Had my check up today. Baby is sounding good and the Dr. is happy with how things are progressing. Heartbeat was 140. :) BEST. SOUND. EVER.

Also, I think this may have been asked somewhere on here, but what do you all think about the whooping cough vaccine? My doctor is recommending I get mine at 30weeks, which I will do. She is also recommending that DH and grandparents/others who may be around baby a lot get one. DH will get his no problem, but should I ask the grandparents to get one too?

I am going to ask my mom to only because I know she will say yes with no hesitation. I don't think MIL will have an issue with it so I'll definitely mention it to her, but I know if I tell her my mom is getting it she will too lol. I think the bottom line is you can let them know that it's doctor recommended and that you would appreciate it, but of course there is no forcing the issue.

  • OMG!!! One of my coworkers brought in her baby boy!!!  It was soo nice to hold a baby!!! :)  He turned 1 week old today and is soo adorable!!! <3
I hung out with my bestie and her 1 month old all morning... then I smelled like baby the rest of the day... I was happy

I held my friends 7 week old yesterday and then kept smelling my shoulder for the rest of the baby. Totally gave me baby fever. I told DH it was a good thing I was already KTFU. :) Such a delicous smell!

  • @SparkE82 I haven't with any of my pregnancies and I've never asked anyone else to. My children and I are still generally healthy to this day other than the normal colds that go around with school-age kids. :)

  • pfff @skruhmin I've been pulling that card most of my pregnancy.. But the whole 'not wanting to even eat dinner' the last 5 months has put a big damper on my cooking.  Poor DH.

Ok I'm now almost positive I felt bh contractions tonight- to the point I had to breathe through it. Only problem I had was I couldn't get it to go away at first- I know changing positions should make them go away but I was DRIVING and didn't have much room to move lol. It's a 25 minute drive home and when I got to the grocery store the second I got out they were gone and I felt much better. Of course when I get home and then have to deal with all kinds of stretching and pulling- and my husband insists on following me around the house and talking my ear off when I just want peace, quiet, and REST!

  • @2goofykids yay for good news.
@SparkE82 glad to hear your appointment went well too. My doctor also said she wanted me to get my whooping cough in 3rd trimester. I'm not opposed.

Speaking of better nutrition, I passed my glucose test yesterday (woohoo!), but the doctor did a blood screening and turns out I am anemic. Of course after she listed all the foods I need to increase in my diet (along with adding an additional iron supplement) I was like well no wonder I am low in iron I'm not eating any of that!!! I'm not a big red meat eater (1/month maybe) and I have been adverse to chicken most of the pregnancy. Nor, have I gone out of my way to eat broccoli, lentils, or spinach. I just wasn't thinking about not really getting iron in my diet. Lol Dh is super excited because now we are under doctor's orders to eat red meat. I am just glad that they do the screening, so now we can take care of it.
  • @stormiewinter If your doctor didn't mention it, my OB has suggested that I take the iron supplement after drinking some OJ (if you don't have bad acid reflux).  It helps your body absorb the iron, I believe?
  • @Stormiewinter Blood Builder is a great iron supplement. Just watch out for constipation.

  • @smushi and @skruhmin thank you for the advice. I will pick up some oj tomorrow. I am terrified of becoming constipated (tmi) I already have awful hemmorhoids and that's without having any bowel issues. I will need to make sure my water I take and fiber are on track!

Everything I'm reading says do not take them with calcium, antacids or coffee. If you have constipation issues, try a stool softener. Collace is awesome.

  • @Stormiewinter if OJ is an issue for any reason (I just don't like it in general...) you can always just take a vitamin c. I personally like the chewable ones that taste like orange :) I've been anemic most of this pregnancy and haven't really noticed the iron supplements causing any extra constipation on top of what pregnancy already was causing, so hopefully you won't have to worry too much about that!

  • I would ask the grandparents to vaccinate if they can do so safely. LO are susceptible to pertussis and I think for them it is more dangerous.
  • For any of you with toddlers 2-4 how the hell to you keep them quiet and good while getting an ultrasound? My little guy will be 3 in Jan. And I am always desperate to get a sitter. I have been lucky with most of them but for the regular OB visits he is a terror all of the sudden while we are waiting. He used to be an angel

I've always taken my 3 yr old and 18 month old and I take the iPad or give them my phone. :)

Bahahahaha have them be quiet.  You're funny.  I'm thankful MIL is able to watch mine so I haven't needed to bring them.  But @kynbar5 is right, iPad/tablet/leappad/phone works well.  Or snacks - lots and lots of snacks.

