Re: Random Thoughts Thread

  • @createillumination Do you do a lot of guided meditations? I've been looking for some nice short, introductory ones for mindfulness meditation, which H and I are trying to learn (daytime, awake meditation). We're beginners so it's still very hard to do anything for more than about 5 minutes or so. H took an intro to meditation seminar through his work and learned that even 1 minute per day for a beginner is a good place to start. It's amazing how DIFFICULT it is!

I have used guided meditation/relaxation for falling asleep and it works well. I have not yet tried it for those nights when I wake up with "monkey brain" but I should! The best insomnia treatment for me, by far, is intense exercise, but that's been difficult to do in 3rd trimester. I suspect that's one of the reasons why it's been flaring up for me. The frequent need to urinate certainly doesn't help either.

  • @redheadbride15 Yes Yes Yes I love guided mediations. In my whole "meditation career" I have never sat down and "tried to meditate" without doing an active meditation first. What I mean by that is a pranyama or breath work, or a guided meditation or something that helps set the stage for meditation to happen.
Again some of my favorites are on yogaglo.com (free and then only $18 a month and you can cancel anytime)
like these 15 min guided ones: (I've done each of these as 40day practices, I love Rod Stryker for guided meditations.)
    https://www.yogaglo.com/class/5208
    https://www.yogaglo.com/class/4278
    https://www.yogaglo.com/class/3691

I know it is not everyone's cup of tea but I love chanting as way to access the meditative mind. Here are some from my yoga teacher trainer that involve chanting and very active meditations where you use the arms in an exhaustive way (might help fill the gap of working out hard.)
    https://www.yogaglo.com/class/2680
    https://www.yogaglo.com/class/2251

This is my current meditation practice- this chant for 11min +  meditation for 11min:
    https://www.yogaglo.com/class/2254

I also have some of my own meditations on you tube and a blog on how to get started with meditation, I'll PM those because I'm not sure I can share them here!
  • @createillumination Thanks! You rock! I'm excited to share these with DH. I'll let you know what I think about the chanting :)

  • @createillumination love some yoga nidra and thanks for the meditation and chant suggestions!

@redheadbride15 I can also recommend the Headspace App that has 10 minute sessions and also a 30 day session on pregnancy. You have to buy a subscription but I think it's worth it.
  • Oh that sounds cool @lillebowski23!
  • Lady in front of me on the bus was coughing repeatedly. Moved to the back of the bus to find people sneezing and blowing noses. These people better have allergies! And off to the germ factory that is my work...
  • I had some crazy baby dreams last night! The first dream was about me getting another ultrasound and the doctor discovering that I was actually carrying identical twins AND identical triplets! Um, what?!?!? I was like, "how did you guys not see this before on all the other ultrasounds??" I then proceeded to freak out and kept saying, "There's no way I can have 5 babies at once!" Luckily I woke up from that one before it got too stressful! The next dream was that my baby came super early, like next month. Yikes, more stress! What a night.

  • I went to target with LO. Got a decaf latte on the way. Drank it. Was hit with the urge to pee while at the store, but LO screams when we go into public bathrooms. So I decided to hold it. And then proceeded to pee my pants as soon as I walked in the door at home. :( at least I was at home. But if this is happening now, I can't imagine how bad it's going to be later. LO needs to get over his fear of public bathrooms!

  • Also, guys, my kid pooped and peed on the potty and even asked to do it! I am on cloud 9! It may not happen again for weeks, or it might happen again tomorrow. But let me tell you, I would be SO happy if he was not in diapers come September.

And, school is almost out for the summer. 2.5 more weeks and I am a free woman until January thanks to maternity leave (well, I'll teach online this summer, but I can do that at home in the middle of the night). I can feel myself getting loopy with excitement!
  • My boobs suddenly feel a bit larger and slightly sore. I haven't felt that since the first tri. I was pretty happy with the size they had become. I don't want them to get huge! I'm still having trouble adjusting to the belly! I knew they'd get bigger when I started nursing, but I figured I'd have an empty belly by then, so it would be an even trade. I'm having another one of those "what am I going to look like by July?!?" moments. Ack.

