I feel like I'm spying by reading the FTM check-in, and I just love it so much. It still feels surreal to be among the second time moms on this board.. all of the fears/excitement/questions are so familiar to me. I've said it before and I'll say it again - this is such a great group.
@AnnaS930 Two in diapers is my husband's complaint, too. I do the majority of the diapers since I'm a SAHM (he's great with helping when he is home, just the mere fact I'm home with her all day means they fall on me more often), but I don't think changing more diapers is his worry. He's much more concerned with the price of buying diapers for two. He's the money worrier of the two of us. But we're going to have two in diapers for a while and there is no getting around it.
@ammcc12 Go for the earliest they can get you in! Friday the 13th isn't anything but a date!
First, I ate almost an entire box of mac and cheese (the gross powdered kind) for lunch. DD got some for her lunch, and I couldn't quite finish the last 4 or 5 bites of what was left. But it was close. More than I'd eat normally.
Second, the baby gave me a really good kick or punch last night. I was trying to determine if I was feeling it fluttering away last night when I got a hard kick. It actually caused me to jump because I wasn't expecting it. Can't wait to be feeling that more frequently!
I don't even want to think about potty training my 16 month old any time soon. She will be 22 months when this one is born so it will definitely be an after newborn tiny baby stage thing for us! My husband yesterday was like "when should we start potty training Allie?" She is showing no signs or interest yet so I'm not thinking any time soon.
My random for the day is I cannot get enough cookout food. Like hotdogs, BBQ chicken, baked beans, chips, pasta salad, ANYTHING cookout related sounds so good to me!! Nothing else sounds good at all haha
I'm having a pregnancy brain moment. I'd like to talk to my dr about the pain I've been having but can't think of a more appropriate way to say, my crotch hurts and aches like it's falling out of my body. I'm assuming it's rlp? but want to ask him about it anyway and would like to refrain from sounding awful. I can't word, please help
@Steephers123 That doesn't really sound like RLP to me, but that's not saying it isn't. RLP for me and those I've talked to usually is a sharp poke or pull in the uterus, not the vagina/crotch, that happens when you change position quickly, sneeze, or stretch. It isn't a constant pain. Since you're already calling your DR, they will have the best advice for you. When you say "feels like it's falling out", do you mean it feels like it's tearing away or that is feels like it's being painfully dragged down? However you word it, take comfort in the fact that your DR is a medical professional and probably hears all kinds of crazy things to try to describe something as nebulous as pain. You are practically guaranteed to not be the weirdest thing he's heard!
My yoga pants are tight today and they are making me crabby. They have been making me crabby since 9:30 and I'm too lazy to do anything about it.
Also, I'm another mom of a Friday the 13th baby. That girl is the luckiest little thing. I did get a little freaked about having her on the 13th, but as someone else said, it was nothing but a date.
@Jabreen Thanks for the reassurance! It's more like painfully being dragged down, and it's usually after sitting for a long-ish time. When I get up I have to hobble around. I guess if not rlp then maybe just from my pelvis/hips spreading?
@PSUBecky23 I was thinking the same thing yesterday morning when it literally took me 30 mins to find an outfit to wear. I was literally going to lose my mind!! I usually try to pick it out the night before, but I HATED it!!
in the past, I've had the best luck with clothes from H&M or even Target.
@Steephers123- that second explanation is exactly what I would tell my doctor's office "Hey, I just want to run this by my OB/midwife - it might be completely normal during pregnancy but it's uncomfortable so I'd like a professional opinion... after sitting for a long time I feel downward pulling pain in my pelvic area that causes me to hobble/limp around a bit after standing. I can't tell if it's my pelvis/hips spreading or possibly something of concern"
WOW!!!! I just received chocolate dipped strawberries from a member I did some very quick data research for. Our group didn't have to do the data run but since he had worked with the previous department like five years ago and the task was super easy I did it. 99% of the time when we work with MD's for research it is part of a larger project and our names go on the paper too. This was just a quick data slice and dice, we have never received a gift from anyone and never really expected one. I'm just so blown away and thankful. Since I did the work and the doc sent them to me they are "mine" lol, there was 12 and I shared with my little group of 5 and will be bring the rest home. So happy
@jhems776- A little recognition really goes a long way! I recently helped the state of Iowa (who my company also is contracted with) on processing requests for HepC medications, since that's some of my specialty for my state. After about 6 months of helping out they seem to be on their feet and able to handle the requests on their own. The supervisor sent a thank you to me publicly through our company Chatter (like twitter) along with a $25 gift card!!! I was so overjoyed!!! I turned it into a Target card and bought some new flats to wear with my prego lady leggings!
@Steephers123 it doesn't sound like RLP, it sounds like lightning crotch I've had it since 12 weeks and different positions will make it worse. Sitting down for a long time makes my crotch hurt a lot! And lying on my right side makes the pain shoot up to my cervix so I called my doctor one night about it. He said the crotch pain is completely normal from stretching of ligaments and the relaxin hormone and that it gets worse if baby presses on a nerve or simply the weight of the uterus. The cervix pain I had seems to be a result of the heavy uterus weighing on a nerve when I'm in different positions.
Thanks for the reassurance ladies! I don't think I would have thought anything about it if the lady I was scheduling with didn't say something about it.

