A follow-up on looking for tall maternity jeans, I found affordable long jeans at Motherhood Maternity! I am almost 5'11" and they are a 34" inseam and fit perfectly (I got the skinny jean but they also had straight and bootcut) and right now they are buy one get one 50% off
Got five pairs of maternity pants from Motherhood Maternity yesterday... Hoping they will get me through all of September and into October, depending on when it finally cools down. I also tried to get some new bras, but that was a disaster. Apparently, my boobs are way out of control. The Soma bras I usually love were overflowing and the ones from MM were completely useless - I've never tried on a bra meant for a E cup with less support. What the heck am I supposed to do with these bad girls? Has anyone switched over to sports bras? I was thinking a soft cup, low impact one might work well.
Do I really need a maternity coat? I was hoping to get by without one. I usually only wear a sweater coat most of the time in the winter. For context, I'm a Yankee living in the mid-Atlantic region.
I live in central Wyoming (think a foot of snow at a time) and I'm not buying a maternity coat. I'll just wear the one I have and not zip it up. Its a really nice Eddie Bauer down coat so I'll be plenty warm. Plus I park in the garage and park close to my office so I'm outside for less than a minute. A maternity coat seems like an unnecessary expense to me.
I will definitely be buying a maternity winter coat. I live in Nova Scotia and we have brutal winters -- lots of blizzards, freezing raining, painful windchill. Plus I'm a wimp when it comes to cold weather.
If you're torn, you could always look into a jacket expander like this one: https://makemybellyfit.com. They might sell similar things elsewhere for cheaper?
Has anyone tried Walmart for work pants? I see some decent looking CHEAP ones online I'm tempted to order. All the pants I have (various brands) are baggy in the crotch and stretch and get droopy all over throughout the day. I'd like my butt to still look good, plz
I finally broke down and went maternity clothes shopping yesterday. First, I went to Pea in a Pod and didn't find anything that fit me right. Then, I went to Macy's which has a whole Motherhood Maternity section and did so well. I got work tops and bottoms, leggings, jeans and cardigans. They had long length in many of their bottoms.
Ahhhhhhh... after like a month of not buttoning my pants I've finally broke down and bought maternity pants. BEST DECISION EVER. I'm high on life right now. This is infinitely better than sliced bread, and maybe even fire or the wheel.
I just place my first order with swap.com (they have a referral system so that both parties get store credit if anyone is interested send me a PM and I'll send you my referral link). I ordered a pair of Gap pants, a Gap top, an Old Navy top, and a Motherhood top for a total of $33. The return policy looks ok but not great, so hopefully I like everything and it will all fit.
Also, I've been really interested in the capsule wardrobe concept and just generally having a very mix and match style wardrobe for a while now and I'm finally going to test it out with maternity clothes (does anyone here have experience with capsule wardrobes?). My original inspiration was from Putting Me Together, but I'm finding the Vivienne Files easier for me to apply. I'm basically going with her 4 x 4 approach for maternity purposes because I'll need them for such a short period of time, but I'm trying to angle for tops that I can wear after pregnancy (i.e. trying to avoid side ruching although I do think it's generally cute), then I'm going to work through her Scratch Wardrobe series when I'm back in regular clothes (assuming the 4x4 goes well).
Right now it's looking promising. I'm pretty visual and very much detail oriented so I've started a spreadsheet listing out the items I need based on the 4x4 recommendations and labeled each item with the color I want it in and am marking them in gray when I've purchased it so that I have a running list of what I'm still looking for. Then I have 3 tabs with pictures of the actual items I have (saved from the websites because I basically only shop online), the 1st is just the list of things I need with the actual item picture pasted beside it as well as the price I paid (putting them in as I order), the 2nd tab is the pictures put together into outfits using the first base color, and the 3rd tab is the same, as the 2nd but using the 2nd base color. Right now, I have 8 clothing items, assuming these new purchases work out, and can put them together into 18 outfits.
I think you do the same thing with the Stylebook app, but I'm planning to start trying it as the clothes actually arrive.
@silvercamaro77 wow, I didn't know so much thought could go into the wardrobe thing! I've been trying to stick to a similar idea, although I didn't know it had a name. Most of the clothes I've purchased are in black and white, with simple patterns, and I've gotten a few tops in accent colors. I'm also going to continue to wear as many things from my regular wardrobe as I can - cardigans and blazers should be fine until we get into the really late months. So maybe try to pull in items from your regular wardrobe wherever possible, too!
I just got some jeans from A Pea in the Pod and am in love with them (they're a brand called Luxe Essentials- I checked the site and they're $20 off at the moment). They are full panel (which I prefer) and look super cute. A bit pricy but worth it for the quality (the ones I have used in the past from Gap and Target get lose and fall down at the end of the day). I also found some adorable tops there on clearance.
@AfKash I found a lot of really cute coats in larger sizes that worked for maternity last winter at Old Navy and they were at great prices. You may want to look there.
@NiceyMeany I would definitely call myself stylistically challenged. Over the years I've figured out that if I don't have an actual plan I end up with a hodge podge of things that only go with a couple of other pieces and I end up with a lot of pieces in one color, so I'm wearing that one color all the time and still can't mix and match much. I don't think most people put as much thought into it as I have and the spreadsheets are really just because I think it's fun to actually see everything.
I'm definitely pulling what I can from my existing closet, but it was pretty sparse to start with so 3-4 shirts and a cardigan are all that I have that still fit. Assuming the stuff I just ordered all works, I'll probably buy a couple more cardigans and shirts that I should be able to keep wearing afterwards, a pair of blue jeans, and maybe a dress, then I should have plenty to wear until I'm back down to normal size.

