby has morphed with me. I'm just a giant baby.
On a good note, I found my doula today and cried with gratitude. This chick super has my back. Oh, here's a stupid question- how do you all make sure you get your 70 or more grams of protein a day? 3 cheeseburgers a day? Because I think that might become my new plan.
@SaraRose83 I've been working pretty hard in the protein thing, too. Well nutrition in general. I keep turkey jerky on hand for those days when I'm struggling to reach my goal. A bag, which is a single serving no matter what the serving size suggests, is 20g of protein. Boring, but a low fat way to fill the protein void.
Squishing baby...impossible right? Right?! If I sit with my knees up or leaning too far forward lil bubba gets pissed and kicks like crazy. Guess I ruin his comfy space. Confession...I sometimes squish him on purpose to get him to move.
@slartybartfast - the crazy fatigue always seems to hit me out of nowhere. I'll be fine for a week (or weeks) and then suddenly - bam! This weekend - I had a 1 hour nap on Friday, a 4 hour nap yesterday, and I slept like 10 hours last night.
@SaraRose83 - I didn't know 70 gm of protein a day was a thing, and there's no way I'm getting that. I do have yogurt for breakfast, which has a decent amount of protein. I often try to have beans or tofu with lunch (I usually have a salad but sometimes have soup or a burrito or taco, so it's pretty easy to add one and/or the other). Snacks with PB (rice cakes with PB, pita with PB, apple with PB). I have had a meat aversion all pregnancy, so we typically have meat at dinner (most often chicken but occasionally beef) but I can't say I really eat it all.
@tinattt23 - I have that thought a lot too. I like to sit cross legged and lean over on the couch and baby doesn't like that.
Does anyone just hate cooking now as much as I do? Before I got pregnant, I loved to cook. I would intentionally seek difficult recipes/cookbooks and go through them just because I enjoyed the challenge and learning curve. Now? I don't want to cook anything. Ever. It makes me nauseous, stresses me out, and just feels so tedious. I go in the kitchen to cook and I get all sweaty and frustrated and emotional. All I can think about is how hot I am and that I want to go sit down.
@kbduke One of my friends here is like, ready to pop, and she says that one foot/ankle will swell more than the other. So I'm guessing it's an okay thing...as long as it's not associated with pain, like what @RatsPJ said!

How do you know the difference between Braxton Hicks and a baby roll/head butt? I feel like I'm overly worried about BH and that it may not even be what I'm experiencing at all.
And...I know it's a bit far from now, but I'm deciding what I want to make for freezer meals. I've planned the meals in general, but how many is a good number to plan for and make?
I'm so glad I stumbled into this thread today, because I've really been having the extra moody/forgetful/"what the hell is wrong with me" days and I was starting to think I was just crazy. I'm so glad it is normal. I'm so thankful for you ladies!
@kbduke I've been experience this too! My right ankle/foot will get huge, while my left is just slightly puffy. I asked my dr last month about it and he had no concerns, basically told me its one of those things just varies for everyone. So as long as it's not painful hopefully you are fine!
@swhiddon33 Braxton hicks can be felt on the outside, your whole belly tightens. You can touch your abdomen and tell the difference.
@dmontgo that's kind of a loaded question. Most people don't need much newborn because 0-3 (3mos) fits from roughly 8 pounds and up. Newborn I think goes up to 10 lbs. I have 30+ 3 mo onesies, 14 pair of pants and 6 sleepers, I want at least 4 more sleepers. That's for twins. (I also have a big preemie and newborn wardrobe but most term babies won't need that).
@dmontgo I would say 6 NB onesies is enough to start...mainly cuz the baby may not fit them at all or for long. You can always buy more after you know if they fit. Also different brands fit totally different! Gerber is short and fat. Carter's is long and skinny.
All that said, when DD1 was born, I had ZERO NB clothes because everyone on DH'S side has huge babies. He's 6'6 and all of his cousins are over 6' and had 9-10 pound babies. My DD was born full term at 6 pounds 1 ounce! So she wore 0-3 month clothes in the hospital since that's all we had. We left the hospital, stopped at target on the way home, and bought 9 onesies and 3 sleepers. Stupid idea to stop on the way home right after a c section. I thought I was going to die.
Then DD ended up with horrible reflux and we would go through 5+ onesies, 12 burp rags, and 8-10 bibs a day...for 8 months. Ugh. Lots of laundry early on.
I went through all the stuff we had and started laughing...we have 15 NB onesies, 5 sleepers, 45 burp rags, and 28 bibs. OMG. She wore NB size for 2 months and 0-3 until she was 5 months old. Reflux got bad around 2 months. I also counted 0-3 month clothes and we have 40 onesies in that size. Sadly, even with those numbers, I did baby laundry 3-4 times a week.
@dmontgo also! Freezer meals! I plan on making 6 recipes and each one makes 3 or 4 dishes. Each dish is 4 servings (dinner one night plus lunch the next day).
I made 8 recipes to test out back in April and 4 were keepers and 2 I'll be modifying a bit. DH is horribly picky so I'm limited to what I can make.
I think we should start a thread for freezer meals recipes to share!
@DiFazette That gives me a good starting point--basically get half of what you've mentioned. I've received a couple of onesies (newborn size) and 2 sleepers, but I'm slowly getting pieces here and there for 3-6months and a few 6-9 months for him to grow into. Otherwise he has no clothes. I have time, but I can cruise sales as the come up. Really been liking Carter's clothes. Thanks!
Meant to include 0-3 months too. These month scales...
A more legit stupid question: I haven't colored my hair in like 3 years and the last time I did I was just going back to my natural hair color. I want to color it a little bit warmer and darker for fall. Am I good now to color my hair? Do I need to let my colorist know I'm pregnant? How does that work now? Should I just wait til after I have the baby to do anything to it?
@sourlemon Thanks for the info! Seems like it can be hard to tell until the baby gets here, which drives me crazy because I like to be prepared lol. But it gives me an idea at least of where I should start or aim for. I hope I get some more clothes at the next baby shower.
AND YES, we need a freezer meals thread. I'm picky with what I'll freeze and eat so ideas are always helpful. I'm trying to stretch the meals as well. I mostly have dinner figured out--wondering if dinner is all I need to worry about and just get frozen biscuits, waffles, and cereal for breakfast. Glad I'm planning this now!
@dmontgo don't go too crazy one clothes until after all your showers. I lol'ed at that and bought what I wanted at yard sales. Now I have probably 200+ onesies from NB -6mo. It's ridiculous and all my fault. But I now have lots of generic ones that will hopefully for Em. @ashleaf2018 you should be good to color your hair. Just tell the people when you schedule. They should know what will work and what won't. @sourlemon we did have a thread 1-2 weeks ago about starting freezer meals. I highly suggest pintrest as a starting place for recipes if you don't have any, or want to convert to crockpot/freezer meals.

