Re: April/May IF success group

  • Thanks! Called the Dr and they said not to worry. See if she can feel him tonight and if not, she can always go in for a quick check tomorrow!

  • Hi everyone - hope everyone is doing well.

@dragonfaerie - I hope you're doing ok. It's completely normal to feel blue even during pregnancy.  If last longer than a weeks, try talking to your doctor.  I've had a few blue days myself, but thankfully they stay too long.  Hope you start feeling better soon and we are definitely here if you need additional support.

So exciting on the showers!  My family and friends are still figuring this out but likely I'll have a small one in my home state of MN in October (when I'm there for work) and then a bigger one in early Dec in DC.  I'm with you all on the nursery-- I left it all up to DH (with some basic instructions) and that means he is going to wait until late November to do it.  I'm trying to have patience!

We had a small scare last week - I went in for cervical length checkup, and my cervix has shortened to the point where I'm at risk for pre-term labor.  I got back in tomorrow for another checkup and if its shortened again, I may have to have cerclage and/or bed rest for the remaining of the pregnancy (I'm only 21 weeks now!) Last week the doctor placed me on modified bed rest (MBR) which means no exercise, long periods of walking, or sex.  She kept asking me if I was having any contractions and I was like "huh?" contractions, no I don't think so.   Then the next day I had some pains, and being freaked out and not really sure what it was, I went into labor and delivery.  Thankfully it was nothing (just the baby kicking my cervix) and they sent me home.  At least I'm familiar now with where I need to go when I deliver!  We will see how things go tomorrow!

Hope everyone else is doing well!  I have a good friend starting her first round of IVF tomorrow and just thinking of when we were all going through that!  Seems like ages ago!

  • Thank you everyone for the support. I'm starting to feel better, but I'm still not at 100%. I am prone to depression/anxiety anyway, so I struggle to deal with what ultimately, is a minor setback. We were down in Santa Fe from Friday-Monday, and then Monday afternoon, DH told his mom we'd go up to the mountains with her for her birthday this weekend. I completely lost it because I'm so tired and sore from not sleeping in my bed, and he agreed to the trip without talking to me first. I don't have a stellar relationship with my MIL so part of it is not wanting to inconvenience myself for her (which is not nice or fair, but there it is) but I also really was looking forward to a relaxing weekend at home where I could go to church, clean my house, work on baby stuff, and just rest. DH did apologize, but there's no way to get out of the trip without further hurting my relationship with MIL, so I have to suck it up. It just left me feeling like a bad person and I am struggling to move past it.

Hi @dragonfaerie - You are not a bad person for not wanting to go away for the weekend, regardless of the reason. You have the ultimate excuse, though, and doing something that you aren't mentally or physically ready to do could further hurt your relationship with your MIL because you might resent her more because of it (maybe that's just me). Can DH go without you? Could you celebrate with MIL for dinner before or after the trip? My DH is responsible for MIL management and sometimes little white lies are necessary for the health of the family. We've been married a long time and no matter what, our little growing family comes first. We have to do what makes sense for our larger family dynamic, but sometimes we need to be a little selfish with our time. If you do end up going, I hope you and DH are able to enjoy the scenery and the attention your bump gets.  :)

Edited to add that I'm a lurker.

  • @dragonfaerie - I think you are totally justified in wanting a little down time to yourself. Plus DH definitely should have checked with you first (especially since you are pregnant).

  • @dragonfaerie I understand completely. And sleeping in your own bed makes a difference when ur pregnant. Hopefully DH in the future will consult you with future trips back to back
  • @mrygoround I don't feel like I can decide not to go, since it would damage the relationship as well. It was more about him not considering my feelings and just being so tired.

I just need to move past the whole situation. It will get better and this weekend will be fine.

  • @dragonfaerie you're completely justified for being upset. I agree your husband should have checked with you and that you do have the ultimately excuse right now. Sleeping in your own bed and resting is very important. Hopefully the trip will go by quickly and peacefully so you can get home quickly to rest and enjoy the comfort of your own bed.

  • Thank you everyone for loving on me. I am feeling back to my old self today. Happy First Day of Fall!!

@Griffin5413 I have managed to get two nights in a row of VERY good sleep and my hips haven't been hurting, so I am feeling a lot more positive. It's amazing how a good night's sleep can change your whole outlook. :)

@mrygoround It seems like it is going to be rainy, but that just means a quiet weekend in the mountains instead of at home. And there is an art festival on Sunday so if it's not frigid, that will be fun to walk around.

