Hi @emmasemm! What size should the follies be before trigger? I go in tomorrow for another scan and bloodwork. What’s a harmony test? Is that when you find out the sex? So exciting!
@lucyb1954 everyone is a bit different for what the follicle size needs to be... so it’s difficult to say... but it’s unlikely they will be overmature unless they’re really big like 25+ when you trigger... whereas if they are 18-20, you might get eggs but there is a risk you will be told they’re immature... it’s very difficult to know the first time. I would just urge you that if your biggest one won’t be 25+ and you’ve got some that are round 18, maybe another day or so might give them a chance... but I would really suggest you discuss it with your doctor - this is the “artistic” part of the ART!
A harmony test is one of he NIPT tests available that analyses the cell free fetal dna which is find in the mother’s blood from around 10 weeks onwards. It tests for some of the most common genetic conditions. It’s not diagnostic, only a screening, but gives a good indication if you more invasive diagnostic tests might be advisable. And yes, it does also tell you the sex! But we are legally not allowed to know before 14 weeks here - the testing company don’t even send the sex part of the results to my OB until 14 weeks! I’m very nervous about it due to my age. But trying (and not always succeeding) to stay calm whilst we’re waiting...

@lucyb1954 follicle trigger size also depends on how they are measuring the follicles. Some doctors measure the longest diameter (follicles are often not round but oval) and others will do a mean of the longest and shortest diameter. Just noting that because 25 can mean very different things. I’ve had doctors that do it both ways, so my RE would warn me if I was coming in for monitoring on the weekend (and she wasn’t the on call dr) which way the on call dr. measured so I didn’t freak out when all of a sudden it sounded like all my follies were much bigger than her read out had been at my last scan. I often ended up loosing the biggest follicle...a sacrifice to get the rest:-/ ugh. This part is so stressful right??? I hear you on turning 38. I’m 38.5 now. Uuuggghhhhhh!!! And my ovaries are 60. Lol.

Miscarriage at 8 weeks. viability scan had shown an enlarged yolk sac so I had been warned that it was likely not chromosonally normal

That’s why the awful weekend nurse asked me if I read it wrong even though I had been using the way they measure it. Lolz I hear you on the 60 year old ovaries!!! Forreelz. @emmasemm I’m anxious to hear about your harmony test results too! But I think they’ll be fine. Why won’t they let you know the sex until 14 weeks? That seems weird if the information is available. Also what measurement does your clinic use for follies?

And not being able to know the gender is due to the law in Germany. It’s to protect from people choosing to abort because they don’t want the one that it is. I mean for all us IF ladies, we would never dream of that. But there are many societies around the world where you have big gender imbalances because this was common practice in underground OB clinics for decades.

@emmasemm oh I understand now. Because I carry an X linked chromosomal disorder which more severely impacts male children my mind went to the fact that having a male vs female child could have a big impact on whether to TFMR.
I went in for another scan today. The measurements are all over the map from my last appointments...16.5, 11, 9, 8,8,8. But my estradiol is up to 700 which explains why I’ve been crying all day! Not to mention the whole birthday thing.
In in any case, although the numbers are low we’re going to press on with this cycle and retrieval. At least we’ll know if my eggs are golden AF or 💩 😂 and whether we should try another OE cycle or go to DE. I’ve also spoken with my doctor about triggering. We’re going to reassess after my ultrasound and bloodwork tomorrow to see where we’re at with size/E2 but she says she can be convinced to go another day or 2 longer but I’m also at SD 15 so she doesn’t want to go too much longer and risk the egg arresting.
Trying to to remain positive and “egg” on those last follies to join the party!
@lucyb1954 How are you doing? How many days have you been stimming for? It looks like your Estradiol level has really picked up. When will they give you a trigger shot and retrieve?

