  • @31magnolia I hope retrieval went great and that you are resting up after:) @emmasemm I love that you can measure your bump and see progress! That sounds very reassuring. I tried to tell myself over and over today that I am 6 weeks pregnant today but kept feeling like, but maybe I’m not. For all I know I’m not anymore. I feel like the crampy feeling I had for the first couple of weeks was very reassuring that something was going on in there and now I just feel like that stoped and it means something bad. This is just...too much. But it is what it is. What is the PAIF board? Pregnant after infertility??@lucyb1954 how goes the estrogen priming? What day do you go in for baseline? @c-town18 yes. Exactly what you wrote. All of that. Serious PTSD over here. I’m so glad you understand. ❤️ Hope everyone else is doing ok. Sending love and peace to all.

  • @lucyb1954 @hopefuljj thank you for the well wishes.
I just couldn’t bring myself to get online yesterday. So out of all those follicles they were only able to retrieve 3 eggs. All the other follicles were “empty”. Out of three only one was mature. This was hard for me to digest, since the follicle sizes were 24, 22, 19, 18, etc the day of the trigger. Anyway, they called me this morning to tell me that the one mature did fertilize, so that’s good news. But at this point I’m being cautiously optimistic.
I did some research online (gotta love google) and it looks like I may have empty follicle syndrome (EFS). And that I just ovulate too early, not giving my eggs enough time to mature. It’s funny because this is probably the reason none of the IUIs worked for me. In those instances my largest follicle was 20 or 21.
Ive also contacted my nurse to see about doing a fresh transfer instead of a frozen one. The whole point (or a major one) of the frozen option was to do PGS testing to pick the best embryo, but since I only potentially have one embryo I don’t see the reason behind PGS testing. Thoughts? My head and heart is still spinning a little, but I do know I wouldn’t be armed with this new information had we not gone through this process!

  • @31magnolia I’m so sorry. This whole process is awful. I don’t have any advice on fresh vs frozen because I have to do frozen so I haven’t thought about it. Was your RE tracking your E2 levels through stims? Seems like that would have indicated empty follicles, not that having that information ahead of time would have made it better. Hugs ❤️❤️❤️

@hopefuljj the estrogen priming kinda sucks this time around, my stomach has been really upset. Baseline is Friday. I’m nervous/scared. Had one successful cycle but there is always the chance of cancellation, eggs that don’t fertilize or make it to day 5, etc. trying to just focus on one step at a time- baseline. I’m sure things are super nerve wracking right now ❤️ When is your next scan? I’ve definitely been thinking about you. How are you feeling physically? ❤️❤️❤️
    31magnoliaemmasemm
  • @lucyb1954 she was tracking my E2 and the number kept going up. I believe on trigger day it was 1931. The day before that it was 1737 and two days before that it was 1158. It’s just strange.
  • @31magnolia I’m so sorry.   I know how devastating that is.  That was what happened to me on my 2nd cycle.  I thought I was going to be in for 6-7 mature follicles and they only retrieved  2 or 3 and the rest empty.  Nothing made it to say 5 that cycle.  It was devastating.  My doctor at the time said it can be that the quality is so bad the eggs just disintegrated during aspiration....she tried aspirating those follicles repeatedly but found nothing inside. The estrogen is a weird thing, some people have issues where they need a double trigger because it didn’t mature and release all the eggs but I think mostly with DOR it might just be an issue where we get these takeout follicles.
I am so sorry and rooting for your one to grow grow grow.   The empty follicles are such a cruel cruel experience to have.

@lucyb1954 ugh, I’m sorry, estrogen kinda sucks:( my scan is also Friday, I’ll be thinking of you while I’m in a total nervous panic and wishing you the best!  Cycling is so stressful, this whole damn process is so stressful!  I feel ok. Have a cold and am trying to ignore the symptoms that come and go and freak me out constantly.  I don’t believe any of them mean anything  and then when they go I freak out until they return. So I’m just a crazy person over here.   I hope your tummy feels better soon.

  • My post didn’t post the other day.....ugh this app!!
@31magnolia great measurements indeed!! It’s all tricky and sux!!  The other ladies raised the same question I had with your E2, definitely sounds like you had more cooking.  So sorry! It’s so hard to have faith in the process. As we know it does only take one, trying a fresh transfer can be just the way to go, good luck!!

