Plus, babies are not supposed to sleep through the night at 5 weeks! They're supposed to eat at night!! I hate hearing these stories because then everyone wants to do it when, in reality, your baby needs food!!! Sorry - soapbox...

True word, @emsmama15 ! I would be a nervous wreck if my 5 week old was sleeping through the night, now that I really think about it. At that point, I feel like my guy was probably still eating every 3-4 hours, around the clock. Ah, back to the days of tracking feedings, counting wet diapers and dirty ones too... I remember thinking I was crazy for keeping track of all of that, until I went to the checkups for LO and the doctor wanted to know those very things. As crazy as those first weeks/months are, I love them!
@BernieRae - totally!! I attribute my daughter sleeping through the night mostly to her innate nosiness. She went to daycare at 3 months and I'm guessing she spent most of the day staring at everyone else and didn't sleep as much, so she pretty much slept through from then on. Since I was back to work, I just counted my lucky stars. BUT, coincidentally, my sister also visited around that time and adjusted her a few times (she's a chiropractor). I don't think that hurt either.

@BernieRae -- I totally freaked the first time my kiddo slept through the night. And so did my boobs. My brother and his family were visiting and were leaving early in the morning. I threw on a sweatshirt to tell them goodbye, only to look down and see that I had huge milk spots that had gone through my sleep bra, through my shirt, and through my sweatshirt! Fortunately, my brother is chill and was not as horrified as I was. He even still hugged me goodbye. Haha.
Last night I dreamed that I was single and I was moving to Tennessee. I was afraid I was going to be lonely all by myself and my sister said, "well, you'll have the baby soon." I had forgotten I was pregnant and then I panicked because my mom wouldn't live near me and be able to help. Even after I woke up, I was thinking things like "I don't even have clients in Tennessee!" (which in my dream, was randomly located where Nebraska is). It took a while for reality to come back.

I am SO TIRED today. And I even slept relatively decently because we just let LO sleep with us, which is the most peaceful option. But I pushed pretty hard yesterday, and was up until 12:30am grading and cleaning, so maybe this is "productivity hangover." But dang. All I want to do is sleep. Since that's not an option, it's off I go to take LO on a walk.
ETA: I think the best gift anyone could give me right now would be 12 hours of being lazy. I want put my feet up, eat pizza and ice cream, and watch movies all day. I used to do that and call it a "sloth day." It was awesome. Haven't seen one of those since LO was born. He's absolutely worth it, but some sloth-time sounds delicious right now.
Love 'sloth' day! @sporty1216! It that I've had one either!! Maybe DH can take your little guy for a day and you can have one, or better yet, check into a hotel room, that sounds like heaven to me...then I wouldn't feel bad about not cleaning or getting stuff done at my house!
I live on sloth days! @Sporty1216 don't burst my bubble that i'll never get to have one again I'm hoping having my mom 15min away and obsessed with granbabbies will offer up some lazy hours if not Lazt days. I'm someone who MUST have a good amount of downtime in order to function. Wahhhhh
That is adorable, @createillumination ! And, if my mom lived that close, I would totally get sloth days still. plus, the early days with a newborn are modified sloth days. You have interrupted sleep, but you can sit on the couch in your jammies and watch Netflix all day while your nurse. won't happen like that with a toddler around, but the first time, it was absolutely like that.
My mom watched my nephews full-time for my sister and she's going to help me so I can work. I want to make sure that I don't over-use her during workdays, because I want some sloth days, too. I'll need it and I know my husband will appreciate having some time for just the two of us. Luckily my mom is super excited for the baby to come. Childcare is like her calling.

Seriously. I didn't need more evidence that you all are my people, but if I did, the rallying cry behind the importance of Sloth Day would seal the deal. I think I figured out what I am going to do. When my parents visit in July, I am going to leave them here with LO and I am going to spend a day at their air bnb with pizza and ice cream and cable tv. Just two months to wait!
I'm totally on board with this whole sloth day thing. Truth is I've been having a lot of them recently, and baby isn't even here yet! Also, I'm technically working full time, which is a joke, because third trimester has made my productivity wane almost to the point of non-existence...
Also, speaking of relaxing instead of working, I had a prenatal massage yesterday and it was heavenly. Today is date night with my hubby after an L&D tour.

I feel like I'm having one of those evenings that you hear about and think "yikes!" And then you're in it and you think "yikes! But I've got this!" Kiddo got a bad diaper rash, so I got him sorted (I thought) and he was playing pant-less in the kitchen while i got dinner going. Then he started to melt down, the beef was just about done browning, and I suddenly look in the mirror over the sink and find that I am 21+ weeks pregnant, holding a bare-bummed toddler with one arm as he cries into my chest, and stirring the meat with the other hand so it doesn't burn. One of those crazy, but empowering, moments. We can do this!
My mom asked me to make a guest list for my baby shower today and I was thinking how long it's been since I've seen most of my friends. None of them have kids and they go to bars late at night, which I don't do anymore. I was thinking how they might just drift away because our lives will be so different. ...And tonight I found out one of my friends is pregnant!!! Woohoo!

