I need new nursing tank tops! I am not impressed with the two I got from Target (Gillian o'malley or whatever). They serve their purpose but they aren't very comfortable and I have a longer torso so after a couple washes they already fit weird. Helllpppp. What are some good brands ladies?
I splurged and got some of the undercover mama tops and love them! They were expensive tho...

Glamour mom makes a really nice nursing tank. They're long and made from a material that kind of sucks everything in for you. They also have a built in bra with an adjustable strap. They're expensive though. Like 60 Canadian or more. Probably cheaper if you're US.
Having a real rough night. My milk came in and now Zeke will only feed on my left nipple (and honestly I'm not entirely sure he is actually feeding since he's currently been on my boob an hour, I'm not empty, and he started rooting and fussing when I took him off). He screams like a banshee if I give him my right nipple. I've resorted to pumping that side twice so far tonight. I'm really worried he's not eating enough if he's not really eating on the left and won't eat from the right.
He ate fantastically yesterday and during the day today but as my milk has come in today, we've been struggling. I meet with an LC at 11 to see what I should/can do.

I love glamour mom's long torso big bust ones. They are great! I had 4 last time that are still in good shape. I just bought 3 more. Expensive but worth it!
Holy baby farts, batman! Anyone else's baby farts smell something awful when your milk first came in?
I was breastfeeding Zeke in the car after meeting with the LC (she gave me a nipple shield and that made everything so much easier!), and he farted twice and the whole car smelled! I couldn't stop laughing while I was feeding him and he just had the most confused look on his face.
Happy mama here! After Cooper losing more than 10% of his body weight we went in for another weight check today and he gained 5oz in 5 days. He is 2oz away from his birth weight and I couldn't be happier. He will be 2 weeks old on Thursday. He's been eating less and less formula which is making me really happy. Definitely worth getting is tongue tie cut!
@rachswi my baby has the worst gas in the world! It smells like rotten eggs and at first I thought it was because of an antibiotic I was taking but it hasn't gone away LOL...she can stink up a whole room so I am right there with you!! Doctor said its fine though as long as she has plenty of wet diapers, etc...
Ok, so I have a question. My friend came to visit us this weekend and was shocked at how full my breast were after pumping or feeding. I feed for 30 minutes on each side or pump until no more milk is coming out, about 20 minutes double electric pump. My breast are very full after but not hard or tender or anything. She said after her baby fed her breast would be like completely empty and then they'd get super full again. But mine never really look empty. Is this normal or am I not emptying them all the way? After a feed I don't feel that they have milk like before but they still look full. Idk I just want to make sure I'm emptying properly to get as much milk as possible and avoid clogged ducts and all that. Anyways, any thoughts or advice?

I would have the pediatrician inspect his mouth for tongue/lip ties.

Lactation consultant told me today that our breasts are never completely empty of milk. The more your baby feeds the more "efficient" the milk that's left becomes so that the baby slows down/stops before you're on empty. My boobs are huge so they don't look empty either. But they feel less full after he feeds. If your baby is gaining weight (and obviously you're getting a good amount when pumping), then you should be fine.

We have our first appointment tomorrow. I'll be sure to ask- thanks!
I don't have a supply issue now, but I'm curious if anyone has taken fenugreek supplements to help milk supply. I thought if it helps, it would be beneficial when I go back to work and have to rely more on pumping.

I did last time. You have to take it until you smell like maple syrup though so it's kind of gross. I found eating oatmeal every day and drinking mothers milk tea helped even more. That and drinking a ton of water. And pumping for 10-20 minutes after she ate.
I had this same problem in the hospital. It felt like knives stabbing my breast every time he sucked. I would cry it hurt so bad. The nurse suggested I try a nipple shield and it completely changed things for the better. My nipples no longer hurt, he latches so much better, and he started gaining weight. Apparently he was not getting enough in his mouth to make the good latch. After he would eat, you could actually see the top of my nipple was sucked almost flat. I love my shield!! I was never successful feeding either of my daughters, and I am at 4 weeks and 1 day now with my son.

Baby boy seems like he is not satisfied after feeding at night. My milk has still not come in. I am calling a lactation consultant tomorrow, but wondered if you ladies had any advice. Please help!!!!

How many days post-partum? If your milk is not in yet keep offering him your breast and he'll keep eating and it may help stimulate your supply.

