Whoever made up the phrase, "I slept like a baby," clearly had no idea how restless they sound as they are asleep.
Baby A is constantly grunting or hiccuping in her sleep. Out of paranoia, I am half asleep checking to see if she is breathing upon her grunts. The struggle is real!
I am going to wait a few more weeks before starting to cloth diaper as well. I agree with @cal031686, we need a cloth diapering thread.
On another note, to anybody planning on breast feeding / pumping, I highly recommend adding a foam roller to your nursery. Our pumpkin is 10 days old and my back and shoulders are all tight and tense. Rolling out the muscles after each feed feels like a deep tissue massage!!!
@allisun85. That is such wonderful news! Just in time for baby too.
I know this may be lame but I can't wait to go home today bc our double stroller is being delivered. I can't wait to try it out. My 22 year old self just threw up
@Lynnlove28, there were several periods in 3.5 years of her own crib/bed and her in our bed. More often than not it was me caving because one of us (or both) were sick or traveling when my dad was in and out of hospital. I think I have the separation anxiety more than She does lol.
What is your ladies opinion on purchasing a bassinet vs. just using my pack n' play in the corner of my bedroom? I have a Graco pack n' play with the elevated infant surface/bed on one side, and changing station on the other which seems reasonable... reducing the trips back and forth to the nursery in the middle of the night. Thoughts? Experience?
@caitlinj187, if we had the room on our room I would use a pack n play we already had with elevated surface. However, that won't fit in our closet of a room so bassinet it is!
@Alikay20 We got a Snuza through a non-profit. We tried it on the cat (no baby yet), it seems to work. It alarms if it stops going up and down, measuring breathing.
@caitlinj187 I would say you'll be fine with the pack n play. We had a bassinet and it barely got used (we ended up using a rock n play next to the bed). I was planning on using the pack n play this time, but I can't find the extra parts to elevate it
@Lynnlove28 I am convinced my LO has moved up in my body... My heartburn is back, and last night I felt his hiccups in my hip bones. I swear he was lower a week ago.
@Bookhousegirl and @Lynnlove28 I agree... my baby has dropped low and then crawled back up a couple times since week 32... really drives me nuts because I was like Oh shoot baby is coming... and now I am 37 weeks and baby is still in there... ugh
For those who've had NSTs, can you tell a difference between a Braxton hicks contraction and a real contraction on the monitor?
The past two weeks the line that monitors contractions has been completely flat but then today it was all over the place. I wasn't feeling anything, Braxton hicks or real. My doctor didn't say anything about it but there were 2 or 3 times that the line topped out at the top of the chart. Any experience?
@lynnlove28 My midwife said you can. "real" contractions spike higher, and have a more defined start and end, and create a pattern. Braxton Hicks tend to be more irregular, both in the peaks and the time between. The ones I had from my uterus being irritable were like a scribbly line, the ones they stopped with meds looked more like a table. A line straight up, a line straight over, a line straight down.
Oh! and how tight they put the monitor on can make the peaks "higher" - the external monitors leave a lot of room for variation.

I've had two NSTs with BH and they look more like a bell shaped curve. Not very tall, but wide like a hill. Although I believe they were monitoring how consistently I was getting contractions rather than what the size of the curve looked like.

Is it too early for a FFFC? I've had the last two days off (I work two weekends in a row. Boo). And I have already eaten some of the snacks I bought for our hospital bag. Whoops.

Today's is my husband's 40th birthday. I'd love for baby girl to make an appearance, um, now. Thinking that would be the best present he could get! Our last baby came at 37+3 and today is 37+4, so it's totally doable. But... I think baby is still too comfortable. Boo.
Not too early @midwestbaby! My FFTC is that because potty training hell has completely taken over my life for the past week, I just realized I haven't taken a shower in a while. I spent a solid 5 minutes trying to figure out my days to realize it had been exactly a week. I have been getting by with just brushing my teeth and spritzing expensive perfume to make myself feel like I wasn't a total bum. I told my husband and he said omg, get out of here and wash your butt lol I took an extra long shower, basically poured bleach all over my skin to rid myself of toddler piss smell, and treated myself to a little mini facial.