I’m hoping your results are on their way @emmasemm. It must be an agonizing wait! Ugh. There’s never any stop to the hurry up and wait game during all of this, is there? So many hoops to jump through.
AFM went in for another scan today. Follies at 21, 15, 12, and a couple of 8/9s. Estradiol now deciding to join the party at 812. I’ll be triggering tonight. I don’t want to risk losing that bigger one but I’m still hoping the 12 and 15 catch up a little bit and are retrievable. Retrieval is Thursday 😬 so we’ll see. Sometimes my follies are hard to measure because my right ovary likes to hide and my uterus is tilted so I’m hoping maybe they’re a wee bit bigger.
All you ladies are strong AF. I’m sending out my hopes and good heart vibes for everyone.
@imajin99 take the time you need. Just know you’ll probably never feel 100% ready - but hopefully you’ll know when you feel “ready enough”. For whatever next step you choose

They waited from Friday morning until Tuesday to tell my clinic, so the director gave them a piece of her mind and they have promised to try to still have my results sent out before my appointment next week, but of course no guarantees... so we might have to wait longer So yes, just when you get through one step there is always more waiting lurking just around the corner!!!

Imajin99 - I tell people I have some form of ptsd from all of the infertility ups and downs and repeat losses. They think I'm exaggerating when I say that but I'm kinda not. Retrieved 3 eggs at ER today. 2 good sized ones and 1 smaller one. Still in post -anesthesia/nerves fog and on to hoping they all fertilize successfully. Then if they make it to day 5 blast I’ll probably want to do another round and bank a few as some might be affected by Fragile X. If this round is a bust, we’ll regroup and see what we are up for. Have folks on here have rounds that are total busts and still had successful cycles after?
SO’s sample was not as motile as they had hoped so we are doing ICSI.

Hey @lucyb82 I’m glad they got 3!!! Hoping they are mature and fertilization is great! We always had to do ICSI too but that should be ok!!! I personally had good cycles and bad cycles but wasn’t not successful but I have seen plenty of ladies who were eventually successful! I wish I could offer more hope from a personal story but as you know mine isn’t great. Thinking of you and hoping for a fast recovery and great reports to come!!

Sent in IVF round 3 and 6 (4 embryos) for PGS testing and got 2 normal embryos!!! 1Boy and 1Girl. Took a little over a year to get those two embryos so demanded all sorts of test prior to attempting transfer. Did EFT, ERA and NK Cells testing.
FET#1 - Intralipid drips, Prednisone, and did a depot lupron shot before starting the FET protocol Chemical pregnancy FET#2 - PGS normal boy - BFN Natural pregnancy - cycle following the FET2???? Miscarriage at 8 weeks. viability scan had shown an enlarged yolk sac so I had been warned that it was likely not chromosonally normal
DEIVF cycle - picked a donor who is willing to be open! Her cycle resulted in in 4 PGS Normal embryos 1st transfer - chemical pregnancy 2nd transfer - success, May 17 2020 due date!

2-3 eggs retrieved was our normal number, we had 1-2 mature each time and all the mature ones always fertilized. We tried both ICSI and normal IVF - in the end no difference for us, but if the sperm sample is not top quality then good to err on the side of ICSI. If you can manage it mentally and financially then I think banking a few rounds would be good - like you say then you have more chances to have some free of fragile x. Plus like you’ve seen with us, you might need more than one good one (or you might get lucky on first transfer!).

@lucyb1954 fantastic - come on those two little embryos! I did back to back cycles during banking, so after retrieval we started estrogen priming a few days later again, then when AF came went for baseline and started stimming day 2 again if baseline was good. However AF always arrived for me 13-15 days after retrieval, like clockwork! If you’re not quite so regular you can use progesterone to make sure AF doesn’t arrive too early.

Great news @lucyb1954 sending extra miracle grow ur way! U got this!! **trigger, loss and preganancy mentioned** I had a few cycles and I originally thought they were all successful in terms of getting to blast stage until I did Pgs testing and had everything come back abnormal in a cycle so it was a very hard rollercoaster with many tears! I was very lucky I did finally get my rainbow. I never updated my signature but I did do eight rounds of ivf. I had a terrible MC as to y I ended up doing pgs....even though I still mc a normal embryo. I’ll always wonder if my embryos could correct themselves inside. This part is grueling and frustrating for sure, but I have high hopes for you!

