Just curious if anyone has a side that is easier than the other or if your LO feeds the same on both.
I can feed my son on my right, no problem. My left... Ughhhhhhhhhhh!!!! While we get it done, it's a struggle. My LC has shown me different options for latching on the left... Still difficult. I guess just not as relaxed as the right.
Hoping (praying!!) that down the road, we will master the left too!!
Mines the opposite, I have no issues with feeding LO on the left but I sometimes struggle with the right side. I found football hold easiest if we are on the couch but in the rocking chair we struggle for a bit with cradle hold but eventually we get it. I figure we will just keep going until we hit a smooth rhythm!
Well speaking of shields- found out why Felicity had lost her ever loving mind. She hates the nipple shield now. So back to my original question of how people transitioned off of it? She can latch but only for seconds at a time, I think because with a shield she's used to be able to take breaks where as without it she has to maintain the latch. I'm going to try the pinky thing from kellymom but I also read somewhere there's a specific bottle that might help with latch issues (I have both Avent natural and medela and I know it wasn't those). Anyone else have any tricks that worked- I'm trying to trick her to latch. Some feedings she's perfectly calm to latch with the shield where as others she just freaks after a few minutes of eating and refuses to continue. Hoping I don't have to go to EPing.
What worked for me was basically pumping my right side (the inverted one) 'till it was almost empty and he found it possible to latch without the shield ,even if it was just for a little bit. After a few days the nipple started to get a little bigger from the suction and now he's able to latch right away. I still have to hold it for him but its still better than nothing!
What's the longest you guys have gone without feeding/pumping? Most nights we go 6hrs but I don't like to go longer than that. Tonight DH didn't wake me up until 7hrs after LO last ate. I'm worried that's too long both for her and my supply. The LC said we didn't have to wake her to eat because she was gaining well (this was 2wks ago at her last appt). Just curious what others are doing. My LO is 6wks 2days.
ETA she only goes 2-3hrs the rest of the day/night between feedings. It's really just that one stretch where DH watches her and I sleep.
I go 6-8 hours every night. And during the day I pump every 2
Off topic but I'm so jealous of you ladies getting 6-7 hours at a time. I know it will eventually happen, but the most I get right now is 4 hours...sometimes

I'm reading about all you ladies getting sleep and I'm so jealous, the most my 5.5 week LO will go is 3.5 hours and I can't even get him out of my bed for those hours! Most of the time he goes 2 hours (I'm EBF)

7 hours once and a while won't hurt you. You'll be in pain probably, but it shouldn't hurt your supply if it only happens every few days. Once babies get older they often sleep that long anyway so you wouldn't be waking up.
Thanks! Almost every night we go 6 hours but last night was 7. I didn't really feel full and uncomfortable after 7hrs last night which worries me a little, but LO has tons of wet and poopy diapers and eats without much of a problem so I think we are ok. I can barely pump anything though lately which sucks but I have a pretty good freezer stockpile already.

Oh wow lucky you!!! My boy is 8 weeks on Friday and doesn't sleep that long at all at night he will sleep a good 3-4 hrs during the day though now...

Have you tried natural breastfeeding? The name is unfortunate but the position has worked for me and helped with sore nipples and painful nursing.
I had some early latching issues..LO has very strong suck reflex but was only getting nipple and making me very sore. We figured that out within a week and my nipples were mostly healed but it was still painful to nurse. I have been using the natural breastfeeding position for about 10 days. My nipples have completely healed and I no longer have pain while nursing. LO also seems to prefer the position. Here is a website with more info. https://www.mothering.com/articles/natural-breastfeeding/

This! I have started doing MOTN feeds in the glider before putting LO back in bed with us so I feel like I'm getting no sleep at all. Hang in there mama it's just a matter of time. Ha! (Boy do I need sleep!)
Well I had to wake LO for a feeding tonight because I'm worried about my supply. She ate for maybe 6-7min total and passed back out, so I pumped after feeding. I got 4oz which is a lot for me! So feeling a bit better but still hoping LO is getting enough.

My LO is 1 month old.
I hope it can help you!
Do you find this position gives your LO less gas/spit-up, or is it about the same as any other position?

Has anyone else had a random latch regression for lack of better term? Spawn has randomly decided that his latch needs to be complete and utter shit again. I don't think anything with me has changed (still have a forceful letdown). My nipples are just killing me.

