We've been putting LO down between 8-9 but we decided tonight to start closer to 730 because lately she's been super fussy starting around that time. Pretty sure she's just had enough for the day. Happens to me too
I try to put LO to bed after 7:30, but lately he's been passing out as early as 6:00. He hasn't been sleeping more than 3 hour chunks since this started, so I'm no model in the sleep department. Before, he was going to bed between 8:30 and 9:30 pm and sleeping much longer. I don't think we are doing anything wrong - he's a chunky kid at almost 16 lbs at 13 weeks, and he eats often... Just who he is, I think. But maybe I'm doing something wrong, who knows.
He naps around 9:00/9:30 am, noon, and 3:00 pm, give or take an hour on all this.
Curious, what time do people put their LOs to bed? We do around 830 pm, and a coworker remarked this was later than she did with her son at this age. She wasn't being judgy, but it did make me curious as to what others do?
9:30-10, he will sleep until 6am, when he starts stretching it out it will be to bed earlier and earlier.. It makes sense for us. He's sleeping about 8 hours a night so I don't want to put down at 7 or 8 yet
I just read somewhere that babies our LOs ages don't need to go to bed until 9/10 that once they hit 5 or 6 months is when they go to bed earlier. Our girl goes down around 730/8 and hasn't slept through the night yet and will wake up anytime between midnight and 3. It's frustrating especially since I'm the only one who will wake up with her and now with school I am super exhausted. I'm wondering if we shouldn't put her to bed until later but she will pass out like a rock at her 730 bedtim and for the sake of keeping routine I don't want to fuck with it
LO had her vaccinations yesterday and tonight she's curled up in pain whenever I put her down on her back - I think it's gas pain, but jeeze, this poor girl! The only time she seems to get relief (and be able to relax) is on her belly on my chest. It's going to be a long night for this mama
We go to bed usually between 9-10. Usually he's a champion napper, tho. Right now he is going thru a leap or a growth spurt so everything is all off whack and messed up, he's not napping like he usually does and bedtimes have been earlier the past 2-3 days (830 ish) because he is just so very cranky and so obviously over the day. But usually he will eat, then hang out for while, then nap like clockwork. Even in the afternoon and evening. And I'd never had a problem with his eating at say, 6, then napping from 745pm to 9 and waking to eat that last meal and then sleeping 5-6 hours once we go to bed around 10, 1030. No matter what time we start 6 hours is usually his max stretch. It really just depends on how his feedings shake out. If he starts to eat at 6, its a bit too early for official bed time once he is done. If he had a longer nap during the day and he starts to eat at 8, usually I'll call that his before bed meal and he'll go to bed after
(Keep in mind with my bfing AND using formula his eating routine is an hour)
Sleep regression + being back to work + DH out of town = whole new ballgame. And not the kind of ballgame where you're well rested with a decent outfit and makeup on leisurely drinking and laughing with friends...
Having guilty thoughts about leaving work early to nap, THEN picking up LO! I-)
LO has been going to bed between 7 and 8. She usually sleeps until 6 or 7 am. Since she doesn't really nap at daycare, she's exhausted at night and sometimes we start the nighttime routine at 6:30. DS went to bed around 8 until we sleep trained, then he slept from 7-7.
I'm so tired! Lo woke up at 2am, which hadn't happened in 6 weeks except a few days last week when she was growing? Then 5 am our 5 yo was up, back in her bed then in our bed at 5:30 because there was a little thunder. Don't even know If she actaully slept after that because she was wide awake at 6:30 and then lo got up. So happy kindergarten started yesterday so I can take a nap today!
Night 3 in crib sucked. Down at 9 and up at 1:30 then up again at 4:40 BUT she refused to go back down. She whimpered and then let out a few cries then would settle back down and I thought "okay awesome, she's soothing herself." Nope, she was up from 5 to 6:30. Finally fell asleep after putting paci in for the 3rd time then woke up at 7 ready for the day. I'm following her lead, changed her and starting our day earlier than normal. When she was in rnplay shed sleep from 9 to 330 then 6 which would be perfect for when I go back to work.
Tempted to put her down at 630, wake up for a dream feed around 930 before I go to bed and then see what happens. I need our day to begin around 6/630 in a week.
Currently putting her down around 9-930. Oh I hate you night time!
Thanks ladies! LO goes down around 830 and will sleep until 715 am if I let her. We just started daycare and i need her to sleep until 645 so I can get ready for work, so I've been hesitant to try an earlier sleep time. It sounds like 830 is fine for now, until she's a bit older, phew!