Well I didn’t get my Harmony results today as the lab promised... so we went to the appointment, doctor called them and still not ready... and had a lovely US instead to try to reduce my nerves at least a little. So now DH is on a business trip and I will get a call in the morning saying all is ok, or please come to the OB office. Terrified is an understatement.

However-I’m very very hopeful your results will be fine. The little bean has stuck around, which I know isn’t an absolute guarantee of okay-ness but still I’m firmly hopeful for you. @Hopeful_mom 👋🏼 Hi! I got news back today that the embryos did well and both were biopsied, results back in a couple of weeks. They’re both BBS. I’m really excited they both made it. It’s a hard road though- one or both could be affected by Fragile X or other anomalies and I’m trying to be hopeful and take it step by step. Thanks for being hopeful for me ❤️ We’re likely doing another cycle but I didn’t feel emotionally game to dive right back in. I stimmed for 16 days and feel like I’m still reeling a bit from hormones. And the thought of giving myself another shot right now just makes me want to puke.

@lucyb1954 wonderful news!!! I’m so hoping you get 2 normies! My first round of IVF did not go well for me. It seemed like it was going great until PGS results returned 0 normies:( that is not the norm though at all, so hoping you get great results soon! Crossing everything!!!!

I get wanting to take a break, stemming 16 days is brutal and I’ve had cycles like that however I did do back to back cycles where I had success in getting normies back to back...you just never know how your body will behave.

Thanks everyone - but it will be at least one more sleepless night - still no damn results today! I threw up everything I tried to eat and drink this morning - not morning sickness but just from the stress as I was expecting a call first thing... they let me know lunchtime they still didn’t have it... then my OB called this evening at 7pm to say still not there and she will call them tomorrow - but is only in the office after 2pm so I know not to be waiting for a call in the morning. That was nice of her to do that after hours - but I asked if them delaying the release might mean they don’t have enough fetal dna again and she said yes it could be because they’re testing the second sample. I also asked if they might test the second sample if the first one showed a problem - she said also yes... but said there was really no problem to see on our US so I have to keep repeating to myself that it looks text book to try to help ease my anxiety. She also prescribed going to McDonald’s and buying two portions of fries for my dinner as they do release endorphins and calm you down - so I’ve just done that! And my anxiety level has definitely dropped a notch.

Me: Hashimoto Autoimune Disease Homozygous MTHFR Cr677 DOR - AMH .27 High FSH (don't even know how high) 2 iui's to start - BFN IVF 1 -3 made it do day 5! 2 5AA 1 6BB PGS results = all abnormal IVF 2 - stimmed for 19 days. insanity. Had 5 follicles that looked mature but only 2 contained mature eggs the others were empty. Nothing made it to day 5 IVF 3 - added in HGH - 4 mature follicles (had some empties again) 3 made it to day 5/6 for PGS (held for testing with next retrieval IVF 4 - Upped my dosage for the first time - Canceled 11 days into sims - looked like 1 follicle and we were afraid it was empty IVF 5 - Canceled - looked like 1 follicle and we were afraid it was empty IVF 6 - 3 mature, 2 fertalized 1 made it to day 5 and sent for PGS
Sent in IVF round 3 and 6 (4 embryos) for PGS testing and got 2 normal embryos!!! 1Boy and 1Girl. Took a little over a year to get those two embryos so demanded all sorts of test prior to attempting transfer. Did EFT, ERA and NK Cells testing.
FET#1 - Intralipid drips, Prednisone, and did a depot lupron shot before starting the FET protocol Chemical pregnancy FET#2 - PGS normal boy - BFN Natural pregnancy - cycle following the FET2???? Miscarriage at 8 weeks. viability scan had shown an enlarged yolk sac so I had been warned that it was likely not chromosonally normal
DEIVF cycle - picked a donor who is willing to be open! Her cycle resulted in in 4 PGS Normal embryos 1st transfer - chemical pregnancy 2nd transfer - success, May 17 2020 due date!
So! Big relief all round - low risk for the trisomies! We only get the sex linked results back after 14 weeks, but I’m so relieved the trisomies are clear. It will now be a much more relaxing weekend - before I ramp up for the NT scan next Wednesday

AFM: Still in funk and don't want to think about anything as of yet. I emailed my doctor and advised will try a cycle for Sept & October. My cycles are fairly back to normal so lets hope for the best.

