**Official Labor Watch Thread**

*** Taken from N15, J16 and A16 ***

Did your water break? Lose your mucus plug? Sitting in L&D? Are you being induced and worried? C-section? VBAC? Have a question about L&D? Or maybe you just want to tell us what's going on. Cool.

***
Hey ladies, I figured we could maybe use this thread to post whether we have started labor or contractions or if we are heading to L&D instead of flooding the board with separate threads. Some of us have reached 36 weeks and beyond, but hopefully the tiny humans will keep cooking for a little longer.

So if you have any questions or thoughts, fire away!

Re: **Official Labor Watch Thread**

  • I'm 35 weeks, being induced next Saturday the 16th, 4 weeks early. They are concerned about my placenta as the baby isn't gaining as she supposed to. They estimate she has gained 5 oz in 2 weeks and weighs 4 pounds 3 oz. She is also breech. They are encouraging me to try and flip her with exercise techniques. Nervous and excited at the same time.

Sorry had to edit ( in a really bad way lol) because I made a bufu. My comment is below. Sorry peeps.x

  • I've been having constant contractions for the last 2 weeks at least. I was 2cm at my last appointment, but high and thick. I'm also  pretty sure I have a small leak.  The L&D nurses shrugged it off because the test came back negative.  I just don't even know what to do there. I mean, they tell you to come in if you're leaking, but just ignore it if you happen to not be leaking enough for it to show up on their test? And of course it's a weekend, so I can't just call my Dr. I'd have to call L&D and that's not going to go anywhere.  Luckily, the head nurse lives a few houses down from me, so I figured I'd go talk to her about it. And when I say small leak, I mean small.  No gushes at all and its not enough to fill a liner.  But a few times a week I can smell amniotic fluid.  Today was the most I've had and it was more like I woke up sweaty, and I definitely wasn't sweating. I really hate having my concerns brushed off like I'm an idiot.  You'd think by #8, I'd know wtf I'm talking about. If the leaking seems worse tomorrow, I'm so going back in.

#8 does this mean baby number 8?
  • @SweetBriarBee amniotic fluid should be odorless. What does it smell like to you? Not to say you really aren't experiencing leaking, but I usually wake up with a lot of discharge and I think that's pretty normal.

  • I had an eventful evening. I was having contractions every 8-12 minutes for 2 hours before they finally calmed down. I don't know what caused it to start, but after getting home, laying on the couch, and drinking more water helped them stop. I'm only 35w, she needs to stay put for another month!

  • So after the menstrual cramping and serious pelvic pressure started two nights ago and have continued constantly through today, last night I started having contractions. They started about 8 minutes apart and then progressed over the course of three hours to 2 minutes apart. I was super uncomfortable, and they say to come into L&D if you've had more than 5 in an hour, so I decided to go drive myself to the hospital since, ya know, I'm by myself...that was fun. Got there and they put me on the monitor and they did see my contractions, the nurse goes "wow, those are some pretty big ones", so they check me. Yeah, moved from a "dimple" to a 1. So they started me on IV fluids to see if that would stop them even though I told them I drink upwards of 5 liters of water a day. Still no luck. So after 5 hours there, plus 3 hours at home of contractions coming every 2 minutes, they check me again and I'm still at a 1 so they consider them BH due to not making any progress. I'm thinking good Lord please help me if these are BH and what I will experience for 6-8 more weeks (I'm 34w1d). The nurse came in and said she paged the ultrasound tech on call because with every contraction baby's heart rate would fall and when the contraction would end it would come back up, she just wanted to make sure everything was ok. So, ultrasound tech came in, pushed all over my belly real hard while I continued to have contractions, and said that baby couldn't have looked more perfect (thank God). They took me off the IV fluids and said I could go home since baby looked fine and since my contractions weren't dilating me further. I asked them wtf I'm supposed to do about these contractions that were STILL hitting me hard every two min and asked how much longer I should expect them to continue. They looked at me dumbfounded and told me "you're not supposed to have more than 5 an hour, so if you have more than 5 an hour come back". Uhm, that's why I've been here for 5 hours and that's why I came here to begin with. They stayed steady through the evening until around an hour ago where they started slowing down to about 5 mins apart. Guess this is just something I'm going to have to deal with for the next several weeks since the professionals didn't have any answers for me.
  • @ncm0328 : have they put anything else in your IV? I ended up in L&D last Saturday with contractions every 2 min, which has now been explained by a irritable uterus/developing stomach flu. They initially just have me fluids and an antibiotic in case baby did decide to show up, but after I was unable to sleep because of how uncomfortable I was, they recommended to add a small dose of morphine and gravol to the mix. Well 10 min later I was fast asleep, and the contractions finally calmed down. I have continued to have some over the week, but not as close together. I was asked to go back to L&D last night for a NST, and everything was fine (no contractions at all).
  • @KidShrink they didn't suggest anything, no. I'm severely allergic to all narcotics, so that was out, and I'm just assuming they really didn't care too much about stopping the contractions since they weren't progressive in terms of dilating me and since baby wound up handling them fine...but that really sucks for me because they're still going on. Glad you got some relief! I hope yours continue to stay far far away until it's time for baby!

