My milk just Came in yesterday my baby has just started eating off the breast with the assistance of a sheild so I've been pumping but is it normal to feel engorged and kinda tender even after feeding and pumping?
Also I fed her for almost 55 min this evening and she still was hungry and cried to eat more how do I know how much she's getting? I feel like an hour is a long time to feed and have her not be satisfied..
Most babies like to cluster feed for hours at night. Especially when your milk just comes in. It's normal. Get yourself comfy, find a show to watch and some food and drink because in the beginning they will do that a lot.
LO is 3.5 weeks old, and bc of latch issues I split breastfeeding and pumping. I have been noticing that after pumping, my nipples stay swollen and painful for several hours. It makes it difficult to pump for nurse for the rest of the day. I use lanolin after every feeding, I have been using bigger flanges with the pump, I use ice and warm compresses... Nothing seems to help. To make matters worse, I now have mastitis on one side so feeding more frequently is even more painful. Has anyone experienced something like this before? Any advice?
Anyone with really large breasts have any luck feeding in a traditional hold across your chest? I'm looking for tips...
I have DDD cups and I've only ever been able to get my 5 week old son latched with a football hold....its a lot harder to do when I'm out or at families house without my pillows etc. Love to know if anyone in my situation has had success with either Bfing holds.
I'd invest in a My Breast Friend pillow. A million times better than a boppy and helpful for traditional hold with a large chest IMO!
Holy crap. We're on hour 7 of nonstop comfort nursing. She's not eating, I can tell because she's not swallowing. I don't even have a chance to put her down; she falls asleep on the boob, falls off, wakes up and screams. She wont take a pacifier, and all DH can do is hold screaming baby while I get up to pee. I'm completely out of ideas at this point. I can't be a constant boob-pacifier. Any advice, anyone?

This is 100% my life right now. She just wants to sleep with my nipple in her mouth. Otherwise she screams. I've been at it for the whole evening.

Have you tried different types of pacifier? My LO wants nothing to do with the Nuk, but loves her Soothie.

My nipples also get swollen after initially pumping but seem to have adjusted. Maybe try less suction? Good luck and hang in there!

We only have Nuks right now. I'll send DH out for other brands when he gets up. Kiddo finally gave me a (reluctant) break after 7.5 hours. She stopped screaming and was just fussy, I laid her down and let her fuss herself to sleep (didn't take long, thankfully, otherwise I would've picked her back up).
I just pumped and put out a little over 1.5 oz from one and barely 1oz from the other is it normal to have such a discrepancy?
I have a huge discrepancy between mine. Like 2 oz difference. My L side has always been larger, I think there is just more breast tissue there. My LO will also feed much longer on my L breast.

On average I can get 3oz out of my right and 1.5oz on the left if I'm lucky. Right side has always been the better producer but I'm trying to feed more on the left to help it catch up.
Any one dealing with Mastitis? I'm sitting urgent care right now because I think I have it on my left side.
I thought I had it starting. I used a combination of ice, heat, massage, and Advil along with pumping/feeding from that side. I can still feel a small hard spot, but I do not have the pain I had. Please post what they advise you to do.
@JamieA322 urgent care gave me a prescription and some really bad advise (pump and dump on that side, which I know is inaccurate). I'm planning to call my LC tomorrow and will let you know what she says.

Mine is in the process of clearing up, my ob prescribed antibiotics starting Wednesday and the pain was very much reduced within 24 hours. Pain is almost gone today, still reduced output on that side but almost back to normal. I was advised to use heat, hard massage, cold for pain, as much nursing as possible and pumping regularly. I found using the madela heat packs while pumping to be effective in reducing pain. The knot in my breast is almost gone today, still massaging away. On the worst day I ended up drawing a bath, as hot as I could stand, getting on all fours and massaging as long as possible. It helped a lot! Then immediate cold once I was out with ice packs- also as much rest as possible- husband did most of the work with the baby since it hurt for me to even lift her- I hope it clears up soon for you!

Did you notice the antibiotic affected you LO? I've read suggestions about giving them probiotics to avoid thrush.
@cdepperschmidt- I have read about that but my ob said it should be fine so as of now not. No change in my lo- she is doing well and mom is much happier
We've only given LO our finger so far. I'm so ready to try a pacifier but DH wants me to stick it out till that 4 week mark (to prevent nipple confusion)... I know there have been studies that say nipple confusion isn't really a thing but I also understand the whole "what if it is for our kid" thing... But if we have another night like last night where Zeke screamed the whole night in getting pacifiers out.

When you decide to use a pacifier make sure you don't get a flat one. Get something like the soothie pacifier so that baby's tongue curls around it like it would a nipple. I think the flay pacifiers is where nipple confusion comes into play.

That makes sense. I think the soothies are what we have the most of (so hopefully he likes them!).
We started using the Soothie pacifier when LO was less than a week old. She was wanting to nurse constantly for comfort, or just sit with my nipple in her mouth. I was worried about nipple confusion too, but I was so desperate to get relief as I've had so much trouble BF. I'm really glad I gave her the pacifier. It really helps her go to sleep. If something traumatic has happened though, like if she gets really upset about a diaper change that has taken too long for her, or she's been a little bit sick I'll let her comfort nurse then because shr definitely prefers it.
DD is 2 weeks tomorrow I'm EBF, and her poops alternate between green and yellow. Finding mixed messages on dr Google. Anyone else? We have an appt tomorrow should I be overly concerned?

DD did the same thing and the nurse told me it was normal. Since you are going to the dr tomorrow it can not hurt to mention it.
So woke up this morning with a fever and a little congestion.. Is it still okay to BF? I've taken some Motrin and Tylenol to try and break the fever but I'm nervous to feed him cuz I don't want LO getting sick. I've been pumping since waking up

I would continue to nurse. The antibodies in your breast milk will help to protect baby.

From what I've read, he has a better chance of getting whatever you have if you don't feed him.
Edit because I mean breast feed. Obviously you'd still feed him haha

My pediatrician said this is totally normal and has more to do with what you ate. My pediatrician said it can be several different colors.

Alway keep BFing when you're sick. You pass on the antibioties to them. And I would actually nurse and not pump because their saliva talks to your body and tells it what antibioties to make if they are getting sick.

My LO's poop's have been green all day today! She's also fussing a lot more than usual when nursing. Like pulling off then getting mad and having a hard time latching back on. This is very unusual and I wonder if my milk flow is too fast/too much foremilk.
Let us know what your doctor says - our next appointment isn't until Monday but if her poops continue to be green tomorrow I may call.

@Ceridwen77@snlyon0614 my personal experience with this is that my baby's taking in too much fore milk and too quickly, resulting in green poos! I find they may also have wind because of this, hence the fussing. I have a stupidly fast milk flow (all my children have only ever BF for 5 mins at a time!) so if it gets too bad, I will express the first small bit of milk off. Obviously see what your doctors say but it sounds normal to me so try not to worry!

I would say the same thing. Try block feeding and feed on one side for 2-3 feeds. They helped with my daughter.
I have developed blisters on both nipples, probably from rubbing against baby's mouth while feeding him. Called my doctor, but all they suggested was working more on the latch. I am in pain but I want to keep breastfeeding.
Has anyone developed red moles on their breasts since starting breastfeeding? This isn't a picture of mine btw, just one I found on the Internet, one that is similar to the ones I have. Wondering if I should be concerned? There is a history of breast cancer in my family.

I've noticed them too. I wasn't concerned about it. I assume it's a result from him sucking

You could maybe pump for a bit to let your nipples heal? Or see a LC about getting nipple shields.