  • Hi everyone. @Drove2u I like the shower ideas. My friend Kate has offered to have a shower here in Houston. I don't think I will have one back in CT. My father in law and mother in law helped us paint the  baby room. It's a sage green kind of color. I can't remember if I posted a picture. We bought a dresser and crib. I was able to find a gently use 4 moms swing from Craigslist. I think we are good for now. I attempted to register and did ask some friends what they used the most. @dragonfaerie I hope you are feeling better soon. Depression and anxiety can be amplified in pregnancy. We are here if you need an online ear.
@Knottie1432834683 I'm glad you are getting rest. That sounds scary. We are headed to Seattle for the weekend to visit some friends. Looking forward to the cooler weather. Glad you guys are around for support and to chat. It's been nice. I too had baby boy move a bit for awhile and now he he seems to be less active. He's still moving so I guess all is good. Pregnancy has its joys but it sure can be anxiety provoking at times. Hope you all had a great day!
  • Hi everyone!

@dragonfaerie- happy you're feeling better.  Hope you get the MIL situation figured out for this weekend!

@Joyzie77 I am also looking for a 4moms swings on craigslist.  My friend bought a gently used one and said that was the way to go!  Love the nursery!

AFM - at my appt my cervix shortened a little but still a few centimeters away from doing anything more severe. I got back in one week for another measurement. Still on modified bed rest.   And in more exciting news, I have been terrified to make my Facebook announcement.  I'm not really sure why -- the crazies in me, but at 21w2d we finally made the announcement via our dogs tonight. :-)

There are 3 of us in my office having babies this year (1 Oct, 1 Nov & me in Dec) so they are doing a joint baby shower for all of us today. I know it's early but b/c the one girl is due in like 3 weeks we are doing it today. It should be a lot of fun and it's so nice of our office to do that for us. Plus sharing the spotlight will make the day less stressful. It's crazy that we are already at the point of planning showers and all of those fun things. I can't believe next week I'm in the 3rd trimester.

  • I've been busy with work.  We have a lot of other stuff going on as well and I really need to slow down.  Anyway,  last night I noticed a new pregnancy symptom that I didn't think would happen for another month or two.  My ankles were swollen.  It was wasn't that big of a deal,  but I was just wondering if that has happened to anyone else and what you did. I already looked it up. I just didn't know if this is the kind of thing that would get worse later on.
  • @LynnNJ How far along are you again? My feet got swollen around 20 weeks because I was standing and walking for several hours. But it went down once I got home and put my feet up for a bit (with no socks and shoes on.) Make sure you drink lots of water to help flush your system.

I have been soaking them a few nights a week with epsom salts and trying to keep them elevated when I am at home at the end of the day. @dragonfaerie -how did the weekend go? How are you feeling?

Totally agree on the feet swelling -- drink as much H2O as possible and elevate your feet when you can :-)

Love all the photos and diaper cakes!  Too cute!  I'm on the fence whether to do a co-ed shower or girls only shower. I really think having the guys there makes it more relaxed and fun and not so frilly.  Plus, we are both going to be needing all the gifts for the baby!  Then again having all girls is also kind of fun and gives a different vibe. What do you guys think?

Other than that, I go in for my weekly cervical check on Friday -- hopefully it is still closed and has not shortened by much so that the baby can keep cooking!

  • I love the idea of a coed shower. It ends up being more of a party than an  awkward shower. Ideally I wanted a coed one but then the party would've ended up like a wedding. :-( we already have 80 women invited to the shower so doubling that would've been super expensive!

  • @MelD17011 - fx for you! Praying for you and your LO!!!

@Knottie1432834683 - let us know how your appt goes on Friday!

We are having a coed shower b/c we are traveling back to CA for it and I didn't want DH to leave for the day when his mom and sis would be at the shower. Plus it made it easier to fit in everyone we always have to see when we head out there. I agree though that it should make everything a little more relaxed. We are doing a Baby-Q with burgers and stuff on the grill.

  • Knottie1432834683 The weekend went well. My MIL is a super anxious back seat driver, and I finally snarked at her that DH has a perfect driving record and she is making me anxious so she needs to stop gasping and commenting. That helped and the rest of the weekend was good. :) Thank you!

Personally, I want a girls-only shower. I like all the cheesy party games and opening gifts so everyone can oo and ahh and men generally don't want to do that stuff. In my mind, if the focus is supposed to be on Momma and Baby, then when it turns into a big party, the focus shifts slightly and you don't necessarily get the attention you deserve. Everyone is different though and I've seen both co-ed and girls-only work for the couple.

@Drove2u I would have had close to that number of women, but we decided to split it into a "family" group and a "friends" group. My friends are a bit more rowdy, so it works out to keep them away from the grandmas and others that might be easily annoyed/offended.

    ---Trigger warning---

  • So my shower invite went out and I'm so excited. I feel like a stalker checking the registry every time I get an e-mail that something has been purchased to see what's been bought. I can't believe my shower will be here in just a little over a month!

  • @tulips29 where did you register? I didn't know some stores do notifications. For buy buy baby I keep checking manually like 10 times a day. And then squeal when something is bought. Lol. I stalk it too.
  • @Drove2u I did mine through Baby List. It's an app/site that allows you to add items from different places, so I've got a bunch from buy buy baby, a bunch from Amazon and so on. They send me an e-mail every time saying "someone is getting you something" and I have to check right away lol.
