So DH just kindly reminded me that next Friday is a Friday the 13th. Which also happens to be the day before my due date. Knowing my streak of events lately I'm pretty much counting on a Friday the 13th baby at this point. Guess I should get all my stuff done.

Since I'm being induced on the 12th dr thinks baby will be born on the 13th! Dh and I love all the scary corny stuff so kinda excited about it!
It's true that we have more leave in Europe, but there is also a flipside. Depending on the country, our working days can be longer, so even though contractually I might work 40 hours per week, mostly I put in between 45-50 hours per week, without claiming overtime that I should technically be allowed to claim. During pregnancy it's different, no overtime allowed, and mandatory maternity leave from 32 weeks, until the baby is 8 weeks old, 12 weeks if breastfeeding.
Also, some policies seem to be work-life balance friendly but in reality are not. For example, where we live there is no school on Wednesday afternoon, so most mothers are working at 80% so as to be able to be home in the afternoon. But that only works if your employer allows you to do so. On top of that, even if it's granted, you generally retain the same workload as at 100%. Also if we have calls with the U.S., nobody is available until 5 p.m. Which makes things complicated when the crèche closes at 6:30... So there are many good things, but some things are not quite so easy.
I'm still working, and planning to stay til the end...so 3 more weeks if she's on time. I'm getting less and less to do because no one wants to give me work I won't be able to finish (should baby come early), so it's been pretty boring. But I guess I'm getting paid to Bump so can't complain.
My last day in the office was today. I'll probably work some from home tomorrow and Wednesday. My induction is Thursday at the butt crack of dawn. But seriously, my work is going to be helpless without me. I might feel a little bad if they actually tried to find a temp sooner than a month ago. They had 6 months to figure out the situation and they still don't have it all worked out. But too dang bad for them.
I'm working until Friday because Saturday the 7th is my due date. After that, it's peace out coworkers for 10 weeks!! I am so tired and ready to have this baby. I hope he comes soon!
Where are we putting our birth stories? I should've put it into my announcement but that was way too much effort at the time! Are we just starting a new thread if we want to share?
So my boss has already called me asking questions and baby and I had been home less than 12 hours... He also text me while I was pushing (which obviously I didn't get until the next day because hello labour) to ask me questions about the DETAILED list of things I had completed and clients that needed called still. Things he could have figured out on his own but apparently sleeping while baby sleeps isn't a concept others understand yet... I hope that's the only time work calls.

Interesting. What country do you live in? Our workdays can be long in the US, too. I would venture to say that most of us that work 50+hours per week are probably salaried and not getting overtime pay, either.

This is exactly how I anticipate my boss being. I've been updating an extremely detailed list of all my ongoing and upcoming assignments on a daily basis and her questions are inane and I am scared she will still be contacting me once I'm out on maternity leave. I feel for you and hope your boss backs off!

I could be wrong, but if you are out on fmla I don't think they are allowed to contact you. Atleast that's how my office is during ml. I was told it is unlawful to work when on leave.

