Newbie to these boards. We have been trying for almost two years now. Went to possibly get iui yesterday June 9. This is our first iui. No Meds for me this round. My doc thought I would be ok without Meds since we are dealing more with mfi. Low motility and an ok count but on the lower side of normal. Had one follie that was 19mm and several small ones and my lining was 10mm. My doc of course is going to be out of town the next few days so we went for it. Iui and also a trigger shot too. Hoping we all get good news this month!!! Now for the tww :/ now what should I do with myself.

  • Newbie here hope you all don't mind me joining mid month! I've been TTC over a year and 1/2 and have been on regular forums and now seeing a fertility dr figured I need some different support!

ive done 2 rounds of Clomid first round 2 follicles next round had 3 follicles and I had high hopes!! Did trigger shot and no success.

This cycle with Clomid only had one follicle and I'm pretty bummed about that.  Took my trigger shot went for acupuncture and then did my first IUI yesterday, was going for #2 this morning and and emergency got in the way.  Are my odds still hopeful with just the one IUI?

Also does the IUI typically happens one or two days after taking the trigger shot?

thanks for any and all I out in advance.  Never thought this process could be so frustrating!! Good luck to everyone!! Hope to see lots of BFPS for everyone!!

  • Unfortunately odds aren't really in your favor with an IUI.  :(

My last IUI, I triggered on a Wednesday night for a Friday morning IUI.

Welcome to the group, and sorry you have to be here.

  • @MMD1986 well that makes me sad but I appreciate your honesty!  It doesn't make sense if you can get the sperm right where it needs to be why doesn't  it land and implant.

Readung some people don't respond to the meds makes me nervous now too.  At this point I'm getting greedy and would like twins.  I thought I'd be on baby number 2 already and here I am trying for one still  :s

  • @Hopeful_mom
Sorry you find yourself here. As you can see from my signature, we did 3 IUIs. We thought for sure that one of them would do it but, unfortunately we're still trying. Despite everything about me being- in the Dr's words- "perfect" and DH's stats getting close to perfect after he went on clomid, still no babies.

@MMD1986 is right- IUI success rates can actually be lower then trying naturally. We decided to do 3 because we have time and are financially able to swing it, but we've gotten tired of the disappointing routine so we're moving on to IVF.

Some people stick it out for more IUIs- hell, someone on this forum finally got a BFP after IUI #6! I think it really depends on your situation. Some insurances don't cover IVF, but do cover IUIs, so some people just stick with IUI. Others see IUIs as a waste of time and resources so they go straight to IVF or only try one IUI before IVF.

Honestly, I didn't think I'd ever have to do something like IVF, but here we are, prepping. It's been a long and frustrating process, but I know one day it will all have been worth it.

  • Today is my first day of clomid + femara w/ injectibles on day 9. This is our second IUI. Should be good to go bf the end of June. I'm not looking forward to the meds - they made me extremely tired last month. I really thought we had it last time, my friends joked I'd end up with triplets (which I'd be thrilled with). We're also closing on a new house around the end of June, so I've got plenty to keep me busy. Hope we all get BFPs! It will raise my spirits seeing any of you ladies lucking out :)

  • @omarismyhomeboy Sorry to hear about AF, good luck to you next cycle!

@devilanne I also felt exhausted when I was on my meds, hoping this cycle won't be as bad!

I started Clomid Friday, just took my 3rd dose. RE wants me back in for another ultrasound Thursday. So far no side effects but there's still plenty of time for that ;)

  • Hi Anne! Congrats on the new house! :)

I'm 11 shots in this cycle and ouch the Cetrotide shot hurts a bit. Follow up U/S tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can trigger soon and don't have to more meds.

Someone once mentioned getting chocolates to eat after their shots. I like that idea.
  • Thanks all. I'll take the plain old hot flashes over the exhaustion any time!
How many of you doing IUI do two in a single cycle? My first one, our doc combined a fresh + frozen sample (from long ago bf chemo) and we had really good counts for the single procedure - 37 mil. But we have no more frozen so I was thinking of asking if we could freeze a sample earlier in the month to combine again (assuming they don't charge us a butt load for that). Is it better to do two samples in two separate procedures in the same cycle? Bet they'd charge me double for that too. Just wondering what the general opinion is.
  • LeFemmeViolette I just got through reading May IUI so i really see how it is, so frustrating.  I"m similar to you but have 10 years on u ;)  I guess I have to go write my stats up, but I've been trying since feb/march 2014.  I have a friend that has been sucessful with IUI and has been pushing me for months to go do it.  She did go through over a year of IUI for her 2nd one but she is due in august so there are some success stories.  I just think i've been trying so long on my own that each month it just kills me...I know u get it.  I wanted a baby not just yesterday but 5 years but its really the last 2years that i finally got OH on board.  it was never suppose to be this hard.  IVF doesn't seem like a walk in the park either.  Its a a lot...but my friend says YES it will be ALL WORTH IT and when you have the baby you actually forget this miserable part.  You wonder will your baby ever really understand how wanted they were!!!

right now i'm in my 2ww i just had the IUI but i cant say im feeling any different so i'm actually already looking ahead to what is next as well.