@emmasemm u always crack me up! Cervix check, I could never get that right ever, u go mama! U do whatever it is to keep urself calm! In just a few more weeks I shall start to feel some Lil kicks! I was petrified till I saw her! I blame the IF 100%!  Hope u get to enjoy some of the magic!

@hopefuljj I knew the 18th would be magical!! It’s a rough go as I mentioned above it never gets easier! Hoping everything is just smooth sailing for you.  I know it’s hard to stay positive! You just keep talking to ur precious miracle and sit tight! I was so sick through out my pregnancy and once I felt ok for a min I would think the worst.  It’s just part of what we have gone through, it’s so normal!! When’s your next appt?

  • @hopeful_mom lots of love to you for all your support

@hopefuljj @lucyb1954 end of the week is going to be busy - my next scan is on Thursday evening. This morning I’m meeting the midwife who I hope will take care of me in the weeks after the birth. They come almost every day to your house!

@31magnolia I’m so sorry to read your retrieval result. This would however perfectly explain why your AMH and AFC don’t match if most cycles your Antral follicles don’t all contain egg potential. I would once again suggest they do test you for the common causes. My understanding is EFS is a symptom not a diagnosis in itself - something causes the empty follicles.
It can be they just got the timing wrong. If you trigger too early not all eggs can mature for retrieval and if you retrieve too early or with not a high enough dose of HCG then not all eggs mature either. Typically immature eggs stick to the side of the follicle and aren’t floating freely in the fluid in the follicle which is why they can’t be aspirated. But it’s basically impossible to tell if the follicle was truly empty or the eggs stuck to the side. That only one of the three they did find was mature might point to being too early or not enough HCG if you try another round.
Remember we triggered me at 24mm plus each time and with a triple trigger to get good quality mature eggs. Though I am an outlier for sure.
I hope your one keeps going!!! and as PGT-A is really a selection tool for the best embryo then not doing it makes sense. I mean you run the risk of then finding a chromosome disorder via NIPT and having to decide what to do then, but you would have the same issue if you fell pregnant naturally. We did not do PGT-A in the end for that reason.
Finally, whatever the outcome you have just learnt so so much about what has made it difficult so far.

And one final very naughty note - don’t tell your RE! If some follicles have eggs stuck to their walls, they might release a few days later. So if you feel up to a bit of sex, well you might get lucky. This is how it happens for those people who have a fresh transfer of one embryo but end up with fraternal twins- they ignore the advice not to have sex after retrieval and the doctors have left behind an egg or two... so tiny chance. But every tiny chance was worth it for me.

  • @lucyb1954 @Hopeful_mom @emmasemm thanks!  Well just got the news this little guy made it to day two, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.
@emmasemm you’re right about EFS being a symptom and I plan to go over everything with my doctor in a couple of weeks. I also read an article about using higher meds up front (I think with ganerilex)  and then lowering them and at least doubling the trigger. Sounds a  little like what you mentioned above.
I did talk to my doctor briefly yesterday, but that was mostly about switching to a fresh cycle, which she agreed to do, as long as the little bugger makes it to day 5. If it goes past day 5, she wants to freeze and transfer next cycle. Regardless, we are skipping PGS testing. But you’re right I’ve learned so much more about my body!
Thanks everyone! I’ll keep you updated.
  • @emmasemm also lol at you naughty note! Whatever it takes!
  • @31magnolia it sounds like you’re on the right track. Sucks to have to learn more every cycle because it’s so expensive! I’m rooting for your embie! Go little guy go!

@emmasemm even if you’re not a doctor you should be a DOR consultant for a clinic or something! It makes me wonder about my trigger. Last time I had 2 mature, 1 immature, which is what we were expecting. Should I talk with my doctor about a dual? I think we did 10K of the HCG last time. How’s your bump coming along? Buying maternity wear yet? 😃

@hopefuljj I can only imagine the craziness in your brain right now! After all you’ve been through, it’s totally normal what you’re feeling. Any hobbies to distract you? I’ve started doing puzzles, super hard 1000 piece ones. Saves my brain when I’m at home and have time to think!

