I am getting really frustrated trying to pick out a glider and ottoman. My Aunt wants to buy it for me (before I was going to just use a rocking chair I already have) and I can't find exactly what I want. Most of the styles I like are gray (and I want more of a tan or beige) and microfiber (and I want regular upholstery).

I had the same problem. I ended up finding a good one at a furniture store locally. It's probably more expensive than most, but it's the look I want and still cheaper than the PB kids ones. It's so hard to find and then finding one in the right color!! I went with white and the fabric is washable.

@emmaaa... There's a place called Transit Damage Freight that we're going to order ours from (new). They carry both new and "damaged" furniture. They have multiple locations but I bet the Lexington one is closest to you (that's the one my parents order their new furniture from and they're not far from where you've said you are. Anyway, they can order Best Chairs... you can pick your chair style, call them to make sure they can order that particular style, then you can go in and choose your fabric. That would hopefully solve your issue. :) Here's the Transit Damage Freight website - https://www.transitdamagedfreightnconline.com/
Here's the Best Chairs Website- https://www.besthf.com/best/Furniture/Chairs
They can also order another brand of glider but said that most moms end up going with Best.... which is the same brand that I think they carry at BRU.... that or BBB

ETA- the ladies that work there are WONDERFUL. We ordered all of our living room and kitchen furniture from there and my mom has ordered pretty much all of her downstairs and bedroom furniture from them (they know her lol). And their prices are cheaper than what you'd find elsewhere. For example, with the money we saved ordering our Ashley furniture from there instead of Ashley, we were able to buy a new dining room table and chairs.
  • @ibabyloveb87 @CopperBoom86 I have a cousin like this. I actually hooked her up with some beach body videos, went over how to do them with her, and wrote up a schedule for her that was beyond manageable since she was 17, in highschool, and only worked part-time at McDonald's. She never followed through with it and always complains about her body to this day (nearly 3 YEARS later). Sorry girl. I gift wrapped a fitness routine for you, you're just too damn lazy.

@CopperBoom86 @AllyTheKid She uses her kid as an excuse a lot. The gym has a perfectly acceptable childcare room. Plenty of other friends use it. :eyerolls:

  • @ibabyloveb87 LOL. If you have Internet access, you have an infinite number of personal trainers readily available to you without ever having to leave your living room. And thinking you NEED all of the fancy gym equipment is a total myth. Having a job and child(ren) just really isn't an excuse. At all.

Guys, a friend showed me this video today  of a comedian (Trevor Noah) talking about the comparisons between Trump and many African presidents. Fairly accurate and hilarious, if you're into this kinda thing

  • Have you guys started packing a hospital bag?  DH said to me yesterday "you're officially in the third trimester, start putting together a bag".   What's crazy is that in my first tri, I had like all these pinterest pins of what to pack...my amazon wishlist was full of stuff that i needed to pack. hahaha... and now that third tri is actually here, i'm like slacking on this bag prep thing.
  • @annabenanna Not yet. But I have a list of items on my phone so it won't take long to do!

@annabenanna With DS I had a list on my phone, too. I washed and put a few of his outfits that I wanted for pictures in the bag at about 36 weeks (the hospital sends a professional photographer in). But, for everything else I just waited and packed when it was time. Typically, it isn't like the movies where you go into labor and BAM! contractions are unbearable and you have to rush out the door. Of course things can happen that are cause for urgency.

Anyway, I packed everything literally the day before I had my son. I went into early labor around 4 p.m. and thought I should collect everything at that point. Around 11 p.m. contractions were uncomfortable enough that I couldn't sleep, but I didn't actually head to the hospital until 8 a.m. the next morning.

I guess my point is...you still have time. Anything you put in now will be sitting there a while. And, most things (a pillow, face wash, lotion, snacks, etc.) is stuff you'll probably be using up until you go to the hospital anyway.

  • @ibabyloveb87, @F47, I think you ladies having it on your phones makes sense!  And yes, F47, I think you're right...there will be time!

Okay, I guess I should just finalize a list, and get stuff that I don't have yet ordered.... then just wait to pack later on. :)

This is what I'm planning on doing next week. I don't want to pack a bag because a lot of the stuff I or DH will be packing are things I still want to wear/use before baby gets here. I'm planning on making a very specific list and putting it in the bag I plan to take. That way I can throw stuff together when the time comes without worrying about whether or not I'm forgetting something.

