@MrsDramaK ugh that's the worst!!! In sorry they were so thoughtless, especially when you take time to go the extra mile! Happy Birthday and I hope you have a great day!!!!!
Im doing my online videos my OB's office requires. I hate having to watch these videos. I forgot how the c section went and I'd rather be in the dark. I know not everyone wants to be, but I don't want to know all that can go wrong. Now I'm paranoid whereas I was eh yeah it was no fun but no big deal before.
Your OB's office requires you to watch the videos? Interesting.
@Xstatic3333 I agree with everyone else, you have valid reasons and I don't think anyone will care that it's so early. I would just make sure to get started on the registry ASAP. Those things take forever.
Speaking of baby showers.....when is everyone else having theirs? My baby is due 2/5 so really, it could come late January, too.
@AfKash Mine is going to be in early November, my aunt and best friend are co-hosting and haven't settled on an exact date yet, but definitely early November.
@AfKash mine is 2/6 so similar timing. I've actually already pretty much done my registry. I did a ton of gear research in early 1st tri when I felt powerless to do anything else and then just registered online. It started as a research registry to keep track of good recommendations from here, and I certainly don't plan on sharing it with anyone anytime soon, but it exists. I'm really trying to pare down my registry to the basics, so I didn't want the pressure of doing it in person at Babies 'r Us. I registered online for my wedding too and it was the best decision. It seems like my friends who registered in-store had much more stressful experience.

Yes, and it doesn't matter how many babies you've had. You could be on baby number 10 and you still have to watch the videos. There is a reason I didn't become a nurse or a doctor lol.
We have two sleeping beauties in heaven. Jack gained his wings on 09/02/2016. Kali gained her wings on 07/28/2015. They will be forever missed.

That would piss me off. It seems so demeaning. I'm an adult who's about to be a parent, trust me to obtain my own resources, please. Recommend, sure, but don't require.

It's for liability purposes, so I get it. I still don't like it though.

@Xstatic3333 wow! Good for you! I haven't even started my registry. But thanks for the info on doing it online. I was actually going to go into the store thinking that they'd be more helpful. But you're right, they'll probably just pressure me into adding things I don't really need. My sister said she'll help me (she's a veteran with 4 kids and I love all her stuff) but she's on vacation right now. But I can start without her.
@bdesterhouse what kind of liability? Lol. That's stupid AF. I can understand for FTM but after that? They don't trust their patients.

I had to watch videos before getting my wisdom teeth out and I got really angry. They were made so like a 5 year old could understand them but went over everything that could go wrong so I felt like my intelligence was insulted while I was scared to death at the same time.
I don't want to watch any birth videos. I want to take a birthing class though, I hope they don't make us watch a video in that!

@marriedhamstermom if you don't mind me asking, what state do you live in? I've had so many surgeries in my life and they have never made me watch or even read anything. I'm wondering if this just a cultural medical practice observed in some parts of the country.
@AfKash I live in Maine. I've had many surgeries and never been asked to watch videos before, just the stupid wisdom teeth one. With my other surgeries I had to sign a waiver saying I understood the risks of surgery and the doctors would go over some common issues but that was it.

My sister and I went engagement ring shopping "just for fun" this morning, but little does she know her boyfriend has already asked me for help! And my best friend's boyfriend just asked me to have lunch with him in a couple of weeks to give him engagement ring advice. Eeee!
FTM here. I have my NT screening on Tuesday and I've read that some genetic tests can give you the sex of the baby. Does this fall under one of those tests? We're doing the sequential screening so its an ultrasound and blood work.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! @MrsDramaK ... I'm hoping this makes you laugh, I thought it was pretty funny, and it's birthday related!! And congratulations on a baby girl, great birthday news.

I've never heard of an OB office having people watch any videos, that's different news to me. it's the ones in the hospital after the birth of the baby that I can't stand. I get that maybe some people need to watch them, but I feel like they are common sense, and extremely boring. I'm super tired after all that labor and pushing, the last thing I feel like doing in between the constant nurses in and out of the room, is watch those videos.
Can we start a poll eventually on this baby shower date? I want some data, lol. I think early December would be my favorite time (We're in Tennessee so it'll be 50 degrees)... but my husband has 14 Aunts that'll be clucking about how inconsiderate the date is, no matter when we do it. Also, who has 14 aunts!? Crazy catholic family.

I've had a baby born Feb 22, and we did a january shower, this is what I personally got out of the timing. Between thanksgiving and new years, people are crazy busy already with family parties, work parties, and Christmas shopping. In January people are saying they just spent all their money, so they feel guilty about the lack of gifts (not that I was concerned, but that the people felt bad, making me feel awkward as well). Plus if you have an early Feb due date, January is awful tight before you're due, and doesn't leave much time to organize your new baby stuff and purchase anything else you need. If you're due closer to the end, a mid to late January might be ok. To me, the ideal time if I were to have a shower this time (im due feb 9) would be mid November. This year specifically I'd want it to be either the weekend of 12th or the 19th. This would put it before the holiday rush, but still be well into pregnancy.
Well, we attempted to do the first trimester blood work twice this week. Twice they poked me Wednesday, no dice. Too dehydrated. I drank like a fish today and yesterday, go back this afternoon. This time she sticks my other arm, nothing. Then she tries my foot (I didn't even know that was an option before today), which hurt like HECK, and still no blood. Now I am covered in bruises, and they didn't even get the draw.
So we got the 1st tri ultrasound (all good!), but I've given up on the blood test. I apparently have none to spare.

My cousin is throwing my baby shower. I'm thinking about having it Thanksgiving day since everyone will be together already. It might work well for my family. Either that or the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.