And yes, that book is going to have to be written! Actually many years ago I dreamt of writing a book whilst on maternity leave - let’s see how much time i really have lol!

@hopeful_mom give it a few minutes and you will have PM  :)

    So ladies! Update in spoiler!

Miss Ferrari is absolutely text book again. Still measuring 3 days ahead like the whole time, now weighs 185g and everything looks great. She was moving around like a little dancer the whole time and puts her hands in front of her head as if to say “no more pictures please!”.
My blood pressure was as ever high at the doctors office. So now I have to measure it three times a day until the next appointment to prove it’s only there and watch it trend.
My cervix is super long and closed (one of my biggest fears...) - but placenta is still completely covering my cervix. She said 90% chance it stays covering enough to need a C section. Also said, any bleeding at all and I’m on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy. Luckily, she said nothing is getting through my cervix right now lol! But I shouldn’t plan on working more than another 10 weeks... let’s see!

  • @emmasemm lots of nerve wracking details to coordinate but all in all, sounds like you’re in good shape and lil one is happy and healthy in there! Yay!!!!

baseline today was a little weird, still waiting for bloodwork results. But I’ve got 10 follicles between 2.5-6mm, one follicle at 11mm, and one at 12mm. The nurse said the larger ones are likely inactive? I’ve never heard of this but I seriously hope that they’re not emerging cysts 😑 in any case, hopefully there’s some potential behind those little ones.

@31magnolia sending you all good wishes! Maybe that lil embryo will be happy in your uterus and decide to call it home.

@hopefuljj thinking about you! @Imajin99 how are you doing? ❤️❤️❤️

  • @lucyb1954 Thank you for thinking of me. I logged in a few days ago and read all the messages of support but for some reason I could not post. So hopefully this one works.

Thank-you everyone for your support. We met with the RE this morning and started the process for DE and will be setting up a call with the co-ordinator. So much to consider and various options even an insurance plan.  It is quite costly however factoring the time and money we have spent so far for minimal results I think this will be the best step to give us our precious baby.

Will catch up on everyone's posts soon but hope everyone is doing well and all cycles going on are proving to be successful.

  • Hi @Imajin99 I hope everything can move speedily along for you. I know you’re just emerging from the disappointment of your last cycle ❤️❤️❤️ Thinking good thoughts for ya.

My bloodwork showed that my LH was up at 40 and FSH down at 16. They almost exactly flip flopped 🙈 and I wonder if it has anything to do with coming off the DHEA which I’d been on for awhile. Anyway  another week of estrogen priming which I really hate. My emotions are crazy and I’m nauseous and bloated. Plus disappointed I can’t start stims. Oof.

  • @31magnolia crossing everything for you lady!! I hope the wait goes by quick! Enjoy being PUPO! @emmasemm so glad your little girl is doing great! How interesting about the placenta:-/ not familiar with that issue. pregnancy is so crazy. Long and closed is great for your cervix!! @lucyb1954 did you get the bloodwork back? I wonder why they think the larger ones are inactive? I hope they are not cysts:-/ rooting for those little ones big time!! @Imajin99 I’m so glad you have a plan and are able to move forward! I’m happy to chat if you want to about anything donor. This is a great next step to getting your precious take home baby:) :) AFM I was a hot mess at my scan. DH is away so I was on my own. I was just breathing deep with my eyes closed while he did the measuring trying not to fall apart and then all of a sudden I hear this noise....cuz he turned the sound on during the ultrasound, so I just whispered, what is that....and he goes, what do you think it is? And I just cried. Unbelievably grateful to have finally gotten this far. Unbelievably grateful to my donor as well for helping me get here. I know I still have a long way to go, but hearing that heartbeat was insane. So for today I’m happy. I’m sure I’ll be a mess again in 2 days. Ha! I am 6weeks 5 days. It was measuring at 6 weeks 4 days, but he said that is fine? So trying not to think too much about that. Ok...it’s sure been a day.

