Re: Stupid Questions Sunday 8/14

  • Is it normal to feel baby "dig" into one area of my abdomen at 24 weeks? I swear he rolls his head or shoulder HARD into my upper belly at random intervals throughout the day.

I was just freaking out about this tonight. I had DH feel my upper belly as well, just to see if he could feel it.Now, Michael is digging in a different area.
  • @Mamax2 all this guesswork is driving me bananas!!

Mine digs into my lower right part of my abdomen, usually at night. I think because I sleep on my right side she somehow slides into place there and settles in and pushes out. Really hurts when I get out if bed at night to pee - like lean over and clutch my stomach hurts. She usually moves out of place after I stretch though.

  • @tinattt23 @penelope4612 Great ideas with the turkey jerky and tofu. The second doula I interviewed said something about it so I looked it up. I've been feeling pretty tired lately and looked at my meals and I need to basically have more meat and beans I've decided. The jerky seems like a great idea because I can store it at work, where I spend most of my waking life  :s

  • so, totally tmi but has anyone had an actual puddle of discharge?  today i was standing in the bathroom and felt really wet down there and when i looked down there was a six inch puddle on the floor and my panties were completely soaked through (i'm wearing a dress). the puddle was completely clear.  for a minute i thought maybe i had peed myself so i smelled it and it didn't smell like urine, more sweet smelling.  i changed my panties and baby is kicking and moving lots.  doc says to monitor at home and call back if leaking continues which it's been a few hours and just the normal pregnancy discharge so far. i don't think it's PROM because i would continue to leak and really i don't think i peed myself since i would have felt it.
  • @zubenescamali wha?! I'm curious now. Keep us updated!

  • People that have had two or more babies, is the PP engorgement as bad after #2 as it is the first time? I was thinking about this last night as I laid wide awake in bed (thanks brain) and wondered if it would hurt as much. I haven't nursed in about a year and sometimes still can express milk and was hoping that means it won't be as painful this time around.

@zubenescamali I would get checked out.  One of the biggest telltale signs is that amniotic fluid smells sweet. I'm surprised your doc said to monitor from home for that much of a gush.   That's not normal discharge in my opinion.  I don't mean to be an alarmist, but I'd get checked.  Like, today.  But that's me.

+1 to this thought. Everything I have read said a 'sweet smelling, almost/mostly clear fluid is likely to be amniotic fluid'.

  • @zubenescamali I didn't this this before, but I had the exact thing happen to me Wednesday. Went in, and all was fine. I'm glad you had the same outcome. It was a alarming! I've had nothing like it since, so I guess it was a fluke thing.

The nurse said if it happens again to put a maxi pad on, stand, squat, and cough really hard a few times. I guess if it would be fluid, that move would almost guarantee some would come out and it might be easier to tell.
  • @cgss11 glad to hear everything is okay with you too (and super glad that i'm not alone in this weirdness!)
  • A few friends of mine graciously offered to host a baby shower for me mid-October. It's going to be on a Sunday, as Saturdays are just too busy and the date at least worked for me, and the 3 of them.

I don't know if DH's side will host a baby shower for me. No one has said anything, but they also didn't say anything to me about a Bridal Shower until a month before the wedding, so it could be delayed. IF they want to throw one for me... which it really doesn't matter.

With the unknown of them throwing me on (his family is fairly large, mine is small), would I include my SIL and MIL in the friend hosted shower? Do I even invite family, or keep it just friends?

Right now, I am inviting female family (mom, sister, aunts and a few cousins wives), and then some friends. It's basically the same list of people who were invited to my Bridal Shower thrown by my sister, which was for my side and friends. My MIL and SIL were invited to that one.

I've hosted a few Baby Shower for friends, and it was just a small group of friends... no family, as their families were hosting ones. No one from my family has said anything to me, so I figure I could just include them in this one.

  • @Kacie209 - I would ask the friends how many people they can accommodate for the shower and if they were planning on this being friends only or friends and family.  If they can accommodate enough people to include MIL and SIL, I'd include them.  Hearing about the shower may motivate them to let you know if they were planning something else for you and if not, then at least they won't be upset about not being included.
  • Agree with @penelope4612 - my sister is throwing mine and since its at a restaurant, it can accommodate both sides of the family and a few close friends. However, i have the opposite problem. I have a million family members and DH only has a few, so take with a grain of salt!

Ok.. Speaking of stupid Sunday questions. Any mamas who can answer this: also, forewarn kinda gross and TMI. Noticed today that my nipples are super cracked looking, to the point where if I touch or pick at them skin is actually coming off and it appears to be white underneath?! Kinda freaking me out as a ftm. I knew leakage could happen but peeling I had no idea. (Are they gonna fall off completely?! Literally this thought occurred) And I am religious about lotioning all of me, every single day. Is this normal??
  • @mforinger Literally this might not be any help at all, but I know sometimes dried colostrum can look like peeling skin or dandruff...do you think it's something like that?

