OMG. I think it was during Food and Wine Festival this year at Epcot and they were there for a concert thing in the park and happened to be playing as we walked by. I was really confused bc at the time I had no clue they were even still a thing... But yes, I also had a slight obsession with them when I was younger. lol.

What!?! Kudos to your willpower! I can turn down a lot of things, but not a donut.
Ok sorry to get political but I can't stop thinking about the election and it's the millionth republican debate tonight so it's topical... I CANNOT wrap my mind around the fact that Trump will in all liklihood get the republican nomination. It scares the hell out of me that my baby could be born in a year that DONALD TRUMP is elected president. I saw this meme yesterday and laughed slash got scared:
Anyway, the UO part is that as horrible as I think Trump is, it doesn't reassure me that Cruz could be the alternative. For as psychotic and racist and dangerous as Trump's promises are, I think Cruz would be potentially more damaging as president.

Agreed. It's very scary. He's a sexist, racist pig. Hilary Clinton isn't a much better option and I don't see Bernie Sanders beating her out.

About 6 years ago I worked at an ad agency that was working with Hanson on a commercial... whenever the agency had anyone famous around they would do an "artist in residence" and everyone could come hear the person or group speak/sing/whatever. Hanson performed their new album and everyone was chanting "Mmm Bop! Mmm Bop!" and they REFUSED to play it, saying they were only going to do their new stuff. SO LAME.
I think it is disgusting that my hometown's newspaper listed EVERY single town employee with their name and salary. I understand that if you work in public service you are paid by the taxpayers and they do have a right to know where their taxes are going, but to put it right there in the centerfold...yuck! The information was always available, but you had to search for it. But now, anyone can just open up the paper and see "Oh, So-and-So, a third grade teacher makes that much? And they are in bargaining for a 2% raise? No way!" Of course, that doesn't take into account that this teacher has 2 master's degrees, has been working for the school for 30 years, works WAAAAY beyond 40 hrs a week, and busts their butt doing all sorts of extra-curriculars which they get a tiny stipend for. Also, I think it is in poor taste for other employees to see, spelled out in black and white, what their colleagues make. I am all for transparency in government, but I think when it comes to personal salaries, I don't see a need for a certain number to be associated with a specific name.
My suggestion: make a graph that shows "In the school district, we have X number of educators with master's degrees who have X number years experience making between $X-$Y per year, including stipends for department heads/extracurricular activities" That gives taxpayers all the info they need and deserve without veering into tacky or invasive territory.

Same! I never got to go to one of their concerts, and then a few years ago they announced that they were going to be playing at the State Fair. My sister and I were super excited...and then we found out that it was canceled due to illness. We were so bummed.
As terrible as I find some of the artists/bands that the kids these days are obsessing over (The Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, to whatever today's obsession is), I just keep trying to remind myself of my Hanson days. I'm pretty sure we drove the older generation nuts back then, too. :P

@amberraysofdawnwell if it makes you feel better about missing Hanson, they wouldn't have done the classics anyway because according to them, they've moved past it.
I was the same way with New Kids on the Block. OBSESSED. But my mom would never take me to see them initially. Now that they've reunited, I've seen them four times!
@laurenmdrn16 Texas Tribune goes even further on state employees and lists more than just name and salary. If I remember, I think they had my start date and a few other trinkets of info. I will say one thing - it led to me really hating my job when I saw how inequitable salaries were in my office when I worked at that job. I've always worked in budget/finance and have been able to see salaries. Of all the jobs I've worked, I've actually found the jobs with women in director/top dog positions had much more equitable salaries. When it was a man, not so much. I read an article recently in the New York Times where young women in college think women have "made it," and don't really understand why an older generation wants to see a woman president. They are so naive. Wait until you enter the workforce, young ladies. We're still paid much less than our male counterparts.
Although I think they are delicious, I can always turn down donuts. The resulting sugar crash/general nasty feeling afterwards just isn't worth it to me.

