@dancegurl1118 I used to smoke too so I knew what their fingers might have been like. But I was trying to calculate the likelihood of them transferring stuff from their fingers onto LOs fingers and then him getting it in his mouth. I figured that was a lot of transference so I let it slide. I wouldn't have let them put their hands in his mouth, tho. Oh no. And besides, since everybody was going for the right hand and he really favors his left for snacking, I figured I could wash it before he could eat it.
I was leaving a friends baby shower today, slipped on some outside stairs, rolled my ankle and foot, and hurt it pretty bad. I don't think it's broken. It's super swollen but only in one spot. I can't put a lot of weight on it though. I feel like an idiot and want to cry. (
ETA: Who am I kidding, I've cried like three times. Should've said, I want to cry AGAIN.

Aw lady! I want to cry FOR you! That SUCKS!! I always cry when I get hurt, more because I'm mad. I hope you can put it up with some ice and can rest it. Feel better!
So the other day I was at the gym so DH was in charge of little one. He bathed her, fed her, played with her and put her in her swing to nap, only for some reason she was very squirmy, like she couldn't get comfortable. He picked her up to see what was wrong and BAM he had forgotten to put on a diaper. I thought it was quite funny! First time dad moments!

Oh no! I hope it feels better tomorrow! That's the one thing I have been hoping for since June - to not have anything that happens to me to impair my ability to get around safely. Put a brace on that bugger tomorrow if the swelling goes down!
@mellymar and @virginiaunicorn11 thank you. DH doesn't understand why I'm so upset. Uhhhh...because I can't even walk around with my kid. I'm a SAHM so I'm not sure how the hell this is going to work. And yes, I'm pissed at myself for not being more careful. I'm thinking about going to the doctor tomorrow to get a boot/brace to make walking safer.

I am so sorry, that stinks! Hope it gets better really soon!
Stupid stomach bug shows up this morning. I was down for the count in the bathroom for 2 hours this morning. & today was suppose to be LO's baby dedication at church. We texted the pastor & he says the message was just for us... Weird but sweet. Finally got my gut calmed down & could sip water/eat crackers. Thank goodness LO likes to nurse laying down. Praying she doesn't get it tomorrow!!
What is the proper etiquette after LO pees in the tub? It has probably happened other times but since these days she feels the need to keep her knees bent up to her ears (even in the tub!)her piddle episode was obvious. And of course this happened right after putting shampoo on her head (lots of hair on this lady). Do I take the slippery child out to rinse elsewhere? Rinse with peewater? Pee is sterile, right? I quickly rinsed with peewater and pulled her from the tub. Only to have her spit up into her eye when on the changing table.... Bring on the monday!!!!!

I'm sure she's done it every other bath and you just couldn't tell. Eh, I'd say forget you even saw it and carry on. 8->

@Kbchavez23 I'm not sure if anything really helps but I use monistat anti-chafing gel. I tried diaper cream but it just attracted even more gunk and turned into stinky little white curds under there. The chafing gel dries to a powder finish so it keeps things fresh and dry and not as sticky. She is still red but not bleeding and way less stinky.
Thanks for recommending this: I have some coming via Amazon this week. Hoping to clear up LOs neck rolls...
I'm also getting mustela in the hopes of getting rid of the teensy bit of cradle cap left! Now I'm apparently all vain about my little girl
bought 3kg of boneless pork leg roast yesterday for $14 (hella good price) put it all in the slow cooker and it was cooking the whole day while DH and I (and of course LO) went to the city 2 hours from our house. it was a pretty successful trip aside from the drive home, LO was screaming and crying for food for like 20 minutes and i felt so terrible it broke my heart :C
but the good side is that i bought a bunch of cute underwear
So, DH and I are about to start our bowling league, which goes every other Friday. We could bring LO with us, but I thought it might be more fun for everybody to hire a sitter. With that in mind, I signed up at Care.com and was window shopping and had to enter some info about us and what I was thinking about with regards to when we would want a sitter. I didn't pay the prescription fee, so I thought they wouldn't put my 'job' out there, but they did. No big deal on that, that's fine. Someone replied to it, tho, and I'm not even sure if DH is on the same page as I am here with regards to a sitter. I think he is more of the mind of not spending the money and, tho he won't admit it himself, not leaving LO with 'someone else'
I'm willing to entertain leaving LO with someone else for 3 or so hours every other week, but the gal who replied to my 'job' is 16 and looking for a part time gig after school. I know generation upon generations of teenage girls have babysat for extra money, but suddenly I'm like "damn teenagers and their (whatever)" and thinking that somehow a teen couldn't do this job, namely making sure my baby doesn't die and probably giving one feeding during the 3 hour time frame.
So I'm torn between actively entertaining this idea and just putting the kibosh on the whole thing cause of mommy jitters. I know a bunch of you have family who can watch your kid, but put yourself in my place - with no family nearby and no strong relationships with anybody else to ask for a recommendation about a sitter. How do you think you'd deal with this? Just bring the kid along to bowling? Go ahead and look at sitters? If so, would you consider a teen? Just looking for some guidance, here.