I think you should just describe it how ever you can. You wouldn't be the first to forget words when you're talking to the doctor. I also don't think it sounds like RLP.
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom Mine has never been a shooting pain, so I didn't even think of lightning crotch! Aah pregnancy, always so glamorous
Yeah, the crotch pain for me isn't a shooting pain, it feels like my crotch is sore and tender (only it's not tender to the touch) and it hurts to walk. I asked my go-to friend for pregnancy related things and she asked me if it felt like an electric jolt and it totally doesn't for me. I'd still call if I were you. When I called, I just told him my labia and the area around it was sore and it hurt a lot when I stood up. Something like that
@steephers123 I had something similar in my last pregnancy. It started around 20 weeks. My pelvic bone would hurt so badly when I'd stand up after sitting for a while and I'd hobble for the first 10-15 steps after getting up. Unfortunately for me it lasted the rest of pregnancy. It was my entire pelvis, but mainly my pubic bone. They sent me to down to physical therapy to see if there was a belly band support of some type that might help. Didn't have it with my first, and not so far this time.
I'm so sick and tired of gaining weight every time I exercise or do a lot of moving around. I know it's fluid because it happens reliably when I exert myself (I can feel myself swelling up) and I'm not eating nearly enough to account for it, calorie-wise, but it rarely comes back off like exercise-induced water weight gain should.
I've gained 3 pounds in 2 days just from cleaning up around the house (de-cluttering closets and moving clothes from room to room to make room for the babies' stuff in the soon-to-be nursery) and a little bit of shopping.
My blood pressure is fine (low most of the time), so it's not pre-e. I'm just retaining fluid like crazy (and almost all in my belly, with some in my hands and my right foot...only my right foot for some reason).
My doctor's not concerned, but it's driving me up the wall. I've felt like a beachball since yesterday.

That sounds like what I'm going through, but I assume mine is a pelvic thing, because my crotch aches. If it's bad, it's called Symphysis pelvic disfunction (SPD). I'm bringing it up to my doc on Monday.

I'm so sorry to read that @SarahMConnors! I agree with what others have said in that I hope it is just a blessing in disguise. Good luck with your raise!!!
Married: 3/21/15 First time mom to a human but have been a puppy mamma for over 12 years
@MojieJo this is me exactly. Gain what must be water weight, but it doesn't fall back off, it waits around for a week the I gain a couple more overnight one night. Happened to me last pregnancy too and all evened out at the end (had to elevate feet a lot for swelling throughout) and after delivery all back to normal within a couple weeks.
I'm really hoping this means a lot of it will drop off soon after delivery since it's clearly fluid and not "real" weight.
I know it's not a big deal as long as my blood pressure stays down, but it's so frustrating! It makes me want to sit on my butt all day (or, better yet, lay down), but I know I need to get some light exercise.
Thanks @blondie080300! And all the other ladies here who said kind things!
My boss basically went back into denial land today, and I got really upset. She then backpedaled and said she will talk to her husband tonight and see what they can do, even if it's only a little bit. I reminded her that I didn't intend to have this second job as long as I did, that I didn't forsee being let go and the only reason I had the other job was to compensate for the lesser pay until she gave me the raise she promised when she hired me. I also reminded her that I didn't ask for an astronomical number- I wanted her to come up with 1/3 of what I made at the other job, which is super reasonable, and I would at least be able to breathe. If not, I need to find another second job, and who the heck is going to hire me now, between my limited schedule because of my full-time job and being pregnant? *sigh* Hoping she at least tries. I even offered to take on more work and hours for her and her husband to make it worth while (even though I really, really shouldn't have to, I already go above and beyond at work I swear). *sigh*
@SarahMConnors It makes me mad that you even have to try and offer these comprises to get them to pay you what they promised. It's not fair and I would normally advise you not to but I know you are really in a tough spot right now. Tugging at their heartstrings might be the best play...
But just so you know, not everyone discriminates against hiring pregnant women. One of my best friends was offered a job (and she wasn't even looking) and when she told them she was pregnant, they worked with her on it and hired her immediately which poached her from her then current employer lol. So keep your head up and know your worth. Please try not to settle because it seems easiest.

