Postpartum recovery questions and rants

Re: Postpartum recovery questions and rants

  • ~~Question for those that had C section.~~  I'm just over 4 weeks pp and was doing great.  I wasn't sore and bleeding had stopped (I pushed for 2 hours before they said we had to go another route).  Yesterday though, I became sore again in incision area and had small amount of bleeding that was red.  Not much though. Still sore this morning.  Thinking I just over did it between full laundry baskets and putting stroller in/out back of 4runner.  Taking it easy with some ibuprofen next day or so but wondering if this is normal for soreness to come and go.

stuck in box - My bleeding stopped right around four weeks. After a run at 4 weeks 6 days I had some very light bleeding that subsided the very next day.

I had a very similar experience. Four weeks out I was feeling really good, so I started exercising and being more active and then my incision got really sore again. I took some ibuprofen and took it very easy for a couple days, and I felt better again.
  • I'm hoping it goes away and stays away soon
  • This is honesty the most annoying thing. I just had to stop trying to lift any heavy stuff. I gave up trash detail and some other stuff for about 2 more weeks. At a little after 6 weeks I could pretty much do anything with out residual pain. But then randomly last night I got in an awkward breastfeeding position and my incision was sore but the difference was when I changed positions it went away. I am 7 weeks post partum.
  • Getting my period for the second time in two weeks (first was 8 weeks PP, am now almost 10 weeks). Basically it means that I am crabby and resentful already and DS clusterfeeds nonstop on top of that because my supply dips a bit. This sucks!

  • I had a c section and I will randomly have some pulling near the incision. My doctor said this is normal and can take 6 months to feel totally normal because underneath the skin is still healing.

Just started mine... Had my period over my birthday last year annnnnd will again this year. Giving Aunt Flo the middle finger! 8 weeks pp.
  • I haven't started my period yet, but I still have lochia Alba at 8 weeks ppd. I'm so sick of wearing pantyliners

I agree on the pads. Almost 6 weeks pp and while I don't get a lot of bleeding, there's some other brownish discharge that I'm not sure is lochia or some other discharge.

  • I've always had discharge, tmi I suppose, so panty liners are a staple in my life. I did see a little blood the other day and thought my period might be coming but it was a false alarm. My OBGYN office said I probably wouldn't get it since I BF, which I hadn't heard before. I carry a couple of pads with me everywhere nonetheless...just in case.

I EBF and it didn't keep my period from coming back this time. With DS1, it took 10 months and I was supplementing. So anything's possible--always good to be prepared.

  • Had my PP appointment yesterday (at 8 weeks since I had to reschedule it) and had to have a Pap smear done. She said my period is coming and sure enough it's here. First period in over a year!  It's not heavy yet, but man I feel so sick!  Never really experienced that before. Thank god I'm now back on the pill so at least they'll be regulated. Lol.
  • Anyone else get their period back yet? I got mine a few days ago and it's super heavy. Like soaking a pad every couple hours. No cramps. I'm kinda worried. I have never had a period this heavy. Is it normal? Anyone in the same boat?

I've been told by friends that the 1st postpartum period is really heavy and super crampy but gets better with the ones that follow.
  • Whoever recommended using an old sportsbra to make a hands-free pumping bra is a genius. I fiiiinally got around to making one and, while I look ridiculous, it works so well!

     Haha right?!
  • How do you know if bleeding is your period? It definitely seems like it but no cramps. It's not as heavy as it usually is but the heavy-ish part is lasting longer. This post partum stuff is so confusing...

How far post partum are you? I got mine at 7 weeks and didn't have craps with that period and this last one was heavier and only a little cramping. It's been a little different after every baby for me.

I'm 10 weeks. Were you breastfeeding? i am but I know that's no guarantee.
  • No I bottle feed, but you shouldn't have anymore post partum Bleeding at this point.
  • I just got mine at almost 10 weeks, and it's been weird. Kind of stop and go and no cramps. But I'm also on the pill, which could be messing it up even more

  • Anyone still having poop issues?  I'm over 11 weeks PP and these hemorrhoids are still here.  I still take colace as well as probiotics but no improvement.  Help?