Another great meme I saw:
My sister is obsessed with adult coloring. I have thought about it but haven't gone there yet. It seems like a better alternative than looking at my iPod screen while sitting on the couch, though!
When I was younger I thought it would be awesome to be famous. Now I think it sounds miserable.
My husband always makes fun of Sia for never showing her face when she's on tv. I think it's genius. Sure, people think she's weird but what does she care? She has all of the perks of being famous ($$$) and none of the downfalls (lack of privacy, because no one knows what she looks like!)
Ok, I try not to get political on here, but I will today.
This may not be an UO on TB, but it definitely is where I live. I had to stand in line for 2 hours to vote on Tuesday. I couldn't help but be annoyed that I was probably surrounded by Trump supporters. And when I checked how the Republican part of the primary voted in my state the next day, sure enough, every. single. county in my state went to that gasbag.
There was a wreck on the interstate the other day, and a lady was trying to merge in front of me. She had a giant Trump sticker on the back of her car. I did not let her merge. #passiveaggressive

That's hilarious... and doesn't seem all that far fetched unfortunately. I haven't even really watched any shenanigans with politics because I literally can't believe my eyes when I look at the TV and see Trump and presidential elections BS on the same shot. I just can't. America has really let me down. Quite pathetic and sad actually. I think I will build a bunker and not come out until the next election and pray to God we have better candidates. -_-

Whenever I see people with Trump stickers I always want to stare and get a good look. I don't know a single person remotely supporting Trump. Who are these mysterious creatures??
I actually don't mind Trump. Cruz is creepy as hell, Rubio looks like a baby, Carson (does anyone even care about him anymore?) is an idiot, and Hilary is an evil, evil person. I'd be happy with either Trump or Sanders.

I read that Google searches for "how to move to Canada" spiked after the results of Super Tuesday. Come on up north, ladies! It's cold, but it's pretty and we are super friendly!

I guess my second UO is I don't get why people do stuff like this based on people's political opinions. I think we're very fortunate to live in a society that allows us to have differing opinions and elect our leaders, and those differences should be celebrated as one of the things that make our country great. Being free to have your own thoughts and opinions is a wonderful thing.

I will tell you this lady looked very....unkempt. She was also very frazzled and was like throwing her hands up as she was trying to merge.
But this is what scares me. I don't know any Trump supporters either, and I feel everyone says they don't know any Trump supporters. But they are out there because he is winning! I feel like there has to be this large undercurrent of people who SAY they think Trump is crazy, but deep down they are voting for him.