IVF 2 - stimmed for 19 days. insanity. Had 5 follicles that looked mature but only 2 contained mature eggs the others were empty.  Nothing made it to day 5
IVF 3 - added in HGH - 4 mature follicles (had some empties again) 3 made it to day 5/6 for PGS (held for testing with next retrieval
IVF 4 - Upped my dosage for the first time - Canceled 11 days into sims - looked like 1 follicle and we were afraid it was empty
IVF 5 - Canceled -  looked like 1 follicle and we were afraid it was empty

  • @hopefuljj yay!!! So happy for you! Continuing to send positive thoughts your way!
It was funny earlier today right before the transfer the doctor gave me Valium via an the needle they used for bloodwork. That stuff hit me hard. I don’t remember anything that happened in between. My SO said my eyes were glazed and I had a huge smile on my face, but I was awake for the entire time. Haha!
    Imajin99
  • @hopefuljj omg!!! I am so so happy! Measuring +/- even 4-5 days is fine as the measurements are so small at that stage. And I am sooooo damn happy you heard that HB! Every scan my eyes are fixed on the screen until I see the heart beating.  Then I can relax and follow the rest of the scan no problem. But like you, after a few days the relief starts being replaced by anxiety again step by step. Hope you can get nice regular scans to keep it under control.

@lucyb1954 hope that fsh keeps coming down next week. And really hope those two bigger ones weren’t already less follicles. If bloodwork shows they’re not active you’re fine.

@imajin99 pleased to hear you’ve started the DE journey now. Like you say, yes it’s expensive, but the chance of success is so much higher and you have given your own eggs an absolutely fair chance. Keeping everything crossed you will not have too much waiting.

@31magnolia glad your transfer went well!

  • @hopefuljj WOOT!!!! I was thinking about you! Kept checking the board to see if there was any update. I know you got a ways to go but I’m excited and feeling positive for you and sending good thoughts your way.

I’m just trying to keep busy for this next week of priming. Honestly I think the estrace wreaks more havoc on my mood than the stims and my hair seems to be falling out??? WTH???

My RE and I agreed that I should see a genetic counselor about the one affected embryo that is chromosomally normal. I don’t know if that will change my mind but more information is always better.
    emmasemm
  • @lucyb1954 so are they going to check labs again a week or so?
  • @31magnolia yep, going in for a second baseline on Friday. Hopefully can start stims the following day, my patience is being seriously tested!
  • @lucyb1954 oh the hair loss.  The insane amount of hair loss I have suffered over the past 4 years is insane! I struggle so hard with it....I started to use Biotin shampoo by a company called honeydew...game changer.
@emmasemm when do they make you switch to an OBGYN!? I’m so nervous because I still feel like and imposter so I haven’t looked into it yet but I really need someone who will do scans more often than every 4 weeks?!!!!!! Like no way. NO way.  @31magnolia hoping your little embaby is snuggling in!

  • I can’t afford to lose any more hair! It’s already thinning too much!

@hopefuljj thanks! Me too! I’m definitely going under the belief that I’m pregnant until the test on 10/11 tells me otherwise! Not sure why my clinic scheduled my beta 14 dpt.

Also, the clinic upped my estrogen to 4 tablets a day (2 orally and 2 vaginally) so I am so tired all day. My levels were still really good but they dipped a little since the ER.
  • @hopefuljj I did all my follow up with the OB who had done my local monitoring and just sent my results each week to my clinic. And the clinic dictated how often I should be seen, which was weekly to 10 weeks and then final scan was NT measurement, then I got the Harmony results at 14 weeks which meant I finally graduated. But this was pretty special.
Most clinic’s seem to do the 6 week heartbeat scan, then another at 8-9 weeks at which you graduate to an OB - first appointment ASAP then the 12 week scan and testing as the next one.
We made it clear with my OB if there was no medical necessity for more frequent appointments then we would anyhow like to pay for them as managing mental health is just as important as physical health (no doctor can deny that...) but “luckily” my adenomyosis and now placenta previa are giving me scans with max 2 week gap anyhow at the moment. Though you don’t want to wish for placenta previa...

@31magnolia I also had to up my estrogen before and after transfer. I ended up on 6 tablets orally and a patch every day. (We also had to up my progesterone multiple times too... ending on 4x2 suppositories a day, plus two injections a day) It’s good they are monitoring your levels - so many clinics don’t do that without asking!

  • 31magnolia - Do you think you'll test at home before the beta?!  I was a serial home-tester, I could never hold out until the beta.  I hope the time passes quickly for you!