You're not wrong. My work almost got in trouble for this a few years back. Now when someone goes on FMLA at my work they completely disable all of your work accounts - email, computer login, key cards, everything. You are not allowed to do anything work related at all - not even check work related email. It violates the terms of FMLA.
That's interesting and I'm pretty sure my office does not follow those rules. The IT guys came over to ask me if I know how to login remotely while I'm on leave. I'm definitely planning on removing work email from my phone and then very occasionally logging in on my computer to check email but definitely not for the first few weeks at least.
@yogahh still working here too. I have my last scheduled day of work a week before my due date and now wonder WTF I was thinking. On my feet for 6-8 hours a day is exhausting, I basically come home and fall into bed.
Does anyone else that lurks on June notice they have way more drama than us? I am constantly being entertained. What started as a who will deliver in May thread turned ugly.
Today's my first day staying home. No more work! So far I've napped. Yep. That's it. I'm so lazy.
Anyway. That Me-ternity leave crazy lady is going to be on The View today too so another hour on my ass is scheduled.
I read something today about "paw-ternity" leave. Yup, time off to stay home with your new pet. Give me a break people...
The pawternity leave is actually kind of cool. It's not for all pets (the guy said that if you got a goldfish you don't need a week off) and they do it on a case by case basis. One example was a man who took his suddenly deceased mothers dog- the dog needed time to adjust to the family so he got a week off.
Thats called a vacation week. Comparing it to ML is a slap in the face
Speaking of ML, is anyone else still working? Just me? I feel like a lot of you ladies are done with work already. Makes me wonder WTF am I still doing here?!?!
**Stuck in this box!**
I'm also working up to the bitter end. Granted, I'm still only 36 weeks so I've got a ways to go... but I basically just started training my replacement who can't get her shit together so me training her only happens in 1-2 hour increments because she's got so much other shit to do (I vented about her on WTF Wednesday last week), but I think she might be realizing she's not going to make it if she doesn't spend more time with me and my supervisor got on her case a little bit. My worst fear about working up until the very end is that my water is going to break in the middle of court with a full docket of my clients so they'll all be right up in my business and gossiping about it. I need to figure out how to discreetly deal with that situation if it were to happen so none of my clients know...
So my boss has already called me asking questions and baby and I had been home less than 12 hours... I have had a few clients ask me if they can still contact me when I go on maternity leave. Umm, no! If I'm off, I'm off! Although, while I don't actually want to talk to clients/work while I'm on ML, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to remaining included in work emails so I know what's going on with my clients while I'm gone to make the transition back into work after 8 weeks off easier.. I'm sure my supervisor will tell me no though!
So, part of my tooth broke off over the weekend and my luck, something got in there. On antibiotics now but have to have a freaking surgical extraction being only numbed this Friday. Normally, they put you under for this but since I'm expecting, that's obviously not safe. All I want is baby to be safe, but at the same time, I HATE dentists! I'm more scared of this than labor- how crazy is that?!

Oh, I'm sorry! DH had to have a surgical extraction done a few weeks ago with only numbing. The army was paying for it and they wouldn't pay to put him under. He's the biggest wuss I know when it comes to dental work, so you can do it! It didn't take long and he was back to normal in a couple days. Good luck!

Reading this made me stabby!
I have a neighbor who is going in for an elective induction at 39w (she originally wanted 37w, but doc said no) and it's so hard to bite my teeth when she brings it up.

Really?? I don't think it's that way where I work because I've been approved to do CPE while on leave (I use work time for it) and "attend" group meetings via phone while I am out. My choice and idea, not my managers.

UGH. That would infuriate me. I would reply "I will return to the office on July 1 (or whenever) and will be happy to address your concerns then." But, I know that's easier said than done when it comes to bosses. lol I'm annoyed for you!

I think that's how it is if you're under federally mandated FMLA. I actually had to fill out the government forms provided for it and stuff and a lot of stuff I work with is related to government contracts (not an actual govt employee though), so maybe that has a lot to do with it. It's probably more so they don't want our clients to get in trouble than themselves, but I'm not so much as allowed to check email or even talk about work related things. I have to keep in contact with HR every 30 days via my personal email/phone.

Hmm... Yeah that's weird. I wouldn't worry about it too much anyway. If anything came of it I'm pretty sure it would be on them, not you so if you're ok with it then no harm I guess. It could also be that my work takes it way too seriously, which tends to happen a lot. Personally my job is WAYYYY too stressful at times for me to even think of while out so I'm really looking forward to the time away. LOL.
So unfair!! Now I'm torn between wanting baby girl to come out because I'm so uncomfortable & wanting to get better before she arrives.
I hope you get well before your LO arrives! I'm sort of in the same situation. I have a sinus infection, and my doctor said I could only take sinus meds for 3-5 days. Today is day 6, so I'm miserable. DH also has some sort of sinus/allergy sickness going on. Fortunately, neither of us are contagious, but I still don't want this LO to come when we're both feeling so horrible. As ready as I am to meet him and no longer be pregnant, I'm hoping he holds out long enough for us to both get well first!

This is totally random, but this morning I started bawling incessantly because I want someone to come clean my windows and they don't have weekend appointments available and I work all week, then I cried because a cab got a green light before I could get to it and it's raining (dropped my bags and screamed, "someone PLEASE get me that cab! it worked.) Then I cried because I was crying in a cab on the way to work and ruining my makeup instead of being at home getting my windows cleaned and doing baby laundry. I'm 37 weeks yesterday. Anyone else have hair trigger hysterical bawling triggered by frustrated nesting urges?
I just went and read the June babies born in May thread. I can't believe this comment "my doc cares about me and knows how important it is to have a specific birthday for my child. It is the rest of his life we're talking about. There is NOTHING more important than the date. ". The date of birth is more important to this person than the health of her child?! What??