Well to be honest, I did feel a little silly doing that. And I agree with you that it's wonderful that we live in a place where we can voice differing opinions. But Trump doing a lot more than voicing a differing opinion. He has made blatant bigoted and racist remarks.
As someone with a teaching degree and a husband who is a teacher...I always have mixed feelings when I see teachers go on strike/ heated negotiations regarding salaries--specifically when the issue is a pay freeze. I was a long-term sub for 6 months in a special ed classroom when the district I was in was dealing with this. I was getting $80/day before taxes and was always the last person who left at the end of the day. I wanted to scream at everyone...but the worst part was that it was either take a pay freeze, or 4 aide positions would be cut. Well of course the aide jobs got cut. It made me sick to my stomach to see a girl I worked closely with lose her job. When my husband got a job after SIX year long sub positions, I told him he better never strike over a salary issue. We've been in the "it could be worse" boat & I would never want someone to suffer because of me/him.
On the other hand--- I TOTALLY know the ridiculous hours teachers put in outside of school and how hard the job is in the first place. So I'm always torn when I see it in the news.
Not an UO but wanted to jump into the Trump talk...
My mom is a Trump supporter. Imagine that! An abrasive person supporting another abrasive person. Last week, she took offense to Rubio's attacks of Trump during and after the debate, and said how "low" the campaigns have gotten. Funny, I never heard her say this when Trump was the only one attacking. I hate how Trump supporters are ok with his daily insults, but the second he gets his, they are up in arms. I think it shows a lot of the maturity level of a lot of the voters and supporters he has.
If The Donald is voted in:
I will say I am Republican, and plan on voting in the primary. But if The Donald is my candidate I will be sitting out this general election because I cannot with a clear conscience vote for the "lesser of two evils"
Although the last two times I have voted, the other candidate won. So MAYBE I should vote for Trump in hopes that I am bad luck and he looses? HA!
Well, I guess my UO today, based on everything on here, is that I don't think Hilary Clinton is "evil" or a touch above "a racist, sexist pig" - in fact I think she is the most competent candidate for commander-in-chief, with the best record and the most concrete step forward for this country.
Also, apparently an UO in the wider America based on the votes on Super Tuesday, I hate that the Republican party has become three grown men making fun of each other's faces, sweat glands and penises. It's discouraging to see the predominant candidates for president on one side of the political spectrum devolve into their grade school selves and have people applaud (and laugh, and immortalize with impunity) this. I get that people are super critical of "political correctness" or whatever these days ... but is this how you want politicians, or really, any adults, to act? Particularly when those adults could be determining policy at a federal level and are tasked with leading a country that right now is in a war?
I'm a terrible, terrible person. This is long, but I need to get it out.
We (well, mostly my wife) have acquired a "friend" who is an adult with special needs. I say "friend" in quotes because she gets far more out of the relationship than either me or my wife does. Long story short, the connection was made by a childhood friend of my wife's, who also has special needs, who attended school with this other girl, in the area we moved to a couple years ago. Childhood friend no longer lives in the area, but this other girl does (we'll call her L), and she put my wife in touch.
Anyway. I get that L doesn't have a lot of friends, lives a pretty lonely life, and I do feel for her. She's a sweet person, but she just doesn't get that we work demanding jobs that keep us very busy (she's a bagger a local supermarket), plus we have a toddler and a baby on the way. She expects us to be able to drop everything and hang out with her. She also doesn't drive, and lives about 30 minutes away (with lots of traffic) so it's my wife who does all that driving when we do see her--pick her up, bring her to our house, drive her home.
So tonight my wife is taking her out for dinner. It's mostly to avoid all the driving, otherwise she'd becoming to our house again. I told her to try to kindly drop the hint that with me being pregnant and then a new baby, we aren't going to have time to hang out. My wife (who is an infinitely better person than I am) just kind of said something along the lines of, "Yeah, I don't really want to see her right now either, I'm tired, but it's the right thing to do."
I feel bad for L...but, we are not responsible for her! We have our own lives and family to think about. And feeling this way makes me just feel like, as I said, a terrible person for wishing she'd take the subtle "we're really busy" hints and leave us alone.
Well, I guess my UO today, based on everything on here, is that I don't think Hilary Clinton is "evil" or a touch above "a racist, sexist pig" - in fact I think she is the most competent candidate for commander-in-chief, with the best record and the most concrete step forward for this country.

I don't think Hilary is evil, but I don't like her. I don't want to vote for someone just because she's woman and I think it's about time we have a woman for president. I don't really agree with things she says and I think it was sneaky what she did with work e-mails and all that jazz. Also, her husband was president and I didn't like him. I know that is no indication of how she will run the country and shouldn't hold that against her.
I agree with you about the Republican candidates. I don't see Sanders and Clinton bashing each other constantly, but maybe I'm just missing it? They actually seem to be going about things as adults, like they should be.

Ugh!

I read that Google searches for "how to move to Canada" spiked after the results of Super Tuesday. Come on up north, ladies! It's cold, but it's pretty and we are super friendly!

But this is what scares me. I don't know any Trump supporters either, and I feel everyone says they don't know any Trump supporters. But they are out there because he is winning! I feel like there has to be this large undercurrent of people who SAY they think Trump is crazy, but deep down they are voting for him.
@bshurdy I can turn down donuts, cookies, cake, and brownies but if you put a cupcake infront of me.. I just can't resist. I love cupcakes. So much.

On the other hand--- I TOTALLY know the ridiculous hours teachers put in outside of school and how hard the job is in the first place. So I'm always torn when I see it in the news.
HA!
I suck.