Mine goes down at 6:30. I dream feed at 9 and then he's up a couple times thru the night and awake at 6. I read a book on sleeping (can't remember which one) and it said that you'd think they sleep longer if you put them down later but it's actually the opposite. Mine naturally wants to go to bed at 6:30.
I need to stop reading this thread. Most of your babies sleep way more than mine! And I'm ok with that until I see several posts in a row about STTN babies, lol.
After our failed attempt at the flat pnp mattress Tuesday night we were back in the bassinet last night. We start the bedtime process at 730 and she was down at 830 (some nights are better than others) and she slept until 430 when she woke up due to a massive poopy diaper. I had to do some convincing to get her back down after that but after about an hour she accepted it.
I think tonight we're going to try to do pj's instead of the swaddle. The past few nights she's been completely out of the swaddle by the time she wakes up, and she seems cold. Might do pj's in the bassinet for a few nights before trying the flat mattress again.
@jesshrou my DH read the exact same thing. We are going to start the nighttime routine earlier if possible because this said you should put them to sleep before they're overly tired.

Yeah I do a bath around 5-6 and start winding down.
Edit: how this will work when I go back to work I don't know. My DH has never bathed him and I don't get home until 7, 8 some nights. I'm trying to get my DH into the whole nighttime routine but he doesn't really understand the importance of putting to sleep before theyre cranky yet.
I put her to bed 90 min early tonight...we'll see how it goes. I was tired of only having like 45 minutes to myself before I went to bed and still being tired in the AM.

We nurse and cuddle after I get home from work starting at 6, she'll nap on and off outintheliving room with me, sometimes for most of the time then if it's bath night do a bath at 845ish, if she's asleeping wake her to put her pjs on at 9 do a feed and then she goes in her crib for the night. She wakes for a feed sometime after 3am (her first wake up time has been changing every few days)
@janit368 yup, we nurse 15 min per side (he's a lazy eater and it's contributed to low supply on my end) and then he gets a bottle of formula which usually takes 20-25 minutes to finish. I've considered just giving up the ghost on nursing to give myself more time to not be feeding him, but he loves the boobs, so we keep going. He's probably only getting about 30% of his food from me, but whatever. What else am I doing, anyway. :-\"
Anyone else's LOs night feelings increase after they went back to work? I'm on week 3 of work & this week LO has started to wake every 2 hours again. She's 15 weeks but was 3 weeks early so not sure if this is related to my being gone during the day, a leap, or growth spurt. Her schedule is all messed up too & I have to put her down for the night at 6 or 7 rather than 730/830 like normal because she is so fussy. I'm not going to be able to do this every two hour & work thing. She was waking generally at 2:30 & 5:30. Oh my I'm so tired.
I am currently sitting in the nursery determined to have LO finish out the night in her crib. For some reason the past 3 nights she's decided the only place to sleep is on my chest and that's not really working for me. I managed to get her to sleep in her crib tonight from 10-3, she woke for her MOTN feed and now I refuse to give in! So instead of picking her up and bringing her back to my bed I'm hanging out in here so I can soothe her and return her paci as she needs. SHE WILL BE FINISHING TONIGHT IN HER CRIB!!!
@ciennah99 yes. My guy is up every 2-3 these last 2 nights and wants to eat constantly! At night he eats larger bottles/goes at the boob longer and during the day he just snacks. For sure hes waking up a lot at night and eating more. Not sure if it's me going back to work or just growth?
First night in the crib consisted of a 5 hr stretch followed by LO waking at 3, 4 and 5. Fed her at 5:00 and she was wide awake and full of smiles. Ugh, sorry baby, you're cute but you're going back in the crib! I watched and listened to her play/talk to herself for 15 mins before I passed out. And now, she's still sleeping. Nighttime still sucks but yay for the crib.