@hopefuljj - You're not an imposter, so far it sounds like you're the real deal girl!  *TW* Once you graduate to your OB, the waiting time between ultrasounds is rough. They DO have hand held heartbeat monitors for home use if that would help give you some peace of mind between visits.  And then once you get farther along you'll feel the baby kicking each day and know all is well!  *End TW*

Imajin99 - I'm happy answer any DE questions you might have too!  There's a lot to think about I know.  Hopefully you're feeling excited though rather than overwhelmed by it all.

  • @emmasemm that’s good to know! I was worried I was taking too much.
@lucyb1954 I will be thinking about you for Friday!
AFM, I freaked out early this morning. My uterus started contracting on its own for some seconds and then I got very strong cramps that lasted what felt like at least 10 minutes.  I hope it was nothing, but I got extremely emotional about it and was scared to death that my body did something to disrupt the implantation. I eventually calmed down and Decided that there wasn’t anything I could do about it, so I’m going back to PUPO, but that was a very scary feeling!
    emmasemm
  • @hopefuljj- omg soooo happy for you!! Seeing the heartbeat is a huge sign and the odds are very much in your favor now for a THB!! Can’t wait for your next scan!!

@emmasemm- glad things are going well. Not ideal about the placenta but so glad they are watching you closely!!!

@lmajin- I’m also here if you have any donor questions. Honestly, once that baby is there, you won’t ever regret it. I was so unsure I would feel this way- but I honestly can imagine any other baby!

  • Annoying when the bump acts wonky!!!

@hopefuljj WOOHOO!! For the best sound ever!!!  If brain makes it all frightening for sure.  I stayed with my clinic till week 11 to make sure all was good.  Usually ur done after 3 US  or bet 8/10 weeks...usually.  Each clinic is different but usually ur ob will want to see u by 12weeks. I believe ur over 35 so this should put u I to the category of being checked more with ur ob and an AMA which would then have u being checked every 2 weeks, which is what I needed for piece of mind. My ob was amazing and did an US every time to look at everything and not just listen to the HB so it definitely helped ease my aniexty...at least to the next day  :D when is the next appt? Sorry hubs missed it he’ll get to be at many more!!

  • Hi everyone, thanks so much for all the kind thoughts ❤️ Things went well today, FSH at 5, LH at 18, so we’re moving ahead. I think for my last cycle both numbers were about at 18. At least one of the inactive follicles is gone so that seems good too. I’m thinking about you ladies! @31magnolia when is beta? @hopefuljj ❤️❤️❤️ @emmasemm how ya feeling?

Im so happy to be stopping the estrace! I wasn’t going to be able to do another week of it, it makes me depressed. Plus a good family friend passed away and i just am so ready for this to happen. My mom is older than this friend and I just want her to have the chance to know a little baby of mine.
    emmasemmc-town1831magnoliaImajin99
  • @lucyb1954 glad everything went well! I feel you on the parent thing. My dad is older and I just want him to know a little baby of mine, too!
my beta is Friday, 10/11. I’m debating on doing HPT next week. I’m scared to know the results though and my SO is no help. He says he’ll support me either way. I think I’m going to try and hold out as long as I can. I bought a new book on my Kindle, I’ll be going to the movies, and I’ll  try and get back to doing my barre classes. We’ll see how long I last. Lol
  • @lucyb1954 so pleased you will be able to start stims and stop the estrace! I hate being on Estrace, doing a natural transfer was mainly to avoid being on it.   I feel so hard about your mom...my mom passed when I was 13 and my dad is really really showing his age. I can barely stand to think about it and I am filled with dread when I see him because he just seems so frail now....
    ugh.
@31magnolia so so hoping for great news at your Friday Beta!  I’ve gone both the route of testing and not...they both have their pros and cons. Hang in there!!

AFM my RE tried to discharge me on Friday but I threw a fit so will see him again next Friday and I’m looking for an OBGYN.  I’m 38 but apparently I don’t need a high risk OBGYN? I dunno. I’m not ready for any of this! @Hopeful_mom does that sound right?
My RE said they would consult with one if anything happened to turn my pregnancy high risk but being over 35 doesn’t mean you need a special doctor....  when you say AMA do you mean a high risk OBGYN for advanced maternal age?