I'm pooping fine, but I've come to terms with the fact that I'm pretty sure the hemorrhoids are here to stay  :s
  • Same here; my midwife told me that I'm just going to have to get used to the hemorrhoids. Yuck.
  • Anyone have a prolapse or concerned about one? I have a wierd "not right feeling" going on down there but also had an episiotomy that didn't quite heal right (looks like an extra little hole that never healed..barf). I can't see anything but feel like I have to squirm around all the time bc things feel like they are just pit of place especially when I sit...is that a normal posy partum feeling or should I go get it checked. My doctor saw this extra hole and said it wasn't a big deal and I could have sex and run again ...that was at 4 weeks..now I'm at 8.

I felt that way till about 5 week where I felt like it was falling out.  But I think at 8 weeks pp you shouldn't feel that way still.  Do you do pelvic floor exercises?  My midwife told me to do them and at my 6 week appt she said they were strong for 6 weeks pp so I'd assume if you were not doing then then maybe you'd still feel loose down there at 8 weeks but idk.
  • I am but I sort if just recently started doing them. I also just started doing a little excercise again so maybe should wait longer on that. Also the little hole I mentioned is right next to the vaginal opening so maybe that's why it feels so wierd. Ugh . I'm scared to have sex!
  • We will be driving out to the cottage tomorrow for the extended weekend and this morning I brought up seating arrangements for the car ride. We have a 7yr old bullie who has been great thus far with Damien. Usually on car rides she is harnessed in the back, but is able to somewhat move about the back seats. Her interactions with Damien have always been supervised, with one of us holding her since she don't want her to get too in his face, so to speak. I don't want her licking all over him as well, a little is just fine. Anyway, I asked my husband if he thought I should sit in the back for easy access to feed him if need be, he felt we could just pull over and I could go to the back whenever he might be hungry. I then brough up that I wasn't comfortable with our dog having free reign in the back when Damien is exposed and we can't do anything to keep herin check. I don't think she would ever harm him but you hear those stories about friendly family dogs hurting babies. He thinks I'm being overly worried and cautious. Am I crazy for wanting to be careful?

Definitely not crazy- I still sit in the back with Savannah most of the time, especially on long trips.

  • Same as @laurenm2123. And there is no one else in the back seat except the baby lol
  • I have had to go on long drives with my two large dogs and the baby by myself. You could crate the dog so he can't walk around or if you have an SUV put him in the trunk area. I put the stroller in the seat next to the carrier so that area is off limits.

Unfortunately we don't own a crate or have an SUV, but that does give me the idea to create some kind of barrier perhaps.
  • Depending on the size of the dog, you might put them in the front seat and you sit in the back. That makes it easier to soothe and re-pacify the baby.

That's what I initially suggested but my husband would rather have me up front keeping him company. I have a feeling I will end up in the back either way.
  • Gross alert: anyone still have hemorrhoids?  I've been using stool softeners and probiotics, lots of water ect but it hurts so bad ever time I go to the bathroom and I bleed.  They are internal which I heard shouldn't hurt as much.  Issue with that is I obviously can't use creams or other topical home remedies to help.

Yep mine are still there but external. They don't hurt or bother me but I can only imagine what my butthole looks like. Lol. I've come to terms with the fact that I think they're here to stay. Boo.

Get your dr to prescribe something called proctofoam.  I had the gnarliest hemorrhoid ever, it was external and the size of a very large grape :s , but I also had internal ones.  And my midwife just said "use this, it works" and it was better within two days.  You insert it internally and it burns, but it works.

Thank you, I'll ask my dr about it.  I'm gonna go see a gastroenterologist cause I have other issues that need attention so I'll bootstrap this on as well. Lol
  • So I just started my first pp period. Oh my goodness my abdomen hurts. Has anyone else who had a c section gotten their period yet? Was it painful?