@Imajin99 I think it will be a couple of weeks which feels torturous. I thought about doing a cycle right after just to keep busy lolz but was kind of emotionally fried and needing a break. Are you doing an OE or DE cycle? My next cycle will probably start around the beginning of October so maybe we’ll be stimming together. Hope the arrival of your favorite season helps clear the funk a bit ❤️ It’s supposed to be dastardly hot here in Utah this weekend so we’ll likely take a day trip to the mountains. Looking forward to the days when we get sub 95 weather!

lucyb1954 - I have everything crossed for you! The PGS wait was always the hardest for me, don't know why, I found it even harder than the TWW. At least you'll know something in the next day or so! Hang in there.
Yesterday was our NT scan - measurement was 1.3mm and nasal bone is fully in place. We didn’t do the blood test part, but even with that info it was enough to take me out of the high risk category for all trisomies too - so basically Harmony said no sign genetically and first trimester screening says low statistical risk which is basically as good as it gets!!! Our lovely OB also spent more than an hour measuring and showing us everything she could see and printed us lots of photos. To get a full profile shot was only possible abdominally as little one is now 8cm long already! We could already this early (13+5) see all four chambers of the heart which was truly amazing. I made her check the spine and no sign of it still being open, but will check again in 3 weeks time. And I asked to check for an omphalocele as well as signs of osteogenesis imperfecta. She said I’ve clearly been watching too much greys anatomy but once again would I like a job because she says I’m the only person in 30 years to ask these detailed questions! She also said she is going to find it very entertaining when we choose a hospital as they are not going to be ready for the detailed questions - especially in German from an English girl! She was also pretty certain on the sex, but we should get it confirmed from Harmony on Monday or Tuesday! This morning I will mail our “announcement parcel” to my parents - really hope it arrives Saturday (big ask even with express international...) so we can tell them as I do finally feel ready to tell a few very close people.

genetic testing results back today. Both embryos are male, both affected by Fragile X, one with 75 repeats and one with 98 repeats. While neither are full mutation I don’t think I feel comfortable implanting either given the risk to males later on in life for FXTAS, a disease that is somewhat like Parkinson’s.
I’d like to do another OE cycle before DE but that will be a conversation with SO tonight to see how he feels. 😢

Re: Low AMH Level
A harmony test is one of he NIPT tests available that analyses the cell free fetal dna which is find in the mother’s blood from around 10 weeks onwards. It tests for some of the most common genetic conditions. It’s not diagnostic, only a screening, but gives a good indication if you more invasive diagnostic tests might be advisable. And yes, it does also tell you the sex! But we are legally not allowed to know before 14 weeks here - the testing company don’t even send the sex part of the results to my OB until 14 weeks!
I’m very nervous about it due to my age. But trying (and not always succeeding) to stay calm whilst we’re waiting...

@emmasemm I’m anxious to hear about your harmony test results too! But I think they’ll be fine. Why won’t they let you know the sex until 14 weeks? That seems weird if the information is available. Also what measurement does your clinic use for follies?
And not being able to know the gender is due to the law in Germany. It’s to protect from people choosing to abort because they don’t want the one that it is. I mean for all us IF ladies, we would never dream of that. But there are many societies around the world where you have big gender imbalances because this was common practice in underground OB clinics for decades.