  • @CarrieandRoy - my boobs have been hurting and growing pretty much the whole time. I can't wear regular bras anymore and am even starting to bust out of my sports bras. I was all prepared for the big belly thing but the boobs have really taken me by surprise. The stretch marks are so unreal too (only one my boobs so far). I can't even imagine what will happen when my milk comes in...

  • @jilligan14 I switched to nursing bras (very much like sports bras) at 10 weeks. And I had to buy bigger sports bras for the gym. No stretch marks yet, but if I'm heading for another growth spurt, who knows what's in store...

  • One of DH's friends just outed my pregnancy in a comment on one of his Facebook posts that was about baseball.  Not a huge deal and he deleted it within 10 minutes, but there are definitely people we haven't told who may have seen it. Specifically one of my friends who commented a few minutes prior. So I just texted her to fill her in. I just wanted to wait another month or two  before anything was on Facebook. Oh well!
  • Uggghhhh @BernieRae that sucks! It's one of the reasons I deactivated Facebook 2 months ago. I hate it when people mess up like that. Sorry :(
  • That does stink, @BernieRae ! Glad you were able to contact your friend and explain. I hope she understood. And I hope your DH's friend will
be more careful in the future...
  • LO would NOT nap today. I was exhausted because I had pregsomnia and had to get up with LO last night. So I put him in his room with the iPad and went and closed my eyes in our bedroom. I felt a little guilty, but damn. I was tired.

The good news is he went to bed early and now we're gonna watch a movie and I might be able to stay awake. It's the new Star Wars and I don't really care about it, but hopefully it'll be fun. ;)
  • @Sporty1216 I am going to seriously mourn my pre-baby uninterrupted sleep! Too bad pregsomnia is so wicked and I can't sleep perfectly now. Have fun with star wars.
  • @createillumination -- it is something to mourn indeed! Fingers crossed you get a good sleeper. It happens! We got a great LO, but he is a crap sleeper. I'm hoping with everything in me that baby is a better one. I don't know how I'll do two bad sleepers at once! Someone is going to have to be a good one!
  • Total pregsomnia last night! I woke up at 1:30am and my fingers were so swollen my wedding right was tight. I thought I wasn't going to be able to get it off I was panicking!!! Luckily some lotion did the trick but I don't think I can wear it anymore  :o I'm only halfway. Waahhh
  • I got to my a/s appointment only to find that I wasn't on the schedule! My DH took the day off for this and the gal who does the scheduling remembers scheduling me. Fortunately, they got me in at 11. But I was so ready to be done!

pregsomnia sucks! And my rings are tight too, @createillumination :(
  • @createillumination I took my rings off about halfway too. I don't have sausage fingers but my hands were juuuuuuust swollen enough that wearing them was uncomfortable.

The worst part of the swollen hands is carpal tunnel syndrome. It started in my right hand with tingling and numbness in my thumb, index, and middle fingers. I have a wrist brace which helps and now I need one for the left hand. Yee-haw.
  • @Sporty1216 How annoying that they messed up your A/S scheduling! I'm glad they were able to squeeze you in though. Good luck with it! Looking forward to your update!

My rings still fit, amazingly, at almost 34 weeks. I have noticed some swelling in my feet and ankles over the past week though, so I'm sure my fingers aren't far behind. My OB has this funny obsession with warning me about my rings every time I see her. She is a woman of few words and most of my office visits have lasted approximately 3 minutes, but she never forgets to mention the rings.

  • @sporty1216 that would drive me nuts!

As for swelling, my hands are okay, but sometimes when I crouch down, my legs feel like someone inflated them. It's very uncomfortable.

A co-worker on maternity leave just came in with her 5week old baby who is already sleeping through the night. Ugh, I want to be happy for her, but I had a colicky baby who didn't sleep through until he was 11 months old. I'm convinced this one's going to keep me up all hours of the night, too...
  • I hate those stories too, @mamafesto. Though my kiddo slept through from 3mo - 6mo and then NEVER AGAIN. Full nights with no wake ups are STILL unicorns in my house and he is 2. TWO. So, give it some time. That coworker might get what I got--a false sense of security and rest.  Haha.