What I meant was #8 signifying that you are about to have bubba numba 8?
  • @ncm0328 I went into preterm labor at 27 weeks (almost 8 weeks ago) and they gave me medications to stop the contractions, but all it did was stop the contractions from affecting my cervix from dilating and further. So for the past 8 weeks, I've had strong steady contractions day in and day out .. With NO changes to my cervix.. My case is deffinitely extreme and I hope your contractions do stop, because I hate the idea of going to 40+ weeks with these contractions :( so good luck !!

Mine has never been odorless. It's the one thing the dh and I have noted since #1.  Mine smells like super strong semen.  I would chalk it off as semen if the dh worked at home, but he doesn't.  He's gone 25 days out of the month.  Also, no discharge, it's just wet, like I've peed myself, only it doesn't smell like pee.  It's confusing and I don't even know what to do about because I feel like if it's not a solid gushing, then no one cares.  Of all my pregnancies (yes, baby #8), this is the first time I've had this before labor. It's the only reason I even mentioned it to the nurses.

Last night I had contraction all through the night, they were keeping me awake, and we're 10 minutes apart. They never did get any closer and then they just stopped.  This morning the leaking was just slightly less than yesterday and I haven't noted as much throughout the day as yesterday.  So maybe it's like a higher pinhole type leak? Is that possible?

I'm sorry I posted twice, it was a mistake, I edited it the first time and wasn't sure if it appeared. The only reason I asked was because I'm due bubba #7, and I just felt happy that I wasn't the only one not expecting 1/2/3.....  No offence meant.x

@SweetBriarBee I would get it checked out as that's what brings me in here being induced at 36 weeks.. I think they went two weeks ago as I remember asking and being reassured it was just normal - wasn't till they did internal and scan that they could see waters had broken and low fluid

That's not to worry you my baby seems ok and that was two weeks back-

current problem is bored out of my mind and unable to sleep in this busy ward! Hoping to get moved to own room in morning..

wish me a sunday baby guys!!

  • @bigmomma14  No offense at all. You'd have to be a pretty big twatwaffle to offend me. :)

@salbb We checked fluid on Wednesday and it's at 12cm, so dr says everything is fine.

@hellogoodbye2 Going into labor on my own, 37 weeks was the earliest and 39 weeks was my latest.  The rest were in-between there whether on my own or induced.
  •  :D  @SweetBriarBee the word twatwaffle still makes me chuckle.

I've never had leaking waters before, they have always "just gone"  in full labor. But that's why I asked you about how many babies u've had, because the more you have the more likely to expect the unexpected.
so from slow trickling waters, to a fast delivery, I'm trying to prepare myself for anything!!!
maybe I missed it, but how many weeks are you now?
its the "not knowing part" that's difficult.
I hope by today ur contractions have slowed down, and that ur not experiencing any more leakage.x
  • @SweetBriarBee Well, at least you know now! Is your husband home? Fingers crossed that things start moving along on their own!
  • @JessicaB0627  He made it home at midnight!  Perfect timing.  Baby knew it needed to be today.  ;)
Awesome!! I hope everything goes smoothly!