PS - 3 day potty training is a lie. Don't believe it for a second.
I started watching Downton Abby from the beginning again since I never got to finish it. I'm hooked all over again.
I've watched all of Season 1 and Season 2 of Downton, but everyone keeps telling me how sad it gets. Honestly, I am terrible and read a couple of the spoilers, so I know the big traumatic things. But, I'm kind of scared to keep going. I was going to save it up for middle of the night feedings and stuff. Am I crazy to be worried about it being too sad?
@LWC1112 Seasons 4 and 5 are kind of downers, after the big "traumatic event" you're probably thinking of. But the final season (6) is quite good, and I thought they did a nice job of wrapping everything up and kind of redeeming everything. (Not a "neat little package" but very satisfying ending.) Push through to the end!
@tisunge602 I stopped watching after season 5 because it was so sad. Maybe I'll give the last season another shot, it can be one of my stuck-on-the-couch-breastfeeding shows.
My friends highly suggest I watch, "The Wire," except I live right in DC and the show centers around Baltimore and DC region. I'm extra paranoid to begin with so I'm not sure if watching this will be a good thing or a bad thing.
In other news, we are finally starting to house hunt except the houses around here are crazy expensive. Either we live all the way in the suburbs of VA/MD or just relocate to Waco, Texas and hope that Chip & Joanna give us our dream home. Sigh!
I feel like such a SS for even thinking about this, but here it goes anyway. My belly is measuring about 3-4 weeks ahead, so my OB had me go in for a growth check today and baby boy is only measuring about a week ahead. Great! However, his sister was measuring about 3lbs heavier at this point...I know u/s can be way off, but 3 lbs is a pretty large discrepancy. At just about 38w she was measuring 10lbs 6oz and this one is only measuring 7lbs 5oz, and it's a boy. Aren't boys supposed to be bigger??? Everything looks totally fine and normal, I haven't gained as much this pregnancy and it's overall been a bit easier, aside from caring for DD, so I'm not really surprised, but I'm kinda in denial that my boy is going to be smaller than his sister, I can't get out of my own head about it. My scheduled C-section is next Friday at 39w1d....do you think my OB would roll her eyes at me if I told her I want to wait longer to give him a chance to be a little bigger. I also feel like if he's really only 7 or 8 lbs at birth I could totally push him out, I'm 5'10 and not a small person whatsoever. She was 9lbs13oz at birth so I'm quite OK with having had a c-section with her. Then again, that would screw up my leave schedule a bit, but only by a few days. I KNOW....just tell me to STFU.
Hahahaha @Hannah0726 I think we've all been there! We've put them up and down so many times traveling and whatnot that now it only takes us a minute or two, but the first couple times it felt like we needed PhD's to assemble the PnP!
@alikay20 We live in Dallas and I comment to my husband all the time that the 1.5 hour commute wouldn't be too bad if we could get Chip and JoJo to get us a nice mid-century for $100k and fix it up. The home prices blow my mind.
@KMeredith82 how did your meeting go today? I meet with project managers all over the globe for my job, but i make everything a conference call and/or a web meeting. If it really needs to be face to face, they come to me. But, these aren't clients, they are co-workers so it's a bit different. Would you be able to set up conference calls or web based meetings instead of traveling to your clients? If i were you, i would set up firm rules about travel with my boss. Let him (or her) know that you are willing travel, but only under certain conditions. Example: only travel up to 2 non-consecutive days of the week and no more than a 30 minute drive (including traffic). Or as others mentioned, let him/her know that your doctor doesn't want you to travel farther than a certain number minutes from home due to your chances of early labor. Maybe mention the embarrassment/awkwardness of going into labor or having your water break at a client's office (i know, i know, it's not like the movies, but that should get a clear message across).
I have not announced anything on FB yet. I was planning on just a quick birth announcement.
My aunt just posted 2 of the least attractive most awful photos from my baby shower.
Great now everyone knows I'm pregnant and I look like a swollen whale. Awesome. Ugh ugh!
What are you talking about?!? You look beautiful!! I thought the same thing about my shower though. Heck, I took a Selfie this AM with DS and thought the same thing.