@marissy8 do you mind sharing how many mature follicles you had each time.  Trying to decide if i ask my dr to bump me up to 150 and try again or what.  I had 2 mature follicles round 1 and then 3 mature follicle round 2 and the round 3 just 1 :(  figures the one i get to do the IUI with.  Just frustrating when this all doesn't come together the way you want it.  Did my IUI June 10 was suppose to do another one on the 6/11 but I missed it...so hoping it still worked.  We are on the same cycle, sending u lots of baby dust and luck, hope we can see a BFP :)

  • Good morning everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has had cramping and soreness for a few days after an iui. I am 2 days past IUI and I am really sore and crampy. The IUI didn't hurt but I had some spotting and cramping the day of and the cramping and soreness hasn't really gone away. This is my 3rd IUI and I didn't have this with the last two.

    thanks!

@Hopeful_mom Your numbers look good. Typically RE's don't want more than three. For my second cycle, I was almost talked out of the IUI because the RE does not want me to have multiples. We assume more follicles are better, but having one beautifully matured follicle is great!

  • @omarismyhomeboy  - sorry about AF but I have a question for you as this is my first month using progesterone. Did you test after the TWW or did you wait for your period? My RE told me to test and then, if BFN, stop the progesterone so that AF would start.

  • Hi all have a question for through group after reading through the May IUI thread.

Ive been doing Clomid with the trigger shot, this is my 3rd round but first IUI with only one mature follicle so I'm not feeling as confident as I had 3 mature follicles the previous month, I was suppose to do an extra IUI but that became a miss so hoping the one I did 13hrs after the trigger shot worked!!.  Anyhoo I'm reading some posts mentioning injectables, do u feel that type of protocol is more successful? I think I have to do another IUI before trying ivf.  Who new baby making was this difficult.  Good luck everyone!

@marissy8 I know ur right I just feel like more then one gives u a better chance and I would live multiples at this point BUT of course will be happy with a healthy one to start ;)

  • LeFemmeViolette My fingers are totally crossed for you.  DH and I have a new fertility dr.  The RE we were seeing wasn't on the same page as we were so we had to go.  The doctor we have now is AMAZE-BALLS!  I absolutely love her.  This is our first round with this doctor and I used Clomid and Estrace and now I'm taking Progesterone pills.  The doctor said we can start testing this Friday!  Eeeeeeek!  I am so hopeful!  My heart is just happy.
    Me (39) | DH (41)
    Married: 5/31/2014
    TTC #1 since 10/2014
    SA: Count/Motility = Good/Decent; Morphology = 6%
    HSG: All clear
November 2015: 100mg of Clomid for 5 days, 1 -75mg injection of Follistim
4 mature follicles! - RE cancelled cycle (bummed)
Course of action is medication and TI
May 2016: 100mg Clomid for 5 days, Estrace for 5 days, Mucinex for DH and I during ovulation week, 100mg progesterone & a baby aspirin until I get BFN (so of course I'm hoping to have to continue taking them). DH is now also taking a multi-vitamin with Zinc.
Course of action is still medication and TI
  • @Hopeful_mom
I have heard that some people start testing a couple days after the trigger shot and then every day after and watch the line get lighter and lighter each time and eventually they get a negative test. Then you would know it is out of your system. I haven't tried this though!
  • @Hopeful_mom I did injectables this round, when I talked to my RE he said they see more success from them. They are much more expensive though so that's something to think about if you pay out of pocket.
  • AF is due tomorrow, tested today and BFN, which is my RE's protocol. I'm devastated. I'm not sure how I can afford any more treatments. I think I'm just going to sob intermittently throughout the day.

I was supposed to work today and was looking forward to it to help me keep my mind off this tww and of course I got called off l :(  what are you guys doing to keep your mind off things ??
    Trying to Conceive Ticker Anniversary
  • Sorry about your BFN @babymama619
@daboz- I need some suggestions for the tww also! I struggle every month with it.

Today was my last IUI (6 total) before moving to IVF. I'm not very hopeful that it will suddenly work, but I guess you never know. Today was the first time I had the nurse practitioner do it and it was pretty painful! Every other month with the RE has been pain free. I also had spotting after which I never do.
  • @LeFemmeViolette, what makes you say  IUI success rates can actually be lower then trying naturally? I'm still very new to this board and infertility in general.

  • @JDW0325 it's funny you mention that about testing I was kind of thinking of doing that this time but why bother I've never gotten a false positive yet so let's hope I can get an actual positive one on my own.  They say usually after 2w it's out of ur system and so far that has been true.  Where r u in ur cycle?

@Stars2016 I love ur kitty pic :) which u lots of luck!! Sow one did just get their BFP after IUI 6 so let hope that holds true for u too!!

@MMD1986 thx for the info I do have insurance but it's useless, I shouldn't say that BUT it doesn't cover what it should and I pay for way more then I should.  I do hate shots but it seems like with ivf there is a ton that goes along with it.

Sorry I got ur bfn, hang in there I kno how hard it is!! @babymama619

  • @babymama619  so sorry! hang in there!

@Hopeful_mom AF is due Saturday so I was going to wait to test until then. WAS is the key word. No way I will make it until then! I'm just scared of it being positive only because of the trigger shot so I know I shouldn't test. Don't know if I have the self control though. haha
  • @JDW0325 what number IUI is this? How r u feeling? I do get itchy to test too

@byrneme yup thats what I was told too! Although I had breakthrough bleeding on the progesterone towards the end. So I called my RE and she said to test. It was negative so I stopped altogether and the bleeding started.

    Good luck xoxo

@Stars2016 I love your ginger cat! I have one too :)
