  • Not looking forward to second baby post-partum contractions.

I'm having a lot of BH today. Like, a lot. Going to call the doc tomorrow morning and see if she wants me to track them or something. I had 5 this morning, all in a row, within like 30 minutes. Not liking it at all.

Also, a Nestle commercial just made me cry. Like a baby.

I'm not actually sure if this is true with everyone but I found that breastfeeding made them worse (the postpartum contractions). HOWEVER, I appreciated it in the end because I healed so much faster than the times I didn't breastfeed. I'll also add that they were only bad for a little while (I'm talking maybe a few hours tops) then tapered off so it wasn't like days of serious cramping (for me at least). @oceanchild I know I've told my doctor a time or two that if I had an involuntary reflex when he was kneading my belly to punch him I wanted to go ahead and apologize in advance ;) because yes, those few times after delivery are so uncomfortable.

Yeah that's a lot. Lay on your left side and chug water if it happens again. Or take a bath. If they don't calm down go into l&d. Are they letting up for a break or are they constant?

And yes, breastfeeding makes it worse, buy it makes your uterus go down much quicker.

  • Yeah it was definitely more intense while nursing, or nursing will bring them on. I was popping ibuprofen as soon as they'd give me one. This time I'm bringing my own for in between doses. And LOL I'm sure your doc appreciates the fair warning!

  • @oceanchild Yes, this is my first. Maybe I will be spared! But if not I'm glad I will know what is going on.

  • YES to the ibuprofen. That stuff is da bomb for recovery. Need a major fix after 9 months of nada.

They start up when I move (like even get up to go to the bathroom...I had two this afternoon when I went to pee) and calm back down when I lay down or sit down. Laying down feels much better though. It's been pretty consistent with them starting as soon as I move around and stopping when I rest.

I'll try the water chugging and left side laying (though I can't do that at work). I'm just taking it easy tonight.

  • You shouldn't have to deal with that every time you get up to pee. If they don't stop with some hydration and rest, I'd go get checked out. @cmerribury

  • That looks so good. We had fro'za for din, bc another busy day running around everywhere had me on the couch to stop the BHx. (Mine are expected and reasonable today though.)

I just found out a new random fact and had to share... All shrimp and pawns are born male and then when they are around 2 or 3 change to be females. I guess that makes all female shrimp Cougars bahaha

I found this entirely too funny.

  • @cmerribury I don't know what BH are actually like because I feel like I spend most of my day in one long BH contraction.  Horribly tight, hard to walk with, painful.  But that's what I had with my first as well, so I don't know if it's actually BH or what.  But the ultrasound techs always ask why I'm so tight and why I'm flinching when they poke and prod.

@jlavo888 Oh yeah, the pp contractions aren't fun (and nursing makes them stronger/more frequent?), but what's worse is when the nurses come in every few hours after your labor (while you're trying to stinking rest like they tell you) and knead your belly to make sure the contractions keep going.  Absolute assholes, those nurses... lol.

Sounds like you have irritable uterus. It's a sucky club yo be a member of.

  • @skruhmin I had totally forgotten that was a thing, but the term irritable uterus suddenly struck me as way funnier than it should.  Sadly there are no really amazing angry uterus gifs.  They're all kind of startling actually lol.
  • By far the worst advice I've ever seen anywhere in my time on tb. 3rd tri castor oil thread. This woman actually said she worked in L&D and that it can't harm mom or baby and it works. The worst it could do is make you throw up. I'm so many emotions right now. Smh

  • I feel like asking if it's a good idea to drink caster oil is pretty much like asking if it's okay to go siphon gasoline and drink it.
  • @cmerribury I don't think that's irrational at all. I wash and change everyone's sheets once a week but if anyone gets a cold I'm washing whoever's is sick everyday. I feel like they're just rubbing their germs all over at least the pillow so it has to be washed out to get the germs gone.

  • Lol, @mrspepper05

Having alot of back pain tonight. On top of the heart burn, I'm pretty sure that I will not be sleeping.
I also now officially measure as big as I did with ds the day that I had him. So.... this is going to be a long 13 weeks :(
  • @red3ye maybe LO just had a growth spurt super early and you won't gain much more? That's what I'm hoping for myself at least, haha. This is my first, at my last appointment about two weeks ago I was measuring ahead maybe a week or two, and I had gained 12 lbs in one month...this time around I've managed to avoid the 12 lbs weight gain, I keep telling myself that he just grew a lot that month and part of it was muscle since I was still lifting. That was all before Thanksgiving even!! Hoping the last 13 weeks are good to you!

Sorry if I'm wrong but aren't you having twins though?