I went in for another scan today. The measurements are all over the map from my last appointments...16.5, 11, 9, 8,8,8. But my estradiol is up to 700 which explains why I’ve been crying all day! Not to mention the whole birthday thing.
In in any case, although the numbers are low we’re going to press on with this cycle and retrieval. At least we’ll know if my eggs are golden AF or 💩 😂 and whether we should try another OE cycle or go to DE. I’ve also spoken with my doctor about triggering. We’re going to reassess after my ultrasound and bloodwork tomorrow to see where we’re at with size/E2 but she says she can be convinced to go another day or 2 longer but I’m also at SD 15 so she doesn’t want to go too much longer and risk the egg arresting.
Trying to to remain positive and “egg” on those last follies to join the party!
@lucyb1954 How are you doing? How many days have you been stimming for? It looks like your Estradiol level has really picked up. When will they give you a trigger shot and retrieve?

I’m hoping your results are on their way @emmasemm. It must be an agonizing wait! Ugh. There’s never any stop to the hurry up and wait game during all of this, is there? So many hoops to jump through.
AFM went in for another scan today. Follies at 21, 15, 12, and a couple of 8/9s. Estradiol now deciding to join the party at 812. I’ll be triggering tonight. I don’t want to risk losing that bigger one but I’m still hoping the 12 and 15 catch up a little bit and are retrievable. Retrieval is Thursday 😬 so we’ll see. Sometimes my follies are hard to measure because my right ovary likes to hide and my uterus is tilted so I’m hoping maybe they’re a wee bit bigger.
All you ladies are strong AF. I’m sending out my hopes and good heart vibes for everyone.
@lucyb1954 yay for getting to trigger! With your biggest one at 21 and how many days you’ve been stimming it’s probably good to not wait longer. 21 is a really good size. With your E2 Levels it does sound like the 12 and 15 might be well on their way too - keeping fingers crossed for great news on Thursday!
AFM small drama yesterday as had to rush and re do my Harmony blood draw - neither of my first two vials contained enough fetal dna. They waited from Friday morning until Tuesday to tell my clinic, so the director gave them a piece of her mind and they have promised to try to still have my results sent out before my appointment next week, but of course no guarantees... so we might have to wait longer
So yes, just when you get through one step there is always more waiting lurking just around the corner!!!

Retrieved 3 eggs at ER today. 2 good sized ones and 1 smaller one. Still in post -anesthesia/nerves fog and on to hoping they all fertilize successfully. Then if they make it to day 5 blast I’ll probably want to do another round and bank a few as some might be affected by Fragile X. If this round is a bust, we’ll regroup and see what we are up for. Have folks on here have rounds that are total busts and still had successful cycles after?
SO’s sample was not as motile as they had hoped so we are doing ICSI.
1 hoop jumped through, 5000 more to go! Keeping you ladies in my thoughts. I’m so grateful for your support and I’m praying for the bestest for all of us
Hoping they are mature and fertilization is great! We always had to do ICSI too but that should be ok!!!
I personally had good cycles and bad cycles but wasn’t not successful but I have seen plenty of ladies who were eventually successful! I wish I could offer more hope from a personal story but as you know mine isn’t great. Thinking of you and hoping for a fast recovery and great reports to come!!

2-3 eggs retrieved was our normal number, we had 1-2 mature each time and all the mature ones always fertilized. We tried both ICSI and normal IVF - in the end no difference for us, but if the sperm sample is not top quality then good to err on the side of ICSI.
If you can manage it mentally and financially then I think banking a few rounds would be good - like you say then you have more chances to have some free of fragile x. Plus like you’ve seen with us, you might need more than one good one (or you might get lucky on first transfer!).

2 eggs were mature and both fertilized. One more hoop jumped through, only 4999 more to go! Now just praying that they make it to day 5 ❤️
I did back to back cycles during banking, so after retrieval we started estrogen priming a few days later again, then when AF came went for baseline and started stimming day 2 again if baseline was good. However AF always arrived for me 13-15 days after retrieval, like clockwork!
If you’re not quite so regular you can use progesterone to make sure AF doesn’t arrive too early.

I had a few cycles and I originally thought they were all successful in terms of getting to blast stage until I did Pgs testing and had everything come back abnormal in a cycle so it was a very hard rollercoaster with many tears! I was very lucky I did finally get my rainbow. I never updated my signature but I did do eight rounds of ivf. I had a terrible MC as to y I ended up doing pgs....even though I still mc a normal embryo. I’ll always wonder if my embryos could correct themselves inside.
This part is grueling and frustrating for sure, but I have high hopes for you!