Mine seems to have started drooling like crazy at 6 weeks, which seems to make it really difficult for him to latch. He just slips off. This continues for 10 minutes until he gets really pissed and then he clamps on for dear life. Ouch.

My guy has decided he hates my left boob. He has decided he doesn't feel like opening his mouth all the way. He has decided to hold my nipple in his mouth and shake his head aggressively. Lol. I don't think anything with my milk has changed. I dunno. It's mostly when we are laying and feeding. I've been loving that at night because I can relax and he falls sleep much faster.
@taykerslake we don't have a lot of spit up (unless I misread cues and overeat) and the burps seem about the same. But the latch definitely seems stronger so theoretically it would make sense that there would be less gas.

Cecily loves to yank her head back while my nipple is still in her mouth, ouch!

Mine too. So much drool. I pick him up and it just runs out of his mouth.

Both these things for me except DD loses her ever loving mind and then wails for 20 minutes refusing to latch. My supply is really suffering. Life has become seeing if she'll latch, if she does great- I maybe have only 1 or 2 successful feedings a day but now at some point she goes ballistic with how long it takes for a letdown and once she gets crazy there's no hope for a relatch. I'm taking fenugreek and pumping like its my job but we have had to supplement with formula. Her latch is super lazy as well (I think because bottles are so easy despite us making her work for it). I'm praying this isn't the end for us but I am fighting tooth and nail.

LO hates the right side. Either her latch sucks (no pun intended) or she gums it so hard it feels like she's about to rip off the nipple! Ironically, that side has the best supply.

Yep- my boy latched really well from day one and after two weeks, he started having a shallow latch. If I latch him deeply, he'll just reposition himself to latch in a shallow way. I also have a pretty forceful letdown, but my nipples don't hurt as much when my breasts are engorged. The worst is in the evening when they are normal and the little guy ends up pinching them and blanching them. Even worse is when he'll suckle to fall asleep.
Tonight I rewarded myself with two glasses of wine and 30 minutes later realized that I was engorged and needed to pump. So I decided I'll just "pump and dump." However, I pumped about 6 ozs and now it's a shame to waste it unnecessarily if the alcohol didn't get to the milk yet. I've read that the alcohol peaks 30-60 min after consumption though. Has anyone been through this and bf their LO right after wine? Any advice is welcome.

Did you feel drunk? My rule is if I would drive a car I will nurse my child. I never had an issue doing it just way with my daughter. I've only had 2 smaller glasses of wine so far this time since DS is just 4 weeks. But the amount of alcohol that goes to your milk if you're drinking a small amount should not affect them.
I usually nurse while I'm drinking or right after because it takes time to get into your milk. I've never pumped and dumped. I would say keep the milk!

You could mix it with "sober" milk to dilute any alcohol content.

Does anyone else's LO give hunger cues but then refuse the breast? He literally just wants to hover over it and then immediately falls asleep. I'm thinking comfort? It just started two days ago and was only happening when he was really tired but just happened before a nap.
He is still having an appropriate amount of wets and dirties and eats regularly. We are going longer periods between feelings as he isn't clustering anymore. I am slightly engorged because of this.
@Pontot31 no I didn't even get a buzz. I spaced out the glasses an hour apart and they were only about 4 oz each.
@dramaphile that's a great idea! Didn't even think of that.
Thank you both!!
With that little amount I wouldn't even think twice about giving the baby the milk, especially if you spaced them out. I usually do that and drink some water and have food or a snack. I never feel the alcohol and don't worry about my milk.

I would think comfort feeding. Mine does that. He takes one or 2 drinks and then snuggles up and falls asleep. Your supply should regulate soon. Or they will hit another growth spurt and start clustering again.

DS does exactly this when he gets over tired. He gives off hunger cues and then cries hysterically when I try to feed him.

My LO has just started doing this today, we had a big weekend with family and spent the night at my sister's house on Friday...he had been going 3 to 4 hrs between feedings at night but at her house he was up every 1.5 to 2hrs...now that we are home again he would rather sleep than eat...I get him latched and he eats for a little bit then just starts shaking his head at my nipple, he doesn't get too upset and honestly it looks like he was playing a game...after a few minutes I closed up shop sat him on my chest and he fell asleep! His diapers so far today have been wet so I'm not too concerned. I'm hoping he is just recovering from an over stimulating weekend and that he will be back to his regular feedings soon...