@PensiveCrayon I hadn't thought of that, maybe that could be it?! I have no idea. Just super freaking me out for some reason. I'm half tempted to google this.. Though sometimes not knowing is easier haha.
  • My friends had kind of asked if I knew an estimate of numbers, and mentioned some of my family... since I said it would be pretty close (of not less) to what my Bridal Shower was, and 2 out of the 3 were able to make that. I think they were throwing ideas on where to have it, so I'll just check with them before giving a list and narrowing it down, if needed.

t won't be big at all, but good idea on to ask that.

It's (most likely) just dried colostrum :) Does it kind of 'wash clean" in the shower? I have it this time around too... kinda yuck but no need to worry!

@Toller02 yes, I didn't notice til this morning but it does seem better after showering! If that is what it is, do you actually notice it coming out? I have not seen or felt anything but honestly I'm so clueless sometimes
  • @mforinger I have noticed this stuff too, and assume it's what everyone else has said. I usually wash it off, or  take a tweezers and remove it; which is painless.

  • @mforinger I never notice it - just is there sometimes and sometimes not! Though I know some people leak, so that could happen later- for now I'll just take this :)

  • When I sleep on my side, I wake up with a sore shoulder and a sore hip.  Then I turn to the other side and wake up with a sore hip and shoulder over there, too.  Any ideas?  I have a snoogle but I'm not sure it's really helping.  My natural state is on my back and I still wake up on my back sometimes, even in the snoogle.
  • @penelope4612 I have the same issue with sleeping on my side.  I am a solid stomach sleeper and can't figure out how the heck people sleep on their sides, even with the snoogle.  After a solid 2am meltdown because I couldn't get comfortable or sleep for yet another night my groggy husband goes and gets about ten pillows from the hall closet, throws them on the bed and says "TONIGHT WE END THIS!"  :D

The only thing that helped was to put a pillow under my shoulder so it wasn't digging into the firm mattress all night. Then I have my arm up cradling my head, and then another pillow between my arm and head.  The snoogle just wasn't giving me enough neck support. Also a thicker pillow between my knees helped take a lot of pressure off of my hips.  It seems to lift up the higher side so the lower isn't digging into the bed as much.  Thankfully I didn't need all ten pillow.

  • @fauxpa I was also a stomach sleeper. I got one of those big u shaped pregnancy pillows in May for my birthday. I heard they were good for back pain, and I have a history of back issues so I went with it. Just started using it in the last week or so and its really helped. The way I use it, I don't think I'd be happy with a snoogle or other c shaped pillow. But it does take up a crap ton of space on the bed. And gets pretty hot in the little cocoon space, but I am a furnace while I sleep.
  • @Fauxpa I'm a solid stomach sleeper myself. I have a body pillow and I stuff it up under my stomach and between my legs and get as much in the position I prefer as I can while I let the pillow be my resistance from doing fully what my body wants. It's been my sleep compromise. I lol'd at your husband's determination!

@penelope4612 I am wondering how what I am doing might work in reverse. What if you stuffed the resistance behind you so that you could go back like you want but not 100%, just enough to satisfy you and get you off your hip and shoulder?

  • Stomach sleeper trying to transition to a Snoogle here, too. My biggest problem has been back pain! Any suggestions? I've been sleeping with the long part to my front, but last night (in the midst of the pain) I switched it to the back. I'll try it again tonight, and see if that helps.

  • Fellow stomach sleeper. I use my snoogle and put it between both knees. Then I use a feather pillow on top of the snoogle for under my head and neck. Finally, I use a second feather pillow (more fill so not quite as soft) to support my back. It has been helping!

  • I have mostly given up sleeping comfortably. I am a die hard back sleeper, and even with my U pillow I still end up on my back. I am so sore from the contortions before ending on my back, so I just sleep in the recliner.

  • @PensiveCrayon I'm also normally a stomach sleeper and I've been using the Snoogle since June, hoping to sort of ease myself into side sleeping.  I usually sleep with it wrapped around my back and the bottom part pulled up between my knees. I try to get it pretty snug around my back so I'm not rolling during the night.  Not sure if that will help you, but it has worked so far for me!

A friend's mom was telling me that she slept on her stomach her whole pregnancy (this was 20ish years ago).  I have no idea how she managed that!
  • @thedaint87 I see that in my head as looking like an upside-down turtle....cuz that's how I would have looked if I got on my belly last pregnancy at 40 weeks haha.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • @sourlemon One of my favorite reviews of the Snoogle is written by a guy who says his wife looks like "an unfortunate turtle" trying to get out of bed in the morning. :joy:
@thedaint87 I can still sort of get by sleeping my stomach, but I have to have an arm under my hip (it's what I do anyway, but the added weight, I think, makes it fall asleep, which is no good) and my leg splayed out to the side like a flamingo. I can't imagine being able to get away with this the next 20ish weeks! Also, I know it's not true at all, but I really do feel like I'm crushing my child!