We have no family close and I hate asking friends to watch our kids, so I'm in a similar spot. I'm actually using a neighborhood website to find a teenage sitter for 2 kids. The first time (or 2 or 3) will be on a weekend when I want to get some gardening done. So the sitter will be in charge but I will be outside just in case. We'll leave them alone when everyone is comfortable. Can you do a trial run when you're home or just a few minutes away? And maybe get a nanny cam?
@mellymar I think what @Sammy K said makes perfect sense. Do a trial run when you're at home, maybe even inside doing laundry, cleaning, etc. You could get a feel for that particular sitter and/or the idea of having any sitter.
@mellymar I babysat since I was 13 and was a full time nanny later in life for 3 years. I am wary of any babysitter. I mean my job was to keep the children safe and I did but...no 13 year old is watching my child. I didn't have a smartphone back then so I wasn't distracted. Just think that any teeny bopper could be so distracted by Instagram that they don't see your toddler putting something in their mouth and choking...I just...I cant do it. Maybe in a few years. And I'll lock up their phone?

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
@mellymar right now I am very lucky because my mom babysits. However, when we find an apartment, I will be venturing on to care.com myself. I think @Sammy K 's idea is perfect, bring her in for a trial run (paid, of course) with you in the house but doing other things. As far as the age thing, I think 16 is fine. Just interview her and see what your gut tells you.
@mellymar I totally get your need to get out without LO. DH doesn't fully get when I want to because he goes to work everyday.
My foot is fractured. Got a walking boot from the ER last night and have a follow up with a podiatrist on Wednesday. It hopefully will just be treated with the walking boot so I can get around still. So annoyed with myself! Walk carefully, ladies.
LO has her first cold. The poor girl is so stuffed up, we spent most of the weekend cuddling. She screamed bloody murder when DH used the Nose Frieda but then 3 seconds later, she just looked at us like "Whoa! I can breathe!"
Hopefully we're through the worst of it. I can't take many more hours in the rocking chair.
The general consensus around here with a ton of colleges around is to not go HS age or younger for babies... But again we have that luxury. Then again I wouldn't trust most of DHs family with him either. Luckily we just ran into one friend with 3 kids who is having baby fever and just clicked with LO. She's begging to babysit and I'll be happy to let her. She's actually more cautious with him then me!
@mellymar we've hired two sitters to cover 4 weekdays while I work from home/go to my internship. On care.com there seemed to be a lot of options. My guess is that you can find someone older who you would feel more comfortable with. It helps to be at home a couple of times while they watch LO just so you know if you are comfortable leaving them alone. You won't have fun bowling if you are worried the whole time so it is probably a good idea to do a dry run anyway.
Thanks for the replies everyone! The good news is that hubs IS open to having a sitter, but he wants to try and see how P does while we're out first. And I know I don't have to choose this girl, there were other people in town on the site available. I was a little impressed that *she* contacted *me* (thru Care) tho. I thought that showed some kind of... Something. I don't know what word I want now, I'm tired.
The other good news is that the bowling alley is a five minute walk from our house (10 in the winter when you are accounting for snow and ice on the road, tho we usually just drive, then). So we would always be *right there* if we needed to come home.

Your foot! Oh no! Holy sheet... I'm so sorry! Rest up as best you can, and keep that boot on!

im in the same boat, LO has a super stuffy nose, it doesnt bother him but he will gag on it and start coughing, i finally bought one of those buld suckers and the kid screams bloody murder when we use it.
LO did sneeze like 7 times in an hour this morning and quite a few huge globs of snot came out to say hello.

Oh no, your foot! You poor thing. I hope you heal quickly and aren't in too much pain.
When did your LO's start arching their back and screaming (really screaming) when they're angry? My girl will be 12 weeks tomorrow and my dad insists that she's too young to know to arch her back and stiffen up when she's mad (she does though so, idk)

My LO is 12 weeks later this week and he's been doing this for a while. I dunno how long, I wasn't keeping track, but its been a while

Mine started doing this a while ago. He's 14 weeks today. Definitely pissed/hungry when he does it. He also grunts when he's tired. Everyone always thinks he's pooping and DH and I have to explain those are tired grunts.
@mellymar and @virginiaunicorn11 it's not awful and I can walk okay with the boot. My father in law is coming over tomorrow to help out and DH set up the stroller so I can wheel LO around the house. ETA: thank you!
Is there a community college with early childhood education associates students you could put a flyer up? I remember when I was doing my pre requisites for school flyers like that were posted looking for babysitters and nannies. @mellymar
Also I'm all for the opinion of going out without LO. We can't be helicopter parents! It's good to get out. Oh and instincts are number one.... If you have an incling the person is competent your prob right. If you have a bad feeling then no!
Last week I found a lump in my inner thigh. I had my doctor look at it yesterday and she's sending me to an ultrasound. My nervousness got the best of me and I googled...that was a bad idea and now I'm having full blown panic attacks because, of course, the primary hit was STS. I can't seem to calm myself down
No googling @upandbelow!!! (Says the person that googles everything). Seriously though good luck and keep us posted. I've never seen anyone end up with googles worst
Second the no googling @upandbelow! Google, both a blessing and a curse. In some ways the good ol' days were better. I mean, would you have bothered to go look that up in an encyclopedia? Bah. Wishing you well and hope you get your results soon so you can stop worrying!