I ordered a pair of maternity jeans at the weekend & they arrived today. Im a ftm & havnt been wearing any maternity clothes yet & whilst they fit ok the panel just feels weird.
I'm wearing my first pair of maternity pants today. Got them at Old Navy and they are great. Navy twill pants with a full panel. I can't go back to my regular pants and BeBand now!
I found the most darling and inexpensive clothing at H&M. The store carries a lot of maternity clothing (online too, but in-store were cuter). I know their clothing is cheap, but it won't have to last long and I plan to hang it to dry for longevity.
Ok I have a question on fitting maternity pants... I did some online ordering. Old navy was out of my size in the full/low panel jeans, so I got two pairs of the side panel. I ordered my exact pre-pregnancy size, just maternity.
They are super comfy, but they fall down a fair bit when I walk. Is the bump going to help that as it grows, or is that a sign I need to go down a size? They fit fine in the back and aren't baggy anywhere.

Their jeans are great quality for the price!
Ooooh that's good to hear @gingersnap - there's a pair of their jeans en route to me as we speak.
I haven't tried ordering anything online since I'm really short and small, and I usually have to get pants in the juniors or even sometimes the kids department. I did find a great pair of maternity jeans that fit me at Ross though. I definitely recommend Ross to anyone who has a hard time fitting into regular women's sizes. They carry some random different brands, and some of them seem fit more like juniors.
I usually get maternity clothes from gap and old navy. They're my go to!!! This pregnancy, I'm trying to hold off as long as physically possible to buy stuff. I know what fits me now will not fit in 2-3 months.
I got some maternity work out pants at Target today. Not to work out, they're what I wear around the house. The bands of my lulu pants were digging in too much. These are AWESOME!
Got my first set of maternity clothes today. It's just a shirt and a sweater since I don't know how big I'm going to get yet. However, my mother in law gave me money for my birthday a few days ago and insisted one of the things I had to buy with it was a "fat shirt"(her words not mine lol).
@NiceyMeany I love flannel so much, and I wear it even when it's 75+ degrees here when it's supposed to be Fall. I'm going to have to get some of those!
Has anyone seen ribbed maternity tanks? I have been wearing long tanks under everything, and my prebaby ones are now showing off low belly. I hate the plain ones for some reason. They are all worn under things, but I have a bunch of colors.

Not cheap by any means, but I love me some Lululemon pants -- the ones with a high, wide, stretchy waistband. I love them...legs and butt look great and I justified the cost because I'll be able to wear them after since they aren't technically maternity.
@JulesFo I just bought my first lululemon pants recently and absolutely love them! I definitely drank the kool-aid! @Partyof6? I got some very inexpensive ribbed maternity tanks from Old Navy. I wear them under nearly everything.
Out of all my lulu pants (and I have a sick sick addiction), ONE pair is comfortable. I was gonna size up temporarily but I might stick with these Target ones with the panel.
Oh man, I love the look of lululemon stuff but I don't fit into their pants even when I'm not pregnant! Probably just as well given the price.
I'm one of those people who actually hates clothes shopping and just tries to get basics as cheap as possible. I got a full on belly a little sooner than I expected and I'm realizing I'm going to need some more knit tops before my work trip next week (my industry is very casual). H&M seems like a good way to go. Question: do H&M maternity clothes run as small as their regular clothes? I'm a medium or large for tops most places, but wondering if I should go XL from H&M. Definitely planning to order online; that physical store makes me want to panic.

i got a few black white and grey ones at old navy.. they had a sale 25% off so i think i paid $7 each

Finally! I come across another woman who hates shopping as much as I do!! I'm NOT the only one on Earth!

I like shopping for baby stuff and home stuff, but I'm basically stingy and would rather spend discretionary funds on travel or a nice meal. Clothes for myself are just a super low priority, and working in environmental science makes slacking in that area all too easy.