  • My biggest problem is: which bag to use!! Ha my usual travel bag is way too big (overpacker here), but I'm not sure a tote bag is going to be big enough.  :D

  • @ibabyloveb87 This is my problem too! All we have are suitcases and I don't want/need to bring THAT much stuff. With DD, I brought a duffel bag but the strap is now broken on it. I guess finding a new bag should be my priority for now.  :)
  • I'm using needing a reasonably sized hospital bag as an excuse to get a Very Bradley duffel, lol. Usually DH and I share this honking duffel bag when we travel, but it's completely unreasonable for the hospital. I figure I'll put DH's hospital stuff in there with mine if it seems really big, and we'll use the diaper bag for the LO; I'll just empty it of most everything except his clothes so I have room to snag hospital diapers and such lol.

  • Okay this tags on to the hospital bag question....when are you ladies installing your car seat?  I told hubby we should do it soon (we only have one car and I'm afraid I'm going to go into labor when we're not together and I won't be able to get the car seat in the car and the hospital is 20-25 minutes away), but he doesn't want to do it yet cause we lose a seat in the back and we often pick up someone on our softball team.

Oh someone answer this for me too! I'm getting my car seat from a friend and need to actually pick it up so we can install the bases in our cars.

@LauraPCOS... I think it's too soon. I'm a FTM too but here's my rationale... you're not going to go into labor, deliver the baby, and head right home. IF it happens that you go into labor before you install the car seat, you can just throw the components in the car before heading to the hospital and then DH can install it there before you discharge with baby. Realistically, if you're in a bad enough spot that you're not able to put a car seat in the car (not install, just put it in there), you shouldn't be driving yourself to the hospital. Also, if you forget, your H can run home and install after birth but before discharge at some point. I'm not in a rush to install ours for that reason
To piggy back on this, many hospitals will install it for you for a small charge.

    Exactly this.
  • @annabenanna I went and picked up a bunch of stuff for my hospital bag last week, including a comfy black robe, but have yet to pack.

Although, (and this probably belongs in the "Shit just got real" thread) my mom texted me at the crack of dawn saying she woke up in a panic because SHE doesn't have her "go bag" ready lol. I told her we still have time. Her response? "OK, Miss 8 weeks early!"... 8 weeks from my due date would be a week from this upcoming monday. THANKS A LOT MOM! Holy cow.  :#

Hahahaha, your mom does have a point @Julia70286.  Question, what robe do you have?  I see all the fancy cute ones on Etsy, but feel like they'd be too slippery.... instead I wanna get this Jockey one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E1ZOULU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3P5IV9JRUWQI7&coliid=I2K792QXNYKW1C&psc=1

Hubby doesn't drive, that's the real problem lol. I've been bitching at him for years about getting him his licence again, but I think he's scared to drive (plus why drive when you have someone driving you around always).  But good call on putting it in the car and he can install it at the hospital (not sure if our hospital offers the installation for a fee)

re car seats- I told H I want to install the bases before we go back to school (mid August), then we will either remember to grab it on our way to the hospital, or he will go back for it before we're discharged. Of course, that plan would assume that we had them in our possession by then... ;)
  • On the subject of robes, I got this black nightgown and robe set at Macy's for $45, although it's on sale now for $30! I like that they're both black, and the fabric is a soft jersey. The nightgown is going to be great for nursing, the top splits open easy, so I'm looking forward now to being able to use it!

Our hospital hosts car seat installation "events" every month. You pull into the parking garage and they have "experts" install the car seat for you. I had my car seat/base installed in early November and I was due Dec. 3. LO didn't come until Dec. 9, but it wasn't a big deal. The base doesn't take up too much space - and it actually came in handy holding some groceries steady one trips home from the store. lol

  • Regarding the car seats, I won't install mine until we're at the hospital. If you have an accident you have to get rid of your car seats and replace them with new ones. You can sometimes go through insurance but it's a total pain in the ass and the last thing you need to worry about. My base takes all of 2 seconds to install so I would just practice at home until you're good at it and leave it in your vehicle but don't tie it in or else if you have a wreak the seat is garbage.

  • Haven't packed my bag yet, but I'll be doing it this weekend. I'm just waiting for the outfits.

I have not installed our car seats yet. We are literally losing an entire row to babies.

Make sure you have a CPST check your install. Most hospitals won't install for you and most firefighters/police officers are not certified either.

Is anyone getting two sizes for outfits? I ordered newborn size, but now I'm wondering if I should get preemie too since DD was in preemie for a month and there are two this time.