BUT- I think you look beautiful and very happy in the picture :-)
34 Mother of 4 year old and 2 Labs. Happily Married to my Hubs of 6 years.
@SkiChic626 I hadn't heard that boys were bigger... if he's small and you feel like you can push him out... have you asked your doctor?
Am I the only one that has already discussed when we will have our second child.. originally we were planning on ttc around 1 year... but now that we are planning to move out of state I need to rush my MBA program so we will be waiting until around november before I finish my MBA so our baby will be 2 yrs and 3 months when we TTC... so around 3 yrs apart... so much further apart than we would have liked... My DH said we can have our third really close after that to keep the ages together... kind of bummed that life got in the way. I am coming to terms with all of this
My post duplicated for some reason. So another random... I splurged on a diaper bag and it just got delivered to our house. Hoping DH doesn't open it because he will not be thrilled.
@Katm89 We haven't talked timing at all. I want to see how it goes with our first and what feels right/when we're ready based on that, and to make sure our relationship and family is in a good place. I'm a planner but since this will likely top anything we've ever done before I'm taking more of a wait and see approach for next steps after this little one.
I can see it being frustrating based on degree timing though if you are feeling ready and just waiting for that. Could you transfer to another MBA program?
@ramoseecology my degree is free because I work at the University.. so if we move I would have to pay... so thats why we are waiting for me to graduate before we move out of state... we could always say screw it on the MBA but its such a great opportunity. We are thinking we can plan the baby to come right around when we move and I can take 6 months off for maternity and then look for a job with my MBA and job experience where ever we have moved for DH's job
@AliKay20 my sister works near DC and she lives in PA. She commutes about 1.5 hours everyday, she says that it sucks but she would rather live where it's a lower cost of living and commute than pay ridiculous amounts of money to live in DC.
@SkiChic626 my mom had 4 kids. They say that your kids go up in size as you have them but it was the opposite for her. My oldest sister was her biggest baby and my little brother, who is the youngest, was the smallest of all 4 of us.
@SkiChic626 & @Lynnlove28 my MIL had her biggest baby first and the second two were much smaller... she attributes it to the fact that she gained less with those pregnancies.. her first pregnancy she gained around 70 pounds
@Mrsrundell alright, I'm going to have to give this show a chance!
@Lynnlove28 I definitely see where your sister is coming from especially now that we have a baby - DH & I have to reassess this cost of living situation ASAP. And kudos to your sis for commuting to DC. Speaks volumes of her patience: Rush hour traffic is no joke + people do not know how to drive here.
Okay call me emotional but every time I open TB app, it says how far along I am with my pregnancy. This week marks 39th week of my little Peanut in my belly technically but she's already turning 3 weeks old this Thurs. All the feels. Time is going by so fast yet so slow at the same time!
@AliKay20 My sister lives in DC too (near Barracks Row) and I can't believe how crazy expensive it is to live there. She makes good money but even on her salary I don't know if they'll ever be able to buy a house. And yes, traffic there is CRAZY.
Btw, do you know you can change your Bump profile to let it know you have an outside baby now? Then you'll get your baby's age when you open the app rather than how far along you are.
@LWC1112 , I didnt know that! Dang it! I can't due sad shows while pregnant. I feel too invested to stop though. Hopefully this little one will come before I get to those seasons. I may need to dial back on the binge watching a bit.
@Katm89 We're already planning the next one. Always with the caveat of "we'll see how this one goes," but yeah. The main issue is my age, I turn 34 in August. I want to wait 2 years and try for another child when I am 36, which, depending on how long it takes TTC, would make our kids about 3 years apart. I know I risk more AMA-related issues and the possibility of not being able to conceive at all, but I don't want to do it any closer together than that. There are also risks with close-together pregnancies. And for my own personal reasons -- I don't want 2 under 2, I want to give my body a break, etc.
The bad thing is, since we're having a boy now, DH and I both have caught ourselves talking about "trying for a girl" the second time around, and we really need to nip that kind of thinking in the bud. We will try for one more child, period.

It came pretty quickly once I sent in the paperwork. You return the monitor prior to the child's first birthday.