Just keep him on the boob as much as possible and keep doing skin to skin. It'll help your milk come in. You can also try pumping after you feed him. But he's going to be the most efficient at getting your milk to come in.
Ok, so I just did the weirdest thing ever. Lol. I took my most comfortable but supportive bra and cut the nipples out! Hahaha. It looks so freaky but feels so nice. I'm not going anywhere and I don't feel comfortable without a bra so I needed something to support me but not touch my nipples because they hurt soooo bad. I look like a freak show but I'm one happy freak show! Lol.
They also make shells that you can put in your bra to keep everything off your nipples. And I highly recommend getting some gel pads that you put in the freezer and then on your nipples. They feel amazing. Lansinoh and Medela both make some. I bought some at target. I had 2 pairs at all times so one was always cold.
This! It hurt so badly to put on a shirt when I was in the hospital I would only do it if I had to. The LC brought me some shells and wearing them (along with using lanolin) has almost totally eliminated the sensitivity!
Does anyone else feel like they're starving all the time or have any suggestions for good snacks to eat while breastfeeding?
Seriously, I'm hungry all the time! I made lactation cookies and keep those as well as fruit leather, energy bars, fresh fruit and water around, especially at night! Probably not good for the post partum weight loss ;-) but I figure I need the extra calories. My husband laughs at me because there's usually a pile of wrappers and crumbs by my side of the bed in the morning.
LO is 8 days today and has been feeding well, with a shield, she won't stay latched without it. My concern now is that her poopie diapers have been more of a watery type, she passes gas and shoots out poop (small amounts). She gets hiccups and sneezes after feelings, even after being burped. She doesn't seemed bothered by it and is still feeding well but I can't help but think of scenarios in my head, like maybe she's allergic to my milk or lactose. It's driving me crazy and I don't know what to do to help her. We have an appointment tomorrow morning, so just trying to hang tight till then
@2octobermama I keep kind bars by my bed for middle of the night hunger. They are awesome and easy to eat with one hand. I figure it's a step up from the Halloween candy I was eating the first few nights..

Breast milk poops are watery. My daughter would poop a little with every fart. It's pretty common. She also got hiccups all the time too. Try some gripe water. It helps.

I nursed DS for 15 months and was starving the whole time. My go to snacks are apples with peanut butter, whole wheat blueberry muffins, cheese and crackers or oatmeal. I also eat a small meal before bed so I did not need snacks overnight (with DS I did not need to eat before bed once he started sleeping longer).
My LO is going on 4 days old, my milk still hasn't come in, so my pediatrician told me to start supplementing with formula until it does, anyone else have an issue similar to this? I feel like my body is broken because it hasn't come in yet. I mean I know they all say 3-5 days but i'm getting worried-- Breastfeeding is something I really want to do with my LO.

Hang in there!! It's apparently super super uncommon for mothers to truly have little to no milk, sometimes it just takes longer!
It took me 4-5 days for my milk to come in, I freaked out at our first appointment because my daughter lost more than 10% of her birth weight. I went out that day and got flax seed, brewers yeast, mother's milk tea, oatmeal stout, you name it. I'm sure it would have come in without all those extras but it made me feel like I was doing something. I also drank a lot of water, did lots of skin to skin and nursed her almost constantly (felt like it anyway). Now she's gaining and doing fine!
@BlondeMomma92 don't worry yet! Mine came in around 5-6 days - at first I didn't know it had even come in exactly until I actually saw milk around her mouth. I always thought for some silly reason it was like on tv when people are just suddenly leaking because their milk came in! Anyway, I drank mothers milk tea and straight pineapple juice starting around day 4 while freaking out that it wasn't coming in and I don't know if that did it or what but it happened...don't stress! The more time that baby spends on the breast also encourages it to come in I believe...
Mother maternity has buy 3 get the 4th nursing tank free and free shipping right now, you can mix and match to try a fee different brands. Free shipping too!
What are the vitamins for breastfed babies? The pediatrician told me to go get them and to "just ask the pharmacist, they'll know what you're talking about" but I like to be a little more prepared than that. Is there like a brand name?

My doctor told me to continue taking prenatal vitamins while breastfeeding.
@brianna91chavez In addition to prenatals, it's apparently a good idea for either you or the baby to take vitamin d supplements because breast milk is lacking in it.

This is what I had prescribed for my son. I would assume there's probably a bunch of different brands and such, but hopefully this helps!

My pediatrician prescribed vitamin D drops to start at one month. Otherwise, I am continuing my prenatal vitamins.