Since the update to the app, the days pregnant I am changes multiple times within the day. This morning I was 18 weeks 2 days, then 3 days, now it says 4 days. Is anyone else having this happen?
Thanks @blondie080300 The only reasons I'm trying as hard is I really do love my job- managing a non-profit art museum is a pretty awesome gig, and it's only 15 minutes from home as opposed to commuting over an hour into NYC to do the same job. The other reason is because it's definitely tight now. I do love my boss- she's brilliant and sweet, just very cheap despite the fact that she's loaded. I figure I'll do what I have to, and definitely keep my eyes peeled, just in case. As long as I can stay local and do something I like, I'm in lol! The stupid thing is if I tried to leave for another job, I think she would freak out badly and offer me more money very quickly. She knows I'm in a bind- I don't really have a good bargaining chip to use at the moment with her. It's definitely reassuring to know that your friend got hired while pregnant! Not all hope is lost lol!

My swelling when I was pregnant for my daughter was always worse on my right side, too. My OB said it was probably from her putting more pressure on that side. She always hung out on my right side, so it made sense.
I didn't notice water weight gain until my last couple weeks. I put on 8 lbs in 2 weeks, and I'm convinced that was all water retention. My swelling was insane. It was frustrating, but it came off within a week of birth, unlike the fat gain, so there is that silver lining.
Yesterday we went to an expectant and new mom event, and they had on-site ultrasounds. DH agreed to let me get one, and we found out we are Team Pink again! However, we aren't sharing with anyone IRL until we confirm it at the a/s. (I just keep thinking about how, on my first BMB, two different babies were girls at an elective then boys at the a/s.)
Ugh, my son has had a runny nose and a cough for over 2.5 weeks now and I feel like it's possibly getting worse (definitely not better). I've been riding it out as a cold but my husband and I have to go away for the weekend (stupid NYC trip) and I just can't leave him with my parents not knowing if it's something more serious. Got him an doctor's appointment at 9:45 this morning and my husband is going to leave work to take him. I just emailed him the timeline of all of this to make sure he conveys exactly what's going on. I've had a hard time listening to his lungs with my stethoscope because he hates it and holds his breathe when I try (stinker) and also because I'm not trained to know what to listen for (I have it to take blood pressure with).
Feeling like they'll probably just say it's a virus but at least I'll know. Why does timing have to be so poor with things like this? He's always sick when there's a trip/birthday party/something going on. If we weren't going away for the weekend I'd wait it out a couple more days and head to the doctor's over the weekend if he worsened. UGH!!!! Can you tell I'm frustrated? My kid is always sick, always. We don't smoke, we have a super clean house, etc etc. I've got the kid with a profile full of antibiotics at the pharmacy that I used to side-eye the parents. Boo.
@camichael84Ahhh! Congrats on the news - and what a wonderful surprise to have it happen like that!!
So, on the subject of swelling. Everyone says to put your feet "up" to combat it. This may be a dumb question but what does that mean, exactly? Do I have to lie back with my feet propped above the rest of my body? Or can something as simple as a stool under my desk at work help? (In that case, feet would be "up" from the floor but still the lowest part of my body...)

Professional maternity clothes? Do they exist? Anyone? Bueller?
I need professional enough for a courtroom. Struck out today. Went to Gymboree and spent too much on clothes for my daughter.