I've read babies can reverse their feeding to eat less during the day, and wait for their moms to feed better at night. Sorry to be a broken record, but Kellymom.com has some good info about it. But yeah, always so hard to tell what is a coincidence and what is a Thing. Babies be babies.
We have stopped using swaddles entirely now, stopped at 13 weeks when he started rolling. We were using sleep sacks, but he was getting warm in the ones we have. So I turned our AC down (colder) and he's slept in longer chunks the past two nights! Last night he was just in his footed PJs. We did a lot of dream feeding and co-sleeping last night, so I'm not sure how often he woke... But not much, and we are all feeling much better after two better nights of sleep. (Those 1-2 hour chunks are just killer.)
Thanks to the ladies who were talking about temperature again! I was over-dressing LO at night, it seems.
Ugh @virginiaunicorn11 I'm so jealous. LO gets such crappier sleeps when I even do one arm out of the swaddle. She's a zombie the next morning.. I'm praying she doesn't roll over until 6 years old so I can keep her swaddled.

Tonight is the first time I'm trying one arm out swaddle and she's doing great so far but we are still in the rock and play. I don't know how the transition is going to go to the pack and play or crib. Any tips out there? We are afraid to put her in one of those swaddled because she rolls over already. So we decided to work on getting her to sleep without the swaddle and then transitioning her to Pack and play or crib. Praying we aren't up every two hours again. I was off work today so I got to spend time with her and she definitely went down way easier without a fuss. So we'll see how tonight goes.
Went with feetie pj's instead of a swaddle tonight, but stayed in the bassinet. If she can sleep unswaddlwd for a few nights we'll move to either the pnp or crib depending on how ambitious we are. She looks so darn cute in her pjs...even though she is just about too long for them. I'm 5'2" and DH is 5'9"...how on earth we wound up with a baby in the 95th percentile for height who is about to be out of 3 month clothes at 12 weeks is beyond me.
Night 4 In crib: went down at 7 and did a dream feed at 10. She ate only one boob at dream feed and I put her down. Then, she was up at 1. Ate until 1:40 then up at 5 to eat again then refused to go down once more. Finally DH brought her in our bed at 6 and she just laid there talking to us. Decided to start the day at 6:30 since that's what we'll do in more than a week. Even though it was her first night to go "down" at bedtime before 9, I was really disappointed to see 1am on the clock...thought that dream feed was supposed to help!
Now we're not at home (away for the night at my parents country place) and she went down at 8. So now I'm contemplating even waking her up at all for a feed. My Mom was like "I never messed w a sleeping baby"
I'm the kind of person that likes to follow directions after being told what to do. This is an instance where I wish someone would say "okay do this!" And I'd follow...I have no clue what I'm doing right now with sleep time!
I'm going to try [type of baby pajamas] and [type of baby blanket] in the [type of baby sleeping product] at [any time from 6 to 10 pm]. Completely disregarding any choices I make, my baby is going to wake whenever she feels like it. I will pretend like the things I do at bedtime make any difference at all for the next 6 months or so, until she figures it out on her own.
And we're up at 12:00. How does going to bed one hour later w no dream feed happen and we still wake up one hour earlier??!! Never going to get this right...my guess is 3:00 wake up time next. Raging...
I read somewhere that later feeding, dream feeds and feeding a bigger amount don't work at all to make a baby sleep longer. The best nights of sleep we had were ones that lo last eats at 7.