@Hopeful_mom 👋🏼 Hi! I got news back today that the embryos did well and both were biopsied, results back in a couple of weeks. They’re both BBS. I’m really excited they both made it. It’s a hard road though- one or both could be affected by Fragile X or other anomalies and I’m trying to be hopeful and take it step by step. Thanks for being hopeful for me ❤️ We’re likely doing another cycle but I didn’t feel emotionally game to dive right back in. I stimmed for 16 days and feel like I’m still reeling a bit from hormones. And the thought of giving myself another shot right now just makes me want to puke.

@lucyb1954 that’s great news, come on normies, does fragile x mean u have to do pgd? I get wanting to take a break, stemming 16 days is brutal and I’ve had cycles like that however I did do back to back cycles where I had success in getting normies back to back...you just never know how your body will behave.

I threw up everything I tried to eat and drink this morning - not morning sickness but just from the stress as I was expecting a call first thing... they let me know lunchtime they still didn’t have it... then my OB called this evening at 7pm to say still not there and she will call them tomorrow - but is only in the office after 2pm so I know not to be waiting for a call in the morning. That was nice of her to do that after hours - but I asked if them delaying the release might mean they don’t have enough fetal dna again and she said yes it could be because they’re testing the second sample. I also asked if they might test the second sample if the first one showed a problem - she said also yes... but said there was really no problem to see on our US so I have to keep repeating to myself that it looks text book to try to help ease my anxiety.
She also prescribed going to McDonald’s and buying two portions of fries for my dinner as they do release endorphins and calm you down - so I’ve just done that! And my anxiety level has definitely dropped a notch.

We only get the sex linked results back after 14 weeks, but I’m so relieved the trisomies are clear.

Sent in IVF round 3 and 6 (4 embryos) for PGS testing and got 2 normal embryos!!! 1Boy and 1Girl. Took a little over a year to get those two embryos so demanded all sorts of test prior to attempting transfer. Did EFT, ERA and NK Cells testing.
FET#1 - Intralipid drips, Prednisone, and did a depot lupron shot before starting the FET protocol

Natural pregnancy - cycle following the FET2???? Miscarriage at 8 weeks. viability scan had shown an enlarged yolk sac so I had been warned that it was likely not chromosonally normal
DEIVF cycle - picked a donor who is willing to be open! Her cycle resulted in in 4 PGS Normal embryos
1st transfer - chemical pregnancy
2nd transfer - success, May 17 2020 due date!

Our lovely OB also spent more than an hour measuring and showing us everything she could see and printed us lots of photos. To get a full profile shot was only possible abdominally as little one is now 8cm long already! We could already this early (13+5) see all four chambers of the heart which was truly amazing.
I made her check the spine and no sign of it still being open, but will check again in 3 weeks time.
And I asked to check for an omphalocele as well as signs of osteogenesis imperfecta. She said I’ve clearly been watching too much greys anatomy but once again would I like a job because she says I’m the only person in 30 years to ask these detailed questions! She also said she is going to find it very entertaining when we choose a hospital as they are not going to be ready for the detailed questions - especially in German from an English girl!
She was also pretty certain on the sex, but we should get it confirmed from Harmony on Monday or Tuesday!
This morning I will mail our “announcement parcel” to my parents - really hope it arrives Saturday (big ask even with express international...) so we can tell them as I do finally feel ready to tell a few very close people.

genetic testing results back today. Both embryos are male, both affected by Fragile X, one with 75 repeats and one with 98 repeats. While neither are full mutation I don’t think I feel comfortable implanting either given the risk to males later on in life for FXTAS, a disease that is somewhat like Parkinson’s.
I’d like to do another OE cycle before DE but that will be a conversation with SO tonight to see how he feels. 😢
oh I’m so sorry they both came back above the threshold- and they are right in the middle between normal and full blown... so I can imagine this will be a difficult decision.
Hope whatever you decide you can both be on the same page