I'm grading papers and just came across this line: "This left women with the occupations of pleasing their husbands and domestic jobs such as giving birth or other household chores."
Aren't you glad to know that giving birth is just another household chore?! hahahahaha.
That's great news, @sporty1216. Perhaps I can find a housekeeper that will have this baby for me. And maybe clean the bathrooms between contractions.

And, in more random news (and in service of helping me procrastinate on the grading I have now returned to), I just felt a nice big squirm from baby girl! I have been missing those since by this time with my son, I was getting crazy kicks all the time. Darn anterior placenta. When they do happen now, they are pretty exciting. I think baby girl must like fruit snacks, just like her mama and big brother.
I'm happy my boy flipped breech again because it's super easy to distinguish who's kicking me from the location - down low on the left is him (or tap dancing on my cervix) and up high on the right is his sister. Love it all!

Is anyone else terrified of getting on the scale. I just weighed myself this morning after 3 weeks and I felt full on panic before I got on the scale. Mostly I go by how my clothes fit and such, but I dread seeing too much gain too quickly. I know I am going to gain weight, but still I get full on panic every time!!!
@jilligan14 every body is so different there is probably no need for concern unless baby isn't growing on track. Plus weight gain is not linear, you might gain nothing than a bunch all at once. As long as you feel good and baby is growing I bet that is all that matters. You can always ask your doctor if it concerns you.
Honestly, I just stay off the scale and don't look when they weigh me at the office... I just figure my OB will tell me if anything is off... So, yeah. Denial/avoidance helps me not be anxious.
@Sporty1216 that's the way to do it for sure! I have to weigh myself because my midwife does all my visits at home. I weigh myself the morning she comes and just tell her the number. I weighed myself today because we were on vacation 2 weeks ago and it was an all-you-can eat type of trip and I didn't want to be blindsided for my appointment next week. Thankfully not too much damage was done!
Appointments at home sound awesome, @createillumination ! I think I could put up with weighing myself too if it meant I didn't have to go to an office. It would undoubtedly cause me anxiety, but the trade off sounds worth it! Lucky duck!
I don't ever weigh myself at home anymore. WAY too anxiety producing. I'm pretty much gaining a pound a week right now, which will put my total weight gain at about 45 pounds if that continues. I gained 12 pounds with my daughter, so this is seriously freaking me out, but my OB hasn't said a thing, so I'm choosing to let it go!! Way more to worry about (see below).
I had a wild day yesterday. It started late last week when my heartburn got out of control. I called the clinic on Friday and they started me on Reglan and Gaviscon at bedtime. The Gaviscon was NASTY and made my heartburn worse. The Reglan may have helped a little bit. By Monday it was just relentless, so I called again and my OB was in, so she called in a prescription for Protonix. OMG! It's a miracle drug. Also on Monday, I developed either a stomach bug or a reaction to the medication changes and had very mild diarrhea and nausea. In hindsight, I wasn't drinking enough and it hurt to eat, so I wasn't doing enough of that either. Yesterday I just felt crappy and off. I had an appointment at the Pregnancy Diabetes Clinic and my endocrinologist (who's wife coincidentally had preterm labor with their IVF twins) convinced me to head over to L&D. They determined I was very tachycardic (120-130s). I ended up being there for 5 hours with an irritable uterus - likely caused by dehydration. My contractions stopped finally after 2 liters of fluid. I had a bunch of labs drawn and urine sent. It was a wake up call. I need to be more careful. This pregnancy is NOTHING like my singleton pregnancy. I'm really freaked out. Working in the NICU, the last thing I want is 24 week twins. The good news is that they did a fetal fibronectin swab - which can be predictive of delivery within two weeks if positive. Mine was negative, so they're relatively sure I won't deliver in the next 2 weeks. For today, my babies are safe and snug inside and I'm taking it easy. If you have any extra, please send a prayer or two my way that they stay in there for at least 13 more weeks!!

@emsmama15 Sorry you're going through all of this Glad you're able to take it easy today. I'll be praying that your babies stay inside a few more months. And that the next few months are as uneventful as possible for you!
Oh my goodness, @emsmama15 ! Yes! I will keep you and your twinsies in prayer. I'm so sorry you went through all of that, but I'm glad it looks like babies' arrival isn't imminent. Take good care of yourself. Easier said than done, I know, when life is so busy. I definitely notice that I'm not as on top of my hydration and eating as I was with my LO. I just get too busy to remember. But this is a good reminder to make it a priority. Keep us updated.
@emsmama15 Glad you and your twins are okay! Yes, certainly slow down and take care of yourself. It's a good reminder to all of us! In fact, I'm going to go drink some water now. I know I definitely get contractions when I'm dehydrated.
As for weighing at home, I've been doing it once or twice a week all pregnancy, mostly so that I won't get taken off guard at my OB appointments. I feel like weight gain during pregnancy is what it is. Unless you're way out of control with your eating habits then your body just does what it needs to. And my weight gain has definitely NOT been linear at all. I will gain a huge amount in a short period of time and then nothing for weeks.