@Kate08Young I know we talked about starting one for freezer meals but I can't find it. I'm on mobile and went back 6 pages...if someone sees it can you bump it?
I have meals that I know work for my family but it's nice to see what other "real" people actually have tried...so many pinterest things end up as total fails for me lol.
@dmontgo and everyone else - make sure you sign up for Cater's rewards program (if you like their clothes). I buy a lot of DS' clothes there because they are made well enough to last 6 months and are inexpensive (and I think they're cute). I always have a 20-40% off coupon in my email and every other time I'm there I end up with a $10 rewards coupon to spend. Those savings add up.

YES. I can't cook now. I REALLY don't want to. But then I was like... maybe i'm just being lazy so I tried to make a soup to freeze. It turned out inedible. I don't want to and should not cook. It was like this with DS too. My desire to cook didn't come back right away either
@ashleaf2018 both my Dr. and my hair lady gave me the OK to dye my hair. If you're still worried or unsure, my hair stylist told me that hi-light/anything that uses foil won't necessarily touch your scalp (which is why most people might worry with the mindset of touch scalp=absorbed into blood stream=hurts baby). Both women reassured me that there is so little dye that gets absorbed by your body, baby shouldn't be affected at all.
Re: freezer meals thread - I started the Tasty Tuesday thread on Tuesdays just a week or so ago for general recipes and we decided in there to do a separate one for freezer meals, I believe a little closer to D-day.... I can just start it now on Tuesdays as well, if we want to start this early
So I mentioned to my doctor that my mother had pre-e when she was pregnant with me, and the doctor recommend that I start taking a baby aspirin (81mg) daily. I'm nervous about doing this. I don't typically like to take much of anything. Since I got pregnant excepting the prenatal the most interesting pill I've swallowed has been a cranberry pill or a dissolving B12 tablet. I just get nervous introducing where there's been nothing. I would die if I started doing this and it hurt Eaton somehow. Advice?
200 million? In all honesty, we went through 2-3/day with my son when he was a newborn from spit up, to poop to beer being spilled on him (only once). So just think about how much you want to be doing laundry! Bonus: white onesies are CHEAP.
@caseyewhitaker I started a baby aspirin regimen because my doctor was a bit concerned about my BP, but I'm fine and so is Ashton. My BP has actually lowered, although I'm not sure if it's exclusively because of the aspirin. It's better than having to take a BP medication, although do it if they tell you to. @DiFazette has a lot more information than I do on this, but I'm sure she'll tell you a little prevention is better than the potential alternative.
@dmontgo thanks for the reassurance. I'm hoping it's not a big deal. I'm just a little scared about introducing stuff to my system.
I have an appointment on Wednesday and my OB doctors rotate (the way they work is that I use every doctor in their whole practice eventually - which I like because it up's the chance I'll be familiar with my doctor when the time comes for me to labor) so I'm going to discuss it with him and tell him what I told her and then also express my fears. My blood pressure isn't high, it's been staying pretty normal just fluctuating a degree or so. So after we check it again Wed and see what it's doing, I'll let him patiently reassure me of yet another thing I'm freaked out about for probably no reason, and then I'll likely shut up and take them. Naturally, I'm not interested in health problems, either. BUT, I also know doctors are human and humans make mistakes regardless of their profession so I want to be sure.