  • Maybe this is an FFC but recently DS2 at 16 months moved over to major daddy mode.  I really don't mind the break because it was mommy mommy mommy 24/7.  With DS1 when he went through the switch at 14 months I was seriously sad about it.  This one is different, especially with DS3 coming in a few months and I'll be needed 24/7 again.

Here I am, the nay-sayer about this vaccine, but the pertussis is one of the live vaccines.  People who get this vaccine can actually silently spread it to other people, even if you aren't showing symptoms of pertussis (for up to a month I believe??).  I would very much be hesitant to ask/demand grandparents to get this one, especially extremely close to delivery time.  And before anyone poo-poos all over this response, yup, I've done my research.

  • We almost always bring ds with us. We don't have family here or anyone who we trust to watch him. Unless dh wants to stay home, ds goes with us. He is about 2 1/2. When the lights go off, we hold his hands and talk to him about what is on the screen. The waiting part is the hardest, for that a phone, some favorite snacks, and silly games like patty cake, work to keep him fairly quite

DS is a totally daddy's boy. I usually do daycare drop off and pickup. He tells me every morning to tell daddy to pick him up (sometimes DH can sometimes he works late). Sometimes it makes me sad and sometimes I enjoy it. Now that he is a little older DH has taken him with him to the deer lease by himself a few times and I have had a weekend alone. I am hoping when DS2 comes that it doesn't push him further into being a daddys boy since I know I will be the one more focused on the baby while DH entertains DS1.

I am just wondering how you aren't sure?? I know I sometimes forget to ask questions of my doctor but I don't know how these people go in with an issue and then don't get a clear answer they understand. Huge difference between genital warts and skin tags. For her sake I will hope it is a skin tag.

Yes, that woman was so confused that it started confusing me! I too hope that it's skin tags!

  • Idk, I'm hoping its skin tags. Maybe I'm just squeamish about things like that but how do you ask and tell total strangers about possible genital warts? Eww... (Insert Jimmy Fallon gif). I agree, how the heck did she not ask her doctor this stuff?! But skin tags in that area? Somehow that doesn't seem logical to me. I hadn't even thought they'd grow there. Eww... I lost my appetite this morning. :(

My DH is not available to go to the appointments b/c they can never get me in after 4 and he doesn't get home from work until 4. :/ it's just me trying to keep him occupied. He used to be good with tablets, my phone, and snacks but the last couple he has been really, really ornery,

  • @stormiewinter Spinach is usually my favorite veg, but it tastes like grass to me right now. One thing I do is blend it up in my smoothie...if you mix it with pineapple or mango it takes on that flavor. May be a good way to get it in. :) Also, stool softeners are my JAM. I live for them.

My doc recommended I get this at about 27 weeks, and I planned to. My Mom is likely the only other one who will (she's a nurse, so she gets her shots each year)...should I be worried about the timing for her getting it? She's gotten it each year and it's never been an issue for my son, husband, or I (not saying it couldn't be, just that it hasn't been).

I'm sorry. I have never had to take DS to my doctors appointment but he is usually pretty good when we go to his except his dermatologist because they took us right back and left us in the tiny exam room for an hour! Couldn't we have stayed in the waiting room where they have disney movies playing? I usually try to bring the Ipad or he plays games on my phone. He is almost four now but when he was 3 it was harder. Hang in there. :) I felt super bad for a couple at my AS last week. We waited an hour to be called back and they were there before us with four small kids. The kids were running around some but were generally being pretty good for how long they had been waiting. They were still there when we left!

For me at least, the risk outweighs the benefits (if there are any). Like I said, I've never gotten it and I've never had any problems with my kids. I've just always kept my newborns and little ones away from people that are blatantly sick and places with a lot of traffic and germs. :)

  • I'm honestly afraid to get shots while I'm pregnant. That sounds stupid because I'll vaccinate my kids but right now I just feel like she's so fragil and stuff.
